You're not meant to wind an automatic watch. The only exception are watches with the Chinese Standard Movement (Tongji) with the standard double-clutch system that are so hopelessly inefficient at capturing energy from your wrist that they will eventually stop if you don't help them along by winding them every so often (which is why many slightly more expensive watches with Chinese standard movements are fitted with a clone of Seiko's Magic Lever winding system, as it is much more efficient). What you have here is a Miyota 90S5, which, like all Miyota movements, uses one of the most efficient winding systems in the world. It only winds one way (unidirectional winding) - when the rotor is rotated clockwise. In studies they did decades ago, they discovered that a unidirectional winder captures more energy from people who are not very active (i.e. sit at a desk all day) because of lower friction. A bidirectional winder, like all your other watches have, has more friction so is not so effective at capturing energy from small wrist movements - they're more suitable for active people whose day involves a lot of wrist movement (like people who work at a kitchen, restaurant or warehouse). In general, you should avoid winding an automatic watch manually because it puts a lot of wear on the winding system. You should just wear it and let your body keep it wound. If you can't shake the feeling that the watch is going to stop, get one with a power reserve indicator, like the Miyota 9100, 9110 or 9130, and that way you can read off the dial how many hours of running remain in the mainspring.
Rotor noise is very common with Miyota 9000 series movements, but is really only noticeable if you shake the watch and hold it up to your ear. During normal wear on your wrist you don't even hear it. Winding can also be a little 'rough' sometimes as you have also pointed out, otherwise this is an exceptional movement for the money. It can easily run +/- a couple of seconds a day, and is dead simple to regulate (although you do need a timegrapher) I do like this open heart watch, it is now $219 but worth every penny, so I may just 'pull the trigger' on one. Tisell service is usually excellent but there have been exceptions to this.
The dial is hybrid of Breguet hands and Blancpain style Roman numeral on Villerete models. Dial has the so called flinque texture with 24 triangles ( or sectors)meeting in the center of the dial
The price increase is because they now give you a nice box. Most likely you are not used to unidirectional rotors, but yes, the miyota 90S5 will spin like that on the direction that does not wind the watch. I kind of like making it spin, is like my personal spinner. I maybe should not do it so much.
Good to know about the box. I definitely did not receive a box, and was disappointed it didn't come with one. What I'm hearing is, the spinning sound is perfectly normal.
Kinsiderations Correct. Like ANY uni-directional automatic, the Miyota 9015/90s5 will free-wheel in the non-winding direction. Rest assured that IS normal. Others like Seiko or ETA that have bi-directional winding systems won't free-wheel that way, but on the other hand, their winding mechanisms are more complicated and require more maintenance as a result.
