Literally the first thing I thought about when they started talking about draft busts was if they were gonna bring up Luc Bourdon. Thank god Steve was there to quickly clear it up.
On the downside pretty sure Huberdeau and Weegar are UFA’s so the only reason I could see it not being a win is if they can’t resign them and they walk. But that’s a conversation for the middle of the season
Nice to see 'Too Many Men' t-shirt - Dangle. Big question does Producer Drew have one. Love to see you supporting Kadri's Foundation. Every Avs fan probably has one too, along with the Stanley Cup Champions ones.
Luc Bourdon is such an unfortunate story and I hate how everyone makes it sound like he’s a bust. Was a legend on team Canada in the world juniors and I vividly remember watching his game tying goal against the Americans back in 07. Thank you Steve for clearing that up.
My trade proposal is Tkachuk to the Panthers for noted Alan Walsh client Johnathan Huberdeau, Mackenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt and a conditional 2025 1st round pick. Call me crazy, but it just seems to make sense to me.
nono i agree with steve i think the 2012 draft has some players. Teuvo Teravainen, Adam Pelech, Frederik Andersen , Jaccob Slavin and Connor Hellebuyck where all drafted in that draft to name a few and in a redraft you could argue that those guys could all have gone top 5. It was a really weak draft but a redraft now would be extremely interesting
Yeah it really was. Crazy to think that year had Anderson, Vasilevskiy, Hellebuck & Murray. It really was the year of the goalies that none of us knew about lol. But yeah that 1st round was a really bad drafting just in general, most of those 1st rounders didn't turn out half as good as expected and the like 4 or 5 players that did went way too low in the draft. Hindsights crazy but it's mindblowing that Vasey was drafted 19th overall by the lightning looking back on it. What a steal.
Can't wait for their next podcast on the FLEECING that the Flames did to the Panthers on the Tkachuk trade...No one in hockey would've expected Huberdeau to move......
That and the fact it's not just a staight up Tkachuk for Huberdeau trade is what makes this such a head scratcher. I'm still trying to figure out how the Flames managed that + 2 extra players and a 1st rounder.
@@Asch519 With Huberdeau's contract (which in itself is too good at the moment) expiring in a year I would've understood a pick and that prospect... but a player of Weegar's caliber? A head scratcher for sure. Might be something else in a year of course. Either way.
God damn Florida got fleeced in this trade. As a leafs fan im ecstatic about this. Personally, I think Florida got worse with this trade and gave up a 1st rounder. Wow!
Make the Prez trophy worth 23 million dollars for the players based on games played, including those traded or inured. For example, if you played all 82 games for the winning team that is one million for you. If you played 10 games for them before being sent back to the minors or being traded you would get one million divided by 82 for a game rate and then times it by your 10 games. That way no matter your role on a potential Prez trophy team you are rewarded for your part in that incredible season by the team.
As an American hockey fan, I am embarrassed right with you. Unfortunately, it happens to be occuring under Canada and hockey's name. Even more unfortunately, it goes across borders and across sports as a culture. Football, baseball, basketball, even gymnastics all share this toxic culture. I think (and this should be obvious) that complete transparecy at every level is a must. Don't give these "people" any place to hide. Its going to take a while, but it can be done...
Totally agree, imagine how greatly these kids lives have been changed forever. Those responsible for these heinous crimes and those that aided in the coverup, no matter who it is must be held accountable and severely punished. Sick!
If you’re a hockey, or any sport, executive and your secretary says “Rick Westhead is on line 3” do you just start swearing and swearing uncontrollably?
I love steves reaction when Jesse mentioned the Knights as a place Tkachuk would sign with that is absolutely beautiful especially the get a calculator
I remember the day Luc Bourdon passed like it was yesterday, we were season tickets holders for the Manitoba moose right on the glass and I can still see clear in my mind Luc lined up for a face off right infront of me. So sad
@@MikeRC21 "Ka-rade" if the "Tka" is pronounced the same way as it is in Tkachuk. That's why I though "Tkachrade" was a better pun. Great show regardless
You guys need to get paid, I get it. I will, however, say thank you for playing the same recorded ads in every episode so I can easily skip them by watching for the frame where your t-shirts change back.
