Matthew Tkachuk just pulled a rat move and tried to put his stick in Jonathon Quick's eye during last night's LA Kings vs Florida Panthers game. You can't do that, there needs to be a suspension.
Some needs to cross check him in the face. Take a 10 game suspension for the team. Concuss him and give him 50 stitches. For the honor and glory of the game. 🏒🥅🏒🙏🍻
@@shanecombs1993 Players who want to fight usually agree on doing so. If a player don't feel like dropping the gloves then they don't have to, fighting can be avoided.
@@shanecombs1993 if they want the frustration out and agree to fight, that’s on them. There’s a difference between both dropping the gloves and pushing a stick through someone’s cage
Not the first time he's tried to injure a goalie and gone unpunished. Him smashing his knee down on top of Campbell's head is still fresh in my mind. Really hope the league does something about it because It's obvious the guy wants to hurt other players
And if the league won't do something, eventually anarchy will do it on the field... I just hope the league would have enough balls to throw hard enough punishment for dick moves like this. It's always not good to see retaliations but it will eventually happen unless someone acts on this.
@@brady3491 oh this sounds fun. Could you please explain why you think "goalies deserve it"? "It" in this case refering to being subjected to intentionally dirty/dangerous plays by the opposing team, agreed?
@@ChickenKhorma most privileged premadonnas who can get away with whatever they want while not being able to be even looked at without it being goalie interference, easily the biggest divers in the league, get touched and they might aswell have been shot

A deliberate effort to injure someone like this deserves a significant suspension. This isn't an injury he can inflict that might ONLY end Quick's career (which is bad enough), but would also seriously hurt the man's life even after that. If I was Quick, I might even press charges for aggravated assault. CANNOT be allowed. This is one of the worst infractions I've ever seen.
First-Degree Aggravated Assault - refers to a deliberate act in which the perpetrator used premeditated malice. The perpetrator must have had the intent to cause, or to attempt to cause, serious bodily injury (also “great bodily harm”).
@@mikegrey5663 as easy as it'd be to jump aboard the hate train, you might be correct. He either did it accidentally, or he is an absolute master at this and has practiced so much he can do it whilst not even looking at his stick.
@@mikegrey5663 That was deliberate. There's no way he would have "accidentally" turned his stick, THEN pushed it through the mask at just the right angle.
@@bedbath9056 10 games is almost an 8th of the season. Its a huge hit to the Panthers and thats absolutely the right call. Banning him is crazy. I think even bringing that up just makes people want to defend him and say "its not that bad". But 10 games, easy. That should be the standard for dirty, intentional plays.
@@scottshomo2205 Dude his father was a shit talker. He played a mean game, and had the skill to back up his smack. Matthew is just a shithead who thinks he's better than everyone else.
He took out Scheifele's foot with his skate blade a few years ago. As Paul Maurice described "He went after the back of his leg. Could have cut his Achilles. Could have ended the man's career. It's an absolutely filthy, disgusting hit."
I remember this play and watching it at 0.25% countless times over the following days, and it was very unfortunate how the contact happened but Tkachuk had ZERO control as he was trying to maintain/regain balance at a high speed on his way in. He's done some dirty shit, but he's not Brad Marchand.
It's called 'slew foot.' A Slew Foot in hockey is an action where a player comes from behind an opposing player and trips him using his leg, skate or hockey stick, while, oftentimes, using his upper body, or arms, to further knock the opposing player off-balance. The result of a Slew Foot in hockey is usually a two-minute Minor Penalty, but a five-minute Major Penalty can be called, depending on the severity.
wtf are you talking about, this isn't premeditated act of cowardice on a mans eyeballs. It was opportunistic psych games that happen on a nightly basis. This was the same as tapping pads or numbers on back. Slashing skates is far far worse than this. He with zero power was simply tapping Quick on his mask and the stick tried to get through. The stick did NOT actually hit Quick in his eye which nobody seems to understand. His eye is 95% unreachable and nobody is planning this scenario. Slashing a guys skates is 100% on purpose and sending him down in that manner can ruin his career or at very least his season. His teams season. THIS IS NOT WORSE THAN WHAT HAPPENS ON A NIGHTLY BASIS. I used to respect Canadians but apparently these new hybrid rich travel hockey playing californians have convinced the canadians to become little cowards and to lose all competitive perspective.
