The Tisell 40mm Type B pilot watch is PERFECT.
Perfect for me, that is. I've finally acquired what I deem to be a proper Type B for my taste and wrist size. At about 315 usd, it was a bit more than I wanted to spend but since it ticked all the boxes, it was the one I had to have. Come watch!

I own this watch! In really surprised you got one in for review! It’s a nice piece for people not willing to blow 1k+ for a higher end movement in a pilot watch. For the price it’s amazing with the heat blued hands, sapphire glass and 28800 bph movement . They could easily sell this for triple the price. Highly recommend. Also, the lume is blue LGW and super pretty

I doubt that the hands are heat blued, they are most likely painted, or annodized blue. I would like to buy another Pilots watch though. I had a Ticino handwinding Pillts watch that I wore everyday for a year, until it stopped handwinding.

DonjonArmory the hands actually are heat treated blue. I owned this watch and compared with my stowa marine and the hue is the same. I’ve also seen alot of painted blue hands and it definitely doesn’t look painted. Great quality watch

Nice watch! Love the sterile dial and the way the dial lights up. But it's weird that the seconds hand has no lume. Please put it on a bund or a 70s style leather cuff.

Wish Seiko did something just like this. They have similar ones, but either tiny Seiko 5's or insanely large Kinetics and nothing quite hits the mark.

Let me tell you one more thing: Tisell are not made by machines in a factory, but are processed and assembled directly by the president and watch expert, Oh Chang-do. Since Oh Chang-do does the inspection himself, there are almost no defects. Thanks to these features,Tisell is very popular in Korea, where I live.

so a couple of weeks ago I wore my Luftwaffe watch down the pub and nobody batted an eyelid. last week I wore my SS Obergruppenfuhrer dress tunic and all of a sudden i'm a "racist" and have an "attitude problem". if someone can explain my mistake I would greatly appreciate it.

I have had this one for a couple years and like it, however just now I opened the caseback for the first time to regulate the watch and found NO gasket......wonder if anybody else has found that and where I could find an appropriate gasket

I got Tisell Flieger tybe B 40mm for many years and it still running well. Bought type A 40mm recently and feel happy with this purchase of these very well made watches. For my aged eyes Type A lume is much easier to read in the absolute darkness.

Great Review. One side note: Those watches were not issued to pilots put to the observers/navigators on bombers and were part of the navigation equipment. The watch was not part of the personal gear and had to be returned after a mission. Interestingly even the manufacturers call them pilot watches today. :-) What I don't like about this model is the lume pattern and the missing lume on the seconds hand. On the originals only the even numbers were lumed. This made the dial to appear less cluttered in low light conditions. Laco did a great job reproducing that exact look with their Original Fliegers. Jep, different price point tough ;-)

Well for the 28,000bph miyota, the AR coated double dome, it's right on par with similar watches but yeah, I wish it was cheaper and so does my wallet!

Whoa! hahaha It's supposed to be very easy. Once you get used to the reverse order of the hours/minutes, it's quite swift. This one might be a bit on the small side for you. I would recommend a 42mm. I want those meds! I could sure use them right now :p

They offer thed same watch with an accurate SEAGULL ST25. Slightly cheaper. Love the onion or diamond shaped crown and blued hands. Period accurate.

The sterile black dial, blued hands, diamond / onion crown, approx size and shape of watch make it historical looking . My boxes got checked. Needs riveted leather band. This is a winner flieger in my book and very accessible. Though notcSwuss movement which is ok, but a Miyota movement is a reliable workhorse engine. I am agonizing choosing a Tisell versus Escapement Time Flieger watches. Both are below $200. I might get a type A escapement time and type B Tisell .

I love my Sinn 556I but man I wish they would use BGW9 and I wish they would lume the minute markings like they use to. I'm not sure why Sinn stopped luming the minute markings and only lume the hour markings now. That Tisell looks beautiful man. Thanks!

How much was it through the European retailer and what was the process like? The US retailer doesn't have the type B in a 40mm. I'm thinking about doing the same and selling my Orient Flight because I feel it's too big for me.

Fantastic bang per buck Flieger. Still feel slightly ambivalent about buying a watch worn by pilots that bombed the city I live in but the type B face IS a great design. Thanks for a thorough and fun review. 😀

No chance are those hands heat treated at this price, they'll be painted or chemical treated. A nice enough B type for the price, maybe better than the Laco 39 given the green coloured indices on that one.

I looove the Tisell B style watch. Great bang for your buck. The only things that would nudge it to 10/10 territory would be to straighten out the lug's side walls to make it less field watch-y, and more pilot-y (like the Laco Erfurt etc). And secondly, if Miyota would try just a tiiiny bit more and make their 90S5 rotor not so noisy. Combine the almost-silent rotor of the 821A, and the specifications of the current 90S5 would create a home run for them.

No worries! The one I got was from their euro distributor. I think they have different models. OR, someone is straight up hijacking their name! hah! I don't think that's the case, though.

The 43mm model has the Sea-Gull ST50 and the traditional style riveted leather strap. The 40mm model comes with either a 90S5 or a 9015, your choice of crown ("onion" or "hammer") and the heavy stitched strap. It took me a little while to figure that out due to the non-intuitive website layout.

Recently acquired an SNZF15 and I remember a while ago you did a mod with the seiko SNKl07 which is incredibly hard to find. Do you have any other good suggestions for an alternative to the SNKl07?

Any Seiko 5 with a 3:00 crown will fit. Make sure it has a 7s26 movement and use the crown for the SNZF.

With watches with a huge crown like that, it will be uncomfortable to wear on my wrist. I found that to make wearing such watches comfortable, I wear a Leather Cuff strap. With this strap, it elevates the watch a little more above my wrist to make it more comfortable to wear. The one I use is the Fluco Vigo Riveted Cuff straps from Holben Fine watch bands, which are comfortable.

Thats what I was afraid of, so I ordered it with the more ordinary "hammer crown". It gives up a lot of the German styling, but for daily wear, I think it will be more comfortable.

I imagine (but don't know) that the original purpose may have been to enhance visibility in daylight. Heat-induced bluing is better than painting because it cannot flake off.

You have to remember these watches where worn on your outer cuff of your flight jacket not your wrist, big dial because vision blurred because of goggles and light. It was function not style. Cool to bring it back. So why minutes on outer face? Easy one.

When I go on a bombing run In post-apocalyptic Earth, I sure hope I have a proper pilot watch. It could happen! I've played enough flight simulators! I am assuming the minutes on the outside are for easy timing of bombing runs and/or fuel?

I've had P51s, FU4s, P38s, F14s, F15s, F16s, A6s, as well as A6Ms and VF1s from Macross (and the SBY Yamato) in my videos. Since this watch IS modeled after Germany's WWII specification's for their pilot's watches, why would I use an american fighter ya? I love all war birds.

The lume is wonderful on the watch. It goes great with the blue heat treatment. Ties up the aesthetics nicely.

Weird, I just ordered my 40mm Type-A pilot, and it's supposed to come with a 90S5 movement. For some reason it says 9015 on the rotor, despite not having the date (and I can only pull out the crown to one position). Has Miyota started labeling 90S5s as 9015 recently, or did Tisell mess around with the movement?
