I have a titanium 170 with spool gun: it all runs amazing…. Aluminum, flux, and mig shielded… absolutely unbelievable… I have yet to burn a tip on aluminum welding and I’ve run through about 4 pounds of aluminum. I don’t know about the longevity of this machine, but the ease-of-use is out of this world. And you can most certainly weld aluminum thinner than an eighth with no problem, just watch your heat input and try to run each individual bead with the aluminum cooled….. I cannot say enough about how I was blown away by this machine… Love it!

I didn’t know Lincoln made this model in 220 volts, the one I was running is only 120, and when welding at full power it trips the breaker all the time. I was looking into the Hobert handler before I bought the Omnipro, the weight was the biggest down side for me. Do you have the Handler 210? I’m sure your Hobart will be running for many years to come. Thanks for commenting.

@@Mikefestiva Yah I bought it 20 years ago, it may be a 130? Eather way , for a 220v welder it will only weld up to 1/8" . I put it up for sale on facebook a while back, knowone would believe it was 220v. Yes its the Handler 210.

Just got the titanium unlimited 200. Running .035 with 75/25 argon/c02 it's putting nice flat welds on 3/8 tube I salvaged to make a rocket stove. It punches way above its price and size range. I haven't managed to overheat it yet.

Excellent video!!! i will say for anyone more then a hobbiest welder like myself Transformer welders are the way to go...We use a Millermatic 212 at work for the past 9 years with no issues...I use a Millermatic 200 from 1986...and my son who is a certified welder uses a Lincolin 260 and an Everlast Tig/Stick combo for his personal work...I had the same Lincolin for many years and i would pop 20 amp breakers before it would duty cycle out....I have never tried the Harbor Freight welder so i can`t comment on it`s performance....The ESAB Rebal we had would weld fine then go to full voltage and amperage...They were unable to fix it ...

Great work Mike! Well done video...again! I'm done with transformer based machines. I agree on every point you made about inverter based welders. As for flux core welding, that's for emergency use only. As for spatter VS splatter, you made a great point... WHO GIVES A SHIT. Another great tip when welding with a 120 volt MIG welder on thick materials,... regardless if its transformer based, or inverter based (much better), pre-heat the joint with a MAPP gas torch (yellow cylinder). It will really wake up those 120 volt machines! Like I've mentioned befor in other comments,... Ive sold all my millers and Lincolns. NO MORE! I'm done with those two companies. ESAB can suck it too. With the Vulcan and Titanium lines, you get VALUE, and QUALITY, and... CUSTOMER SERVICE! These machines are VERY WELL BUILT! Thanks again Mike. Thumbs up!
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 5 лет назад
Thanks Joe for commenting! Good point on pre heating, I definitely will remember that one. Yes the inverter welders are great, I have had the same conversation with my friend Dave, he completely feels the same, they just weld better and are much more efficient. Dude I finally got a AC TIG!!! I have wanted one and needed one for about 10 years now. I just found out that the Protig has been discontinued :( I don’t think Chucky 2009 did them any favors not hooking up his ground clap good and complaining about the HF start, ( but when his sponsorship is with other competitor companies then he’s bound to do a shit review) Anyhow I have wanted to try them out since they first came out, so I got the last one at my local store, it’s got the clear cover over the digital display, I think I remember you saying that was second gen??? Anyhow It welds great, I only got to try it out one night but on 240 I had no problems with the HF starts, man it’s going to open up the possibility for a lot of new projects! Ps I bought the extra warranty so I got three years no problem, and I talked with the HF manager about it being discontinued and it sounds like if it shits out I can get store credit or trade to a different welder, so I’m not to worried about it. What have you been up to these days?

I just got the Titanium mig 170 last Christmas. Put my truck frame back together with it and numerous other projects. I absolutely love it. I had a SP230 Lincoln years ago and I definitely prefer the inverter technology better. Seems so much smoother plus a lot smaller package to do the same job. Made a little side money with the Titanium because I was able to take it to a guys house and run off of his standard 110v outlet. It’s only been 10 months but I’m so pleased with it.