I remember during the trade rumors, there was a small chance he was coming to the Blues. I’m glad it didn’t happen, even if he is good, I can’t stand how dirty of a player he is.
I'm a loyal Hockey fan for all teams. This guy Tnumchuk definitely needs to be reprimanded more ways than one. He's been a dirty player since b4 NHL. This is absolutely a dangerous career ending FOUL . Go Stars!
When Tkachuk said he “brings a certain swagger” to the ice, this is what he meant. Cheap shots, trying to take eyes out, big talk, and never once backing it up. He’s in no man’s land of not being tough enough to be a physical threat, and not talented enough to be a true offensive threat.
damaging someone's eye can be very serious. Look up Orlando Brown. His career nearly ended because he took an NFL flag to the eye and got temporarily blinded from it.
@@howardbaxter2514 I remember the Netflix documentary about the Danbury Thrashers and the player who lost an eye from a high stick. It's incredibly dangerous and if it was done maliciously he needs making an example of.
I’ll never forget Tkachuk slamming his knee into the back of Jack Campbell’s head. He then lost his shit and threw a tantrum when Jake Muzzin lightly flipped a puck at him after the next game.
and that's the reason players pull shit like this. They know they can get away with it 99 out of 100 times. Every team needs to bring back an enforcer and shit like this won't happen.
If a Kings player doesn't take a run at Tkachuk next time they play, something is wrong. Whether it be a scrap or an "accidental" hit from behind, they need to do something, you can't let your franchise goalie be nearly blinded and not defend him.
Closest we have to do that is lemeiux and he was fired up but not out that there at that time of the game. I’m sure he will try to do something but probably a even fight that tkachuk might win
Matthew Tkachuk is going to far now. He must be put in place. Crying out loud he have been in the NHL for a few years now and already built up a lot of anger from other players in the league and supporters alike in what some players have needed a long career to mass up! If the NHL actually cares about player's safety, they should make an example of him for this. You play hard, that is expected but it is NEVER okay to try and wreck someone's career. And worse is we talk not just about someone’s sport career, but risks of permanent damages that stands for the rest of his life.
I’m a j. Quick fan and it really angers me that stuff like this happens to goalie. I’m a goalie and I can speak from experience. Suspension should definitely happen.
@@elvisparker4691 I say get back to 90s hockey when players were a lot tougher and even if a stick went in their mask if they had a cut would get it stitched a get back out there or just keep playing. I mean hell I’ve seen a player take a puck to the face and their visor was covered in blood but did they cry about it heck no got the visor cleaned and stitches and kept going
Fighting never stops these incidents from happening. Players don't get 'taught a lesson', although you can go looking for revenge (see Todd Bertuzzi and Steve Moore incident). Todd Bertuzzi shouldn't have been able to play in the NHL again. Look how many fights there were in the 1980s, and yet there were probably more stick incidents then than there are now. Why is that? Doesn't fighting solve those issues? Of course not. It's the culture of the game, the time period it's played in, etc. Of course how the NHL structures the rules of the game has a major difference on what happens.
@@JoelER78 idk man. I think someone like this would stop his bs pretty quick if he had to fight someone like Boogaard. Getting your ass handed to you in front of the world is a big hit to an ego.
His dad torpedoed the latter part of his own career by being a St.Louis Slob, embarrassing himself and chugging around the ice looking for easy targets.
This is why they call him a cheap shot artist. Sometimes it's not super obvious what he's trying to do and you have to confirm it via replay. Absolutely reprehensible behavior that could end someone's career.
