I'm currently a tire tech who works at an America's Tire store. I work about 11 hours a day, and go to the gym for another 2 hours after work, all while going to college two days a week, taking 5 classes each semester. This job is physically exhausting, but I love it. And with pay, each store is different. There's a store in my area where all techs start at $12/hr. At my store we're started at $10.
It's a tough job. I'm not gonna bullshit you, it's a difficult job, you're gonna hate it for a bit, you're gonna be exhausted, but it's such a fun job.
Vulgaris Magistralis Do you need prior knowledge of cars before starting? I kinda want to learn more about how cars work ect, by working there but is it something you need to know beforehand? Thanks for the reply
Vulgaris Magistralis Thanks so much for this comment. I'm looking into working for this place. So far, the manager was impressed by my first interview. I'm trying to be lean. I graduated high school fat and got back into being fit after I just finished my first seasonal job. I've been afraid that a full time job would ruin that. I also want to get back into college. May I just ask about your diet?
I'm looking into working at Discount Tires. I'm a little worried about the physical aspect. I don't see many women working at these jobs and while I'm somewhat fit, I'm definitely no body builder. I'm wondering if I should get a different job in the meantime, join a gym, workout a ton, and come back when I've built up some more muscles. Or I could just wing it and expect to be dead tire for 2 weeks and barely survive until eventually I get use to this kind of work. I'm not sure if I'd get hired or not, since I don't have much work experience and none in this kind of field.
Thanks for being the customer that watches us but is being complimentary of us. I hate it when people watch me bolt on their assembly’s and shit but I appreciate what your doing.
Thank you so much for your appreciation me and my husband both work at discount tire it is hard work and expectations are upon us with getting the car out within 15 mins. Thank you so much for the appreciation you have for us discount tire employees. We do so much just to make our customers happy fast and quick. Thank you so much
I’ve been a tech at discount for a little over a year and a half, I started at $11/hr. Recently they moved the starting wage to $14/hr, and I currently make $15.50/hr. It’s a great job to have.
at my location i got 14. im nervous about starting but i do like working with cars. feel like a dr. but for machines lol! the thing im dreading is winter time, oh well. work is work and gotta be positive. good luck to everyone working where winter hits.
I really appreciate your appreciation for us. I work at Discount Tire and although I love it, it’s so tiring on the body. I come home every night and I crash with my body being so sore.
scott mcdavid that’s crazy I started at 10 for training and when I was done I started making 11 it’s been about 3 months since then the start of 2018 I’ll be making 12 Over here in Laredo pay sucks it’s like 7.50 at other places I’m in still in high school (junior)
My interviewer said 5.00$ an hour for I think the first day or few days of training. Then minimum wage, after I get to the actual store I would be started at 10$ then in 4 months 11$. I was confused about the 5$ thing but idc as long as hes either joking or its just for a day or so. Like a trial thing.
Matthew Meyer that doesn’t sound right at all. Always a flat same rate. If your in a region that has a training center when you go to the center what pay your manager tells you at the store in my state you start at 10$ plus. And while your in training that’s your pay for the two weeks
If you aren't the salesman type of person, there's no point in staying here longer than a year and a half or two. I started at $10/hr, not flat rate pay, part time employees (everyone who primarily works on cars is part time) max out at $14.50/hr. We are pushed to do every type of task from a regular rotation no balance, to changing 4 tires on lifted trucks with 35s within 15 minutes. People generally get raises based on how long they've been there except full time salesmen. It's a good place to start out and gain experience, but not worth it in the long run when you compare your pay style to how much your back hurts after a 36 hour week. Discount Tire seems to teach a lot of core values to their employees, but at the end, they just want profit, quality, and speed. But it's exhausting and painful to achieve in some cases.
Myasa Man it’s hard if you make it hard that’s how I feel I’m 16 I’ve been working here for 4 months going on to 5. I’m doing 12 a hour and ok February it will be 13 Yes they want us to do it fast but that’s why we have a teams it’s not all fours on 35s by your self you have guys helping you That’s what makes it easy. Yes you’ll get tired after a long day at work but it’s only hard if you make it hard. Also In the long run if you work your self up to a manger that’s 150,000 to 300,000 a year so yeah it is worth it i the long run. Once I graduate high school Im gonna apply as full time and start working myself up
Dylan Martinez my location wasnt like that. They would put me on cars by myself when I started and got mad at me when I wasnt fast enough and would yell at me being the rookie. Its one of the reasons I quit. I was the best new kid there and they treated me like shit.
@@isnagoveryew-8797 You are young and have no clue what you are talking about. This is coming from someone who started at 16 years old and worked full time while for 8 years and moved up to crew chief, coordinator, 6th man all the way to senior manager and was offered a store manager job in a different state. Store managers have insanely high expectations and if you or your guys don't meet them you are done and demoted back down the 4th manager at best. It was a great learning experience as a teenager but it really does take a toll on your body over the years. Plus the fact that anyone and I do mean anyone from store manager all the way down to the new guy can and will have to get down on the ground and change tires even in your 40's and 50's no matter what kind of injuries you have. But that's a whole other story.
