Welcome to the Bio Dude RU-vid Channel. This was a video that Mariah and my self were really looking forward to doing together. In this video we discuss the importance of heating with reptiles, amphibians and arachnids. How reptiles take in heat, thermoregulate and how different wavelengths of InfaRed can impact the overall care of your pet. What is the difference between infrared wavelengths and which is more effective with heating my enclosure and keeping my reptile warm? Which is more effective for subcutaneous immersion and for creating microclimates? What are the best types of fixtures for specific bulbs to use? What is the best combination of Infa Red wavelengths for the best care for herps that love to bask? These are questions that we cover and answer to the best of our ability.
We tried to cover many of the heating questions we commonly get at the Bio Dude and ReptiFiles. The link for the article discussed is:
www.reptifiles.com/wp-content...
We hope that this video clarifies some of the miscues of reptile keeping when it comes to UTH, CHE and other types of heating apparatus' commonly used in the hobby today. The only bulb we did not cover is the DHP bulbs. We always recommend using a thermostat for all heating elements, especially CHEs and UTH. If you want to know more about those, reach out to us at customercare@thebiodude.com
www.thebiodude.com/collection...
As always, if there are any questions or comments just drop a line and we will do our best to answer them.

Hello, Been watching and a fan for years now and just wanted to say the videos have gotten so much better! You act and present yourself as if your much more comfortable in front of the camera and it has made these vides even more enjoyable than they already were. Thank you for starting me on bio and for pushing the benefits of bio!

Dear Bio Dude, Please consider making a video to help raise awareness for the Lacey Act Amendments that have just moved up to the Senate. These amendments will directly affect the exotic pet community tremendously, making it so that every animal that is not a cat, dog, or traditional farm animal will be automatically "black listed" throughout the US and will therefore not be able to cross any state border in efforts to boost national security as well as the American economy. These amendments will essentially reverse the federal lawsuit that USARK just won. If these are passed, the pet trade will be severely crippled because pet stores, as well as small breeders and sellers, will not be able to import or export their animals to other states. While the Lacey Act Amendments do have room to create a “white list” of acceptable animals, this will take far too much time and money to successfully add animals to the list, essentially making it impossible to add more rare exotic animals to the list because they will not have the same support as more commonly kept species. As a final thought, these amendments are far too broad. They generalize the entire US, pretending like each state's climate is the same. I live in the North West, which I can assure you is far different than, say, Florida. I believe it should be left up to each state individually to decide what could potentially be a problem based on their environment, not everyone else’s. If nothing else, I wanted to share this problem with the community as there has not been much discussion on the subject as far as I can tell… If anyone wants more information, please go check out USARK’s articles on the 2022 lacey amendments on their website and consider supporting them as they support us in the pet trade.

Could you make a video where you have different types of enclosures (tall and big, long and narrow) and show what types of heat work best? I'm thinking mostly for really narrow but long enclosures, since you don't get much room for a lamp or heater from above.

If I use a bulb for day and a panel for night. Would I put the bulb on the opposite end of the enclosure? That would seem contradicting to me for a hot end and cool end

Im curious to whats to be said about the deep heat projector. Thats what i was really wanting to hear. I use them for my leo and python and they work very well.

great video! but was honestly hoping to learn something about deep heat projectors because that is what helped me a ton...…I have been using a ceramic heat emitter in my Ball Python Rex's tank to give the desired air temp, however it would still be too warm or too cool. I have used a thermostat since the tank was setup because I learned 20 years ago how much of a difference they make in husbandry, so that was not the issue. I played with covering the mesh and switching the emitter wattages.....then about 4 months ago I was in petsmart and saw some deep heat projectors from Arcadia on the shelf and bought the 50w and the 80w to see which would work better for me...I wish they had a 60-65w because the 80w created a hotspot on Rex's warm hide that worried me and the 50w didn't pack enough of a punch to get to the 82-84F air temps I wanted on the warm side, they stayed between 78 at night and 80-81 in the day...needless to say I bought a double bulb lamp and put two 50w deep heat projectors and have had perfect temperatures since with no crazy hot spots, just an absolutely artistic heat gradient....it stays between 82-85 air temp in the day on the hot side and a steady 78-82 at night then the cold side stays around 76-80 during the day and 74-78 at night....I currently have about $350 of stuff coming from yall for me to upgrade Rex and my Beardie Iggy to bioactive....I feel bad though because I wanted to get everything from yall since I've been a fan since your first leopard gecko videos...had to buy my clean up crew from josh's frogs but I copied what you had on your site for the CUC kits....lol....I know I probably don't need them but I felt it would be best to have some critter turning the soil and what not...
@bull.dozier9271
@bull.dozier9271 2 года назад
@wakenbaker-uk the 80w made the substrate over 105 degrees F...I don't need it for heating my substrate I needed to to keep the air temp correct...so the 2 50w only get to about 80-90 degrees which is perfect in my home and state to maintain temps in summer and in winter because the temps vary so much depending on the seasons...I'd rather do that then risk the dimmer being messed with by my children or accidentally by my fiance and burning or stressing Rex

I always hear don't use red lights, but I don't know why? When I was growing up in the 90s that's all I saw people use. I know that research has greatly improved since then. My own interests in the reptile community didn't start until about 2 years ago, so I haven't used red lights, but curious as to why people don't advise them anymore. Also what would you recommend for night time viewing if not a red or blue light?
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter 2 года назад
Hey there! truly it is because most of issues are the bulbs being used as the single source of heat where the reptile needs a different one/better one etc. They are good to use as supplimental heating for large room sized enclosures however. I will link a Bio Dude Blog on Red Bulbs, hope it helps! Let us know if you have any other questions! www.thebiodude.com/blogs/helpful-husbandry-faqs/red-bulbs-and-reptiles-why-they-are-detrimental-and-can-harm-your-pets-photoperiod

So I plan on upgrading my leopard geckos to halogen heating/lighting but one of my leopard geckos are an albino and I’ve been researching and I see that using certain lighting can be too much for them so is the halogen bulb okay for albino leopard geckos?
@webodeescorpion7037
@webodeescorpion7037 2 года назад
I don't know that. You need to research about albino morphs and their drawbacks, and also about light, uvb, uva, etc. Bulbs
@ReptiFiles
@ReptiFiles 2 года назад
Albino leopard gecko eyes are certainly more sensitive to bright light, but using halogen bulbs as your primary heat source should still be fine as long as your warm hide is getting to the right temperature.

Is there a formula to figure how many bulbs & wattage is needed for a certain sized enclosure
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter

Not really, it is different for everyone and where they live. You have to test and then get it right prior to getting your inhabitant.
