Walked the SDW with my wife while the race was on. Took 9 days. Can’t imagine running it even once, let alone five times. Beautiful scenery though! Congratulations!
You've hit the 40k mark!!! 🥳🥳🥳🥳 (well deserved!).. This video was epic, really great to see the mental strength you use to get yourself through the hard times. And the lady you spoke to at the Alfriston aid station was Jane, she's someone i've marshaled with before and I know I know her but neither of us know where from (i'm from Oxford so it's not that i'm local). Such a lovely lady! well done on such an epic achievement 👌🏻👌🏻
For some reason, reading the video title, I expected a DNF!…..so glad you made it….i felt it all the way even though I could never manage that…and you took overt Loyd’s video. Great effort 👍🍷
Inspirational as ever Stephen. Congratulations on finishing the race and for receiving the 500 mile buckle! BTW, love the 'Right Here Right Now' thing at the end - great choice of music! Looking forward to seeing what you get up to next. Val d'Aran CDH for me a week on Friday!
Oh WOW!! Matt CDH will be amazing. I had such a great time when I went there in 2021. Just keep your head in the game when you are burning up in the heat and on what seems like the longest climb of your entire life!! You'll get it done.
I saw you filming at the start and thought 'crikey wasn't he at Cape Wrath the other week, how's he managing this' 😂congrats on making the finish! This was my first 100 miler and I was one of those idiots who went off too quick at the beginning!
haha. I think it's probably fine to go off a bit fast actually, just not stupid fast beyond your capabilities. My approach is probably a little over conservative. Get's the job done without risking too much.
Ooooh been looking forward to this 👌🏻 Interesting shoe choice, any reason behind that particular offering? All I can say is a huge congratulations on finishing yet another 100 miler, fantastic achievement. You have inspired me so much that I've decided the 2025 event will be my first bash at the 100 mile distance so maybe see you on the start line 😉 Big well done to Victoria as well for chasing you along the route 😀
Hi Paul. So the idea with the shoe was that is was going to be dry. The trails of the SDW are not technical. It's all easy running. I was injured and I wanted as much cushioning as possible to try and prevent the injury flaring up. whether it would have been any different with my Hoka Speedgoats I don't know, but the injury only started to hurt in the last 10 miles. So I'm happy with the choice I think. And yes I may well see you there next year!
Your race videos are so enjoyable to watch. I can´t decide if I like yours or Loyds best, so I guess we have to call it a tie😊😆. Anyway, congratulations on finishing your 5th SDW. You have definately earned that 500mile buckle.👏👏👏
Hi Stephen, great vid. You and Loyd have inspired me to take on my first 100! With that in mind I'm looking at kit. I notice your soft flasks have hooks on them which would stop them slipping down into the pockets as they empty... what brand are they as I can't seem to find anything similar!? Thanks very much.
Hi there. So these are Salomon soft flasks, but they are the ones with filters www.salomon.com/en-gb/shop-emea/product/sflask-xa-filter-490-16.html#color=71683&size=29055
Well done on your finish! I'm intrigued by the Y Food. I'm usually a Huel drinker but saw these in Holland and Barrett yesterday and got a couple. Tried the salted caramel today post 6 hour training run and it's delicious! Have you had the powders? Do they taste the same?
fantastic, again mate! watching this just inspires me to revisit it for that one day buckle, such an beautiful route in our back yard. hope the recovery goes well !
If this happened other week , i was on sdw on my mtb when the young guy , was running along placing the markers for the race . He kept over taking me on the hills , i couldnt shake him 😅 a tough route well done to all u ultra runners 😅
Never underestimate the will to finish! The lady at the end swore to me early in the race that poles were pointless, but there she is, conquering the SDW with some DIY ingenuity! 👏
Great video as always Stephen. Huge kudos on getting it done despite the tiredness and the injury mate. 💪👏🏅 It was missing a special something though....Mr Paul Coates! 🤣🤪
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you are an absolute inspiration Stephen. Everything about the manner that you approach these events is to be admired. 500 well deserved 👏🏻👏🏻
That's really appreciated John. I think the key is to just enjoy these things. It may not look like it all the time! But I think if you enjoy what you do, that will come across.
Congratulations on a great video and, more importantly, another successful SDW100. Love this race and this year was my 3rd finish. I swore never again when it was over but now …🤔
That Yfood probably tastes better as it has 20x the amount of sugar vs the same calories worth of Huel. Fine if you're mid run but wouldn't recommend having it day to day.
Well done Stephen. Nice to meet you again, this time during the race and not as when I met you first when I was the last finisher on the NDW 100 2 years ago. :-) The video brought back great memories. It's some achievement to get the 500 mile medal.
Cheery? Me? Oh blimey, softening up in my old age. I'll have to be more cantankerous next time! Although I'm pretty sure I'm as miserable as hell in the Cape Wrath videos. Let's all look forward to that shall we?
Thank you! I’m not Adam, not this year. I’ve other things on. Off to Switzerland at the beginning of August for the Swiss Alps 100. Will you be at the NDW?
Thank you Jen. it was touch and go before the start but once we got going it was actually ok. But I don't have your ability to train for three disciplines! You are equally crazy with some of the stuff you do.
Thank you so much Alan. Well done for the race on Sunday. The terrain round there is not easy so good job. Honestly the South Downs are much easier to run on than the SW coast path. What do you think ??!!
@@FilmMyRun Your SDW run sure was a grand effort so close to your Cape Wrath run , the SWCP can be hard running, I was inspired by and in Awe of the ARC runners, Saw you run off the Dunes-of doom a few years back .I’ve walked all the SWCP and parts many times ..
Stephen, many congratulations on getting that 500 mile medal after completing the SDW in tough circumstances - namely, your crazy race calendar! It was great to talk with you and exchange waves with Victoria at Cocking, and it was a glorious weekend to finish the race, something that happened for both of us. See you on the hills again soon, and thank you for your continued positive presence in the ultra running video making scene. We have such a terrific community of runners, and your films remind us of that!
