Yes, absolutely reprehensible behaviour from the White Star Line - some worthless bloody jobsworth, no doubt responsible! Also, they harassed traumatised patients into signing a *$25* out of court settlement, so they wouldn't actually sue the company. I believe the documentary is called "Waking the Titanic", about a group of poor Irish people, the Adergoole 14.

The gates weren’t locked on passengers, when James Cameron went down with Jake and Elwood bots, they found that most of the gates were unlocked and this was a mistake in the movie. He mentioned this on one of this documentary’s.

According to Naval Captain and Titanic researcher and consultant to James Cameron, Parks Stephenson notes that binoculars would not have helped. Binoculars limit peripheral vision and are only used once an object is spotted to identify it. Since there was no moonlight and the iceberg and a flat calm sea, it would just be pitch black night. There was also a cold air mirage that shrouded the horizon line and objects at a certain distance in a blanket of black. The idea was that it was a clear night, visibility should have been optimal, but that's until they entered the Labrador current and visibility was skewed.

20 was actually 4 more boats than what was required by law for a ship that size at the time. Besides, boats weren't made to carry all passengers at sea while a ship sank. They were intended to ferry passengers from one sinking ship to a rescue ship and be reused.

As far as I know, people only died in collapsible A because it was half full of water because of how it was pulled partly under from being tied to the ship when the bow went underwater, and collapsible B because it was overturned and everyone on that boat had already been in the water before swimming to it, or being pulled out by the people on it.

Another fun fact: lifeboats were meant to be used as ferries for evacuation. The idea was, seeing how the shipping lanes were busy, another ship would be in the vicinity that would lower their boats and the two ships would ferry the passengers from an ailing ship. This is why the Board of Trade said 16 lifeboats were acceptable for a ship the size of Titanic and Titanic had 20. This idea worked perfectly in the past. What wasn't anticipated was a scenario where there wouldn't be a nearby ship and that passengers would be stranded waiting for a rescue ship.

When we used to go on holiday on a island in England on the boat we traveled on it had safety instructions that played on several screens over the hole boat and and announcer that announced it every so often on this announcement they told you where to get the life jackets for adults and children and what would happen if there was an emergency

As someone who has researched the titanic for nearly 30 years this person is either completely wrong with some of the facts or is leaving parts of the story out in order to fit their own opinion. Most of the things they are saying are either wrong or only half true.

There were actual more life boats than the regulations at the time legally required. The designer of the boat want more still but was forced to remove them for 2 reason 1 it was deemed to have more than the regulations required and 2 they took up space and the ship was said to be unsinkable and seeing all them lifeboats went against that view

The life boats back then were only meant to used as a ferry method, to ferry one group from one ship to another. There were 20 ships but they only had time to realise 18 so in fact they wouldn’t of had time to release them all. Since then the methods of releasing these ships have become a lot faster.

@@RB01.10no, it was that there were “ship lanes” like highway for ship and ships were close enough together that this normally would work. (It would have worked if the Californian did not turn their radio off)

Think about it, they were only able to properly launch 18 of the 20 boats! So realistically, it probably wouldn't have made much difference if they had more boats. Of the last 2 boats, one was capsized, and the other had water in it, and people died in it.

Bear in mind that the Californian herself was stuck in the middle of a ice field and it's debatable whether she could've done anything in time. Major historical inaccuracy here... The Californian *did not sail by*. As mentioned above, she was stuck in an ice field and stopped for the night. The Carpathia herself almost hit an iceberg in the rush to reach Titanic.

The lifeboats taking up deck space was not really the main reason for lack of lifeboats, the White star line decided they wanted just to meet the current regulations and titanic actually sailed with 2 extra lifeboats than required. And another thing many people don’t realise is they barely had enough time to launch the boat they had, titanic was actually going under with the last 2 lifeboat on the ship they floated off

