I'm working on a game called Titanic: Echoes From The Deep which lets you experience the story of Titanic like never before.
I decided to do a animation test of the stern sinking and imploding.

I actually discussed this on a youtube video about the Bismarck about ten years ago and according to all the replies oxygen actually rapidly turns toxic to humans from the extreme pressure but you won't even have time to die from that because the air pockets usually burst within sixty seconds of submersion, crushing anyone still inside and killing them instantly.
@clark82
@clark82 Год назад
its unlikely there was any air pockets..... when the front section sunk, it was completely full of water, while the back section was not, and that is pretty much why its in the worst shape, as it sank while there was air still in it and deeper it got, it suddenly exploded. If anyone was "lucky" enough to get into a air pocket, they would have been dead long before the ship hit the bottom, as deeper it went the air pressure would would have crushed them. Its believed that if there is any bodies still on the ship, they will be those of the engineers down in the engine rooms (as they were locked in when the doors were locked shut) and there is no way to get that deep into the ship at the moment (unofficial rule for explorations is as soon as anyone see's a body they have to stop recording straight away).

To calm any fears about surviving in an air pocket as the ship sank, survivors on the surface reported hearing the stern implode 10-20 seconds after disappearing under the waves. @paulwalker2988
@paulwalker2988 Год назад
@@coratopel1783 Well, what is worth understanding is that when water fills the ship the air tries to come out at the same rate as the cubic volume of the water entering. What you would experience is a rush of air, very strong as well. Where there was opportunity for rapid decompression like through an opening or porthole you would feel this whoosh of air,( perfectly visible in this video at the far stern section) in complete darkness, quickly replaced with water. Where pressure replacement was not possible IE deeper inside the ship, the pressure would just rise to an unbearable point. I'd better stop before I go into this rabbit hole but...... believing their death was painless and "pleasant" is just wishful thinking. It wasnt.
@slyhog007
@slyhog007 Год назад
@@paulwalker2988 I read this theory several years ago about the stern section actually superheating to something like 600° in the first few minutes of it’s decent because of the air still trapped in the stern and the speed and pressure building up. @@slyhog007 that’s not true because it imploded
@paulwalker2988
@paulwalker2988 Год назад
@@slyhog007 I sincerely believe that stern section didnt have few minutes. Let me explain. Stern section had approximately 300ish feet in length. If we consider that the sea water pressure increases by 64 lbs./ cu ft. for ever foot it sinks,almost as soon as the stern fully submerged any air left in it would be subject to 25.000lbs of pressure. I am not saying that Titanic imploded and I am not a fan of this theory. There was simply too little air left in it by the time she reached critical depth. That depth would be 2-3 lengths of the stern section. At 500 feet any air compressed to 25.000 lbs./ cu ft would rapidly find a way through the ship, or make its own way through it. Considering her probable sinking speed, she would reach this depth in less than 2 minutes before the cavitating air would burst its way out of her. Once again its a rabbit hole topic but I hope you understand what I meant.

I imagine at least most of everyone stuck inside the stern was already dead by the time it was completely submerged. Particularly after the ship had broken in half and the stern fell from its upright position back into the water. However, the pure chaos of what was going on inside of the ship when it is rushing down to the seabed as it’s being ripped to pieces from the implosion, it’s just something that I really wish there was more displays. Very well done, this is pure artwork. We only see in Titanic 1997 a short glimpse of the titanic going under the water as Jack trys to keep a hold of Rose during the suction from the ship. A century over we still feel for everyone who never made it that night.😢❤

Just found your channel! I can’t wait for the release of the game! It’s awesome! I have always wondered what the titanic looked like ash she was sinking and it what it looked like right after she hit the ocean floor! Also, I love the idea of a game that lets you explore the wreck! Good luck to you! Can’t wait to play!

Those sounds are unnerving to say the least. She suffered a horrific and painful death. A lot of the survivor's on the surface said there was a loud noise under the water as the stern finally sank

I always think of a bloodchilling event from 20000 leagues under the sea, where the nautilus crew comed by a recently sank ship during its plunge into the abyss. This video is the closest to that spook feeling verne pulled off in this passage

This is the frightening reality of it. Exactly how it happened in real life. No music and no Leonardo DiCaprio fluff. This image shows the cold hard facts and it's extremely chilling. I can't imagine how terrifying it was for those souls on board.
