Two things I think are absolutely amazing about Titan quest, that I haven't seen any other games do (since literally 2006 i guess) is 1: the loot doesnt drop in an interface or a bag, the loot comes directly from the opponent you fought for it (or chests), it is entirely possible to run through the map and visually see a mage with a legendary staff that has crazy casting speed modifiers, when fighting this enemy, the mage will also have those benefits and cast really fast. When you manage to kill it, the item will physically fall out of their hands, for you to pick up. Simple, realistic, fair and very satisfying. 2: the legendary gear in this game is so incredibly rare, but also so numbrous that its not super rare to run into "a legendary gearpiece" but it can be extremely rare to get an exact legendary off the droptable, this makes all the gear you get feel very unique, keeps it satisfying because you never know what you'll get, but you'll actually get things! (some items have droprates of 0.002% so you won't expect to get any of them, but you will get some of them beause there is tons of different ones that can drop)

You spam pots in PoE, GD, and D4 too though lol. It's kind of just how it is in the ARPG genre. I actually think D2 handled it best with healing over time so there was really no reason to spam pots unless you were just taking damage THAT fast (which if you were was a good indicator that you probably weren't ready for that area yet, or alternatively you just needed life tap/life leech), and being able to customize your pot belt to hold other types of potions and scrolls if you wanted it to.
@HareK0nnen
@HareK0nnen 3 месяца назад
There are ways to play without having to spam potions. A few masteries have heal spells, regen skills, and there is gear that combined can give you a really high life regen. My most recent playthrough was a Nature and Dream build and i very rarely had to buy potions from the shop. Only used them as an emergency measure to get out of a tight spot. The game is really versatile and quite complex but you have to know the machanics. So yeah, most ppl just starting out, won't probably have such a great time. But that's probably balanced out by discovering the world and being immersed in it, which is actually one of the game's strenghts.

There are tips that could have made the experience a little better. If you press W you can change between weapons. So if there are like 10 monsters right next to you, you can switch to a melee weapon for example. You can hold down shift while attacking and you won't move after you're done killing them, it's very useful actually. You also don't have to use the weapon specific to your class but if i am not wrong then that weapons gets a damage boost or something. I hope this helps at least a little :)

Also what is really nice about Titan Quest is that higher difficulties spawn specific Bosses as you mentioned. Like for example the swamp area in act 1, you can fight the Hydra on legendary difficulty if I am not mistaken. In a cave in act 2 you can fight the Manticore at epic or higher. Also the first playthrough through all difficulties is always the hardest since you don't have items in your stash that you found like on alt chars.

i also started with the idea of making a pyro but i always do battle mage. so i find it interesting he went pryo summoner and i can see where the struggle could be. but as a battle mage. the first few fire effects are great. add fire damage to my mace, add a fire buff for defense and attack then it felt right to move right into defense mastery. now my guy has extra armor, fire armor buff, a fire damage when hit. and my weapons do fire damage ontop of regular. i just hold the basic swing ability and chop down everything in one swing except for bosses and hogs. only in the first 2 hours of the game. so let see how this build holds much deeper down the line.

Tq is a very nostalgic game for me, used to play it a lot with my dad and brother,its not perfect but it can be fun especially with the freedom that it gives you when making a build, few arpgs allow you to mix a ranged hunter class with a defensive meele focused defense class for example and you can make that class however you like, may not be "meta" but its still fun.

Well, yeah, it should feel old. Game's damn near 20. Thing is though, OLD doesn't mean BAD...lol. I really hate this trend in gaming or even just in modern media recently of people equating old games = bad because "old/outdated" and new games = "good cause new". Is the original Super Mario bad because it's damn near 35 years old and we've made shinier, more engaging gameplay games? What about the original Zelda? Diablo 2? Runescape? Games being older and simpler or just clunkier because that was top tier design back in the day doesn't really make it bad...just...old. I realize too that people who only play older games ALSO are just as guilty of the inverse of "it's new, therefore it's bad". Both are wrong. Lol. Anyway, this was a bit of a ramble, I just hate the "old/outdated" argument.

as an aside, I feel a solution to the "monsters drop specific weapons" issue could be to guarantee drop their weapon + also have a normal loot drop table (as a game dev thing, not a player thing). Could be cool to kill an axe wielder and KNOW you'll get an axe, but also potentially get a staff too! Idk just something I thought of lol. A cool part about that tho is that you can target farm weapons if you know there are a lot of axe or sword wielders in specific zones.