Titanic wasn't even 2/3 of her maximum capacity on her first and only voyage. She carried 2,208 people (passengers and crew) on board, and she had a maximum capacity of around 3,500. The number could've been much lower if it had not been for the national coal strike. As the strike was winding down, there wasn't enough coal for every vessel. The White Star Line (Titanic's operator) transferred the coal, luggage, cargo, and passengers from their ships at Southampton to the brand-new Titanic. Regarding lifeboats, the regulations in effect at the time were based on the ship's cubic capacity, not on how many people it could carry. The regulations were enforced by the British Board of Trade. Titanic wasn't the only one that didn't have enough lifeboats; Carpathia, Lusitania, Olympic, Adriatic, Celtic, Cedric, Baltic, Californian, Mauretania, Mount Temple, etc, all had similar flaws. Legally speaking, Titanic had more lifeboats than the regulations dictated for ships of her size. Also, there were no original plans for Olympic and Titanic to have 48 boats; that claim was based on a misinterpretation of historical documentation. In the first place, the original designs for the ship had sixteen lifeboats to comply with the existing regulations. White Star and Harland & Wolff did anticipate the Board of Trade to make possible changes to increase the rules so much so they designed the brand new Welin Quadrant Lifeboat Davits that could accommodate more boats. Surprisingly, the BOT didn't. They likely decided to keep the existing regulations due to the lack of accidents in the past twenty years leading up to Titanic. Thirteen UK ships were lost through striking ice while on voyages between European ports and the east coast of the United States, Canada, and Newfoundland in the 20 years to 30 June 1911. There was no loss of life & only one ship was lost south of latitude 45. However shortsighted the lifeboat regulations may be, it was simply a standard practice based on previous knowledge and experience; the series of decisions was less evidence of unscrupulous disregard for passengers' safety than it was of the simple (yet unfortunate) nature of human complacency. In hindsight, it's evident that there were limitations in the regulatory framework of the time, and the Titanic disaster spurred a reevaluation of safety standards and a commitment to more stringent regulations to enhance passenger safety at sea. Before the Titanic disaster, successive presidents of the Board of Trade had depended on the assistant secretary in charge of its Marine Department for advice on marine safety. Since 1899, this post had been held by Sir Walter Howell, a career civil servant. When the Olympic-class ships were being designed, Sir Walter was advised on technical matters by Sir Alfred Chalmers, a very experienced master mariner, who was the Marine Department's professional advisor from 1877 to 1911. Sir Alfred summarized his views on lifeboats in Lord Mersey's court during the British Titanic Inquiry: "I considered the matter very closely from time to time. I first of all considered the record of the trade - that is to say, the record of casualties - and to see what immunity from loss there was. I found it was the safest mode of travel in the world, and I thought it was neither right nor the duty of a State Department to impose regulations upon that mode of travel as long as the record was a clean one. Secondly, I found that, as ships grew bigger, there were such improvements made in their construction that they were stronger and better ships, both from the point of view of watertight compartments and also absolute strength, and I considered that that was the road along which the shipowners were going to travel and that they should not be interfered with. I then went to the maximum that is down in the Table - sixteen boats and upwards, together with supplementary boats, and I considered from my experience that that was the maximum number that could be rapidly dealt with at sea and that could be safely housed without encumbering the vessel's decks unduly. In the next place, I considered the traffic was very safe on account of the routes - the definite routes being agreed upon by the different companies, which tended to lessen the risk of collision and to avoid ice and fog. Then, again, there was the question of wireless telegraphy, which had already come into force on board of these passenger ships. I was seized of the fact that in July 1901, the Lucania had been fitted with wireless telegraphy, and the Cunard Line, generally, fitted it during that year to all their ships. The Allan Line fitted it in 1902, and I am not sure that in 1904 it had not become quite general on the trans-Atlantic ships. That, of course, entered into my consideration as well. Then another point was the manning. It was quite evident to me that if you went on crowding the ship with boats, you would require a crew which were not required otherwise for the safe navigation of the ship or for the proper upkeep of the ship, but you are providing a crew which would be carried uselessly across the ocean, that never would be required to man the boats. Then the last point, and not the least, was this, that the voluntary action of the owners was carrying them beyond the requirements of our scale, and when voluntary action on the part of shipowners is doing that, I think that any State Department should hold its hand before it steps in to make a hard-and-fast scale for that particular type of shipping. I considered that scale fitted all sizes of ships that were then afloat, and I did not consider it necessary to increase it, and that was my advice to Sir Walter Howell."

