I know quite a few of my flaws… not really being able to correct them. Like falling in love with top pair top kicker. I will start using a little bit of time after playing sessions, going through a few hands!

@@HenrikMollerhoj Awesome! One way to get over the mental leak is to figure out why you fall in love with top pair top kicker. Is it because you're upset it seems someone out-drew you? Or possibly it's the desire to scoop in the pot and you can't do that when you fold! Reflect on it and try to retrain yourself to only focus on making the MOST profitable play in a situation. When that's your only goal, you'll think through things much more clearly. Good luck improving your habits!

You'll get there. Started with 25$ playing 0.01/0.02. Said to myself i'll go up when i grind up to 100$ to 0.02/0.05. Now i'm at 140$. Next jump will be when i have 200$. all about the slow grind

My favorite atomic habits quote is "“Complaining about not achieving success despite working hard is like complaining about an ice cube not melting when you heated it from 25 to 31 degrees. All the action happens at 32 degrees.” And it definitely applies to poker - we get better and better everyday slowly heating up until our game is a completely different form from what it was before.

Poker is alot more difficult then I ever anticipated. Justin's breakdown sounds intense. Great sound advice. All the work takes some of the fun out of the game. Thank you for the info.

Justin, I appreciated your comment about Josh Waitzkin as I teach chess to children and have had the chance to meet him a couple of times. I will have to check out his book. If you are interested I would suggest the movie "Searching for Bobby Fischer" which is a rendition of his life as a young chess player and is based a book written by his father.

Im having one of these nights too been studying for months and improving but now getting wrecked in .25 buy in mtt on acr lol. my first mtt i got 6th place in before i started studying i think cause i bluffed more and was more agro.

Make sure you put in volume! There is lots of variance. Play 1000 tournaments and you'll likely realize your edge!

how can i study my hands without solvers ( i have low pc) ? how is it possible to construct range and sizings without it ? any tips ? i would like to review like 1-3 hands after every session for like 10-30mins ideally everday ... any tips ? i have PT4 but im not going to buy high end pc + piosolver when im grinding NL10 :D

If you will not devote the resources to find your own ranges, get them from someone else (like at pokercoaching.com).

Find friends, coaches, communities full of players better than you to share and talk through the hands. Look to join the PokerCoaching Discord and ask lots of questions, and make sure to take good notes when you play!

I agree. I've played quite a bit. I played in a casino daily for about 9 months in 2019. I have watched quite a few videos (including lots of yours), and I've tried reading a few books. It's like trying to sit with a group of scientists and take part in the conversation. I understand a little bit quite well. But most of it is in their "special language". I understand vaguely many of the terms, but I have zero ability to apply it. They've already got their PhD and can't imagine how to dumb it down enough to talk to me. I look up the different terms you use, but it often doesn't help much. Like looking up a few words in another language, it doesn't help a whole lot in understanding the conversation.

@@cb.7814 The best way to fix this is to go into a structured learning course from start to finish. I would recommend beginning with my Master the Fundamentals course here: pokercoaching.com/free, that will help you develop a good base. From there, I would recommend taking either my Cash Game Masterclass or Tournament Masterclass depending on which game type you're playing the most. This will help structure your learning and take you from start to finish. I hope you enjoy it and learn a ton! :)

I would like to move back to Houston Tx and play tournaments and cash games again. In the Philippines now rakes too high to play for profit here. Like 10% no cap!! I will become student then later this year. Maybe just do some Vegas trips if can return here with no vax later.

Every time I play I go over all the pots I was in and what I did wrong or did right and how I could had maybe squeezed more money or if I didn't know what to do........ I carry a note book and keep everything written down ........... I will also go over it by calling one of my friends that plays really well. I have been doing it this way for 17 years and I took a 5 year break recently and just came back and this has been the hardest due to just the feel for the game ... I think feel for the game is a big deal also ..... but Thursday I finally almost got back to even I was negative 6k after my 6 sessions back

I am fairly new to TX Hold ‘Em. Trying to learn to be better. Etiquette Question: Can you have notes at a table or is that not allowed? For example: I have a chart for me on what to do at Early, Middle, and Late positions. Is it okay to have that available to me at a table? Thanks.

This is typically not allowed. At most places, you can have it with you to reference in between hands though. I'd recommend getting on the PokerCoaching App so that you have all the preflop charts on your phone and you can easily reference them and practice the strategies!

@@PokerCoaching got the App and went possum in headlights when saw the preflop charts. Still trying to figure them out and all the terminology. Charts like that confuse and overwhelm me. Too much to look at. Here’s what I have in my NOTES APP which has served me well so far and is simplified. Early Position > Raise with AA KK and AKs > Call with AK, AQs, KQs, QQ, JQ, TT Fold all else Middle > Raise N/A > Call - 99, 88, AJs, ATs, QJs, AQ, KQ Late > Call with AXs, KTs, QTs, JTs, AJ, AT Fold -if raise prior to my turn. Plan on continuing the learning process but there has to be something easier to use than the charts and memorizing, it would seem for peeps that get overwhelmed with things like that. Anyway, thanks for the videos and the advice you give. Signed up for now for the Free coaching membership. Hopefully will be able to upgrade the membership at some point.

I feel like I'm improving but I've had bad runs on multiple hands where I was favored to win so now I'm actually down like $75. I follow youtubers, hand reviews and analysis. Was doing quizzes a lot but most are for mid-high stakes games, and I had a problem with Lexi Gabins quizzes because she constantly tells you to bet in clear fold situations where it's obvious what the opponent has. I loved the other quizzes and most of the content on your site, Jonathan, but I can't afford $100 a month when I'm not even making anything significant.. Maybe one day I'll befriend a pro poker player and they can teach me more but I'm just gonna keep learning from experience and trying more tournaments instead..people play absolutely terrible hands and if you can win a few big hands you can coast to the final table.

This is exactly my same issue with low and micro tournaments. People call Ax on almost any board sometimes and really effects the expected EV. I think the best thing to do is just keep training and play small till you see progress

Put yourself out there and look to join nice communities! Being active in Discord groups, friendly at your local casino, etc. Making the effort and providing value will serve you well!

But this video had literally nothing to do with poker. Telling me I need to study more consistently and to take my ego out of it is 'advice' that could be applied to any practice. The video (according to the tile) was how to improve quickly. This video objectively failed to help a poker player improve quickly.
