Rick, Good Tip! I would have to agree with that seeing you need to be able to reach over the top of the tire and when you drop the coach, it could make it harder to put into place. (Not just for these covers, but for any that slip over.)

Just replaced my Michelin tires right at 6 years old due to cracks, I cover them 95% of the time with "white" covers, black covers can be 20 degrees hotter than white and heat is another factor. We stop usually for 7 to 14 days and once a year for 30 days. Interestingly the outside of the tires had cracks the inside sidewalls did not. ...safe travels.
@2-old-Forthischet

Ever take off with those covers still on? My GF made custom fit Sunbrella covers for my RV and boat trailer tires. They cover the sidewalls as well as the threads. We used the top of the line Sunbrella material that is guaranteed for ten years. The covers were made from an old boat cover that was over twenty years old and still looked great. Yes, I replaced that boat cover for a brand new Sunbrella item.

Insult my white tire covers all you want but I've known since we got our rv 3 years ago to cover our tires and why. Also to not use any kind of petroleum distilliats on the tires. I use 303 protectant to not only make them look better but protect them from uv. Yours look really nice. Might have to upgrade to a set of those but I want to wait a little while and see if you forget they're even there and drive off with them still on. Lol. P.S. David you look like you've lost some weight, way to go.(no pun intended). Safe and fun travels you two!

I made a note that I put in the cabinet where there slide out switches are to remind me to remove them!!!! :) I was not insulting your covers...I just find then ugly for us seeing we have a dark coach and the white covers would just be totally out of place. :) You are correct in not using any petroleum based products on the tires. In fact, that will void the warranty if you have an issue any they test for it. I also used 303 on them...but I guess not often enough. And yes, lost weight! I have the Magnashade windshield cover. I really like the owner..cool guy and love my front shade. I will not however, spend that much money to save less than 5 minutes putting on tire covers. You still have to put them on before you dump your air and you still have to reach around the tire and get the top of your forearms all full of dirt and grease. As I think about retirement, I am rethinking how much I spent and what the real return on the investment is.

I would never put black on black, especially in hot weather. It's like put your hand on a black car in Az when it's 115 degrees, then put your hand on a white car. Almost impossible to touch black car. What do you think the black shades are doing to the tires. I worked in tires many years, have seen many dried out tires. As for Armour All, as someone stated, keep theep it off yor tires. 303 is the best for for tires, slide seals, window, everything on an RV. If your sitting for long periods of time, use it maby monthly, if you are moving all the time, every six months.

I go with the white Covercraft snap ring covers because they reflect light and keep the tires from solar heating. The black covers absorb heat and some of that heat transfers to the tires. I'm not quite so shallow that looks are that important. But I guess for some people, looks are more important. I call those people, insecure.

I can understand covering your tires when parking in the sun for weeks or more at a time, but I don’t understand the need to cover them when parking for a few days at a time. I guess every hour is a small percent of the tires life. When I store my coach, it is a few feet from the coach next to it, so the tires really never get much sunlight. I guess I need to understand how much indirect UV light it gets.

@DavidBott
@DavidBott 5 лет назад
As Russell mentioned, Andrew helps me along that line as he details our coach at least once a year. Other than that, I wash it and rinse it with Di water so I don't need to dry it as that can also make for more "spider web" type marks. So after it has been detailed, we use a ceramic spray to keep it like you see it. For the most part, now all I need to do is rinse the coach with Di water to get the dust off of it. Unless we drive it in rain, or if we are in a very dusty area and it rains dirt, I usually don't need to use a lambswool pad on it with soap. Just wet, foam cannon it, and rince with Di water for spotless drying.

Covering the tires doesn't help only using them will or suspending them like collectors do, they never let cars sit on the tires for extended periods of time they put them on jack stands or drive them at least once a week and use a protectant
@larryreno8293
@larryreno8293 5 лет назад
Dale Carlson when vehicles sit the tires will flat spot. If they sit uncovered they will flat spot and begin to crack due to degradation because of UV rays. It takes about 15 minutes of driving to work out the flat spots the cracks only get worse! Keeping the wheels off the ground only stops the flat spot.
@dalehefferman
@dalehefferman 5 лет назад
@@larryreno8293 I think I meant collector cars which sit inside away from UV rays off the ground so they don't flat spot or start to crack. The message was driving not sitting is the only solution to stop cracking. I just changed the tires on my jeep they have been on there 10 years they where just starting to crack between the treads not on the side wall no special care ever given to them other than driving all the time.