Here's a fun fact: the Marconi wireless radio malfunctioned and was inoperable the day before the Titanic sank. Jack Phillips and Harold Bride, the two wireless operators employed by Marconi, knew that it was against company policy to try service a malfunctioning system themselves. Despite the risk of being disciplined, they worked tirelessly through the night to get it working again. They were were successful. Unfortunately, they were backlogged. The next night, after 11 PM, the Californian sent a warning saying they were stopped for ice. It came in so strong that it interrupted one of Phillips' messages with a loud signal. Phillips was furious and told the Californian to "shut up", that he was busy working Cape Race. The wireless operator of the Californian then shut off his system and it was never turned on again. So in one way, if the wireless system wasn't fixed, Titanic would have been lost in darkness without communication. In a second way, if Philips would have been more patient, the warning may have delegated to the crew on the bridge.

It's terrifying to think about. If they didn't fix the wireless radio, the lifeboats would have been pointless and all those people would just be stranded floating in the ocean until they all starved. Meanwhile, on the mainland, it would seem like the Titanic just vanished without a trace. Because in this scenario, Titanic could not call for help. No one knows they hit an iceberg, and Carpathia never responds to their distress signal and goes to their rescue....

The life boats were never supposed to be used (unsikable ship remember), they where there only for legal demands... in fact they removed some life boats so they can have extra space for the first class walk around on the top deck..

A LOT CHANGED in the Ocean Liner business BECAUSE Of the Titanic Tragedy. Now there are lifeboats for everyone on board. The shipping lanes don't go up North as high at the Titanic did, so they wouldn't be going through areas where Icebergs could be, etc.

Coming back to this after watching lots of videos from the channels Historic Travels and Oceanliner Designs, including ones correcting Brightside videos that are a lot like this one. The Californian did not just "sail by" the Titanic. It was completely stopped for the night in the middle of an ice field. It's debated how quickly it could have reached Titanic after starting up its boilers and carefully navigating the ice field. Probably a little earlier than Carpathia, and I still fault them for not waking the wireless operator to find out for sure what was happening, but they weren't freely sailing like this video says.

Technically, the Titanic DID have enough lifeboats according to standards and regulations. Lifeboats were originally meant to ferry passengers from a ship in distress to a nearby rescue ship or shore. Unfortunately, this obviously did not work out well for the Titanic, since it sank so quickly with no ship close enough to receive passengers in time. And there is no evidence that the gates were intentionally locked to keep the lower class passengers. This was done for the film to create drama. A lot of the gates were locked because they were always locked and they never got around to unlocking them in the urgency. But the third class passengers did have access to the upper decks.

Titanic Cat is right here. There are no lockable gates in passenger corridors, except ones for blocking crew only areas. The problem was that the women did not want to leave their areas. Ironically the men did want to, but we all know the command for women and children first. Also, the door leading to the grand staircase was in plain sight, but wasn't marked as such. Many just stayed in their place to await orders. One man led groups of steerage passengers to the boats, but only did so a few times as things got more difficult. Some just waited in the general room. Some waited on the stern. Some climbed the railings to the boat deck, but it wasn't easy. Some took the second-class stairs. It was just confusion or complacency.

While the story about the locked away binocculars is true, it is heavily debated if it would have served any use if they would have been available in the NIGHT of the accident. While binocculars are indeed of help spotting small objects in some distance, they also reduce the amount of light catching the eye. And the iceberg was not exactly a small object... When they spotted it, it was already huge in appearance... no need to make it any larger... They simply couldn't see it before, because of the dim moonlight resulting in a very low contrast between the iceberg and the water resp. horizon. And unlike ships, the drifting iceberg didn't make any disturbance of the waters surface, which would have made spotting it so much easier. Binocculars wouldn't have changed anything about that. If anything, they would have reduced the contrast even more and would have made the iceberg even harder to spot. Try yourself to use binocculars in the dead of night.. you'll see.. {nothing}

@@ric4397 The crow's nest is the box that the lookouts sit in in the forward mast. Titanic had a forward and aft mast. The poop refers to the stern or poop deck (stern). The front is the forecastle deck (bow).