@@jimnewton5904 I'll give Brady some credit in that even though he wants to play all the same after the whistle games and stuff, I've never seen him do something as far and away DIRTY as Matt has on several occasions now. Not that that's a particularly high bar to clear, mind you, and it doesn't mean I like him, either, but Brady is at least the more likable of the two.
Damn if people get this upset because stick blade kinda goes in the mask wonder how they would react before there were masks. Also the overhead goalie caught the puck right before stick hit the mask that doesn’t necessarily make it a cheap shot. A
This type of behaviour has become so common against the Top Goalies in the league. Seen similar so many times where folk clearly try to hurt the goalie out of frustration which just isn't right. Especially when many teams don't have enforcers anymore to put them in their place so you see young goalies like Jarry getting crazy penalty minuets for simply protecting themselves by making clear they won't take any s**t
That's not mess someone's career up... that's screw their entire life for the rest of their life. The loss of depth perception could make it so he could never even drive again, or cook, or hell most things. This isn't a rat move, this is endangering someone's life
I expect nothing less... he basically knee jumped onto Jack Campbell last year and hurt him. 100 % intentionally, and the league turned a blind eye (with respect to Quick) ;)
people say quick embellished it. which could be true but cmon imagine if someone pushes a stick right into your eye, making contact with the actual eyeball. its even worse if you arent ready for it because your eye will be wide open.
The video clearly shows the stick brushing up on the cage of the mask. It didn't even make contact with his face, he even stopped the act momentarily then resumed. I'm not buying any of this, not to mention the goalie interfere overturn for a slight nudge is called aggressive play. Go look at the playoffs they have way more contact around the goalies and it counts. Kings fans seem to be full of shit and love to start shit. Quick is absolutely fine and should be fined for the face punch to Tkachuck. He let his anger get to him, Tkachuk is a frustrating player. But to embellish and try to ruin a career is not acceptable either.
Agree. But referees can't see everything, specially that kind of shit. Now that every hockey fans in North America saw this bastard trying to voluntary wound another player, he should be out for at least 20 games, maybe more. With a million dollar less in his bank account at the end of the season, if not 2 millions, well, he might think another fraction of a second before doing that kind of useless shit.
Nailed it. And he never gets called for it. I’m not even a Preds season ticket holder so I don’t see all our home games against Calgary but I’ve been to like 5 in the Tkachuk era and every single game he does some really dirty shit and never gets called. I don’t understand it. Like I really don’t. You have to be subhuman to do the things he does.
My son was a goalie and the number of times I heard parent from the other team yell take out the goalie was disturbing. I saw players run him numerous times without even trying to stop. I saw players head shooting him to try and get him out. He was speared into the ribs several times. Pucks were shot at him from behind after the whistle that he wasn’t expecting. He ended up with a fractured vertebrae when he was slammed into a post and the puck was nowhere near him. He had the attention of 2 NHL goalie coaches for his talent. Hockey is a very rough sport but intentional damage should not be part of the game.
My favorite tkachuk highlight reel is the one where Zack Kassian beats the ever loving crap out of him. It's a shame he chooses to play this way; he has enough talent that stuff like this is totally unnecessary. I do hope Kharma pays hiim a visit soon.
@@mr.watts6927 Kassian rag dolled him like a terrier with a rat and then Tkachuk turtled like he always does. He’s such a little coward. Saying anything else happened is just foolish because it’s on video.
Hockey seriously has a problem with dirty plays. It’s almost bred within the sport to use your stick as a weapon against your opponents but some players take it to a next level and this is a great example
This and many other similar instances ( including things like Brodeur and Avery stick incident ) , that have zero place in professional sports , are part of the reason I've lost interest in pro sports , not just hockey . You framed it exactly Eck , the lack of respect is incredible .
I'm sorry but I think the Avery thing was ok if you want to turn your back on the guys firing 90 to 100 + miles an hr at your spine I say it's your body just don't touch the goalie.