Man, I showed up early, had an appointment, and still waited almost an hour and a half for my car to get finished. Got home and found that one of my tires was about 6lb low, and another missing a valve stem cap. I overall have a great experience at Discount, but this last time was a bit of a letdown.
Understand the f** pressure of being a tech they busted there ass off to make your hour an a half wait less And also costumers are LATE for appointments our shop can’t just shew away
I've had a few bad experiences with the Discount Tire off 20th & East TC Jester here in Houston. A couple of times they didn't balance my tires correctly and it started shaking that evening and had to bring it back, I've had a couple of vehicles damaged and they denied doing it. I won't do business with that location ever again. It seems that's where they train all the new hires and management don't spend enough time training them properly and the turn over in employees is ridiculous.
It's not the training that's bad. A machine detects balancing issues and tells the Tech's where to install weights. Sometimes the machine can get muddy and the sensors think it's a balancing issue when it's not and therefore makes the Tech's incorrectly install weights. And unless it's obviously the fault of the Tech's, they never take responsibility for damages because of all the fake people trying to get free tires.
I was just recently promoted to an assistant manager with discount tire. I started when I was 16 and I turn 20 in a couple months. The company has done nothing but good by me as a company.
The only thing I don’t like about discount is that numerous stores wouldn’t hire me because of my tattoos and they specifically said that’s why they wouldn’t
@@seanconnors7404 As long as you can cover them up its not an issue. You could also always be a inventory tech and it shouldn't be an issue then either.
I’m a tech Rigth now. How much has the pay increase assuming you’re full time now since you’re assistant manager. I started 2 months ago and I’m at 14$hr. Just curious to know the pay for full time
y’all here in the comments complaining about how they’re slow. well, would you rather them go slow and make sure your tires are perfect or would you rather them work fast af where expensive mistakes are more likely to happen?
Cage Calnan lmao what's the point of moving fast if you're only paid $11/hr to change 4 tires balance all and torque everything in 15 minutes or less. Not even per flat rate hour. Fuck outta here with that "they're slow" shit.
Actually I get payed 12 dollars an hour to do this. and if you work slow, you get backed up with a huge demand. So being fast isn't about the money, it's about getting cars in and out so you don't fuck yourselves and can go home at 6:15 rather than 7:00 pm.
They screwed me hard a few days ago, won’t honor price match without a LOT of run around to different employees after install and wait in line more, then tell me about my TPMS after the install and also took my chrome valve stem caps and replaced with plastics. 😕....Brand new Pirellis on 22’s on a custom pearl white Limited F-150. Boerne Texas Location TXS 23. You’ve been warned. Don’t take nice vehicles to discount. I would take my 4-wheelers here though. 🤷🏻♂️👍🏻🇺🇸
Wheels and tires give you a different result everytime you balance your car if the problem persists the roadforce may be too strong on your assembly and the tire may have to be rotated to get a roadforce below 35
My dad worked for discount tire for 23 3/4 years and I’m just starting I’m now 4 months into my career and I make 14.58 and soon will be 16.50 an hour I do 40 hour weeks at 16
My 2010 Toyota Camry LE loves to be at discount tire nothing but shaking on the highway because of a balancing issue, rim bent or rotation not done correctly. I told them just now that I’m at one that I want it done right and I don’t want to keep taking it in to fix it. Not paying out of pocket thank god. This company can’t even do a single dam thing right. It’s annoying how I have to keep taking it back in for service with this car I own. I had to replace 2 tpms tire inflation sensors, then I take it back for balancing issues but I’m so annoyed at this point. I wish they could fix everything right the first time and not have to be in this position. I’ve been here 2 times already within the month of December. Then when it had the rotation I noticed it shakes on the highway, they moved tires that were in the back to the front and front to the back. I understand that part to even the wear on the tires but still. My Drivers side tire isn’t siting right. Why would my hubcap stick out more than the other 3 tires when looking on each side? All my tires are in good shape and rated at an 8 out of 11. This still happens to me all the time
Not really New Jersey pay $14 an hour assistant manager and 5 years later I'm still busting my ass in the shop because of lack of workers due to covid and the lazy people that don't want to work half the time don't even show up for work and it takes about 4 to 5 weeks to fire them and each store is understaffed Discount Tire in New Jersey really sucks but I do it because I want to make sure Northwest New Jersey people's cars are safe and I'm 47 years old can't wait for my new job doing it just to be safe for others...
I work at discount tire and we do not get paid 15$ an hr 😂 I have been working there for 6 months now and I make 10.50. Started at 10.50 and will probably be 10.50 until I go full time 🙈
Disagree.....ive done 4 new by myself in less than 15 min. My record is 133 tires in a 10 hr shift with my bay time being under 15 minutes average.....that 133 isnt counting flats or rotates i did.....this is the speed my newbies run
oh yeah? come to COD_18 in littleton! 3rd busiest in october-november. our backroom team now is kinda shitty, but over the summer we went hard. 18-22 an hour ;)
Really so tires on a rim gets balanced out by itself without any weight do you even know what a balancing machine is do you know what the weights are for and how would it be zeroed out without any weight