As it was, they only had time to launch 18 of the 20 lifeboats. The last two were washed overboard in the final plunge. Having more boats to launch, i personally believe, would have just cost more time, and more lives

*lifeboats in those days were not supposed to carry the entire population of a ship in them for a total evacuation all at once. The mentality back then was that lifeboats were to be used as ferries from a damaged ship, to a rescue ship that would come alongside, so each lifeboat would go back and fourth a few times taking loads of passengers from the stricken ship, to the rescue ship. The sea lanes were so populated with ships passing by each other that if a ship became in distress and was sinking, it'd only be a matter of minutes before a rescue ship would be on the way to assist....in theory. Its debatable if SS Californian would have been able to rescue everyone even if they had gotten there in time, as the Californian was a tiny freighter that was already full of cargo. *The ship was also stuck in an ice field about 3 hours from Titanic, so even if they knew what was happening, its very long odds that they could have helped. *Additional lifeboats would have actually caused more deaths, as the loading of passengers would have been far slower, also there was no launching davits for additional boats anyway. *Titanic was never called unsinkable by White Star Line or Harland&Wolf. *A lifeboat drill was conducted in Belfast right before the initial trip to Southampton. *Lifeboats were being launch partially full because nobody thought the ship was sinking due to its very calm and even nature, and very few passengers were willing to get into a small wooden boat to be lowered into the black icy abyss from the warm, bright and safe-feeling Titanic. *Gates were never locked on the lower classes below decks, because there were no actual gates there in the first place, that's purely Hollywood, the only gates below decks were waist-high and were reported by survivors to have never been closed by the crew, the reality is that most 3rd class passengers were simply told to stay below decks until 1st and 2nd classes were aboard the lifeboats, and then 3rd can come up on deck and take the other boats upon the crews' command, and the passengers did as they were told, staying below until they noticed the ship was listing downward heavily and they began to panic and rush up on deck. *Binoculars were not standard kit for lookouts in 1912, as lookouts' jobs were to only spot objects on the horizon, not Identify them, that was the job of the bridge crew, binoculars would likely have just impaired the crews' vision as it takes away a huge amount of peripheral vision, in addition, the cold-air mirage effect and false-horizon effects would have made looking through binoculars at the horizon absolutely confusing with the stars mirroring on the water, the false horizon caused by the cold-air mirage and the very limited view caused by the binoculars, it would have been very disorienting, the naked eye was the best option for lookouts at night.

At the time they were not aware that they would need enough lifeboats for every passenger. At the time when a ship was sinking they would use lifeboats to ferry passengers from the sinking ship to the rescue ship. They only needed enough to keep people moving to the next ship just incase. They never thought no one would come to their rescue or that their ship would sink too fast. We now have enough because of Titanic. Also the locking of the gates was never proven.

The idea that the Californian could have saved everyone strikes me as very naive. I can imagine Captain Lord felt guilty. Doesn’t help he was dragged through the mud afterwards constantly and used as a scapegoat. I believe the reason there wasn’t enough was because lifeboats at the time were seen as away to ferry passengers from one ship to another in an emergency. Titanic actually had more then what was required but it still wasn’t enough. That and they are being launched half full. But I could be wrong. There could another reason there wasn’t enough lifeboats. I don’t believe it was over capacity limit though. Collapsable A and B were never even launched from the ship. Collapsable A was slowly sinking and Collapsable B straight up overturned (and trapped Harold Bride underneath it). Some people actually agreed to stayed behind. Like Isidor & Ida Straus or the people keeping the lights on throughout the night. Also: The shipbuilders never called it unsinkable. If anything it was the press who did that. The press did also stupidly state everyone was saved at first. I never heard anything about the first class passengers acting like that but then again I don’t know every person’s story or actions onboard but a lot of people died trying to save others. Honestly that video gets some things wrong or didn’t even include things to fit their narrative. More lifeboats wouldn’t have saved everyone onboard I don’t believe. The ship didn’t have enough time for 48 lifeboats, it didn’t even have enough time for 20.

Hi 🙋‍♀️ I really enjoyed this, my fave film if all time is titanic however when I was young I got into the history of it. On my honeymoon in Vegas I visted the exhibition of titanic. It was amazing, I mean you can feel ice like how could it would have been, you can see rooms of what upper class and lower deck was like...the famous staircase and have a picture. They even have a place where you can walk and it’s meant to be like side of ship at night of it all, stars and cold...before tragedy. Even though it’s amazing it’s very sad as you see a lot of belonging to people...clothes, shoes, hats, diaries, purses, dolls and more. Pictures of the victims but not all. It’s an great experience and highly recommend for anyone to go who likes titanic.

