Offensive Ability does not work for Bows so ignore my belabored explanation about Finesse for this build if you're using a bow. I was explaining something I learned earlier in the day about Finesse but apparently was too dumb to realize this wasn't the best context for that explanation -- hence this correction!
Hey Almar. Thanks for the build guide and all the other TQ content you've put out over time. I've especially used your quest walkthroughs on your website when I first started playing the game a couple of weeks ago. There are a couple of misconceptions in this video though: 1. Offensive Ability does nothing for ranged characters. Ranged attacks (Bows, Throwing Weapons and Staves) cannot miss with their attacks. The trade off being that they cannot crit either. Offensive Ability is primarily a melee physical stat, as that is the only damage type in this game that can crit. 2. The percent increased pierce ratio on the Philip's items don't stack additively with the pierce ratio on your weapon. Percent increases to pierce ratio multiply the pierce ratio on your weapon. So the 28% on the chest + 24% on the legs give you a total of 52% increased pierce ratio, which then multiplies the pierce ratio on your weapon. So 25% pierce ratio on Bladestring becomes 38% pierce ratio instead. 3. This isn't a misconception, but rather a small pet peeve of mine. Referring to percent damage increases as "flat damage increases" irks me a little. Flat damage is a static amount of damage that's added onto your attack, like the 20 pierce damage on the Philip's Legacy 2 piece bonus. Percent damage increases, like the ones on Tracker's Hood and Apollo's Will, are multipliers for your flat damage (although the mechanics behind which sources of flat damage get multiplied are a little confusing to me). You gave a shout out to Clex Plays a couple of videos ago. His videos on defenses and offenses were very good in explaining both of these mechanics. All that being said, thanks again for your content. I will always check out your videos for inspiration on new builds :)
I said Offensive Ability did something for ranged characters? Huh, that's weird. You're right though it doesn't, it's exclusively for melee. Dunno why I said it worked for bows Also I am curious where you read about Pierce Ratio as this would be news to me
Ahhh I see, my explanation of Finesse and why it wasn't as good of an ability as it appears to be implied that Offensive Ability worked for Ranged characters. I should have explicitly said during that it didn't work for Ranged characters; In my mind I was explaining why the ability was less powerful than it appeared and I using my OA as part of my example. I just learned about Finesse not being as good as I thought so I wanted to talk about it and I try to give generalized advice that is applicable to as many people as possible which is why I went into the indepth explanation about Finesse -- but it's kind of dumb for me to do that on a build guide specialized for bows.
@@AlmarWinfield My apologies. You didn't explicitly state that OA helped your damage, but as you explained in another comment, your explaination of it could be misconstrued as such in a build relating specifically to bow attacks. As for the Pierce Ratio I got the information from Clex' video on Offenses in TQ, in which he explains that increases to pierce ratio are multiplicative with the base, not cumulative. Another source is a video from IceFreeze, in which he uses the Skeleton Darts M.I. throwing weapon, which has a 50% base Pierce Ratio, and combines it with Philip's Chest (30% increased Pierce Ratio) and Blade Honing level 8 (72% increased Pierce Ratio) to obtain 100% Pierce Ratio on his weapon.
@@GETTODACHOPPAH I asked Icefreeze last night about it and he confirmed youre right. Thanks for letting me know, I googled about it and there's like no math online for it =(
Sadly +% increased pierce ratio from Philip items isn't calculated like that. It's 25% pierce ratio from bow as a pierce ratio BASE, then you multiply any +% per piece of Philip to that 25% base. So the formula here is 25% x1.50 (25% + 25% from 2 Philip piece) = 37.5% pierce ratio, and not 75%. You can check that by doing the following : equip 3 pieces of Philip, which is +75%. When you do that, you could think of getting 100% pierce ratio, but it's wrong. Instead, you get 43.75% pierce ratio, and you can check that because you still get a lot of damage from +physical bonuses (any physical damage in fact)
I would have taken the points out of finesse and put them in mastermind, as mastermind also buffs yourself too, which is very useful. Also, dream image when maxed is very useful to take hassle away from yourself and give a lot more damage :).
As far as I know, the pierсe ratio is added multiplicatively, not additively. Thus, if the weapon has 25% and the conversion is 50%, for example, then the total will not be 75%, but only 25+25*0.5=37.5%.
I finished normal with just hunting masteryand I'm sure it scales well into Legendary, but it's just boring. I hoped there would be some cool abilities not just more powerful basic attacks. I think I'll try caster next, but without Recharge gear they're not that fun either unless I build one of those fan strike spam builds which is fancy way of doing basic attacks.
ur hood got 27 dex and 188 energy from upgrade very cool build good luck man :) maybe for amulet u can switch to torch of ancestor/mymordon pendant which u can use another apollos will instead of band of souls for better dps
I cant farm trackers set i farm hydra 50 times per day i get good drops but no trackers Ps i play original tq on steam no imortal throne only original installed
i have same gear only gloves not cus they are hard to get by gorgons dont want to give them up haha but i dont have same resistance as you my lightning is only at 4% poison at -41% and my life is at 4.2k
hello thank you for your builds for now I am playing your build on templar and is fun. I am wondering is this the bes dps/survival bow build or i can choose other mastery beside dream. I have dream with my templar. How is avenger or something else, I have only AE no dlc
i did play GW2 back in like 2012 - 2013 i think, but I dont remember being a part of any guilds when I did. Typically in MMORPGs I make my own guild, and keep to myself. I did lead a bunch of WvW events in Gw2 though as that's mostly all I did
@@AlmarWinfield maybe that's where i saw your name then if you happened to have the same name or similar. [qc] was a zerg busting/havok WvW guild on Jade Quarry i was in when i was playing, around the same timeframe i believe so i might have just seen you around