I played this back in the day, although I never got to endgame. I'm not even sure if I completed the main campaign the first time, although I think I did? Anyway, it was my second game of this type after Diablo II. I remember liking it a little more than diablo II at the time, mostly for superficial reasons (I liked the ancient greek theme more than the dark gothic theme). I played a summoner, which is a combo of nature and earth masteries. Basically the most pet class build you can do. Game was pretty easy that way. One thing I do remember is my friend constantly complaining about having to buy potions, he was going through them like water. I'm glad we've moved away from health potions being something you have to buy a stockpile of in action games and constantly spam. I really like how they work in Diablo 4.
@SchwingyGaming
@SchwingyGaming Год назад
See that's funny, I played the exact same class, summoner, but didn't use any of the summons. I just went for the self-cast fire spells and the heals and some passives from nature. I probably should have given the golem a better chance, I tried him out only very briefly and found him to be underwhelming. I too am very glad that potions are no longer handled in this way these days.

Maybe my opinion of this game is very biased, because it's a game I remember very fondly from childhood... I remember playing a pirated copy of this game on my crappy PC which would crash when installing it, so I had to constantly keep a fan besides it and cool it while it installed. And when it was finished, I remember not sleeping many nights because of it. I think this game is a fantastic ARPG that will always be timeless. I think the class system is amazing and most modern RPG's cannot hold a candle to it, with the exception of Baldur's Gate. Personally I advise you always make a class that is proficient in some melee combat aswell. Going full caster is not great, especially at the start. It can be super fun to spam all sorts of spells constantly, but it's definitely more difficult. The amount of crazy item and class builds in combination with items and enchantments you can make on this game is incredible. You can micro manage the shit out of your build to get the best results if you are hardcore like that. This game thrives on being replayed, as it has a loot transfer system from character to character, so stacking up on loot is a must if you want to play other characters. Probably the best way also to play a full caster is to farm loot with a different character first and transferring it to your newly created caster so you have a head start. I wasn't that crazy into Diablo at the time, but I did like the concept. Titan Quest brought that concept with a theme I was a huge nerd about, which is antiquity and I instantly fell in love with. It simply made sense to me, to love this game. When I saw in 2018 that they released a new expansion for it, I was jumping up and down of happiness, so I bought it for the first time. The Ragnarok expansion was pretty cool with a lot of content and fit very well within the whole TQ package, although not perfect. Played through Atlantis aswell, which was interesting, definitely different than the other releases. I didn't play the last expansion, but I am planning to get the whole package and play it again. There will always be a time in my life where I want to replay this series, that's just how good this game was for me...

It doesn’t feel old at all. I only first played it a year ago, and it’s become my favorite arpg. It’s been the only game in the past decade where I literally can’t put it down, and suddenly it’s daylight. Most games these days I’m turning them off after an hour because they make me feel tired. Titan Quest 2 was just announced, but it’s not my the same dev. I believe this dev went on to make Grim Dawn which i still need to try. It sounded in the review you just didn’t like the mastery you chose. Realized you didn’t like it, but didn’t change it.. kinda odd that you never tried using another weapon since you can use all of them. You were probably getting hundreds of weapon upgrades, but you didn’t equip them. In summary there is nothing old about this game besides graphics I guess, the systems are as up to date and modern as anything on the market, and stands toe to toe with the best