The lifeboat situation isn't nearly as bad as it seems or people make it out to be. Obviously it's a good thing ships now have enough capacity.. but as some people have pointed out already lifeboat capacity was based on gross tonnage at the time (with ships being as large at 10000 tonnes - of course Titanic was almost 46k tonnes). Based off her size she was required to carry 16 lifeboats. They actually added 4 extra collapsible boats and exceeded the max capacity. Several things to keep in mind as well.. there were always lots of ships travelling back and forth across the Atlantic at all times. It was widely accepted at the time that if any ship was in peril another ship would be close enough to take on the passengers and lifeboats were largely used to fairy passengers back and forth between the 2 ships. Another things is how quickly can you load lifeboats. On average at the time a lifeboat could be loaded to capacity and fully launched.. and then get the davits (the arms holding the lifeboats over the edge) back in place and connected to another lifeboat was 20-30 minutes.. then take in account panic and chaos aboard a sinking ship. The Lucitania sunk in under 20 minutes.. and many ships have sunk much faster than the 2 hrs 20 minutes that Titanic got.. So it doesn't matter how many boats you have if you can't launch them all. The last 2 lifeboats on Titanic BARELY got launched in time. In fact one got overturned and swept away when the front funnel fell. PLUS most ships tend to sink with a large list to port or starboard.. meaning at some point the lifeboats will be impossible to load on one side of the ship at some point during the sinking. The Costa Concordia most recently had this exact situation play out. So should we have enough lifeboats, YES of course.. but there are so many other things to take in account and I don't blame the owners.. that's just me anyway.

The closer ship to titanic saw the flairs and fireworks but they where firing them to early. I'm pretty sure your supposed to fire them the next 5 minutes and keep repeating. And they didn't add enough lifeboats because they thought the ship was invincible and since 1st class could go on boat deck they wanted to reduce the lifeboats to for better views for 1st class.

They do not know if it had time to turn anyways and for example if they would have hit head on they probably would have kept afloat and not sink. Bottom line is: When our lives it at end and we are meant to leave this world the destiny simply stack up all odds for that to happen . For example if they would have departure a day earlier they would not have hit the iceberg because it would not have been in the path of Titanic. Destiny is Destiny and no if or but"s can change that. May all souls rest in peace.

Encyclopedia Britannica has nothing to do with the Britannic ship other than a similarly based name. It has actually existed since the 1700s.

Titanic was actually far from booked. A lot of her staterooms remained empty during the voyage . There was the coal Strike just before so when it was lifted , in order to get titanic somewhat filled , other passengers from other ships were transferred to titanic . Pros and cons to this . If you were booked as a 1st class passenger on another liner, you were downgraded to a second class passenger on titanic , but the accommodations would be much more superior. It was downgrade in name only . Also , titanic could carry well over 4,000 passengers and crew . She Carried 2,200 on her maiden voyager . The queen Mary , which was a liner build in the 30’s carried 16,000 troops at one time . She was larger than titanic but it’s fascinating . One voyager, the queen Mary was carrying troops and was broadsided by a rouge wave . It was estimated if she has leaned another few degrees , she would have completely capsized with thousands of deaths . This story was heard by author Paul Galico who later wrote “ the Poseidon adventure “ about a huge liner that capsized on New Year’s Eve with only a handful of survivors.

No they did not have enough lifeboats because even if Andrews try to push it the final people that had the final call thought it would look to clutter on deck and therefore did not have so much lifeboat (after all according to most the Titanic was unsinkable)

8:00 Actually, the Titanic was under capacity. There were just over 2200 passengers and crew aboard however the ship had a capacity of over 3500 passengers and crew. The 20 lifeboats only had a capacity of 1300. So say Titanic was fully booked and every lifeboat was launched at full capacity, you would still have 2200 deaths.

Ships were never full compacity. It didn't help that Titanic's voyage was delayed a month because of the repairs to the Olympic and the coal strike of 1912. Many passengers such as JP Morgan canceled their voyage because of the schedule conflict.

Actually based on some research I have done titanic had more than enough lifeboats for the maritime regulation at the time and plus lifeboats back then weren’t seen as a a way to evacuate everyone off a ship and plus in my opinion it would not have made much of difference regardless if she had more lifeboats because you got to think about the lifeboat davit system Titanic had she had the welling davits which are very complex and also keep in mind that a lot of passengers would refuse to leave the ship and also think about Titanic’s final moments she went down with pure aggression at that point look at collapsible Lifeboats A and B they were nearly destroyed by the shear force and aggression of the water collapsible B flipped over and capsized and collapsible A was nearly dragged down with the ship and if Titanic had more life boats a lot of them would not have been able to make it out successfully and a lot of the would have gotten absolutely destroyed by the water especially when the broke in half and also there would be a lot of lifeboats especially the one that aren’t attached to the davits those boats would have slip down the deck hurting or even killing people so no in my opinion it wouldn’t have made a difference if she had enough lifeboats or not and also White star line did not advertise the ship as unsinkable they simply just said that the Titanic and other ships part of the Olympic class liner where well bet and safe ships this does not mean that they where unsinkable.