I have been watching these videos as well and i will tell you this, i went with the Titanium and I love it. Im VERY new to welding only doing some back in high school and I'm 42 now so its been a while. I choose the Titanium mostly thanks to these videos, its light weight and other reviews. I am glad i did. The Titanium is so easy to use and i was AMAZED how fast (about 4-5 practice passes) i really started getting great dime like beads. I wish there was a way to post them here. They both seem pretty similar so the price, compact size, weight and the look of it helped me lean to the Titanium. Again I'm very happy with it and don't regret it at all.

With the price jump on the Omelette Pro, I'd get the Titanium. I don't weld at home as much as I thought I was going to and if the green one had been around a few years back, I would have passed on my Hobart which has been fine, but I'm betting the Titanium is better and is more efficient.

Hello, I have had a lincoln weld pak 100 for more than twenty five years. When it was brand new for the first year or two it would run on a 20 amp 120 circuit but then it started popping the breaker on a regular basis after just a few minutes of welding. I contacted Lincoln and they claimed as I recall that the machine (and that is a 90 amp welder) needs twenty five amps to run. I installed a thirty amp 130volt circuit and have never had any trouble since. I have several welders but that lincoln has done a lot of work it can reach its duty cycle but that takes a bunch of welding. I use it with flux only as I have other machines for other uses. The transformer is heavy but if portability is not an issue they sure do last and I have used it on 3/16ths easily and a 1/4" with a multiple pass a lot over the years. I recently bought another Lincoln 180 240 amp and really don't feel it is as good a machine although more powerful of course as the old 90 amp Weld Pak 100. Take care. Doug

Thanks for your comment! That’s good to know about the breaker. A friend gave me a Lincoln weld pak 100, it was broken when he gave it to me years ago, the motor drive was plastic and broken so it wouldn’t feed wire, the parts where no longer available from Lincoln so I took it apart and drilled some small holes in the plastic so I could use wire to hold it together, then I used fiberglass and resin to repair it. I never had a problem with it after that, my biggest gripe was not having enough amps for single past welds on thicker metal, But I did a lot of projects with that welder. Take care

I notice your outlet has 15 amp socket. Is it fused for 15 amp? I got tired of my Hobart 140 popping the breaker, especially in the summer. So I stripped out the wire, upped the gauge, added a 20 amp breaker and a 20 amp socket. It was better but still occasionally popped. All my early work was using flux core and never quite got around to getting the tank and going full mig. Then I did switch. What a difference in less spatter, cleaner work area and virtually no smoke. Wish I had switched sooner. Totally agree with you. Unless outside in a breeze .... no FCAW for me.

Hey man thanks for this video, I was hoping to see someone put theses 3 machines to this kind of test. I notice you weld like I did until before I got my first real welding job where I had a supervisor show me a few things to make my welds better and life easier. Without sounding like a jerk I'd like to offer you what I was shown. First is your work position and torch angle. You should always do your best to line yourself up to your work so you are welding side to side as opposed to starting away from you and pulling towards you like in this video. If using solid wire, angle your torch back 10-15° from your direction of travel. This is alot easier when going side to side. Even if you're welding low to high (uphill) still stay to your off hand side. In other words if you're right handed stay to the left side of the joint or vise versa and put about a 15° up angle on your torch. You'll see much better as well. If you're using flux core remember "If there is slag, you drag!" This is the time to run a kind of back hand or pull motion with your torch. You even mentioned flux runs hotter and this allows the flux to rise up and reduce your chances of inclusions in your welds. One last thing, if you are running a thinner wire than you would like for a job that isn't critical, you can always grind open the the gap in your butt joint to about half the thickness of the metal stitch your bead side to side like a series of half moons, or bevel each side and multi pass if it really has to hold but is still not critical. Hope what I wrote helps you now, like you have helped me in the past! Stay safe! Peace

I try not to weld much with flux core wire anymore, mainly because I welded with that stuff way to long before I had a good welder and finally bought the expensive gas bottle. I understand that a lot of people buy a welder but don’t have extra money for a bottle, maybe in the near future I will post a video on this subject. I find myself less interested in posting how to weld videos mostly because of so many trolls, there’s many different ways and techniques when it comes to welding, and if I weld like I like too, there’s always a few people that seem to be extremely rude and complain. Thanks for asking, I will try and make a video on flux wire in the next few weeks, take care and thanks for commenting :)