Such a good videogame analysis ive ever seen, holistic as fck. Just finnising legendary for the first time (u need to slow the game speed or its just not playable) and actually gets challenging and dinamic. died same amount of times in legendary act 4 than in the rest of the game. you can also orient ur build into rlly different playstyles as u reach highend. i kinda feel that 3 difficulties are not rlly needed (1 for noobs and 1 for tryharding) but item scaling model requires it in some way. The only way i see this enjoyable is finnishing normal and half of the second one. u come back months later and continue it to get legendary. I got a pretty great time this way. the worst part is starting over again to try new masteries. it takes too much times to acquire interesting abilities and gear and gameplay feels too slow. Although i see myself playing again in couple of years and pretty surely will enjoy it as the first time. if ure interested in mithology, the experience improves considerably. Seems to me that the interaction with a lot of the game systems wasn't that deep and a lot of the critiques brought in the video are pretty shallow. ARPGs are designed to be fairly long experiences in most cases. In this subgenre you cant play 30-40 hours and really understand how all the mechanics and system actually work, you just get glimpses. Wouldn't call this a review but more like a first impression, since the game isn't designed to be played only once. Another issue is the choice to only review the base which which is actually old design from mid 2000s. The game goes frequently on sale as a bundle with the first 2 expansions which were developed a lot more recent and represent much better the current TQ experience. Otherwise production value and editing is good, script writing can be improved.

Hey there, thank you for the thorough review! I first played Titan Quest in 2006 and played a lot during 2006 - 2010 and again a little bit after AE released. I think you did a very good job of highlighting the pros and cons of this old gem. Some of the cons were no big issue back in the day, but are certainly now. Oh one thing, those are not the usual kind of mods in the steam workshop, but rather "bounce mods", meaning you start the bounce mod and then you will get back to the main screen and can choose your character and then just normally load into the game. However, there is a big downside to this: You can't use multiple bounce mods at the same time, because they''ll overwrite each other (actually there is a more complicated way with creating a new mod in the TQ Editor, but I never bothered with it). I'll definitely check out your future content and I'm very excited for Titan Quest 2. Cheers!

Thanks for the kind reply! And yes, they are bounce mods which do behave differently than what normal mods do, which took some getting used to. Still, they're pretty straightforward and there are different options to choose from of various combinations of mods baked into one, so you can sort of not have to mess around with the details if you'd rather not! Really cool! I'm also looking forward to Titan quest 2 now! I was not expecting it!

honestly to me Titan Quest and D2 are almost in similar tiers. what game you prefer probably depends on what style/world/setting you like more (and whats more nostalgic) i always liked mythology and classic, high fantasy more than the demons/angles hell setting of D2, so i still prefer TQ. D2's game mechanics are slightly more well rounded, but both games are equally outdated in QOL aspects. if PoE/Last Epoch wasnt a thing, i would play both of those games still to this day.

I honestly think the game was thematically better than Diablo 2, but Diablo 2's story was just way too good at the time. The setting for TQ, the graphics, and the story hold up. D2 was simply massive and sadly TQ didn't get as much love as it should've. The cinematics in TQ were on par with D2 imo if not better. The community was also amazing for TQ back when GameSpy was a thing. I remember playing with ACTUAL developers in the game, something I've never been able to do in any of the Diablo games. You know the devs love the game when they actively play it. I also remember the devs actively participating with the community and providing DIRECT feedback. That doesn't happen nowadays. I'm hoping with TQ2 announced some of that "magic" will be captured again. Especially with Diablo 4 being an absolute dogshit game, THQ has the potential to gain a MASSIVE following if they pull this off right.

The biggest grip I have with the game is how the acts are rather long to get through, it's a slug in Normal difficulty when you don't yet have the ability to wipe out packs of monsters quickly until you've reached later Acts (unless you play the dream Mastery). There is LOTS of content, but I wish the pacing was like Diablo 2 where you could easily clear all 5 acts of a difficulty under a few hours only. Here with Titan Quest, it takes me at least a few days, maybe up to a week just to reach the next difficulty. It does test your patience a bit just to be able to play on Legendary.
@SchwingyGaming
@SchwingyGaming Год назад
Yeah, it really took me a LONG time to get through the normal difficulty. Just the first act took me some 10 hours or so which I thought I must have been doing something wrong, until I looked it up and lo and behold that's pretty much just how it goes lol. Is the gameplay really that much faster on legendary?

