*I absolutely love this tool!!! The first one was defective and Dewalt replaced **MyBest.Tools** More bulky than the Bosch and Makita corded palm routers I have but worth it. Nice solid base*

I'm used to larger, corded routers ru-vid.comUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

Use the round portion on your fence instead of the flat side. You will get less friction.

Thanks for the post this is great I purchased the DW618b3 looked through my bag of stuff they didn’t send me the 1/2 collet only the 1/4 collet I had to call them. However it’s a great all around router. I have the trim router and wanted something that would except 1/2 router bits too. Thanks for the post always great watching your videos love DEWALT and Powermatic along with Surfprep sanding.

They did they same thing to me. 1/4" yes 1/2" no. Thats why I am watching this video to see if the 1/2 inch collet is stashed somewhere in the packing. Apparently this happens often.

I appreciate the video, and it helped me decide to go with one of these to replace my clapped-out porter cable one-speed combo router. I agree with the comment that the condition of the bit is a major factor in the cut, but there is a more productive way for the commenter to say express that. Thanks for the vid!

BOY ARE YOU EVER RIGHT! I have a 3 1/2 HP Triton router hanging from my router table and that bad boy is just to heavy to ever consider disconnecting. AND THANK YOU! You answered several questions I had without my having to unfold that giant poster sized abomination of an instructions manual.

Great video, thanks for sharing! I think power cable is designed like that if you want to buy the D handle. If you exchange handles you just plug it into the router or into the D handle. By the way, thanks for pointing that locks are metal made. Those might last longer.

Until I read the comments I didn't realize there was a D handle. I will have to look into getting that.

Try adding a sacrificial piece of wood next to it. It will help level off the base and increase your vacuum .

Great that the cord is removable better for storage.wish it had a light though, I have the 616 model which is pretty much the same as the 618, without the speed adjustment and the lock pin for the collett ,I have to use 2 wrenches. I bought the combo kit which came with hose attachment and the micro adjust fence which is sweet, thinking about buying the D handle so I have more control over the power. Thanks for sharing, good vid

Steve, I, too, have a 616 and have a hard time changing bits (only used it twice.) There is no way to use the wrench that came with the router as the nut closes to the motor is way bigger that the provided wrench. I have not located a spindle lock on the tool. Any help would be welcome.

Good honest review. Just waiting for mine to be delivered., Looking forward to it. While I agree about the plug not being universal, still happy it's at least detachable. I ended up getting the guide too. Would certainly have been nice to not have to spend extra $ for that part. Hopefully the guide proves to be worth the $.

I have this router 616 it's a good router except for the power cord which breaks in line right next to the boot because the boot is inflexible it seems like an intentional design because the replacement cord is exactly the same I have gone through three chords so far I never thought the DeWalt Corporation would be guilty of corporate greed but there you have it unintentional design flaw to create Revenue after the sale

No dust collection on the fixed base is fine for me. I'd build a column behind the fence to pull dust through. The fixed base can stay with the router table. :)

I don't know anything about routers (yet) but why didn't you lock the base once you made the plunge? It just seemed that you would get a perfect depth that way.

I just bought this exact kit. What a piece of junk! The motor is fine but everything else is terrible. There was no 1/2 inch collet I had to adjust both the fix and plug base tension latches. Neither one when locked would hold the router in place. The extra base plate that accepts larger bits only fits the fixed base. I will be returning this and sticking with Bosch.

Hi, I just bought one and I am so excited to use it. The only thing is that the "black clip" of the adjustable base doesn't make any pressure against the router so it doesn't come out from the base when you lift it. Is it safe to use anyway? Thanks in advance and great video!

So the router is not what is doing the cutting. Testing a router to "see how it cuts" is asinine. It is the BIT doing the cut. So, it ALL depends on the bit, not the moor spinning it...DUH!!! It would have cut just as well if it were a KMart motor spinning the but...

I'm doing the same, have the one Dewalt in a router table, now going to get another one for the plunger. I have a question if you have the time. I want to take the handles off the router under the table for more room. Do you have any idea how to remove those? I've tried but then again, I ain't that smart.
@TheinternetwoodworkerGPlus
@TheinternetwoodworkerGPlus 3 года назад
I do not have a DeWalt in my router table. I have a Triton in there. To get the handles off it looks like you would probably have to take apart the DeWalt. Be careful taking it apart could possibly void the warranty.

The professional uses safety equipment. That includes gloves. Not all the time. Sometimes, the gloves are not appropriate. I'm not a fan of slivers, so I like to use gloves when they don't get in the way. I spent 25 years working the tools. My knees were shot by the time I turned 30, and eventually the bad knees shaved 5 to 7 years off of my working career. I hear the wind whistling in my ears all during my waking hours. The pounding of a hammer will make an extremely loud noise, especially on a plywood structure. I've got stuff in my eyes so often, including hot flux, that I regret not wearing eye protection often enough, but luckily, the eyes weathered the abuse.

I have an issue with the router I got. I'm NOT experienced with routers or the collet system if you will. I bought a Diablo router bit and couldn't get it into the collet at all. I didn't know if i was not doing something correctly or... maybe they just aren't compatible? Anyhow. I've looked for an explanation online and can't find it. Help me Obiwan. Please!

@@Joesmith-fu4ps I don't disagree, but for a novice who may be taking a big cut the router might get away from them. I usually don't climb cut for majority of waste but maybe on final for a smooth finish dependent on grain and wood species.

Man, you're just looking for things to complain about. I am a professional, and this is an excellent router. Youre not even using it correctly. I dunno man...ditch some of that negativity especiallyif you lack the knowledge. Right out of the gate you're complainingabout the detachable cord. Detachable has tons of benefits INCLUDING replacement. What if it was fixed? I fail to see how you wouldn't need to get a replacement from dewalt if you cut it and it was a fixed cord. Having a removable cord is awesome for a lot of reasons like storage, moving the tool on and out of a table, switching bases, all kinds of stuff. In fact, I'd love if ALL of dewalts tools were detachable. I'm gonna stop now because I've wasted enough time, but if you're reading this, please check out other reviews. This thing is bad ass
