In part three, we visited the magical Tivoli Gardens during Christmas! Tivoli Gardens is a magical, enchanting amusement park located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is filled with thrilling rides, beautiful gardens, and charming restaurants and shops. Visitors can experience the excitement of the historic wooden roller coaster, the dizzying heights of the Star Flyer, or the delightful musical performances in the open-air theater. With its colorful lights and festive atmosphere, Tivoli is a must-visit destination for families, couples, and anyone looking to add a touch of whimsy to their trip.

@@colinandmeg You could maybe have walked around the streets of Bakken, but the amusements are closed at this time of year. Since you plan on visiting again during the warmer season, that will give you the chance to visit while it's open. Bakken is located on the border of a forest that might also be worthwhile to hike in, to see many cute deer. Regarding Tivoli though I hope, I do not ruffle your feathers, it is not the 2nd oldest but 3rd. Many Danes also still think Tivoli is the 2nd oldest, but that title belongs to Wurstelprater in Austria. Looking forward to watching your vlogs for your next visit here 👍

Though Tivoli do have ONE first: It was the first thing to be build outside the city ramparts. The lake in Tivoli is actually part of the old moat. And if you look at google Maps, you can see remnants of the city ramparts and moat by following the parks. From Tivoli in the south to the Citadel in the north. Today Tivoli is in the middle of the city, but if you go to City Hall Square, where H.C. Andersens Bouldevard and Vesterbrogade meet up, then you can see a stone pillar. This is where the west gate of the old Copenhagen was, and where they measured the distance to several cities in the country side from (in the direction south and west.). Fun fact: When they build the metro station of Rådhuspladsen, they were also making archaeological digs. This was done, among other things, in part of the old moat. Here they found things that people had lost in the moat over time when i use. The most scary/this-will-make-you-think-item they found was a metal breast plate ... Dating back to the Swedish assault on Copenhagen, February 11th, 1659, where the citizens of Copenhagen (and some Dutch marines) fought of the assault. There must have been an Swedish soldier in that breast plate ... 😕 Items from this dig and others (Though not all, because lack of space ... ^^ ) are on display in the Museum of Copenhagen ... *PANT, PANT, PANT ...* Okay! Historical rant over. Good GRIEF that came out long ... ^^

@@colinandmeg Depends of what you guys like. If you come back in the summer i would recommend Bakken for the kids, Botanical garden, the Zoo, The blue planet, Experimentarium and Kronborg castle, all located around our capital. If youre going to Jutland, ill recommend the original amusement park of LEGO, Legoland. You should also visit Djurs sommerland, ARoS artmuseum, Mønsted limestone mines. If you go to Funen, then visit Egeskov castle which is pretty fun and dont forget to visit Hans Christian Andersens house/museum too. Thanks for the video and merry christmas.

@@colinandmeg One thing could be Kronborg, and old, beautiful castle north of Copenhagen, located in a city called Helsingør. Another thing could be Bakken (or Dyrehavsbakken, as the official name is), as someone else in the comments mentioned. It's an even older amusement park than Tivoli. Back in the days, Tivoli were for the wealthy people, were Bakken were for the common people. But it's definitely worth a visit, and it's right next to a big, beautiful forest. Bakken is located in a city called Klampenborg, about 10 km outside of Copenhagen.

In the summer there are concerts during the week - and specialle Fridays. I have seen Tony Bennet and Lady Gaga among many famous people. It normally an hour concerts - open air in the middle of the park. Beer drinking allowed :)

The oldest theme park is also in Denmark, not far from Copenhagen. It's called BAKKEN. It opened in 1583-

@@colinandmeg Different vibes as Bakken has free entrance and is next to a nature park, and less 'modern' and has older rides. If you go during the day when it's still light out you can go for a stroll at the park ( it's free) .There's a nice paved road that go through it - and you might be lucky to see some deer/other animals.

Hey Regina! I had the same thoughts prior too, but you just get them at the entrance, no need to purchase in advance. Admission and rides are separate passes, both very affordable.

Also it is worth noting that they are closed from new years till mid April and then again for a few weeks in the beginning of October and in the beginning of November, when they are getting ready for the Halloween season and Christmas season respectively ☺️

the only thing bad I can say about Tivoli is that they have changed so many of my childhood memories. it is still magic but the playground with the big fish is gone and the ducks were yellow.

Hey Rasmus! We didn’t think it was expensive at all. The prices in the food hall were higher than average but the entrance and rides were very affordable in our opinion.

In Denmark, when you turn teenager you get ''confirmated'' or ''nonfirmated''. Confirmation is a celebration day where you buy an expensive dress, go to church with others. It means you've stepped in the adult life and that you believe in god. Nonfirmation is just that you don't believe in god, you don't go to church for that. After confirmation, we have something called ''Blå Mandag'' which translates to ''Blue Monday''. That's the day where you go anywhere in Denmark and celebrete your confirmation, but with the ones you got confirmated with, and Tivoli is a very popular place to go on the Blue Monday! Me and my confirmation partners went to Copenhagen and Tivoli. I've been to Tivoli so many times, and it's still my favorite amusement park ever!

@@colinandmeg The Danish national church is protestant Christianity. Many people become confirmated. For a big part of Zealand it’s in grade 8 (14 years old), and for most of Funen and Jutland it’s in grade 7 (13 years old). Though the event is to confirm your faith, I believe most teens only get confirmated because you usually get very big gifts from family and friends, as many won’t give as big gifts if you instead become nonfirmated. There’s a saying here, that most Danes are only ‘culture Christian’, and not truly Christian. They are only part of the religion because Danish and Christian traditions are very mixed together. But for your question, I actually don’t think the confirmation is a protest and tradition, and that it is more of a simply Danish tradition, that is also religious (The Danish national religion has been Christianity for a 1000 years, btw). Traditionally, you would start working outside your home after being confirmated, so you had to live by yourself and earn your own money. But now, kids are still in obligatory school when they are 13/14, so it’s simply a party event, where you eat good food and get a lot of money and other very big gifts.

Tivoli is not meat nor fish! On one side the "Hamburger Dom" is very much better than Tivoli. On the other side Europapark Rust, Holyday Park Haßloch, Phantasialand Brühl, Eurodisney Paris and other Parks are very much better than Tivoli. Tivoli is a Park, where you have to pay, as adult, 145 dkr, Just to enter the Park, Not using an Attraction. Using any Attraction will cost extra Money. I ate some "Bratwürste". If you have ever eat Bratwurst on the Hamburger Dom, those Tivoli Bratwurst is nothing. On the Hamburger Dom every Attraction cost extra, but to enter the Hamburger Dom you have to pay nothing. If you Go to Parks Like Holiday Park Haßloch or Eurodisney Paris, you have to pay a high amount, but you can User every Attraction for free. Tivoli should have to make a decission: When Tivoli will be like Hamburger Dom, then Tivoli should have been a free entry! If Tivoli want to be Like a Holiday-Park or Phantasialand, then Tivoli have to been a high amount of Money, but free use of the Attractions. Tivoli is a Dinosaur. In the 1970th you Had to pay for the Attractions in Holiday-Park Haßloch extra. They learned. Tivoli Had to be learning!