Glad you did not continue your mage class on epic or legendary difficulty (I will get to that). As you've said, the game is beautiful and it's based on mythology, it has a very beautiful soundtrack, I don't think it's visuals are dated, because of the clean style and the lighting system that make the whole game believable. I've played both, the immortal throne when I was younger, and anniversary edition (ragnarok) few years ago, I did not notice that many QOL improvements, they have only packaged the game so that it's a single install, instead of installing the based game (up to zeus) and then slapping the immportal throne with it's 5 patches (one of which is fan made) so that you can play the game. The game is in abandoned state, in which from time to time they milk the leftover users with not tested, broken expansions that can lock your game from progressing further. There are also a lot of bugs in the game, enemies casting spells on you through walls, defeating bosses without even being close to them (commanding pets to go to the arena), soft-locking gates (if you're in a lobby with a person that if further in the story than you). Multiplayer works, but only with 2-3 people, having more will cause the whole game to lag and be unplayable, only the host can play normally, other people in the lobby are fighting with things on the map that do not exist. Cheaters are also way too common, if you see the russian flag, do not join the lobby, most people, even the ones that are not with a russian flag, are cheaters, some even join games with low level players in order to kill them (spirit has such skill that drains health but boost mana for the whole party, when maxed if you're level 5 you die in 2 seconds). Crafting high level formulas is very tedious and people wearing them have probably cheated, high level formulas depend on artifacts, so in order to craft them, you have to craft 2 others, and to craft those... you get the point, you will probably have to create 10 artifacts and collect the needed charms, which are not specified in the game, and must be referred to by a guide. Masteries are heavily skewed toward melee, even if you play as a mage, you will be in range so short, that enemies will hit you, the most overpowered classes are nature and warfare, combining warfare with defense is the meant way to play the game, using the wolves in the nature mastery is the easy way to play the game, there was also a class that had spinning needle traps, as a side skill, but this skill is also very overpowered and you can go through the 3 difficulties by just spending your points on this skill without farming or griding. Equipment is balanced... for melee and archers, for mages it's definetely not, their skills are so powerless and with high cooldowns, that only the storm mastery I would consider good, but still, kiting is mandatory for all masteries. The best equipment in not the one in the highest level (for body and head armor it is), but regular yellow items and monster infrequents can be much more powerful and suited towards your build. The damage enemies deal is unidentifiable, and you cannot be sure where to put your resistances in, speaking of which, there are around 10 different resistance stats that you have to consider, although you can't be sure what damage the enemies exactly deal, with a few other mechanics such as dodging or blocking, dodging is dream mastery focused, blocking is defense master focused, getting those through items it not worth it, it's much easier if the items only compliment the default skills from those masteries, and yes, ranged builds are missing both. Mid game you will hit a plateau where monsters will be damage sponges and you will have a boss battle length fights with a pack of normal enemies, which gets demotivating very quickly. End game consists of you griding on lower difficulties in order to gain levels (because the game punishes you for being on legendary and reduces the XP gain), and because of the added expansions you will have so many free skill points that even at the end of epic your build will be maxxed out. But as you've said, it's all the same, there ins't anything more special on higher difficulties.
@SchwingyGaming
@SchwingyGaming Год назад
Sheesh, sounds like the game is probably only worth one playthrough for most people then, if even that. I'm also disappointed to hear that multiplayer lags that much in bigger groups. That really sucks.
@user-dc9zo7ek5j
@user-dc9zo7ek5j Год назад
@@SchwingyGaming Well I noticed the game got very boring after maxxing out 3-4 builds and I did not want to start a new character, going around normal enemies is also quite boring, because you aren't exactly sure what item will drop and what attributes it can have, so most runs consist of saving from specific fountain and running some route after which you quit and rejoin the game, bosses on the other hand, drop expected loot, and will not contain any surpises, at least not ones suited for your build specifically (except some powerful head and body armors). You are correct, the game is interesting within normal difficulty, in which you can play freely and experiment, without considering the crafting, equipment and mastery flaws that I've mentioned above OR with the monster multiplier mods (3X, XMAX) which make the game more interesting.

