My hunt on eBay was successful, so in this video I will install some real furniture on a Wei-Tech M16A1!

Last time I modified a real, military, Colt M16A1 lower to airsoft specs.
I'm not sure how to amend the upper situation just yet,
So I will pretend it doesn't exist.
STEP 1: RS PARTS
I got my hands on a pair of hanguards,
a pistol grip
and a stock, complete with rack number.
STEP 2: HANDGUARDS
Starting at the beginning, as one should, I install the handguard on the replica.
STEP 3: INSTALLING PISTOL GRIP
Moving over to the pistol grip, the hole for the fire selector detent spring is shallower on the real grip. So the spring needs to be modified.
If you have a factory WE lower, you can just use the factory grip screw,
to install the real pistol grip.
STEP 4: INSTALLING STOCK
Since the real stock is slightly shorter than the WE one, I need to cut the WE stock screw to length.
STEP 5: FUTURE PLANS
In the future I guess I'll redo the upper in a more suitable colour, disregard it for now.
STEP 6: TEST FIRE
Time to test-fire this thing!
Note that I’m performing these modifications at my own risk. These alterations can go very wrong if you lack the skills, tools and knowledge required, and can damage your equipment and parts as well as cause injury on your person if you attempt them yourself.

dedlede777 sorry if this is a dumb question, but where are you getting it engraved? A local shop or are you sending it to a website?

@@michaellibassi9468 Hi. DON'T go somewhere to get it engraved which was what I did at a gunsmith. Just lookup how to do the Salt water Electro etching method. You literally just hook up a q-tip to a battery and rub the salt water on the receiver through a stencil. You can even decide on how deep you want it. If you go on the dogfightink site you can find stencil markings for just about any brand and military variant era. There's even some fictional and pop culture oriented markings. You can even request a custom one from the site owner. I literally bought one and took it to a gunsmith just before I new about the salt water method. I wasted too much money, just do it yourself and you can make it exactly how you want anywhere on any gun.

I really like seeing mods to these airsoft guns I got a we tech m16a1 myself and wanna throw real furniture on it because the stock hand guard feels cheap

Whatever floats your boat. If one is after the pristine look of a brand new M16A1, then keeping the factory furniture is an acceptable strategy. Personally I do not mind the feel of those parts, but the original 1970's furniture adds needed character in conjunction with the real lower. However, a shorter real stock, or a stock of the users' preference, combined with some real hand guards for peace of mind is also doable. Different strokes for different folks.

Holy necropost, Batman! I miss making videos too. But unfortunately work, family and space is in short supply after the pandemic. Hopefully I can start making videos next year. If nothing else maybe I'll upload some videos from my airsoft outings. They are easier to make, edit and render than the disassemblies, unboxings, modifications and other labour intensive videos. But life has its priorities, and RU-vid sadly does not pay the bills for me yet.

Hey, dont worry about making the upper and lower match. Unless it bothers you that much. The shade of the real M16a1s often times didn't match either unless they came from the exact same batch. Colt had a hard time keeping the exact shade of grey between batches and thus, there are a lot of different shades of "Colt Grey". The "Colt grey", per US military specs, wasn't a set shade of grey but had a variety of shades from light grey to almost Black. if I was to take an M16a1 made in 1968 and place it next to an m16a1 made in 1969, chances are they will have a slightly different shade of grey. Sure, M16s almost always left the factory with matching uppers and lowers but through there service, as parts worn out and were replaced, it wasn't uncommon to see an M16a1 with Dark grey a upper and a light grey lower and vice versa.

I thoroughly found this to be one of the most helpful videos out there but one thing that I'm still not sure of is the original stock and buffer tube did you have to cut off some of the buffer tube to make it fit?

It is sad that WE has the wrong A1 upper receiver forging shape (specifically regarding the rear portion of the carrying handle). A nicer upper would go with the RS lower much better!

I am personally going to use this to put a service rifle's wooden furniture on one of these we rifles. Mostly for fallout roleplay in the airsoft fields, and also conventions that allow airsoft props.

There's a maker in wichita kansas that sells his wooden (homemade and professionally done work) stocks for all ar platforms (which can work with airsoft ar platforms such as this) on gunbroker.com .

the we tech stock is actually the A2 stock not A1 cause the A2 is longer then the A1 so in ur video its a more accurate to the real A1

I just tried to do the same thing for my own WE Tech M16A1 and I just managed to snap the screw for my buttstock in half trying to put it through a die. You said it was an M5 screw, do you know the exact specs like pitch and length? The Chinese part manual is not very helpful haha.

Well, I did cut down the original to M5x20-ish (let's say 19mm to be safe), so if memory serves the screw was originally M5x25mm. If you want to be safe, WE sells original spare parts through KY Airsoft.

Just to be nitpicky ;) The M16A1 used the birdcage flashhider. The "M16" however used the three prong. Though your WE has a forward assist which makes it an A1. a bit late on this but XM16E1s used 3-prong flashiders and have a forward assist. I don't know if they have magazine fencing but it should be fine

AEG's are really not my forte, secondly most AEG's are not milspec. To fit real handguards on a CYMA M16 you'd need a milspec forend kit, like G&P, and a real or milspec handguard cap, which would be costly. Secondly you'd need to make room for the battery in the stock, since real M16's don't use batteries. And if you choose a XM16E1 stock, like I have, you'd need to remove the recoil pad every time you change battery, or have the wire accessible to charge the battery without removing it from the replica. Which would be a hassle. Lastly we come to the pistolgrip. On AEG's the pistolgrip houses the motor, which requires a thicker grip and a motor plate. Two things which are not compatible or realistic to incorporate in a real-steel pistol grip. It could probably be done, despite all the challenges above, but it's not on my wishlist.