They had less lifeboats because they thought it cluttered the walkway on the deck and thought since it was unsinkable, more lifeboats were unnecessary. To this day, I still cannot understand why the Californian did not have 2 people working the radio in case of emergencies.

That's not entirely true. Titanic actually carried MORE boats than was requires (the four collapsibles). Maritime law at the time required that ships over 10,000 tons to carry 16 lifeboats - titanic carried 20

The reason the required number was so low was that they expected another ship to always be close enough to be on the scene before it goes down completely, and both ships could tag-team their lifeboats to get everyone off quickly.

Violet Jessop was nearly chopped up by the H.M.H.S Britannic's propellers the lifeboat she was in was launched without authorization from the bridge, Captain Charles Bartlett was attempting to beach the ship on the the nearby island of Kea. If you'd like to learn more checkout Titanic Honor and Glory's most recent real time sinking video of the Britannic. There's also a movie about the Britannic but is dramatized and some parts aren't accurate. There's a real time sinking video of the Titanic by Part Time Explorer it's pretty eye opening. Lastly there's a real time sinking video of the Lusitania by Titanic Animations, there's also a movie about the Lusitania's final voyage if you interested. There's also two videos by Part Time Explorer that showcase the history and evolution of the White Star Line fleet and of the company itself you can maybe checkout on you own time if you like.

I bought the book on Violet Constance Jessop years ago and it was an excellent read. The TITLE of the book is "TITANIC SURVIVOR : The Newly Discovered MEMOIRS of VIOLET JESSOP Who Survived Both the Titanic and Britannic Disasters." So it is all written BY her. Introduced , Edited and Annotated by John Maxtone-Graham. You might be able to find it online. I bought it at one of the TITANIC EXHIBITIONS that I attended years ago. I have read MANY books on the TITANIC and own and have seen MANY Documentaries on the TITANIC, the HISTORY and DISCOVERY channel has showed many more recent documentaries about the sinking, the wreck and the debris field that is around it at the bottom. It is all very very interesting, though sad.

Concerning life boats, it wasn’t just about life boats cluttering up the deck, although there is a concern there in the event of an evacuation if you can’t get everyone on the decks because life boats are blocking access; the way Titanic was designed, that would have been an issue. By the time her sister ship Britannic sailed, they had engineered a way to correct that, precisely because of what happened to Titanic. But there’s another, often overlooked reason Titanic didn’t have enough life boats: because, according to maritime regulations at the time, actually very few ships had enough life boats for everyone. The movie makes it look like this was unique to Titanic, but it really wasn’t. In fact, regulations at the time only required Titanic to have 16, and she had 20, so she had more than required. In the 1910s there was no commercial air travel, so passenger ships were the only way to cross the Atlantic. For that reason, there were actually a lot of ships out there. The theory was that if a ship was is distress, it would use its wireless telegraph to alert a nearby vessel, which would come to the rescue. The life boats would then be used to ferry the passengers and crew from the sinking ship to the rescue ship. And it works in theory. As it was, there was a nearby ship. If the Californian had immediately responded, it might have arrived in time to save almost everyone. The sinking of the Titanic showed the world that maritime regulations were outdated and did not account for worst-case scenarios. People think what happened to Titanic was down to pure hubris, and in a way, it was, but not because people thought Titanic was unsinkable. In fact, the ship was completely up to code for the time. And what happened wasn’t even the worst case scenario. The worst case scenario would have been the ship capsizing early in the sinking. If that had happened, it is unlikely that more that several hundred could have been saved. The silver lining of all of this was that Titanic showed the flaws in existing maritime laws, which were almost immediately updated. All ships are required to have enough life boats for all passengers. The radio must be on at all times. And they also founded the International Ice Patrol, which is in operation to this day, whose job it is to track icebergs and warn ships of where they are.