I’ve been welding for a little now, compared to some I’m still a beginner and I know that. I’ve welded for work and hobbies, that being said every professional job I have ever done was with a Lincoln or Miller but the fact is that it was always stick or tig. Most professional welders use those two and only use mig on minuscule jobs. Now with that being said I have a Miller mig and an older stick welder, the miller just doesn’t cut it anymore. I’m constantly going over my welds because I’m not confident in the penetration or just using my stick welder. So that brings me to shopping and I resonantly found the volcan welder and decided to do my research on it and found your videos. I’ve now seen all of you comparison and reviews on both. I have enjoyed them all and the amount of detail you put in to them. I think you are 100% correct on your statement being that these are not big professional welders their an at home hobbiest tool and from ever think you’ve said and showed tells me that’s exactly what they are and I thank you for that and for your comprehension view and awesome videos. I will be buying the volcan Omni pro soon because of your videos!! Thank you again!

Mr. Mike, I was going to purchase small welder like that last year and they were like you say around 5 - $700 just to do some tinkering around the house, working on tractor equipment building different odds and ends and my brother who's been a welder all his life mostly on heavy equipment stop me. He said you would be so limited with just a small welder and he brought the information on an Eastwood 250i. As you know it's very difficult weld uphill vertical and overhead with an AC. Well this Eastwood he showed me was a 250 amp wire machine, stick welder, and TIG welder. It also has an adapter plug that you can run it on 120 volt instead of 230 of course on 120 it will not do what it will on 230-volt. Well I purchased it and it was about $1,100 with free shipping. The only thing was I had to buy a spool gun to run aluminum and I didn't know that and my brother should have but didn't think of it that you have to be able to weld TIG aluminum with AC. But it was only a couple hundred more dollars I mean even those machines your showing have to have a spool gun. I messed my back up real bad last year after I bought the machine and underwent two back surgeries so I haven't even got to try it out yet. But I just pick me up a couple of argon bottles 100%, and one 75 25% and hopefully I've recovered enough to start testing the machine out. All I've ever done was stick weld, I've tried MIG welding some but never owned a MIG. Currently all I have is one of those little Lincoln 225 box stick machine but AC only and trust me it will not do what the little AC DC's machine will do. Thanks for your video I enjoyed it I just thought I would throw that Eastwood into your perspective and you might like to try one. But hey, I bought this thing but you know everything looks good on paper! Happy welding
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 5 лет назад
Thanks Jack for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it! I'm sure that Eastwood welder will be a great machine for you. I'm sorry you hurt your back, I know how that is, I was almost killed in a car crash when I was 13 years old, a drunk driver hit us head on on the highway, long story short, I had two surgeries, one of them was to fuse three of my vertebrae, I had to wear a back brace 24 hours a day for over a year and a half, I was not even allowed to ride a bicycle at that time, ( that's tough for a kid to not be able to even ride with his friends) there was concern that I could get paralyzed if I crashed on my bike, that was 25 years ago, I still deal with back pain but you learn how to work and deal with it. I hope you start feeling better soon. Both of these welders are DC so TIG welding aluminum is out, but I have ran both welders with spool guns for aluminum and they work fairly good, I just bought a AC TIG welder recently for making motorcycle parts and more detailed work, It's been fun to play with. Back to welders and Amps Most of the jobs I do around my place and at my work is 1/4" and thinner metal, both of these welders will weld 1/4" single pass, I rarely weld thicker then that but if you do and don't have the available amps you can always do multiple passes. I hope you can get out and set up a comfortable welding station and start running your new welder! I hope to hear a follow up on your machine soon! take care

Mike, I need to weld a few windows and a door frame on my shipping container which is off grid with no access to power. I have been eyeing the Titanium for a while. Any idea on a generator size I would need for titanium 200 pro? I believe it’s 14gauge Corten steel and I’m welding square steel tubing (1/8 in. thick). Ty and great vid.