And he was suspended for 2 games. His whole argument was that he didn't use force while doing it, which the NHL agreed. So even though he's a repeat offender and multiple suspensions, the NHL openly said because he didn't use force while doing it, the suspension is only 2 games.
It used to be if you mess with our goalie or one of our top guys you send an enforcer out. He’d go after the guy that did the deed. If that team went after your goalie or top guys again, then you went after their goalie and top guys. Goalies don’t want to be made a target so they get mad at their teammates
The addition of Tkachuk and Paul Maurice, along with the subtraction of Huberdeau, Weegar and Brunette/Quenneville, seems to have brought the Panthers down a few pegs this year.
Does anyone know if this content is able to be monetized? Since it is from a tv broadcast does he have to get specific rights from the company or if u just give credit u are fine? Someone please clear up my confusion.
As a Jets fan I am so glad he's out of our conference and we don't have to deal with this goon as much. This is literally the one thing you could do and if someone took a baseball swing in your face as a retaliation I would say 2 minutes in the box is enough.
As a Calgary fan, I can tell you we miss him a shit ton rn. Our team is an absolute mess and there's no impact from our new signings. Yeah he played like a rat, but was skilled asf when it came offensively.
I like brad Marchand though. He has calmed down a bit over the years and he is actually really funny to watch. This move is just a dirty play and should be a many game suspension
I really don't think Tkachuk will be a Cooke Wilson or Marchand maybe a Hall or Doughty and maybe on the nhl's most hated players Also Tkachuk should still be suspended for what he did.
Marchand has done some very controversial things, this however is one of the dirtiest things imaginable, he litterally tries to put his stick in someones eye on purpose, this should be 20 games minimum. I’ve never had any problem with this kid before and i think he is a very very good player. This is not okay by any means though. It would have been better if he slashed him with all his power on the back of the leg than going for an eye.
I was at my local music store and I saw an album by no other than the RATTHEW TKACHUK! Here was the tracklist: 1. I’m A Fraud 2. Where are the Fans? (ft. Panthers) 3. Rats (ft. Brad Marchand) 4. Dirty Player (ft. Brady) 5. Regular Season Merchant 6. No rings (ft. Flames)
Good call fella! And I'm not surprised by that guy doing dodgey stuff like that, he's always been a rat... 4th lines all through the league should be ready to roll on this guy....
At my age, it’s usually real easy to ignore some strangers comment that should mean nothing to me. But you got me on a good day. I rarely comment on anything (I have zero social media accounts and somehow still live a happy life; can you imagine?) Love hockey and really like Eck’s videos. So I’ll end this **** with a **** you but have a nice day.
Tkachuk is one of the few players in the league I could see intentionally ruining someone’s career just to get a bit of an advantage in a game. Like I legitimately won’t be surprised if at some point down the line he does actually take a players eye out or something along those lines with cheap shit like this.

Need to send a real message. 10 game suspension w/o pay and a public apology. Fines do not hurt these guys or the teams anymore. Remove the player and public humiliation via a nationally televised Game during the Televised intermission. The player has no shame for his actions so why can't we put him to shame. Kids need discipline.
I remember when I was in Grade 2 and this kid from school threw a rock at me and hit me in the head causing gash, blood and stitches. Want to know what the other parent did? He brought his son over to our house to apologize to me and mom. Then right in front of us the father pulled his kids bare ass out and gave him the belt. That kid never bothered me or anyone else again.
At first I thought that it wasn't a deliberate eye jab and just a head poke (still bad) but then when you watch the slow-mo replay you can see Tkachuk purposefully rotate the stick so that the toe goes up and in.
a year suspension with contract suspension as well...a second time is jail time, no screwing around, if people acted like this off they ice they would be in jail
I’ve always said, M.Tkachuk and Brad Marchand both do not deserve to be in the NHL. I felt the same about numb-nuts Chris Pronger too. They benefit from hurting other players and yet, they are still allowed to play… super cool.
