Good to have this video. Broke one of my vertebrae 6 months ago. Finally back riding in the Spring. Looking at all the old stuff I hit makes me feel like I used to be a complete lunatic. I just like to think that I am a better rider now because of what I know caused my last injury. I also understand risk to reward a little more now.
I'm three years out from crashing and breaking my elbow clean off the bone. I still struggle with confidence. I think the biggest thing I was missing was just accepting it. I beat myself up all the time for not being as ballsy as I was before I had the injury. it's especially hard when people who used to be worse than you are leagues better than you now. I need to just accept it!
Appreciate this video very much...my last encounter with a tree was difficult at best...and this video is what i am watching an hour or so before i get back in the saddle today. Thanks and cheers from New Mexico USA
I had a massive downhill crash 3 months ago, snapped my radius, dislocated my ulna. Had to have surgery to fix. Today tried to ride and I was so scared and nervous I quit and went home 😭 felt like I have lost all my skills
Sorry to hear that Angela. That is really tough. I would start off with a coach to re assure you that you still have those skills and to brush them up, boosting your confidence too. Keep on trying.... it will be worth it. Good luck. Ben
@@thestrengthfactory. Thanks Ben, I really wished I actually watched your video before I went out and through myself straight onto a black diamond trail 🤦🏼♀️ slow and steady and not be so hard on myself
Thanks for this Ben, currently nursing a fractured collar bone and ligament damage in the shoulder on a trail I’ve done loads of times but just seem to have lost the front wheel on the loose dry stuff this time! 🤦🏻♂️ this is my 2nd bad one in 4 years and wondering if I should pack things in as I’m nearly 50! So trying to get some encouragement from somewhere as there is none whatsoever from the Mrs! 😂
Nightmare Phil! Sorry to hear that. Don't pack it all in. No surrender...... My suggestion: Use the time off riding to work on some strength training, focusing on legs and the working arm. Then when you get back to riding, get some skills caching to help avoid the front wheel wash! Give this a go: thestrengthfactory.uk/programmes/the-over-40s-mtb-programme/
@@thestrengthfactory. thanks very much for the reply Ben much appreciated! Seen the specialist today and he also wants me to crack on with some physio asap so that’s promising! Will check out the strength plan cheers again for the reply 🙏🏻
Thanks so much. Your video explains why my hands hurt while riding. I had an accident in 2020. I started riding again but stopped because my commute was longer. Hoping to regain my confidence. Any suggestions for painful hands?
What timing Ben, I had one at the weekend and the main feeling I’ve taken away from it is that I got off lightly. Coming down the trail the front wheel had a slip and slide in one of the sloppy bits that haven’t dried up this summer. I was calm and relaxed and thought all’s good back on track and at that moment my right grip clipped a tree. The bars violently twisted into my groin, the bike came to an abrupt stop sending me out the front to body slam a tree followed by my head hitting the trunk. Bruised cut up arm and been aching all week 🤦🏼♂️ Got FOD & BPW this weekend and certainly feeling a little apprehensive.
That sounds brutal mate! Take some comfort that the groin/bar part didn't turn out any worse! Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing your story. Ben