Vaguely remember a few years ago an entertainment chat show host saying something along the lines of "Every hockey player I've ever met was a jerk." Caused a brouhaha at the time of course. Looking back at it now, is it still a hyperbolic gross generalization? Certainly but maybe there's an ounce of truth to it, certainly more than a lot of people would like to admit.
As hard as it is to talk about the subject it is awesome to see you guys handle the sexual assault cases within the NHL Thank you for bringing it to light By talking about it we can change the culture This channel rocks
The Canucks I felt have been good at drafting of late, just incredibly bad at cap and asset management. Hughes at 7 in 2018, Pettersson at 5 in 2017, Boeser at 23rd in 2015, they definitely haven’t been consistent but they could have done much worse
“Good at drafting” *remembers Juolevi over Tkachuk.* Benning was awful at drafting too, when he did it cause he kept trading all the picks. Canucks fans just try to find a tiny silver lining or bright side so the 8 years of Benning weren’t a complete waste. They were.
I’ll say it, this has been the best, most exciting, for league changing offseason in the last 25 years no doubt! 3, 100 point players on the move. The east became deeper, and very few teams got worse in my opinion. Devils improved, blue jackets improved, Oilers improved, Detroit improved, the flames lost there two best players who were 2 of the best in the NHL last year and are still a very good playoff team. Next. Season. Will. Be. Amazing. Cannot wait
I could see Yzerman trading Filip Zadina in a package to the Coyotes for Victor Soderstrom. It looked like Yzerman had interest during the draft with the Coyotes.
I love it when Steve rants "Vegas Nights get a calculator." You know Steve, school and training camp starts in September. You could buy the team a calculator using a back to school sale.
So I know the tkachuk deal has already been done but here is what I would have proposed as a trade if I was Dubas (not that I think Treliving takes this offer). To Toronto: Matt Tkachuk Chris Tanev picks to balance as required To Calgary: William Nylander Alex Kerfoot Jake Muzzin picks to balance as required Note I also don't think that Muzzin waives his no move to go to Calgary, but hey this is fantasyland. Dubas only makes a trade for tkachuk if it helps him solve another problem: the log-jam on the left side of his defense and missing talent on the right. Tanev for Muzzin accomplishes this and saves the leafs about 1 mil, both expire in 2 years and both are similar-ish in age. Kerfoot + Nylander is effectively the return for tkachuk, plus there is some give and take in the picks. This alleviates the cap crunch in this year for the leafs too and leaves them enough room to sign Sandin comfortably and also makes moving on from Holl much easier. This would become pretty iffy for the cap once tkachuk's extension kicked in but if the leafs don't win a round that probably isn't Dubas' problem anyways.
Just a heads up, transitioning AHL franchises from Oklahoma City to Bakersfield 15-16 was the rookie season for that AHL franchise. It was an ECHL team before that year, k. And also, if you mention Yakupov, you have to mention no AHL time spent, and on the other side of that argument, is Akim Alieu who had played in Bakersfield in ECHL, and chooses to run to KHL instead of waiting around for AHL transition.
Marner for Tkachuk is not so wild. Tkachuk scored 40 goals and got a 104 points. At 8 years at $9 million that's $1.9 million in cap savings that can be used on depth. And the Leafs could use a firecracker in their top 6.
I'd like a three way deal between the islanders, blues, and flames. Islanders send beavillier, mayfield, and a first to the blues for tarasenko. This makes cap room and gives the blues more assets so they can afford to send their first round and a few of their own assets to the flames for tkachuk. Triple win
Steve misunderstood the Tkachuk list by Rutherford - it's teams that Tkachuk are rumoured to want to play for - NSH, FLA, VGK, STL. STL or tax friendly US states.
As a Habs fan, I obviously love to hate the Leafs, even more than the Bruins but I don’t miss one of your podcasts which is a testimony of how good it is. Keep up your good work Slafkovsky-Suzuki-Caufield for 10 years Go Habs Go 😉
Nylander, muzzin, 2 nd rounder for Tkachuk on a 9x 8 deal! That would solve toughness, consistency, and we would be able to sign sandin and he could take muzz’s spot and grow!