@@user-dc9zo7ek5j ok, i just read my own, way to long comment, on a comment and i come off as someone who just wants to put others and their opinion down. so i write something kind here at the start: its really nice to see people (like you) putting effort into explaining random strangers on youtube some details about a game that you are passionate about or at least deem worthy enough to give an inside of your perspective of the game for new players!!! And maybe all of what you said is true, for you. because of vastly different playstyles or something. i dont know so: lol ... almost half of your original comment is simply not true. just to give some examples 1: "as a mage, you will be in range so short, that enemies will hit you" thats only true for ranged enemies, wich should be an obvious. its totally possible to kite meele mobs (dont know on 3 times speed, never tried that)... he literally mention AND showed that in the video (and he managed that as a casual player at his first playthrou...so not that hard) 2 :"Mid game you will hit a plateau where monsters will be damage sponges and you will have a boss battle length fights with a pack of normal enemies, which gets demotivating very quickly" its the exact opposite (maybe could have something to do with your builds....or mine)... but i completed the mainstory like 20 times (back in the days that is) and the epic difficulty was always the fastest to clear (WITHOUT even A SINGLE exception) cause its not really hard but you got plenty of skills from the get go (plus some other reasons). 3. :"for mages it's definetely not, their skills are so powerless and with high cooldowns, that only the storm mastery I would consider good" now thats just untrue... either you couldnt figure out how to build mages in the game or you just never tried. Maybe you didnt time cooldowns from both classes correct!? i swiped trough the game (legendary 3 times spawn mod) multiple times mith DIFFERENT mage builds (yes even magesbuilds without storm...but you are right in that strom is one of the strongest but i would say its just a bit over powerd and not that others are underdelivering) and that is just to name a few and there is more stuff wrong in your comment. as i said, more than half of what you said is reasonable, tho! one last thing i found funny 4:"Well I noticed the game got very boring after maxxing out 3-4 builds and I did not want to start a new character" MAXING out ONE character in titan quest is like 85-250 hours (depending on expectations of what "maxing out" is, speed of the individual player, drop luck, etc) so if you have MAXED OUT 3-4 builds, you actually got a shit ton of game and fun for your money!! except you use only online guides (how to best, how to strongest, how to fastest, how to not think by myself, etc) and cheaty mods that help with exp, loot, overall speed of the game (i never sped up the time, so that could help a lot, i guess), nerfing enemies, buffing classes, etc.!!! theres no hate here. just a fanboy with a totally different perspective on some parts of the game, that you´ve mentioned. wish you peace, love and fun for the future ;)

@@isdochegal3576 Amazed someone else had a different view on the game, especially for mages. My experience with mages is playing without mods, there aren't that many monsters and a lot of them were spread out over an area, which for mages what not a good thing because this meant that you can target at max 2 enemies and kite the others until the cooldown is finished. This kiting gets boring very quick, and the range of your characters is not that great to defend yourself, also you don't have enough movement speed, while some enemies do, like reptiles, tigers, making kiting impossible. All builds in TQ are forced to be more or less in a melee range and to take damage. About maxing, I consider maxing out a character which has both trees up and has finished all the quests/side quests and one of the best gears. Even geared up (transfer high level items to them), I did not succeed with builds that are using intellect. I've played anniversary edition for around 2 years, and I've hard around 9 builds, with most being stuck in the last act of epic difficulty, and ranged/melee based builds making it out of there. I was not talking about the game being impossible, but about the game being biased towards those types of builds and annoying and slow for the mages. Casting spells outside the edges of your screen and kiting is not what I consider fun.