The Cunard line which owned the Carpathia is still alive and well but the White Star line did a long time ago It’s not that they ignored it, because of the reverse mirage, they only got bits and pieces of the messages and only saw the flares on the horizon and misunderstood it and ignored it There was more than the number of lifeboats required so more would’ve taken up deck space they profited off of and lifeboats were never meant to carry everyone at once, just to ferry people to a safe ship and go back for more, there couldn’t have been enough for everyone anyway Icebergs don’t sink, but the icebergs and polar areas are melting at an alarming rate due to people being heartless and mindless and consuming animal products and fossil fuels and pollute. They also left half full due to the increasing sinking rate and because some stewards took “women and children first” to mean “women and children only” The binos would have been useless or saved a few seconds which wouldn’t have mattered... reverse mirage... they couldn’t have seen it until they were too close... What fat income? Only the rich people had that, most others just enough to survive Not fun fact, the families of the crew who went down with the ship got charged for not returning their uniforms! Yes, seriously. The father of one of them fought them legally and eventually they left him alone... Fred Fleet, one of the two lookouts who survived albeit with temporarily frozen feet, went back home later and as soon as his wife died he got kicked out of the house by her family and then had a hard life and basically got bullied into suicide as an old man... poor dude...

If you want to learn about the Titanic, watch Historical Travels and Ocean Liner Designs. Ignore most of what Brightside say about Titanic, their videos, like this one, are chock-full of historical inaccuracies. This video is not a good choice if you want to sift through the BS.

Interesting video. Just one thing that J would like to bring up, if I may. Is the narrator in the video absolutely sure that the other ship was called the "SS" Californian? Because nowadays in history, of course, any vessel that has the initials 'SS" before her christened name would normally mean that it was a German ship. Remember, any ship starting with "SS" before it's name during that period in history would only mean one thing: Germany. Or in this case: NAZI Germany. And the Titanic did sink in 1912 - approximately two years before the beginning of the First World War. Back in those days, Germany was an enemy nation, so to have one of their ships voluntarily come to the aid of a stricken British vessel, considering the uneasy tension between the two nations at that time, seems somewhat questionable. If it was instead christened as the "USS" Californian, of course, it would identify the ship as being American. A lot more likely that an American ship would assist the Titanic as the US and Britain have been longtime allies, even at that time too. Just wondering. But how much history would have changed drastically and even more so for the grieving families who tragically lost so many loved ones in such a sad way all those decades ago. History will NEVER forget the name RMS Titanic, or all who perished with her. May they rest in peace. God Bless. 🙏🌹🕯️

All steam ships could be called SS or MV (Motored Vessel) for German ships. Titanic can be called SS, but the formal name is RMS (Royal Mail Ship), a prestigious designation given by the Royal Mail service. Titanic had a post office and mail hold for shipping. So every steamer could be called SS, but not every ship could be labeled RMS. SS can also be used for sailing ships. In the 1800's, some sailing ships also had steam engines. The sails were used sparingly, but it was more for aesthetics to transition passengers expectations of what a proper ship should look like.

The Californian was actually a British ship owned by the Leyland Line. Ironically, the Titanic was American owned by JP Morgan of the International Mercantile Marine Company (IMCC) which owned the British White Star Line.

SS just means Steam Ship. The Nazi SS (Schutzstaffel) didn't exist yet, and even ships under them were still called SS for Steam Ship, or MV for Motor Vessel if they had a gas engine instead.

The Only Fun Fact You Need To Know : The Titanic didn't sink what sank is an older ship called the Olympic JP Morgan owned both and the Olympic was secretly prepared to look new and repainted overnight with the name titanic on it so the owner jp morgan can collect the insurance money from the titanic instead, he wasn't on the ship and cancelled an hour before takeoff , all his business competitors at the time however were on the ship and sank with it. Gives you a while new look on the name titanic doesn't it Remember when rose said it doesn't look any bigger than the moritanya ? She was right and this was the only hint to the bate and switch in the movie.

That theory was debunked ages ago: the titanic and olympic weren't together for that long only around 40 days plus all of the interiors where stamped with a yard number 400 for the Olympic and 401 for the titanic ( which I believe was found on the wreck but I'm not sure) and the would have had to remove and swap the interiors. 40 days is not enough time to Change all of the other features the titanic had and the Olympic didn't e.g. the A deck and B deck promenades. I don't know to much about it so I would recommend the all of the videos that debunk this theory.
