90 day update on how my titanium 150A spool gun from harbor freight is doing! Initial spook gun review: TITANIUM 150A SPOOL GUN FIRST USE! • TITANIUM 150A SPOOL GU...
Thank you for the demo. I didn't expect that Titanium with spoolgun is so good on 120V. Special thanks for tests. Nice boat - you've leveraged this covid time off. Keep going man.
I have the same welder and learned how to weld with gas.. had to work during 2020... but still built a 6’x10’ utility trailer w/4’ folding ramp for toys.. and a 92”x 14’ trailer for a camper.. same thing.. no issues until I ran out of wire! I have the spool gun and gas.. but not used it yet.. great boat!
Killer. I drive and work on 45 jet boats. Got a 350p at the shop but before that we were down to a 220 Miller with spoolmate100 and it sucked balls. I built an 18’er with it and probably burnt through 100 tips. 100amp just couldn’t hang. Been curious about 150amp gun running on 120v for mobile and home use for fixing buddy’s boats etc. Very impressed!! And nice build!
I just got the titanium 200 Multi-process welder and the spool gun. Now that I finally got an affordable argon tank I can't wait to get some practice in with my spool gun!
What tank? I'm looking at getting this spool gun for my Titanium 170 at some point, first I need to get a gas tank for mild steel, oh and learn how to weld also haha
Nice boat! I have the 200 as well and I love it.. I will caution you tho when hooking and unhooking to the gas inlet on the back of the machine make sure that you hold the fitting going into the welder w a wrench so the selonoid valve does not spin internally.. It is right next to the main power switch and the voltage selection switch and is a metal casing , if it comes in contact ( which it will!) with the tabs on the switches u can fry the welder... I was lucky enough to get my machine unplugged and it only burnt a wire in two and arced a small pinhole in the selinoidvalve casing.. the mfg should have used a locking/star type washer on the inlet fitting inside the machine to prevent anything from turning and making contact... other than that I love it and am very pleased so far and now I can’t wait to get a spool gun and start learning how to weld aluminum
DUDE I’M IMPRESSED. I JUST BOUGHT A WELDPRO 200 TIG 120V/240V I CAN’T WAIT TO GET IT. I’D LOVE TO BUILD A SMALL JET BOAT. I WISH I HAD THE ROOM. LOOKS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME MAN I LOVE IT. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
the point is if you take that welding job to a shop they going to charge you for as much as the spoolgun cost you did very well on that job it is yours and it will works for you thank you much for your video
Try the vulcan aluminum wire. We were working on a Saturday and the welding supply shop was closed and figured we would give it a shot. Stuff ran great and was half the price.
Redemption Garage.. I'm glad the 150A is working for you. I am currently using it on 1/4" braces for heavy duty equipment ramps. It either burns the tip up fast or just cuts out every 3 inches or so. I can't get it to run right. I'm welding with Hobart 4043 wire .035. It has turned a 4hr job into a 2 day job due to these issues. Any suggestions?
I own a " titanium 140 " (runs 110v-220v) and compared to other machines ive owned in the past including hobart and miller machines, the Titanium is easily hands down, a far superior machine . Highly recommended. Dont let the price tag on the Titanium throw you off, it is a fully capable, professional quality, capable welder. Now finally with the long overdue spoolgun finally having arrived ,the matter has been settled. Titanium is the best
Id think running your welder that hard on 120 isnt good for it . Ive got the 200 unlimited and it runs smoothly. Titanium and vulcan are very good quality welders. They do the job just fine
What about 1/4inch...? I do alot of field repair. My ranger 250gxt will not allow a spool gun. I need a seperate unit. Reason why i ask is i actually have this spool gun brand new in the box in my basement for 3 years. It was given to me on a trade
Hey brother I had a couple of quick questions for you. 1st what is the Type of Aluminum you we're welding on during both videos 6061. 5054. Or 5053. And what size wire. .030-.035-.042 thanks for everything. I'm looking forward on seeing more of you're videos. 🇺🇸
Code dumb Response….no not worth it at all, he only made a video showing boat construction and FUEL tank using the spool gun to show you how worthless it is.