@@user-dc9zo7ek5j 1 :"there aren't that many monsters and a lot of them were spread out over an area, which for mages what not a good thing because this meant that you can target at max 2 enemies and kite the others until the cooldown is finished" wtf... thats contradicting in itself. how can there BE only 2 enemies but u still have to somehow kite someone AFTER you killed the two (only mobs around)???? and if u mean that only 2 are standing close together and the rest are a bit more spread out, so that u can only hit the 2 with one spell then u dont have to pull agro from the others, so u dont have to kite anything. but if you dont want to kill them one by one just pull them together like in every other arpg/mmo/etc. that has ever been made an use your spells AFTER u did that plus i still dont see how your cooldowns are so high ( with a maxed out char, as u said) that you have to wait so long. in the time, needed to pull the next mobs, the cooldown is alomst rdy again (depending on where u farm of course) plus spread out monsters is NEVER a good thing for MEELE chars.. so i dont see how that would make a melee build better. 2 :"All builds in TQ are forced to be more or less in a melee range and to take damage" more or less in melee range (only for the fast ones): YES and take dmg. NO (of course u will take dmg while playing otherwise there would be no game there but u dont have to face tank everything) there are some mobs that are definitly faster than you (as u mentioned) but none of them are tanky. so u just throw stuff in front of u ( just smite them from above with storm or throw a wave throu them with dream. in the direction they are coming from e.g.) while still kiting. if your build is somewhat strong, all of them die before they can touch you (on epic and legendary) , most of the time (not always tho) BUT these fast ones are excaptions and thats not an argument for 90% of the enemies in the game!! 3 :"I consider maxing out a character which has both trees up and has finished all the quests/side quests and one of the best gears" if u add that u have to be max lvl (both trees up is kinda the same thing, now that i think about it) and the quests are done on legendary than we have the same opinion on that! 4 :"Even geared up (transfer high level items to them), I did not succeed with builds that are using intellect. I've played anniversary edition for around 2 years, and I've hard around 9 builds, with most being stuck in the last act of epic difficult" ok, that DEFINITLY is a you problem. and only that!!! its not just me but about 4 friends of mine have also mages in the game and also had no problem progressing towards the end of legendary, what so ever (WITHOUT trading gear that is) yes, all of them play arpg for about 20 years now and are good player but that doesnt mean u have to be crazy good to do that. i cleard all difficulties on my first mage build ever without a problem! BUT i have to mention that all this was on classic TQ with hades DLC not on anniversary edition (wich i also played but not my friends) i can just repead what i said in the last commet "either you couldnt figure out how to build mages in the game or you just never tried" i guess u tried, so only the first part applies to you. 5 :"kiting is not what I consider fun" that would mean that range/mage classes in generell (in most games that have a similar genre) are just not what u like to play. and thats totally fine but dont blame it on the game! u have to kite in those typ of games for 30 years now ^^ if thats something u dont like, then i guess u didnt do it a lot and THAT would explain how you never beat epic with a mage (on top of a "not optimal" build) . 6 :" the game being biased towards those types of builds and annoying and slow for the mages" XDXDXD i always thought about it the other way around. melees beeing so slow in clearing mobs in comparison (on epic and legendary) was the reason i started to mainly play mages in the game (of course i still tried other stuff) i dont know man. are we rly talking about the same game?XDXD its funny. im starting to get curious about how you build your chars. sounds like i could learn something from you, regarding melee builds and you could learn some from me regarding mages ^^

I actually really love how slow TQ is compared to other ARPG I find fast gameplay rather boring because there is no time to actually immerse into the setting, world, surroundings your currently in. I also think the graphics are better than most new games but I have that opinion with most older games simply because when a game looks really realistic you (or at least I) notice odd looking objects, textures or effects a lot more then in a game where the graphics just look older all round so I personally can get a lot more immersed into the game. lol

You wanna be summoner with small army of pets - you can, every build is viable. You cant say the same with D3 or D4. Weapon enchantments? you can turn shitty weapon into some amazing and powerful weapons what fit your build. Quests? some quests give perma boost or skill point or attribute point,what YOU can spend whereevr YOU want. Graphics are humongously unimportant in Hack'n'Slashs, and I have long had the feeling that newer ones have nothing more than the older ones in regards to gameplay besides the faux longevity, keeping the player playing the same character for senseless grinding in post game. Bad idea. It felt so clunky, tedious and obsolete in so many ways compared to its much superior successor that I actually requested a refund for TQ after only playing it for a couple hours. So I agree, TQ might have been good when it came out, but if you think about playing it today, don't bother and jump straight to GD - which is similar yet SO MUCH BETTER in literally every aspect. That's laughable, man... the gameplay puts Diablo 3 and 4 to shame, what are you talking about? I don't blame you though, you clearly don't understand these Diablo types of ARPG on a deeper level... and by that i mean, you have no idea what makes such games good. If you call a game boring, or unexciting gameplay wise, just because you're not allowed to be a demigod from the first second, and you actually have restrictions and face challenges on low levels, then i suggest go play something like f'n Zelda or something. Games like Titan Quest are all about going from zero to a demigod in a gradual and rewarding process. That cooldown you're complaining so much about, can be reduced by 80% in the later difficulties, if you're lucky enough to find the appropriate gear... which is not going to happen if you're impatient, and you're expecting to destroy everything on a single run. And the more patient you are, the more rewarding the experience becomes when you finally reach that point, where your character feels accomplished. I'm oversimplifying it for you, but that's basically the idea behind these games. They're not for everyone, that's for sure, and TQ specifically is clearly not for you. The gameplay is amazing, you just don't understand it. It's enough for me to see that you're complaining of not getting enough staff weapons to know that you're pretty clueless. Act 1 of the game can drop a fire staff (Staff of the Magi is what it's called) for your character that is strong enough to carry you all the way to act 3 and can be farmed in 20-30 minutes if you do a simple google search of where you should look for it. Also, don't forget that you're not relying only on enemies to drop staves, they can be found in lootables, regular chests and boss chest. And you seem to forget that there are vendors in the game, and these traders can sell you staves that are almost as good, or sometimes way better than the ones that drop on the battlefield. They go up to green rarity and can be upgraded with relics and charms to make them even more powerful. But why should you pay attention to the vendors, right? Let's instead bash the gameplay in a youtube video...