Great info here Mike! Upgraded from a the little Easy-Flux machine and an old AC buzz box to the Titanium 200 yesterday. With my inside track membership discount it was $772 for the welder plus $149.00 for the 2 year warranty. Everything has gone up but still a decent value. Picking up a gas bottle tomorrow with a project to get started when I get home!

re-watch your video at 2:38 you'll notice at the bottom of your weld there's a hole and if you cut across your weld in several places you'll see the same thing . When you do a root pass you should pay attention to the leading edge of the puddle to ensure that it's penetrating into the root . I to have the Titanium 200 and love it for mig welding . But if you want to stay in the same price range and do some tig welding try the PRIMEWELD TIG225X 225 sells for $775.00 and as a tig welder it does a great job , the foot pedal sucks but it can be replaced with the AHP SSC 7 pin pedal .

Thanks I appreciate it, I probably would have done two passes on the 1/4” but using three different welders on a 6” piece on metal and trying to video it all and keep track of each take just seems to much for me when filming this shoot. I really like the Titanium welder it’s really compact for it’s power and versatility, I have been having fun learning how to TIG weld with it, it’s basic but it’s nice to have a machine to learn on. I have a 140HD which the Home Depot version of the 140C. The only difference between the two is that the 140C has infinite adjustability on the voltage where the 140HD has A,B,C, or D settings. Don't get me wrong - the Lincoln has been trouble free and they make great reliable equipment but if I could do it all over again I'd by an inverter welder with a bunch of features instead of a MIG unit that is heavy and can only do flux core or MIG. Just my opinion

Both welders work great! I think the Vulcan 220 is a little more solid for bigger jobs and probably best for a fab shop or auto shop especially with the spot weld feature, but it’s a bit heavy about 50# I myself prefer the Titanium because it’s smaller lighter and more portable and because of that it fits my needs better. But I have to say the auto set on the Vulcan is really nice! If you don’t plan on moving your welder around much, it’s just going to stay in your shop and you want all the options then go for the Vulcan. If you want a light weight compact multi process welder with a few less features but at a great price go for the Titanium :) I hope this helps.

I’ve owned that Lincoln for about 3 yrs and I’ve never popped a breaker. I run it on a dedicated 20 amp breaker and I have pushed it to its max without popping the breaker. You must be on a 15 amp branched breaker. I like your video but I have a concern about the longevity of the Titanium.

I have 20 amp breakers in my shop, only had a few LED lights on the same breaker. I have always had this welder pop the breakers at my work too, and we are running it on 20 amp breakers there too. It’s been this way since we first bought it, maybe it’s a lemon???

Having put together an entire dirt track truck with the Lincoln, it definitely popped breakers nonstop. Two guys in the garage meant whoever wasnt welding was constantly flipping the breaker. Changing to a 20A only added about 2 inches of weld.

I have not seen a pedal for the Titanium 200 :( You can get one for the Vulcan Omnipro 220, but this pedal will not fit the Titanium. @Mikefestiva 5 лет назад
Haha! I think Lincoln is fine but I have had a lot of frustration with this one. Yes your right flux has it’s place, windy outside work and rusty metal, plus the fact you can leave the bottle at the shop, I keep a roll around for work on my sawmill, it’s useful for that stuff. My biggest beef with it is that’s all I had for many years, then I finally got a bottle of 75/25 gas and I have a hard time going back. Thanks for commenting and checking out my video :)

Mike festiva when you break down the cost of flux vs hard wire, the cost is phenomenally different. Flux runs about $6.10/pound of wire and hard wire runs about $2.30/pound. Now that is based on .035 wire which is what I run a lot of at my shop. The gas for a 125 cubic ft bottle is about $40 and you get roughly 25 pounds of wire out of it if you set it right. Each has their place and benefits. And a helpful tip for the Lincoln, it works best when ran on a 25-30 amp breaker panel.

