TITANIC - PART 2 (1997) FIRST TIME WATCHING - MOVIE REACTION! EPIC!

Welcome to our first time watching Titanic (1999). This is Part 2 due to length of film.
After being pulled in emotionally in the first half of the film, this second half really delivers. We care about Jack and Rose and as an audience we are totally engaged with their struggle. Written and Directed by James Cameron, Produced by John Landau, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane, Kathy Bates and Bernard Hill. Shortly after filming this reaction, it made the news that the great Bernard Hill sadly passed away, so we wish his family well. We compliment his excellent performance in this.
If you haven't watched Part 1, please check that out as well, as this is where the story is carefully crafted to set-up Rose and Jack. We thought the story, filmmaking and emotions are on an epic scale. Hope you enjoy our reactions, commentary and discussion as we watch it for the first time from two different generations (admittedly one of us 25 years ago). We both found it a rich and complex and is truly justified as a great film.

We hope you enjoy this Reaction Video. This second part came as a huge emotional whack to us that didn't really settle until the credits. There's a reason why this film is considered so great, part writing, part directing and part in the performances. It's truly an excellent piece of work. Please check out Part 1 if you havent already, as the development of the love story is very disarming. Thanks for watching and special mention to Bernard Hill who died whilst we were editing this. (July Edit: RIP Jon Landau)

 _ @GenerationMediaReaction _Hope you's are both OK you sat at the end and didn't budge from the seat which is brave, you never seen it before so its a bigger impact on you which effected me seeing how you reacted I did too, as its something you have not seen, a mixture of true story and a relationship around the story of Rose and Jack is how it was made. I seen it in the cinema and I think everybody was in tears and faces all down hiding it. Mother tucks kids in bed to read a story and they do not even know whats happening around them is awful. There are other forms of the movies but you got to see the best one. Anyways hope your alright, if there is one thing your school wanted everyone to do is write an essay in school. I would recommend Titanic. But I look forward to your next reaction I recommended Star Trek (2009). Have an amazing weekend and give my best to your dad. Last thing, If you ever visit Northern Ireland the ship yard where the large Titanic was build is something you need to see even a reaction being their in a museum that you's got to see and buy a bit of history. Hope yous dont mind I share the link if its something you want to see from the ship yard._ www.titanicbelfast.com/

Everyone is saying how amazing the son is, so empathetic and mature. True. But how about the amazing parenting. THIS is how you parent. Blown away by the father's role-modeling. Choosing thoughtful films, allowing deep discussion, CRYING in front of his son and not apologising for it. Not shaming the son for crying. Just being there WITH his son, and holding space, allowing the son to talk and process his thoughts and emotions. I cant wait to watch along with more films.

I met the son of Frank Goldsmith, who was on the Titanic. He was the same age as your son, a third-class boy making friends and getting into mischief. His father's last words were, "So long, Frankie." Frank described live in Detroit, Michigan next to the baseball stadium. He said that every time the home team would score, it sounded like the screams of the crowd left in the water. He said the scary part was when those screams went silent.

Also hits different when you realise that 12 year olds were counted as "men" back then- there's several accounts of them not being allowed onto lifeboats for this reason, which is so sad. Really the best chance you had as a man was being on the starboard side where Murdoch was in charge, since he is known to have allowed men in where no women were willing/available to board boats (and he didn't need the incentive of money to do so, either, he was just a compassionate, practical guy)

"Three years, I've thought about nothing but Titanic. But I never let it in." What he was saying was that for the last three years, he's thought about the Titanic as only a treasure-salvaging operation. It took a survivor from the sinking to hell him the human side of the story - the heroism, the cowardice, the horror - of what happened that night.

We interpreted this as this, but also something more. I think this is James Cameron's 'voice'
@Chris-vk2zw
@Chris-vk2zw 4 месяца назад
@GenerationMediaReaction We know this was written by James Cameron, and he made this movie just so he could have the opportunity to dive to Titanic. From Cameron's words, when he needed a budget increase, the studio denied him. As a way to negotiate, he sacrificed his earnings, payout, and royalties for the movie that he wrote and directed, just to keep the project going. It was a labor of love. Bill Paxton and Lewis Abernathy, the two men in the submersible, who were also good friends of Cameron, actually dived to Titanic with Cameron. It was life imitating art. So all that said, Titanic meant more than making a movie.

Cal and Rose’ mother weren’t in the ‘afterlife’ scene because they didnt perish on the ship. Everyone that was there were the ones that went down with it. Depending on your belief system, the soul isnt a single entity. When Rose died on the waters above the wreckage, ‘part’ of her soul returned to titanic to be with jack. thats what that scene was symbolising. Great reaction btw, you should check out Jim Cameron’s documentary about titanic. He mentions in that, that he made this movie to fund his expedition to titanic, he didn’t expect it to be so big!

The steerage passengers weren't actually locked below deck as portrayed. They were kept from going up to first-class areas at first because the crew didn't understand how serious the situation was, but they didn't lock them up and leave them there. A lot of passengers didn't understand English and didn't know where to go to evacuate.