He also completely misunderstood the item system. The enemies not only drop the weapon or armor type they cary, what you get is what they used in the fight against you, meaning, a bow wielding enemy can spawn with a regural (white), magic (yellow), rare (green), epic (blue) and in later difficulties even legendary (purple) bows. It's one of the coolest systems in the ARPG genre because you can actually see a monster or a boss wielding a recognizible unique epic or legendary weapon, and you know that when you kill him, you'll be getting that weapon for yourself. And that goes for armors as well not just weapons. You can see skeletons, cenaurs and other monster types, rocking cool looking unique helmets body armors and shields. All in all, It's still a randmized system, but instead the random drop being determined when you kill the enemy, instead it's determined the moment the enemy spawns when you load the game or enter a new unexplored area. Furthermore, the lootables are completely random, so when you kill a boss, you get to roll the dice on these juicy majestic boss chests... not to mention the hundreds of other majestic chests that randomly spawn all over the game world. I haven't even touched upon Monster Infrequent items, they add a whole new layer of depth to the itemization.

Now why would I as a new player coming in, know to do a google search for the fire magi staff? I absolutely would not, and it's silly to me to think that a new player should be looking up tips and tricks that early on. I was trying to bring a new player's perspective to the game so that other people like myself who have enjoyed other Arpgs in the past can see what the game is like. Sure, 30-40 hours isn't representative of the entire experience. Absolutely. But that was enough for me to know that it wasn't for me while still feeling like I did give it a solid chance. And like I said, it wasn't all bad. Definitely not. As far as the fact that staves can drop from chests and you can buy them from vendors: duh. I know that and did look at vendors frequently whenever I encountered one or went back to town. I didn't think it was important to bring it up because ALL of the other weapons and item types can also drop from those chests and can be bought at vendors so they are still less common relative to others. That was the point I was trying to make. You seem like someone who has played the game a lot and has a deep respect for it and I respect that. It's cool that you like the game as much as you do. I think I was being pretty fair to the game in this video, because everything I mentioned was my experience with it. I also thought I made it pretty clear that "hey, maybe it becomes way more fun in epic and legendary difficulties, I wouldn't know from experience though". Keep enjoying Titan quest man. It's a cool game for people that are really into a long progression grind, I'm sorry if my video offended you somehow. Enjoy your day.