Mike, I have one of these Lincoln 140 Weld Pak welders (Home Depot version with voltage 4 voltage taps versus infinitely adjustable voltage). I'm pretty much a novice and your welds look better than mine but I have difficulty getting things dialed in on the Lincoln at times and I think it's because I can't really fine tune the voltage. I'd like to buy one of these HF welders, probably the Titanium (lower cost). Does it weld better for you than the Lincoln? Just the weight savings and adjustability alone would be nice. The Lincoln has proven to be durable but lacks a lot. Just looking for your feelings as to which you think welds better?
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 5 лет назад
Hey Rich thanks for commenting! I like the Titanium WAY more then the Lincoln 140, I actually pack the Titanium to my work every week and use it rather then the Lincoln at my work just because it works much better and I also use the TIG torch quite a bit for repairs on worn out shafts on machinery where the bearings don’t fit good anymore, I tig weld the shafts to build up the metal again. I owned a weld pack 100, years ago and I have no regrets getting rid of it. Not only do I think these newer style inverter welders weld better then the old style transformer welders, there much lighter, multi process, multi voltage and more efficient when it comes to amp draw from the outlet. I really like my Titanium welder! Take care :)

Thanks Mike - I'm sold! It's funny, the Lincoln is only something like 55lbs. but when you start carrying it around it gets old, plus like I mentioned, while it's been reliable it's limited in what it can do. Hey Mike, quick question. I’ve been undecided between the Titanium 200 and Vulcan omnipro 220. Would any of these be useful to make a 25 x 15 carport? The thickest metal will be the 4x4 square tubing 3/16 gauge. Other than that I would use it for small welding projects?
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 4 года назад
Hey Jaime both welders work great and would handle 3/16” no problem. I really liked the Omnipro 220 but after trying out the Titanium 200 I found it fit my needs best because it was only about 26# and more compact compared to the 50# of the Omnipro, I find it to be much easier to pack around. The Omnipro has more options and I do miss the auto set feature the most but the Titanium has a really simple metal chart inside the door for settings so it’s a simple thing to setup quickly. I hope this helps.

just found your channel this week.By chance I'm looking for a Mig mainly for 110v. Went to the welding shop yesterday looking at the Lincon 140 priced at $859 with a mail in $210 rebate. Also went by and looked at the Harbor Freight Titanium unlimited 200 for $700. Compairing everything the Titanium is dual voltage which sez @ 220v it can weld 3/8 which is a possibilty. Then I ran across the Duty Cycle. I didn't understand what this was and went back asked at the welding shop and it wasn't well explained to me??? I watched someone elses channel on here and it explained it well. The Lincoln is a 20% duty cycle and the Titanium is 90amp 40% duty cycle (both @ 110v). I'm retired so this a major purchase for me. My friends want me to buy the Lincoln but I think it looks like the Titanium is a better unit but you are the only person who has praised it and you were laying down a impressive row of dimes. I'm about to pull the trigger on this sale. Am I looking at this correctly? What about parts or service on the Titanium?

I am also thinking about the Titanium. The downside of buying Harbor Freight is there are no parts options if something were to break and unless you buy the extended warranty there is no service. If you notice HF seems to replace welder lines every 2-3 years, maybe? It might be worth spending extra money so you can service your equipment 5+ years from now.

Hello. Can you tell me if the Titanium mig you have (140 or 170) will weld below 125ipm? This is my second Titanium 170 and neither would feed below 125ipm. Basically you pull the trigger and it feeds maybe 1/4" of wire and arcs, then it stops feeding but continues to arc from the tip to the work. It is on 2T with gas on and voltage around 15 and inductance in the center. Many chart settings are below 125ipm so that is why I am concerned. So its almost like the software isnt sending the feed motor enough power below 125ipm. Above 125ipm it welds fine. Thanks.

