MY MERCH: bit.ly/3mBbwkf
In this video I try to learn the hardest piano song/piece in the world! La Campanella. But the problem is… I’m not a pianist. I’m just a guitarist. Hope you like it!
Tetiana is the most epic piano teacher for being apart of this video go check her out! / @tetithemis4660
Here’s what the detective on Fiverr uncovered about Liszt and piano practice:
“Hi there,
After a couple of hours of searching "shortcuts" etc on how to learn this piece - the general consensus seems to be that there are none! Many experienced piano players have stated that they have practised for years, and have still not truly mastered this piece.
However, some potentially useful advice:
In the beginning, your focus shouldn't really be on speed and accuracy, especially at the beginning. If you can afford it and can find one, getting a good teacher would help. However, assuming you do not wish to, and really want to embark on this ridiculously difficult challenge - here's my advice as someone who has been self-teaching piano for a few years.
Focus on getting the movements right. This is especially true if you're tackling something difficult: poor hand movements can cause injury, especially when attempting advanced pieces. As a rule of thumb, if you're planning to learn anything beyond ~grade 5 material, technique should really be your main priority. If done right, playing the piano should feel really effortless. It is possible to play demanding repertoire for several hours straight, and not feel any sense of tiredness at all. I know it because I've experienced it firsthand. If you're getting any muscle pain or joint aches etc., you're doing it wrong. Period. Figure out how to fix it.
On how to acquire "technique": There are several things to be noted here.
- You should increasingly learn to notice tension developing in any part of the body. Try and be aware of anatomy as well -- fingers DO NOT have muscles, the muscles that power movements of the fingers are in the palms and forearms. Body weight and strength from the forearm, back, shoulders, etc. is transferred via the fingers, and the fingers just act kind of like the 'medium' to transfer the energy: they are not supposed to take a beating. You should feel no strain on the fingers even after playing difficult passages for hours straight. The wrist and forearm should typically be kept level with the keys. Look up videos on piano posture on RU-vid.
Read up whatever you can on Pianostreet about technique (bernhard's posts are quite good). Also watch all the videos on RU-vid about technique you can find (look up pianocareer, Graham Fitch, cedarvillemusic and Josh Wright)”

Ok guys. I’ve been answering thousands of your comments now. This is apparently not the hardest piano piece ever😅 I googled ”hardest piano piece ever” and La Campanella showed up in bold letters. I know nothing about piano so I won’t argue. So I’m interested to hear: what is the hardest piano piece ever? I have noticed everyone gives a unique answer to this. Please battle it out down below👍

Oopsie everyone is shitting on me for saying flight if the bumblebee, Ik it’s not the hardest and very overrated but I just like the piece 👍. Chopins Etude winter wind on the other hand I LOVE and is also quite hard. Definitely would say it’s the hardest as there are many Liszt pieces that seem impossible to play

@@zacyo7851 Flight of the Bumblebees is literally 3000km away from La Campanella. I personally think that the Flight of the Bumblebees is way way easier than the Campanella, I don’t know why people think it is the hardest, indeed it seems impressive but like, there is so much harder than that... Anyway, I think we could take some other pieces from Liszt, such as Hungarian Rhapsody No.2, which is legendary, or some other Etudes from Liszt too

Whereas a song is made by a singer, and most of the time have lyrics and is being sung. Imo not everybody can play a piece but everybody can sing a song. (but i'm not an expert so it's just a theory)

Tips for practicing (from a pianist): Divide the piece of music into sections.Don’t attempt to play a piece with both hands. First play with your right hand (slowly) until you get it right, then you can start adding some speed. After you master the right hand you do the same with the left hand. You can start playing with both hands slowly when you’ve got the hang of the left hand. And when you get that right move on to the next section. You did a good job anyway, keep up the good work!

I myself tried to learn pretty difficult pieces, which where way to hard for my level of knowledge. What I found out eventually: You can start to learn whatever piece you like but there is no shortcut. If a piece needs 10 years of experience to master it, it will take you 10 years to learn. In the end it's not the most effective way to to learn piano; cos in the end you will be able to play one piece. Hence, you're still a one trick pony. Learning pieces according to your level will give leave you with a complete reportoire filling an entire evening. Having played piano for 10 years now, I'm amazed! If you've never played piano before, the large jumps, especially octaves, don't come nearly as easily. Also, the trap of the opening of La Campanella is to forget about the melody, and play the little bells at the top of the right and far too loudly. You didn't do that at all, in fact, your voicing was amazing! It goes to show that musical concepts and sensitivities do transfer from instrument to instrument

