Q: Why is Toxeus so deadly? A: He uses two potent masteries. One designed for single target damage over time. Hit and forget. Or, actually run away and let the target die. Rogue mastery was designed to one-shot Typhon in the original gear with +4 skills and fully geared. Let that sink in. Combined with Rogue is Dream Mastery. With the ability to reflect damage. Given that players maximize damage output... this is also deadly. So that, in a nutshell is why Toxeus is a very challenging opponent. That’s why killing him is not a requirement to open the Majestic Chest of the secret passage. So. You can ignore him if you can survive his embrace! 😉

I recall my first time in the secret passage of Rhodes. I had an Earth/Nature pet build, and had a terrible time defeating the bosses, particularly Toxeus. I became consumed with wanting to defeat this undead creature. This lead to trying to find specific items that reduce damage from undead. Spoiler. I will tell what I did. . . . . . . . . I wanted the Necromancer Robe. An epic set piece of very low level. Very few monsters can drop this item. The highest chance is an undead mage just before Athens underground, in a crypt. Jacinto, Rotten Hyacinth of Thessaly (not sure of the city name). He can also drop other pieces of the set as well. But the robe gives 50% reduction of damage from undead. That’s huge! But it is a long farm, from the nearby rebirth fountain. Lysia Spellbreaker can drop it too, at a lower chance. She is just before the Parnassus waypoint. She also can drop the Necromancer’s Staff. Another piece of the set. Some charms have a completion bonus of 50% increased damage to undead. And... Persephone’s Tears relic reduces physical damage from undead. These are found in act 4. Perversely, I found more in act 5, with the lower chance, because the Golden Boar Hildisvini drops them sometimes. The rebirth fountain just before the boar makes it way more efficient than running from the Hades waypoint down to Hades. Hades has a better drop rate, but it takes much much longer to get to him. So less chances per hour. Lastly, leveling up allows you to add equipment to boost your damage beyond the spell/abilities. (Though main stat also increases damage as you level up too.)

I am Confused. Why fight the first two bosses in the Rhodes secret passage? I set my pets to defensive and run past the Nightmare boss, hugging the wall. The second boss, Dave the turtle, can be skipped. His door is not locked. It is imaginary. This makes fun of the Dungeons and Dragons meme of the 1980s. “I disbelieve!”. A character saying this dispels any illusion. Players abused this 0 cost counter spell because it was free. In TQ, just run through the closed door. It will not hinder you. As I recall there are 4 Easter egg epic sets: Santa Claus, Sherlock Holmes, Pirate Captain and Texan Cowboy.
