Video depicts amount of finish and metal wear after 3000 rounds. Complete disassembly and discussion about the finish.
After watching the video post production I should comment that the black finish under the top finish is probably a primer coat before the cerakote finish coat spraying at the factory rather than parkerized.
The video shows shooting the firearm at the end and I hope Old War Monger that requested this review has his answers he was seeking about build quality and structural integrity of the steel used.
Watch for yourself and see how good these pistols really are.
This is the supplemental video for this presentation, a Part II if you will. • Video

10:21 * Important * This reference to the firing pin stop plate stress fracturing has happened to OTHER RU-vidrs doing reviews after 1000 rds. This pistol in this video has 3000+ and no issues. I checked the owner's manual and there is no reference to ammo type at all. I suspect (no proof) that others online which are few to begin with are using a hot +P ammo of some sort. You can find +P .45 ACP in anywhere from 960 fps to 1900 fps 78gr defense ammo and very hot loaded .45 ACP and I believe that is what caused their part failures. This pistol is clearly designed for traditional 230gr Ball ammo circa Government Model

Sorry, the Tisas A1 Army IS a parkerized finish, not some cheap spray-on, all sharp corners of any pistol, any brand any finish is going to wear and show steel, this is normal with a lot of use. All magazines will show far more wear, this is steel on steel wear. Frame, slide & barrel are hammer-forged, Tisas is a top quality military firearms supplier firm of Turkey.
@megatrends
@megatrends Год назад
it's been established by Tisas and their factory tour video that they parkerized it then srayed a cerakote over that. If you watch my video you will see a kind of black finish under the cerakote. Also been confirmed by other owners of this pistol. To be honest i would have preferred Tisas just parkerized it even though the cerakote is ok in my opinion. Did Tisas start parkerizing only on newer models? I don't know. I do know the magazine i got with it is perkerized.

The broken firing pin stop was probably one of the earlier cast 'MIM' parts. Not so long ago, Tisas claims to have stopped using MIM parts once their supply ran out. Allegedly, all Tisas psrts are now forged steel. I love the Tisas 1911s. My favorite gun is a Colt stainless series 80, 45, but I own two Tisas 1911s. One is the '1911A1 U S Army WG', model, and a 1911A1 Service model. At $429.00 and $350.00 respectively, they are inexpensive, but definitely NOT cheap! They ard great guns. I bought my tisas 1911a1 service A bit more than a year ago. Of general note mine came with a flat mainspring housing. Unfortunately I have only had the time for a couple of range sessions with it, And on each occasion I have had a stoppage due to The firing pin retaining plate I becoming dislodged and sliding down halfway out of place, Resulting in the slide not being able to return to battery. I suspect That the slide trying to go back into battery is what locked the plate halfway down Or it probably would have come completely out. Waiting for an answer from the folks in Tennessee.

Firing Pin Stop Plate cracking is nothing new, it happens. Decades ago I read that the proper method to relax a cocked 1911 hammer is to pinch it between the thumb and forefinger of the non-firing hand, pull the trigger and ease the hammer down. In Jerry Kuhnhausen's book, 'The U.S. M1911/M1911A1 Pistols & Commercial M1911 type Pistols A Shop Manual' (volume II) on page 140 in the parts inspection and reassembly section it reads: "inspect for excessive wear, hammer peening, and BEGINNING CRACKS."

My magazine was a bit stiff which caused a couple of failure to load and chamber the last round in the magazine but that loosened up after being used and only happened twice on the first day shooting it. They are using a different magazine company now from reviews Ive seen and theyve had no issues, I had no issues with Mecgar in my firearms, very good magazine company, it was just new.other than that if you use 230 gr ball ammo you should not have issues for the life of this firearm. @megatrends
@megatrends 2 года назад
Thank you, yes lube ... Lucas Oil Extreme Duty Gun Oil or often I use good old fashioned Remington Remoil especially in winter. The Remoil use for me was a given once I saw an extreme torture test on 1911 handguns by freezing the handgun to subzero temps with different lubricants. Remoil was the only one that allowed the slide to return into battery after firing a round. I live in Maine and sometimes shoot when there is a windchill of below zero and it has been fine for me using that oil. Hope this helps and wasn;t too winded.

@@megatrends very interesting your use of lube in such a convoluted market.....I once read that the original 1911 was designed by JMB to run on sperm whale oil.....that was probably viable in 1911.....but the whaling industry became less and less viable the oil industry scrambled for a replacement and came up with with ATF, the article also said ATF has the same properties of sperm oil with some additional benefits .....was wondering if you had ever come across that finding ? @megatrends
@megatrends Год назад
You can dry fire a 1911 … if you’ve disassembled one to clean and service the firing pin you would understand why. The firing pin stop I’m almost certain wasn’t designed for hot loads or hot reloads. It also hadn’t been a widespread problem for Tisas so that also lends to my assumption they’re using ammo that is too hot. I’m no expert … 😀

He talks a lot about the worn finish. I like worn finish. Worn looks good to me. On my tisas I took 4/0 steel wool and lightly rubbed the matt finish to smooth it out and paid attention to all of the sharp edges to make it look like an old worn workhorse. In my opinion a 1911 looks bad if everything looks new.

Great video brother, you think a 12 pound recoil spring is to lite for my ria 1911 gi 45 ? Tank you.
@megatrends
@megatrends Год назад
Depends on the ammo you are going to shoot. These do not handle hotter self defense ammo very well which also depends on the nose shape of the bullet for hollow point ammo. Im assuming you have a full sized Government model US Arm which Armscor uses an 18lb spring for 230gr ball ammo. 12 seems very light, usually the hotter the ammo the stiffer the spring you want. I think the Tisas has a 17lb spring in 45 acp for 230gr ball ammo. Ammo choice factors into this. This website has good info and lists the different tensions for different types and manufacturers. kydexowbholsters.com/1911-recoil-spring-replacement-chart

@@agustinequihua936 Not judging and I don’t know anything about you but the most common cause of 1911 issues with regard to jamming and ejection is shooter error. Usually a loose grip … I don’t know your experience level. I see it often however with newer shooters. They blame the firearm … again I don’t know you or your story but if it applies to you hold onto your money and work on holding the pistol very hard and stiff. A loose grip acts as a shock absorber and prevents the slide from ejecting the casing and you get a stove pipe. 1911s usually almost all fun flawlessly. Again I mean no 8nsult, some people get upset when someone mentions that. It is just a common thing. Thanks. 😀

@megatrends
@megatrends Год назад
It has run everything that is 230 grain ball ammo. Which is what it was desaigned for. Probably will handle most hollowpoints if they are rounded on the nose enough. I've not experimented with bullet grain with regard to cycling the slide enough and timing properly. I've not heard anyone complain about it though a couple people changed the recoil spring to accommodate a more potent round. Personally I wouldn't shoot Plus P ammo in this and the manual doesn't specify what not to shoot in it.