I don't quite understand the reasoning here. If the lack of movement in distributing parafin throughout the tire is what causes cracking, how do covers fix the issue? Seems to me, even if tires aren't exposed to UV, they will still crack if left sitting idle for long periods of time. That's according to Michelin, not me. If it makes you feel better, cover them up. I think it's much better to jack up your vehicle/trailer when in storage and air down to 50% of running pressure. I understand you can't do this with a bus, but I have a feeling the cost of new tires every 7 years isn't a problem for you.
@DavidBott
@DavidBott 5 лет назад
UV on the rubber that is not softened by the paraffin causes it to "age" and thus crack. It is not so much the heat as it is the actual UV light. (Like a sunburn is not caused by heat, but the UV) Per my face to face chat with Michelin and an inspector, once you start moving again, the paraffin again gets to move and soften the compound. I would rather put new tire money into buying a new coach then to buy new tires. Not sure about your comment of money. Do you own a house? We don't. This is our home. Just like a home owner, the cost in this case is nothing more than our monthly mortgage. The home we sold in 2013 was appraised at $300K. The price of our coach was $330K. So more or less we have the same monthly payment. (Just no longer have to pay $12K a year in property taxes from Upstate NY!!!) If we were to by another coach at some point, as long as the payment is around the same, we are just fine with that. I would much rather do that every 7 years than to put that money into tires. :)

Yeah, I bet it'd be REAL easy to drive off with those things on. I would prefer the color red. You'd never miss RED tire covers!!

I just lost weight...thanks for noticing. If you go back in history in the videos, I have to say, I am amazed myself. I will also say I am loving it as I can do much more and I am, and now need to be, more active. (You will find out why soon!)

It was our house for 9 years that we lived full time on the road. We sold everything in 2013 and just bought a home again looking to setting down.

Same question. Is Michelin going to replace your tires?
@DavidBott
@DavidBott 5 лет назад
Same answer...It is hand on a case by case basis. If I was to say yes, that goes not mean they would say that to someone else. But in any case, they would be prorated.

Anyone knows this ...... tires need to be used and protected, RV should be drive every 3-4 weeks for a min of an hour to warm them up and prevent flat spots. Not only should you put the covers on them , but use tire protection 303 on both inside and outside sidewalls .
@thecloneguyz
@thecloneguyz 5 лет назад
All you got to do is pull it forward and rotate the tires 180 degrees you don't have to actually drive it
@ryanp135

Richard Wolfe 10000000% incorrect ! I dare you to call Michelin, continental,Toto Commerical time 800 and ask them . FMCA meeting Michelin and continental BOTH did presentations and explained why the tires need to be used and heated up.

Richard Wolfe oh the ignorance in your statements is unreal. You obviously haven’t done any research. Just like Dave didn’t think Sunlight didn’t do any damage, next videos from him will be either a blowout or getting all tires replaced . Rubber dries out if not used . Exactly like on a car that is stored too long , what happens ? Tires dry rot from not being used . Stop sitting on your brain and actually read technical document s

2:45 "They're not cheap". Nothing Dave Bott buys or uses is cheap. Him and my brother who has a $1.5 M Prevost Conversion should get together and compare their hi-tech accouterments. But big, expensive RV's you may as well spend the $$ for the best. I hardly ever see tire covers on cheap tag trailers........

Hey...Our Tiffin coach was only around $350K.... Just wanted to mention that as people for some reason think it is much more. :)

@@DavidBott Please forgive me if I sounded disparaging, It was not my intention. I notice that you, like my brother, will do extensive research and usually obtain the best and highest quality of the support systems needed for this lifestyle. Cost is usually a secondary consideration. I admire that quality very much. Too many in our society think that high quality products are a rip-off when one can get the "same" thing for half the cost. The hidden problem there is....you buy it twice, if not more. This goes to everything from tire protectors, to sewer hoses, solar controllers, tires,....everything.

Your other reply came in via e-mail, so I wanted to reply. No worries, I just happened to mention it as people for some reason think we have a $1M coach and we surely do not. Though it is a very, very nice coach. :) You are right however, somethings that you pay for are worth it and thus is worth paying more for. This product is well made and I was very pleased with the construction when then arrived. And yes, you surely can buy products 1/2 the price sometimes, but you also run the chance at it being a knock-off. Then again, some RV products have inflated values for NO REASON other than they put the word RV on the box thus to just sell something to someone that just does not know better. I really hate that!!!!

Tire covers are BS, i have a 2022 Wolfpack 25pack12 38ft toy hauler, i just blew 3 tires on a 2hr trip. F. Y. Forest river. Just buy decent made in USA 10ply tires. How many parked cars do you see with Tire covers. A real tire even in the sun will last for many years. My brother has 20yr old classic cars. Many with original tires. Just buy decent tires