Crivo152 So do you have a TIG welder already and are looking for more of a MIG for your shop? After owning both here’s my take on it, both weld great! The Omnipro does have a nice screen and auto set is a great feature, it’s also just a turn of a knob to manually change settings, it has Lift TIG start and the capability to run a pedal so it’s nicer to stop the arc,(its a little nicer for TIG) The TIG features are better on the Omnipro, but cost more. It’s 50lbs so not exactly light, but has a better duty cycle. The Titanium it 24 lbs! Tig torch is included, no pedal available so far, scratch start, manual set up but welds great as well, price is great, compact for hauling around, this is the reason I really now prefer this one, because of its size and weight, I can live without the extra features in trade of portability. I hope this info helps you in your quest for a welder :) Take care

I'm really looking for a MIG for fabrication, TIG's too slow to weld up stands and the like. I have a TIG rig already so that's not a factor in my decision, but 110/220 is since I have both at home. Duty cycle is not a huge concern either, since I'm a pretty slow welder anyway. I guess I'm talking myself into a green machine aren't I? 😂
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 5 лет назад
I hear you on the TIG, it’s definitely a slower process. The MiG on both machines work great and the multi voltage is nice. If I were you I’d go with the Titanium as well, it’s a nice machine that’s completely capable of some bigger jobs. Most of the work I do a home is smaller projects and thinner wall tubing so duty cycle is not much of a factor, get yourself a bottle of Argon/ C02 mix and you will be pleased with how clean it welds!

Most welders in this category are supplied with a 50A plug but if you run this on a 30A, 240V circuit it should be more than enough. Of course if you can run a 40A or 50A circuit go for it but I'll bet that if you already have something a 240V, 20A setup I'll bet you can get away with it unless you are maxing out the machine all the time.

Mike festiva I guess that's the difference five extra amps of output can make. With my HD3200 (135 amp) I never had problems, and the friend I sold it to has had no problems. Sure glad I replaced it with 220 volt model which so far has been great, and I got a package deal on it that included an essentially free aluminum spool gun. Haven't used it yet. Bought it just before the Vulcan Welders came out, and I have to admit that from everything I've seen, I probably would've bought the Vulcan if they'd been out. All reports on them seem to be mostly positive.

What amps do you run for 120/220 with both welders?

Super China Mart is getting a bit cheeky with the pricing these days. I get the feeling the Titanium line exists for the sole purpose of making up the price on Vulcan. Just like Braun, Hercules, Earthquake etc...

I found the Titanium unlimited 200 as a return for $400. Totally my best purchase of the year.

Can any of these weld aluminum well on 120v with a spool gun?
@Mikefestiva
@Mikefestiva 4 года назад
Yes they all can run a spool gun. The Titanium 170 and spool gun would be your best value, if you buy the 170 and spool gun on sale you can get both for about $600. I think you would be limited to 1/8” or a little thicker on 120 volts. Take care

Been welding them their fr 52yrs now and its, batter not spatter! Yup, Really nice to see the comparison of these two. I've been salivating for the salad one but was wondering if a Tomato finish was tastier. I do a lot of small frame stuff and occasionally do bigger like perhaps a trailer frame. I own an older Linkoln 120 got it at Home Depot many years ago. (120 because I can plug in any were) It's been great no electric outage and no cut-off time, ever. But I want to tig .... a stick should be great too for trailer frames and such. I also think the weight factor is a big selling point for me. and your spot on when you talk about electronics for instance regardless of the price for a PC memory drive, you don't know what you have until its been past its infant mortality moment. hens 2yr insurance. In twenty years I've never used gas !! and am so looking forward to nice clean welds, no more vaping for me. I'll probably have to run CO2 only $$. I also like the deal with no breaker issue less draw, Ill probably run a cable from my clothes dryer plug to outside about 26ft. and being that the Titanium is easier on the draw it should also run better using a long extension cord... me thinks... .. . Great discussion no wast of words to the point and clear as a bell! Thanks for doing this.

Manual Truck Man Spool guns are for welding Aluminum, I ran spool guns on the Titanium 200 and the Vulcan Omnipro and they both weld really good!
@theaveragejoestinkeringand4407

Mike when I was in Vo-Tech all transformers, Lincoln, Miller, Hobart. My 1st big welder a $3300 Hobart 330 amp tig/stick. Great machine huge & heavy, now I have 3 Everlast's including my plasma 50, luv the HF on the tig, also have a little Eastwood 135 & now te Titanium 125, would never go back to a transformer, cost wise, size & weight, these inverters are great little machines!