I feel like a lot of times adults underestimate children’s ability to understand certain things that may be difficult or complicated and so we never speak to them about it or explain it in any way, but that can actually be very hurtful because then when they’re exposed to something difficult or complicated it hits as a complete surprise and they’re completely unprepared to deal with it without any help or guidance. But you do the opposite here, and I think it’s really great how open you are with him

The first time I watched Titanic, I was in a state of shock and was very quiet for hours afterwards. Then I did a lot of research on the actual sinking and became obsessed with it for a while. The second time I watched Titanic, which was about three years later, I sobbed my way through the last hour and a half of the movie. The only other movie I’ve ever seen that affected me like that was Schindler’s list. The suffering of our brothers and sisters, all God’s children, is heart wrenching. The loss of life and how it all happened so quickly… No matter how many times this level of destruction occurs in our world, it’s devastating and it shocks us awake. May the souls aboard Titanic rest in peace with our Lord forever. This is an example of the positive impact that movie magic can have on our lives. 💙💙🙏🏻🙏🏻💙💙

James Cameron did extensive research on Titanic, many of the scenes that go on in the background or side stories really happened and are based on actual testimony in the inquiries that happened right after the tragedy. At the end when Rose is hanging on to the ship as it starts to go go under, she looks over and makes eye contact with a man in all white. That is based on the real testimony of a Chef who survived by being in that exact spot as the ship went down

Loved your reaction, so beautiful and honest. I saw this the first time on VHS in 1998 when I was 7, stuck with me ever since. Cal and Ruth weren't there at the end because they didn't die on the ship. It is one of the most beautiful endings in cinema history ❤

On RU-vid there is a full demo walkthrough of Titanic rendered so realistically, shot in daylight. Some amazing person rendered it. It’s eye opening to see how vast the ship actually was. It’s well worth a watch.

I can't tell you how much I love watching you both and how much I love that you don't avoid things that might make your child sad/scared/uncomfortable, but you TALK about how he's feeling and let him know that it's okay to feel that. I worry that kids raised without any experience with feeling negative emotions (certainly their parents mean well, who wants their child to be unhappy?) won't be able to handle the ups and downs of adult life- or be empathetic to the suffering of people from other walks of life, with whom we share our world. You are raising a really kind, thoughtful (and very funny) human, dad!

The 3 years was his searching for Titanic & the diamond. Never letting it sink in was about the tremendous tragedy of the all the people that died. Rose kept her promise & died an old lady warm in her bed. (she died, on the ship, after throwing the diamond in...) The people, passengers & crew, at the end were those who died that night & were welcoming Rose back (to Jack) "DAWSON" was Jack's last name...she took it as her own. The hand sketching Rose was actually James Cameron.

One of the great things about the Titanic film was that James Cameron did everything to replicate the ship. In terms of sets and the entire sinking process. Speaking about the 1st class grand staircase, he built it full scale and sunk it into a deep tank. So that entire scene was with real extras and water. Great reaction 👏

@@GenerationMediaReaction, you are welcome. Do check out the behind the scenes documentaries. It's a cool insider. James Cameron literally used original photographs and blueprints to build his sets. Even the carpets were made by the same company that made the actual carpets on the real Titanic.

In the dome implosion scene, many of the extras were in actual fear of their lives, despite there being safety divers. Eric Braeden, who played John Jacob Astor, actually survived the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff when he was a child (9000 people died) The terror on his face is 100% real

I have liked your video and subscribed to your channel because of your great reactions , especially in the heartbreaking end scenes where roses loses jack e.t.c. Just so you know There is nothing wrong with showing your emotions. Its ok to cry so please don't ever feel embarrassed or anything. You have a really great kid and it seems to me that you and your wife are great parents , bringing your son up in the right mature way, so credit and respect to your son, you as a father and your wife. Please remember , its ok to cry / show emotions , especially when reacting to movies like The titanic e.t.c. that tells me you both have real hearts of gold.

I vividly remember watching TITANIC for the first time when it first Premiered on BBC tv in 2001 (i wasn't old enough for the cinema release in 97) its a hard watch as a 10,11,12 year old kid because there's so much to unpack in that last hour of the film what gets me is Jacks courage Rose's Mother and Cal thought so little of him because of the class structure but that willingness to stay with Rose as long as he could with no thoughts of his own suffering and mark you not a word of complaint once he realises he's going to die there's definitely something for us to aspire to in Jack's characteristics

I get how it's hitting him so hard. I remember seeing this the first time when it came out and having it hit me so hard that I was watching what really happened to these people. It was heartbreaking. There is a Titanic Experience here in Orlando, FL where I live and when you first arrive, you get a random ticket. Tickets from actual passengers from the Titanic. At the end of the tour, you find out if your passenger lived or died. That was hard. But even harder was when the tour guide took our homeschool group and separated us in groups of women and children and men. I have three girls, but I had to look across at young men from our homeschool group that would have not made it. That really, really got me. It's a wonderful attraction.

This was likely the best movie reaction I've seen yet. Beautiful father and son bond. I had a good relationship with my own dad, but I always longed for a relationship with my dad that was like yours with your son. What a beautiful, empathetic, old soul he is. I had a deep relationship with my son (my only child) like that, but unfortunately I lost him to suicide almost 3 years ago, he was only 21. I lost my father almost 2 years ago. I hope your beautiful bond remains so. I never cried during this movie until you guys did. I lost it completely. On a different note, I have a suggestion for a movie that the pair of you might really like: 'The Children of Huang Shi'. It's a British film, based on the true story of George Hogg and his reluctant contribution to a group of orphaned Chinese boys during the Japanese invasion of China during WWII. God Bless both of you and keep up the brilliant work!

I am not sure if it was mentioned in the full reaction, but the reason why Captain Smith stays behind on the ship is because of the unwritten rule "The captain goes down with the ship" - a sea captain holds the ultimate responsibility for both the ship and everyone embarked on it, and in an emergency they will devote their time to save those on board or die trying. Although often connected to the sinking of RMS Titanic in 1912 and its captain, Edward Smith, the tradition precedes Titanic by several years. I think that is also why Mr. Andrews (the creator of the ship) stays on the ship volunteraly and why it is perticulary bad that Mr. Ismay (the managing director of the White Star Line) hops on one of the boats to save himself instead.