@@SchwingyGaming Yes, you are right, everything you mentioned is your own experience with the game, but the problem here is, you're blaming everything on the game and nothing on your own mistakes. To answer your questions... You should know to google the staff, (or more like this "useful starting weapons for Earth Mastery in TQ) because this is not your first ARPG of this type, judging by how you comparing Titan Quest to other Diablo clones, even moderns ones. And since this is not your first Daiblo clone game, then you should be well aware that learning some basics before starting to build your first class is an absolute must in such games... unless you want to end up with a weak build that is unable to carry you through the game, or make your gameplay less enjoyable. Like i said, this Diablo clone subgenre is not for everyone, it's a lot of trial and error and a lot of patience is required. Everyone starts their first ARPG blind, and sooner or later, they regret it, and realize they have to learn some basics and tips before giving it another shot. Lucky for you, it's 2023, and there is information everywhere that could have helped you appreciate the game for what it is. And by that i don't mean to just copy someone else build, i mean learning just enough to feel confident in making your own build and having a progression plan for it (having a plan is fun), which is a must in this game, and not only this one... same goes for Diablo 2 if you're planning on playing on higher difficulties beyond the normal campaign, you just can't go blind, you will fail eventually. Like i said, you can't make the excuse of being a new player, because even if you've never played TQ before, you've definitely played more than a few games of the same type, so you should know better. You might not like the idea of having to familiarize yourself with a class/build before you start playing it, and that will be fine, you're free to have that preference... but like i said, this is exactly the reason why Titan Quest is not for you, and why you don't understand it, you just refused to understand it, and came to the conclusion that the gameplay is bad. But okay, i'll give you this one - let's say having to google the Magi Staff is a bit of a stretch. You should have put two and two together and search the vendors constantly... like all the time, not just on the occasional stop in town. And not the blacksmith vendor, but the magic vendor and not just in the early towns, but in every new location you arrive in, because the higher you progress through the game, you discover higher level vendors that sell stronger loot than the earlier ones. That change is more noticeable when switching acts. Vendors in Act 2 sell much better weapons than vendors in act 1. Sure, it might be rare to find that godly green fire staff with extra attack speed, but believe me, they can spawn at the vendors if you're patient enough. And if you don't get it... well you're a caster after all, right? You didn't like the cooldown of the spell you chose at the beginning? Why didn't you respec the points from it and try a different skill? Volcanic Orb is a great starting skill for leveling. Much shorter cooldown and great damage in an area of effect.... just max it up right away and you'll quickly forget the need to use a staff for a while. It will eventually get weaker, so then you just respec the points again, but this time you'll be at higher level, and you'll be able to experiment with top tier spells and abilities. What about your second mastery? Could te answer to your struggles be there? Why not experiment with few kills there as well, to see what works for you? One thing that is great here is the endless skill point respecs, so you can experiment with every skill until you find your style, your class, your build.... get the most powerful fire spells, and look at the vendors or from monsters drops for equipment with increased elemental/fire/burn damages, cooldown reduction and faster casting speed.... while also trying to maintain your resistances at a decent percentage. Also, items with +skills are great if you come across them. For attributes, you dump everything in Intelligence maybe with a few points in dexterity, since some caster equipment has low dex requirements... and you can even invest some additional attribute points in health if you feel like it. But honestly, that's pretty basic stuff that doesn't require reading guides... the build logic i'm describing here, applies to games like Diablo 2/Sacred/Torchlight 1&2, Path of Exile. It's basic stuff that you should be aware of, since, once again, this is not your first game of this type, right? Sorry for the long posts, but i like discussions like this. Yes, i like the game a lot (not as much as Diablo 2 but...), but my goal here is not to try to convince you to like Titan Quest, i'm just trying to explain why i think you were unfair in your judgement of the game.

@@Soulfly415 man thanks for the reply, I appreciate the critique. Maybe I wasn't fair enough to the game and should have looked up a build or synergies ahead of time. I could've done that and you're right that I do do that for other games like PoE for example. I totally take responsibility for my character being weak. I knew it was my fault, I could have looked things up and had an easier time, but for the sake of the video, I wanted to go in blind so to speak. Anyways, for what it's worth, I find the gameplay of d4 and d3 very shallow so far lol. Agree with you on that!

You forgot to mention how end game is horribly done. Bosses have insane table item drop pool. Which means you need to kill them insane amount of times to even get a chance for the item you want to drop or even for your class. Then kill them some more to get perfect loot. This ruins every reason to build a character the way you want to , to the fullest extend so it forces you to go modding and cheating.
@SchwingyGaming
@SchwingyGaming Год назад
Yeah that's probably pretty accurate. I haven't messed around in the real endgame at all so I didn't know with 100% certainty. Then again, some people actually probably like that items are that hard to get.

diablo is a total fuked up game, titan quest is also near fuked up game, the move button and attack button are the SAME, there is no freaking way i will ever click everytime when not sure attacking or going to ruin my fingers and shoulders. what is wrong with the titan quest's looting, there is one loot chest for about every 5 mobs, and it delays opening much less manually picking up. you got thousands of these to open up.
