why put an American engine into an otherwise reliable vehicle... whtas wrong with another toyota engine, youve just ruined the vehicle, theres a reason why japanese cars are rated the most reliable
I'm a huge 60-series fan and love these vids! They not only showcase a dream car for me but they're really fun to watch as well. Thanks for posting and keep 'em coming!
Very cool! Would love a more in depth video on the reasoning behind the 140, if you do more in the future. Would love to get more granular on what your using from each version and why.
I’ve had two a diesel in the DR in 1985 with ambulance doors and fold down seats in the back, and a gas one in 2001 in Miami. I loved them both. Had to leave one and the wife sold the other one from under me. I had a Scout and a FJ so there were too many trucks in the driveway.
I really don't get it. These rims, as many of his other older rims, are so butt ugly I can't imagine anybody wanting them. The tires are too big for the body and worst of all the rear tires aren't even centered in the rear wheel wells. What is with that??? As usual the build minus the above mentioned comments, the choice of materials and execution are flawless. Kudos to your crew and suppliers!
Put a Tacoma V8 in there instead. It'll cost a little more but if you can afford one of these in the first place, then the extra cost wont be that big of a deal. You get a more authentic truck for your money.
super SUV is a legendary car and is worthy of respect because it has shown itself perfectly and will break any new generation of jeeps well if so I can say for new models of jeeps and likes unambiguously
Another great build Jonathan! Can't get enough of these vintage cars mixed with your in depth review. Something relaxing seeing these cars come to life, great shots, and your voice/overview takes us to auto heaven.
Will you be selling the spare tire relocation brackets? I could use one on my '84 60. I've been putting off buying a rear bumper as I don't want to add that much weight.
All you need is a video of the vehicle from beginning to end. The man's face does not have to be reflected. Voice is enough. I also need subtitles. In Japanese please.
@@ICON4x4Design wow! Awesome FJ60 you built. Amazing craftsmanship and engineering. I’m busy restoring a ‘84 FJ60 in South Africa. Do you mind sharing the paint colour? Much appreciated
I have a super clean 1998 Chevy k1500, 5.7 , 4l60e, 243t case, 3:73. I want to do this! Lt5,10l90e, 205,gear venders/ under drive, dana 70 w/ locker rear, dana 60 w/ locker. That's all!! Can you do it? just sayin
Well this will be my new favorite FJ60. I was fascinated by the work, great idea that chassis and suspension transplant. Beautiful color. In my FJ80, we haven't got the tachometer to read the rpms of the LS3 :(. It would be amazing to have you close. I hope one day I can have an ICON FJ80. Congratulations!
Another beautiful creation! But... since you brought up the console🙄 yes, they make a great product, yes, it functions very well, LEGO is a great.....your in L.A. Catia, NX, Solid works, 3D printing or carbon fiber wrap it in matching material... everything is at your disposal there. I’m in Detroit same stuff here but our roads and weather suck.... (I’ve been in the business...sigh.. 38yrs studio design engineer🙄 lol)
That is one beautiful resto for a 85 FJ60. I hope I win the lottery soon so I can give you a chunk of money to custom build the same model for a different usage, a bit of crawling, mudslinging, wilderness camping, fishing and daily driving. I wouldn't be asking for a pretty truck, moreover a truck that can handle Moab. The reputation of Icon "quality build", so throwing a chunk of money would be a good investment.
You and your team do great work Mr. Ward. Not to hate but these are absolutely very over built and are way too nice to be offroaded. Not to mention some builds do not even have the original power plant (yeah I know the stock engine is slow). You guys turn a rougly 8 grand truck (mine is about 7k but I dont live in the US) into a 100k+ truck. No hate just I think it is too much to be done to a truck like this. Regards from the Middle east.
You had me until you said LS motor. I'm sick of people taking the easy way and throwing in an LS motor in everything, my grandmother can do an LS swap. Put a tundra V8 in this ....that will show your skill level and be way more appropriate for this land cruiser
These toyotas you do are so gorgeous. I just wish so bad you could do them with a modern toyota 5.7V8. That LS under the hood i would love in almost anything else(including a ford even lol) just not a toyota. Anyhoo amazing work nonetheless
Been a big fan of your work for years now and also happen to be fan of the 100 series land cruiser(105 specifically). I know you've mentioned before that you were never really a fan of the model. Where in your opinion were it's weaknesses, and how would Icon/TLC make it better.
Beautiful. I've dreamed about owning an FJ62 for at least 20 years. Hopefully I'll be able to contact y'all some time in the near future and discuss plans for a 140-Style build. Regarding your builds: I'm interested in your reasons for choosing air-lockers over other options, such as Torsen differentials, mechanical lockers, electronic lockers, etc. Is it generally based on customer preference? I imagine Torsen differentials would require less parts and installation time, and be easier for some customers to operate (no compressor or controls of any kind, besides the brake pedal). As I understand it, all the US Military HMMWVs are equipped with Torsen differentials. Also, have you considered using Toyota's 3UR-FE engine? Although not entirely efficient, it has proven to be incredibly reliable and able to take quite a bit of abuse (not to be confused with "neglect"). Thank you for the video and the outstanding, high-quality work y'all do. The world needs more designers and manufacturers to return their focus to dependable quality, rather than the disposable/replaceable cheap "quantity" we're plagued with now. Publicly explaining the reasons for you attention to detail and quality in these videos surely helps promote that idea. It all comes down to the consumers, right? Now we just need Toyota to start selling 70-series Land Cruisers (76, specifically) here in America. They'd give Jeep a run for its money. The 70s and their relative simplicity would be like a blank canvas for y'all; and, being new, you wouldn't have to deal with the problems that come with 30-40 year old vehicles. Maybe you can mention that to ol' Akio next time you see him, haha. Sorry for the long comment. Cheers!
My absolute favorite SUV body style. It doesn’t hurt that my mom dated a guy when I was little that had one and exposed me to how badass they are. The only thing they are missing is a change in drivetrain both for power and gearing if you want to be able to drive comfortably on the highway and also be able to go up into the mountains without going slooooow.
Very nice! You've thought of everything to perfect this legendary truck, make it more modern, reliable and drivable, yet still totally cool looking. Makes me miss my old 1984 BJ60, though this one is in a totally different league.
@@ICON4x4Design Okay, the current engine in there would be also superior to the 4bt ( I know there will be some mods for the weight)? Thank you for your response.
