OVER fifty horses led by the hounds trotted through the town centre as Tiverton Foxhounds held their annual Boxing Day meet.
Hundreds gathered to see the spectacle on Saturday, December 26 at Tiverton Pannier Market with Fore Street lined with people to see them on their way.
Member of Parliament for Tiverton and Honiton told those who gathered that hunting is “good for all sorts of things in the countryside” and hoped to bring the repeal of the hunting act to a vote in 2016.
He said: “What we need to do with the hunting act is to make sure we sort out a few Scottish people that we have in Parliament because there is no reason why they should vote on the hunting act for England.
“Once we can be absolutely guaranteed through a system that the Scots cannot vote, then we will bring it onto the floor of the House and we will then win the vote to actually amend the hunting act and then - believe it or not - bring it in line with the Scottish act.
“You can see by the number of people here today it shows how much support there is in in this constituency and in Devon.
“One of these days I want to be actually able to come to you and say we’ve actually done something rather than keep promising you that it will happen in the future.”
Kelvin Thomas, hunt master for the Tiverton Foxhounds added: “I’ve got a huge long list from the Countryside Alliance about how important it is to be here today.
“There are more than 200 mounted packs out today, many foot packs and it’s vital that we keep that going until such a time where we can slightly amend how we operate, but I can assure you that if you keep supporting us, we’ll keep coming back.
“I’d like to thank our supporters for making their way here as always. We will keep this going.”