Hey brother I had gotten a 150Amp Titanium S/G. I'm going to be picking up 2. 170 Amp one for Aluminium one for Steel👍 I just wanted to thank you for all the information. I'm too going To be building a Guide boat soon. 27' long X 6'6" Wide X 31" deep 18° Bottom going big because of the big water here on the Columbia River in Oregon it gets a bit ruff Just wanted to say thank you're Bad ass for doing that especially with the covid-19 going on I've looked @ both videos thanks again be careful. 🇺🇸
Awsome build trooper, nice boat and itll last for yrs, screw them fibreglass dumps.yes i do have some questions my dad was a welder by trade, hes gone now and never wanted me to pick up the trade, never passed on any good tips.im into transportation job.but regardless i want to fix my own shit im real gearhead.i just bought the titanium 200.have yet to use it yet.but im doing an atv trailer rebuild from a single axle tilt snowmoble trailer.using 11/2 by 1/8 sguare steel for cage.dont have any gas yet but soon.really want to try out the tig n spool gun yet.i see were they say tig is aluminium best on ac machine but yet ive seen people use these machines on dc tig on aluminum. So my question is am i wasting my time doing any tig on aluminum.i mainly want to tig stainless exhaust pipe for my grand cherokee 2002 so i dont have to keep replacing the shit every two yrs.you think itll tig pipe ok???love ur content.wanna see that boat ripping up gator waters soon.snookie pa.keep welding!!!
Allen Snook thank you! I’ll have boat videos up soon. As far as your question goes. Dc tig aluminum is really challenging and really only for thick stuff. Your spook gun will do just fine and that tig will be awesome for stainless and steel!
Thanks for responding so quickly n prompt.i get what you said about dc tig mainly for thick aluminum. Ive seen were those guys who only have multi tig machines on ac/dc do thin or fancy shit.but im not about to drop two grand on machine i may use once.thats reason i went with hfs 200 multi welder.felt since mostly just hobby stuff it was swiss army knife type welder.best bang for my buck!!!plus i could dable in other areas.ive wasted so much by not getting best welders from start.because my first was 90amp sears stick which for just quick fixes was ok.then second i wasted on hf 160 mig but to my dismay was dissapointed it had no gas capabilty it was mostly a flux core mig.very shitty weldsand underpowered.next i grabbed a hf 225 stick welder on super sale on someones return at 140.00 had to have, well only to finally get it home and discover it only has 240 plug which my home doesnt have.so thats useless.so finally after watching utubers vids relized i needed a gas capable welder.so hope this titanium 200 pans out.i got the spool gun and after seeing ur success on all aluminum boat my hopes are high.i really hope they come out with foot pedal for tig setup, which seems way to go its tig use.which would make sense since the spool gun was extra option.hope they dont give us screwing on that one.well sorry so long n late on this but needed to explain my woes on getting in on this hobby.anyway thanks for encouragement n ur great project.!!p.s.i work for pendott 3 to 11pm second shift why im up late.ok keep grinding and stay safe!!!snookie pa.
I have this with the 200 do you always/ are you suppose to always push with aluminum? I had my better welds when pulling like wire mig. Only asking cause I don’t know I’ve been told suppose to push like you did with.
Redemption Garage thank you I think for me a lot of times it’s just an awkward feeling I feel more comfortable and stable pulling but I guess I need to do more practice you’re awesome thanks again
Hey did you ever damage or burn up a liner in the barrel. Mine got too much heat to it and curled. And now I am having one hell of a time trying to find a replacement liner. If you sourced one please let me know
Sorry for the late response, no I haven’t had any issues with it. In fact I accidentally dropped my 300 cubic foot bottle on the thing and it still works like a dream.
The weld did cause the failure. Aluminum suffers from a condition called hot shortness. You dumped to much heat into your weld, and that made the aluminum itself brittle. You needed higher amperage, and faster travel speed. Which, actually puts less heat into the weld metal. Your welds looked a bit cold. (Big and Chunky) Vibration will be your real enemy, it will reveal every bit of hot shortness. (overheated aluminum,) in the form of cracks that run through, or beside, your welds. Just wait til you fire up that engine. Here's hoping that it all works out for ya.
Sorry but that isn’t “hot shortness” , which actually is low strength at high temperatures. What you refer to is aluminum that has been annealed due to heat. Most aluminum that is commonly available is 6xxx series which is heat treated . When welded you anneal it and it looses strength. As far as being brittle you are also wrong as the material was more brittle as full 6061 T6 (if thats what is was versus 5xxx) as when full hard it is very brittle that is why it sometimes cracks when formed with too tight a radius.
