Tito Gobbi is one of the most exciting voices and drama artist ever. The ocean ov his voice is swallowing me, his mimique with his emotions make me mad.
Grande Giuseppe Verdi, Grande Tito Gobbi. Ho un impressione che noi russi adoriamo e apprezziamo opera italiana più che lo fanno gli italiani. E non solo opera, tutta la cultura italiana. Purtroppo in Italia non fanno vedere quasi mai questi geni in Tv.
Voi russi apprezzerete pure l' opera italiana ma non ne comprendete per nulla il sentimento, visto quello che state combinando in Ucraina. Vergognatevi !!!
I saw this opera at least 6 times with different very good opera singers in this role . But nobody was as good for me as Tito Gobbi . He was the best baritone I ever heard as Rigoletto . He put his soul in singing . Bellissima voce . Il Grande Gobbi . Molto Grazie .

My first opera, at age 12, I saw Gobbi in this role in San Francisco. I'm 79 now, after a life spent in opera, and on that same stage, among others. Gobbi's magnetism made my every hair stand on end, and I've seen no one since to equal him. One of the greatest stage performers of this or any other century.

I saw him in this role in San Francisco in '53 or '54-- I was just into puberty, and every time he opened his mouth to sing every hair on my body stood up straight. I'm 77 now, after 55 years on the opera stage myself, including a decade singing bass at San Francisco Opera. Gobbi was the most electrifying performer I ever saw, bar none. I think the only rival he ever had in that respect was Callas, whom I never saw, and to have seen them together would have been a life-changing experience.
At 83 I beat you both out. I saw them both in Tosca st the Met. To this day I still love them and DeStefano . No has yet been able to replace these giants nor will the ever! Thank you for this marvelous film.

While Gobbi's performance here is the greatest I've ever heard, Maria shows that she understands the complexity that Verdi intended even more than Tito. Oltre alla profonda e scura voce baritonale, necessaria al ruolo, si aggiunge una interpretazione scenica degna di un grande attore. Una bravissima Gilda (Renata Scotto). Bravissima come al solito e specialmente in questo ruolo. Un pensiero nostalgico per la scuola di un tempo.

A quattro anni vidi la versione cinematografica di Rigoletto,con Tito Gobbi! Piansi x tutta la durata del film! Veramente un grande baritono ed un grande attore!
I got to meet Mr. Gobbi backstage after his Tosca with Corelli and Callas at the Met. I didn't realize what a monument he was. Love to bring back those days!

Редко какой певец может исполнить вторую и третью части арии Риголетто так, чтобы их было интересно слушать. Обычно проорут первую громогласно с высокой вставной "соль", а дальше скука смертная. Гобби же - настоящий мастер красок. Он сумел построить драматическое развитие на протяжении всей сцены, как то и задумал Верди. Гениальный АКТËР, гениальная запись, пусть и без высокой вставной ноты.

He was NO MYTH! I saw him at the Edinburgh Festival in the late 1960’s in 2 One Act Operas and with Callas and Cioni at Covent Garden at the start of the 1960s as Scarpia in Tosca.Sorry to say this of a beloved artist but he was barely audible. I was in the stalls on both occasions and I was surprised at his volume. I did. not expect Bastianini or Capuccilli but Gino Bechi his teacher was the same.Great legato but lack of VOLUME!A Pity.

Per interpretare questo ruolo ci vogliono 5 colori diversi e di più… 1 del tenore leggero / il primo duetto con Gilda/ 2 del tenore drammatico / i finali del secondo e l’ultimo duetto / 3 del basso baritono / il primo duetto con Sparafucile/ 4 del baritono drammatico / quasi la metà del ruolo/ 5 mezza voci , pianissimi, colore dolce, innamorato, vendicativo… Gobbi cantava tutto il ruolo con lo stesso colore di voce e il suo registro acuto era poco impressionante. Avere una bellissima voce non è solo un dono di Dio , ma anche il risultato finale di un lavoro duro sulla tecnica e l’interpretazione. Mai giudicare un cantante dopo aver sentita una registrazione. Un Artista lirico si può apprezzare veramente solo durante una recita dal vivo . Questa è la mia modesta opinione. il vecchio N
@@bodiloto I agree with all your points, especially about a live performance vs a recording. However with both Callas and Gobbi our only option is the latter, a recording. We cannot attend their live performance. And with the remastered sound we truly don't know what tricks have been played and how the sound was adjusted. Still we can get an overall idea and we can hear the voice either glorious or strained and we can hear the difference between Callas in 1950 vs 1960. Whereas Gobbi captivates by coloring his character in a unique way, I was recently listening to his Nabucco (with Elena Suliotis) and although his voice is not the most beautiful, his coloring and nuancing of each scene, from the vainglorious king to the lost man is just extraordinary. But of course the quality of his voice cannot be compared with Fischer-Dieskau, Thomas Hampson, Peter Mattei, Bastianini, Renato Bruson or Hvorostovsky, to name a few. I do believe however that each great artist like the aforementioned ones brings something of his own to the role. Opera is not a sport so I enjoy each one, appreciating "armonia di bellezze diverse". Bravissimi tutti!

Gobbi accanto ai suoi colleghi Baritoni era un cantante ‘eletto’ niente di più. Un certo Giuseppe Verdi ha creato il personaggio di Rigoletto chi è un gobbo difforme, un buffone…proprio per questa ragione l’artista chi sta interpretando il ruolo di Rigoletto deve avere una voce Meravigliosa, Sublime del baritono drammatico vero, l’opposto al suo bruttissimo fisico . Non capisco ma come mai un musicista deve suonare in modo perfetto il registro acuto con il suo violino / mi ricordo ancora come Leonid Kogan chiedeva a una cantante che aveva una voce Meravigliosa di cantare nel registro acuto per imitare la bellezza della sua voce con il suo violino! Questo era nel 1966 !/ e un cantante celebre come Gibbi non arriva a cantare uno sol naturale acuto in modo decente ?!?! Incredibile ma vero . Saluti cordiali il vecchio

Gobbi Che voce Che attore. Fantastico. Mille Grazie per questo post. Where are the singers with these attributes today. Truly the golden age of this medium. We can only hope it will return. Perhaps sublime performances like these shall spur the talents of today and tomorrow.
