Sis, AMEN to everything you said. Before I got my microlocks I spent a ridiculous amount of time on YT just researching the experiences of Sisterlocks OGs. Crazy enough, that led to my decision to not get more than 250 locks (which is so funny because you did the direct opposite 😅) I fully intended to DIY, but more importantly, my loose hair was very dense, full 4b-4c. So right away I knew I didn't need the extra volume. 18 months in and I couldn't put my locs up on my head with one hand; that was when I was sure I'd made the right decision for me. You were one of my inspirations to get the number I did (I ended up with 237). I LOVED your first set. They were STUNNING 😍. Big props to your mum for doing such a phenomenal job. I've never used ACV on my locs because it's crazy expensive in Nigeria where I live, but I use raw black soap which is readily available and cheap. It's also extremely clarifying. Now that I'm two years in (with some extra change) I follow the black soap with V05 moisturizing shampoo just for the scent and no other reason. I'm not worried about the moisturising properties cos girl! I used both the V05 shampoo and conditioners a lot as a loose natural, and there was nothing moisturising about them; not for my hair at least. Excited to see how your hair looks at 3 years. I bet it'll turn out beautiful just like the first set.
Thanks for watching! If I didn’t want a smaller size of locs, I would definitely do the exact same size of locs I did with my first set. I loved that size as well. Black soap sounds interesting, but it’s so expensive in Canada. Sounds like you have a good wash routine down. I’m excited to see how my locs look as they mature as well. I’ll be documenting every single year 😊
So glad I found you! All the information provided was super informative ESPECIALLY since the last week prior to my first retwist I was applying castor oil ( in a heavy quantity ) to my baby locs everyday. My loctitian told me I had so much lint in my hair and she actually had to redo some of them.
I’ve been putting a small amount of acv in my shampoo, I love it. It’s the only way my hair feels completely clean. Haven’t done a full rinse yet, definitely want to try when My locs are more mature. Almost at a year!
Hey beautiful, thanks so much for this tips. I'm like 9months loc'd and I don't think I have build up, at least I've not seen any 😀 but just to avoid it I'm going to use ACV as you suggested. Much love🤍
Thanks! It’s really about the condition of your scalp. If you feel a need for a refresh at 3 months, then definitely do it. If not, then wait until 6 months. An acv rinse won’t affect the locking process negatively. It’s really about what your hair and scalp need.
I'm almost a year in with my daughters they look really good. I do the acv rinse about every 2 months to 3 months but still having issues with the build up. I think she sneaks gel in her hair or moisturizer when I'm not around to stop her haha. However I used Jamaican black castor oil and sweet almond oil to do her retwist or she uses it sometimes in the mornings. Had no idea castor oil will attract lint. What should I use to do her retwist or some morning to cut down the friz? I just got her a satin bonnet that has worked wonders.
Sounds like you’re doing a great job! Sweet almond oil is a great option for retwists because it’s really lightweight. Checking for lint on a weekly basis will definitely help preventing lint from imbedding in the loc.
This is me, cover your at night even during the day, put it up in ponytail, light oil may once a weak. Condition your after you wash , use oil like olive, never use normal conditioner because locks does not need it. Clarified. Shampoo is the key. Or just dye your locks , that it. Rose water and mix light oil, spray when it feel dry.
No I don’t. I’m completely independent. But I’m sure you could ask your loctician to check out your grid after you do it for the first time on your own.
I started my locs journey today. At first I started using a leavin conditioner to twist my hair then switch to water and oil. Should open the side I used conditioner and wash it out? I’m afraid of build ups😩
