OMG yes! I'm from Australia so only discovered the tin whistle when my family went to Ireland after visiting family in London. In school we were taught that horrible plastic recorder, but the D Major (most common?) whistle is VERY similar to the recorder... a basically just learned a few basic songs/Irish songs and after that just played by ear. It still amazes me though just how much better tin sounds than the plastic!
Lei, that was great. I loved it. I have watched and listened to oyhers play this tune and they stick with ome keyed whistle, but when you changed keys for this higher pitched portion, it made all the difference in the world. It was so much nicer, thx.
if you are in USA, you can find generation Bb whistle in thewhistleshop, tony dixon Bb is ok too, and if you want the sound with breath, you can buy a shaw Bb whistle and I have the back round music, if you need please let me know.
I don't know, but it's not difficult, don't practice only without thinking.thinking and sum-up are also important, maybe you can improve you skill very fast. joanie madden is our whislte queen,I met her in 2010, she is very nice.I am only a musical instrument seller here in China. but I really like these music, if you have any question, please let me know, I can tell you everything that I know.thank you(*-*)
you can get the second whistle from 3w(dot)feadog(dot)ie feadog nickle D whistle.dont' forget to pull the whistle head out 7-8mm, it will give the right pitch.
GREAT. Karin use a Susato, what do u use, and what is your assessment and recommendation. i play chinese flute (dizi, xiao, xun, ba wu), as well as Indian flute. Just got an Altus to learn western. would love love to learn this. assume it is easier than the flute as its blow-in and smaller, but how good is all about technique and CONTROL? Appreciate your advice : )
Oh my gosh, I am a flute player, I dont know tin whistle, never hear of it. I am impressed, What a beautiful song, incredible. Congrats dude, you play very well. You rock!!!
The red top is a Generation in the key of Bb. The black top is an Oak in the key of D. You can get them pretty much anywhere...ebay, amazon, specialty shops online, just look them up.
Very nice playing. Where did you get the backing track? Also, I cant seem to pull of the higher octave D even tho I have the same whistle as you. Whats up with that? Seems almost impossible regardless of how hard I blow.
Absolutely beautiful! My husband had a cd that had Native American music on it. This was one of the songs on that cd. Unfortunately he lost that cd in a traffic accident. Do you play other popular music on your instrument? Thank you!
first octave need a very less pressure, second octave need more air, you should give more pressure, the whistle sound will cover the airflow sound, the note, from low to high, need different pressure, week to strong, the pressure step is more distinct than other woodwind instrument.so you need more practice, don't need to try other whistle, if you can control feadog whistle, you will control any whistle. try to use different pressure to play a same note, memorize the right sound and strength.
Does the color (Red) of the mouthpiece indicate anything? I'm trying to find the exact same one in D that You're using in this video because I absolutely love the sound it's producing!! I'm trying to learn how to play this because of how well You have done in playing the Song!! I'm absolutely New to the Tin Whistle and been practicing with one I bought earlier after hearing You play. Great Job!!
Very good performance buddy ! I also play the whistle and I never got a teacher or something. I don't even know how to play with notes. However, I have never heard anyone playing the Titanic theme nearly close as I do. But I like your style ! Sounds very good :) I may make a record of me playing it for you if you are interested :)
Thanks to you i can now play any soundtrack on the tin whistle and i've completely mastered this song in particular, i live to watch you play it and play it myself at the same time so thank you very very very much!!!!
I think that's the most beautiful version I heard on youtube. I have the same tin whistle and I wish I could play this song like this. I got to practice. Greetings from France
I have the same Feadog D as yours. But when I blow the second octave, the sound is not nice. It sounds like the breaking sound of a kind of metal. Do you think if I try another several months, I can blow nice sound at the second octave? Or should I buy a new more expensive one?
Thanks a lot. ^_^ Your advice is so helpful. But how long should I practice? Should I practice several years or several months. I am trying to practice the Airs of Joanie Madden now. I have seen your other videos. You are fantastic. I wish I could do as well as you. I think you are a professional musician and teacher, aren't you?
Hi, ninjatl, wonderful play! I found some videos of Chinese folk music uploaded by you. So I guess your are from China. I also play Chinese Bamboo flute, Xiao, Bawu and Hulusi. Now I find Irish tin whistle very interesting after watching your video and want to try it. I bought a Clarke whistle from Amazon. But it sounds very pale and I have returned it. I follow your comments and try to find better whistle from "thewhistleshop". But I am not sure which one to choose. can your share some advice?
Hi , your perform is very nice. I really love it. Can you tell me the first whistle you use is the same as Andrea Corr use while she perform with Celine Dion? (sorry , can't post youtube link here)
To:Tong Lei: I have got to tell you that I actually cried, that is the most beautiful song, You did such a superb job playing your Irish whistle, I have saved your video to my favorites, Have a wonderful life,
im looking into learning specifically this song, and i love your version best, i would like to get the same whistles as you have, what a i looking for? i got the first one, but the higher pitched silver and black one i cant find, i dont read music i listen an play everything i know from sound. so itll take time
Hi! can someone PLEASE tell me what programm can I use to edit the audio I make of my whistle to make it sound like this? and how to? I have been trying to find a tutorial on that or info on google but I dont even know how to search for it. Thank you!
Great, great, great! Generation Bb and Feadog D are my favourites, too. But my Feadog D is a black one. Anyway, absolutely impressing. I would like to hear braveheart or Enyas Sun in the stream, if you like to ... :-)
Please!!!! PLEASE!!! PLEASE!! CAN YOU TELL ME IN WHAT KEY YOUR TIN WHISTLE IS!!!! POR FAVOR!!! ME PODRÍAS DECIR EN QUÉ LLAVE SE ENCUENTRA TU SILBATO IRLANDÉS??? PLEASE!!!!
Hi Tong Lei, I admire your wonderful playing skills, can you please tell m where to get such a wonderful arrangement (that you use for Titanic song) from?
Hi, Tong Lei, thanks a lot for your message. May I have the sound track of "My Heart will go on", too? I need to buy a whistle Key Bb. I have no time and money to learn from someone. In Japan, it is very expensive to take some music lessons. I am a professional housewife. I checked the schedule of some music schools, unfortunately, I have to work. I think I can practice by myself, but it is not so easy.I cannot do well with the ornamentation, too difficult for me.
best version I have seen, the fingering seems very different from the tutorials I have looked at ? Can I get those somewhere? Is that a generation b and a feadog d ?
I need to work on improving my playing of this tune (on the Scottish Highland Bagpipe) for a wedding later in the year. This video will certainly help. Thanks for sharing, and making such wonderful music. Good luck from England !