Following advice: Play this piece in short chunks. Play the chunks first for the right hand, then for the left hand and then for both hands. Play it slowly Note for Note. If you feel like you got it then just try using a metronome at very slow Rates and play it rhytmically. Watch if you make any mistakes. If you make one try to fix them as soon as possible. It's way easier fixing mistakes sooner because later on your brain just remembers the mistake and getting rid of it is a long and painful proces. Watch your posture. Just ask any good piano teacher how to sit properly. Practice the scale la campanella is written in. There are some some tutorials out there how to practice the scales. And work on it every day. Your brain jus can handle certain amount of skill gained every day. Like the first 30 minutes your brain can really focus but it looses it overtime. Taking brakes. Making progress every day will be the most effective way to practice it. Also skipping days will make your progress go backwards. That's my advice

There are definitely some “Liszt secrets” to help with this piece. First, the jumps are relatively slow so take care to play the bottom and top voice well separated from each other (as indicated by the staccato). This means that you don’t only move from side to side but up and down for each note. It also means you have to think in sixteenth notes rather than eighths. This gives good control of both the melody and the clock. Second, don’t stretch for the high d#. Hit it almost from above, so as not to touch the c#. The first point enables this. Also, depending on your anatomy hit it with 3, 4 and 5 more or less all together in a very relaxed touch. All this should sort of feel like you are playing it in octaves.

There's a reason why absolutely every pianist/piano teacher will tell you to be more relaxed and do it slowly, because it's effective, if you try to pick up the tempo from the start, there will be close to zero progress, but if you practice slowly and in a calm/relaxed manner the results will be much more drastic. another problem your encountering is your body, the reason pianist are struggling to truly learn this piece is because it needs to have a trained body, more specifically finger/hand muscle training and flexibility training, what you're trying to do in this video, meaning learning la Campanella in 12 days, is the same as new starting weightlifter trying to pull up 120 KG weight, but still, it was a fun video to watch.

Now I’m not a master at piano or anything like that, but I’ve been playing the piano for quite a few years now, and here are some tips that seriously changed my life: 1. Divide the passage into different sentences, and work on one sentence first, try to more or less master it, and then move on to the next sentence. 2. Practice with each hand separately UNTIL YOU MASTER EACH HAND ON ITS OWN. If you can’t play it perfectly with one hand, how do you expect to be able to play it perfectly with both hands? 3. Both during the single hand practice and when practicing together, start really slowly and with a lot of dynamic (in other words, press the keys as hard as you can, even if it says to practice more gently). 4.Only when you are comfortable playing with both hands with decent rhythm on the whole piece, start to add the pedal and change of dynamics. 5. Try to memorize each hand separately, and every now after mastering the piece, every now and again, like once every other week, try to practice the hands separately again and with a slow tempo, so that you won’t mess it up later, and when working on other pieces. 6. As soon as you can, try to learn the scales (all the main major and minor scales) as well as their chords and arpeggios, and repeat them daily. Those will make learning new pieces just sooooo much easier. 7. I struggle with this last one as well, but TRY TO use a metronome while practicing. At least in the early stages of learning the piece. When you’re half-decent at it, you can ditch it if you feel comfortable with the rhythm.

Here is some general advice: whenever practical, do not use your thumb or little finger on the black notes. Those fingers are shorter and have a hard time reaching that far Try to use a note as an anchor point before changing hand positions. So if you hit a note and then have to go up a few notes to a different one, keep that first finger on that first note and stretch your hand up to the next one if possible. You may have to work out a specific fingering that works for you. Don't have your hand jump from one note to the next if possible. So in La Campanella, after the octaves at the beginning, when you have to hit that black note with your little finger followed by your thumb, don't leap. Pull your thumb in toward your little finger, and when your thumb gets to that note, reach out your little finger to hit the next one. The next part will probably require some leaps from you, but you can use one of the black notes between the high note that you have to hit with your little finger and the melody notes you have to hit with your thumb as an anchor point. Even though you never press down on it, you can use it as a reference point. Try using your pointer finger on the Gb for this. If that doesn't work, try a different black note. Lastly, when you are playing the piano using black and white notes, try to play the Black notes close to the end of the key, and play the white notes just below that (at the top of the wide portion of the white note) it minimizes the forward and backward movement when you shift from a white note to a black note and vice versa. Hope this helps!

Paderewski recorded La Campanella He said that the hardest piece to play was Chopin's 21st. Etude (Op. 25 No. 9), nicknamed "The Butterfly". Opinions differ, but this is a very special opinion, because Paderewski achieved performances that went beyond merely playing the notes, injecting the music with sublime meaning. It is a more meaningful goal to learn a technically simple piece which is interpretively difficult, than a mediocre performance of a technical composition. Secondly, an acoustic piano, even a cheap one, is needed to achieve a suitable level of expressiveness. That's because of the interactive resonance of the strings which is accomplished through dynamics, phrasing, and damper pedal.
