I was torn between which one to pick but I picked up a used 22 5.0 DC rtr minus the radio and battery as the price was right. Based on other research a lot of people pick Team Associated primarily for the parts but I figure both are close just like you mentioned in the video. Great breakdown 👍🏼

As always super nice head to head . The last time I went to the track I don't remember seeing a lot of TLR 5.0 , the best racers at my track are running ultra dialed B6.1D . Hope to see good drivers getting good setups for of the TLR 22 5.0. Keep up the good work .
@RazorRC
@RazorRC 5 лет назад
thanks! yeah, the Associated stuff has been around a long time and there are a lot of drivers out there with good information and setup. It's a little harder to drive TLR because there's less of a support system in place.

In my opinion the TLR is a more consistent car all around. Much easier to drive fast, which is what matters to most weekend racers.

Thinking about getting back into RC been away forever. Bought the reflex 14t to see if I want to get bigger stuff. Love reading your tips on the reflex on rc tech. If I was buying a 10th scale it would always be associated. Started with the RC10 for me and still have that brand loyalty

In 2022 I have the new 22-5.0 elite and the b6.3D . On loose dirt the 22-5.0 out of the box, it just beat the associated. Not by much but between a couple drivers swapping the transmitter and cranking laps. Everyone agrees the Losi was just faster and more stable when going fast.

Try running a 36g or 43g weight under the battery in the b6.1. It really helps the car out. As for the front arms, you really should try and work with the gull wing. For med bite and up, they are the way to go. Great comparison!

Excellent comparison. The harder to access rear diff on the TLR 22 5.0 might sway me away. The 22 5.0 DC ELITE had me excited as you get excellent hop-ups in that kit, but overall I'm trying to compare and choose between a Yokomo YZ2 DTM3, AE B6.1DL and a TLR 22 5.0 ELITE.

Can never really go wrong with Associated, though the B6.1 has been out for 18 months, so a new one is likely on the horizon.

Good job on the review ya can’t lose either way! But in my opinion why don’t they all come with wheels & tires when we’re spending this kinda money and while I’m at it why hasn’t Tekno have a horse in this race imo their 4wd buggy is the one to beat just seems like to me that they’re leaving some money on the table by not having a 2wd buggy on the market....But what do I know!!

The TLR 5.0 AC is 269 right now. Is it the best buy? Or are they about to release an update and that's why it's so cheap? I literally cannot decide between the two (5.0 / B62 used or B63 new)
@jasonhurdlow6607
@jasonhurdlow6607 3 года назад
Would love to buy one of these to be able to drive/race with my son, and if the price was the total package I probably would, but considering you have to spend more than the cost of the kit for all the 'missing' bits (electronics, etc.. even wheels?!?.) you end up needing like $800 just to get started. It seems to me that a bag full of mostly plastic parts shouldn't cost anywhere near the $320+ asking price.

@gatorage850
@gatorage850 2 года назад
this is going to sound silly but stock racing has fewer rules, normally just the motor needs to be stock and fits in the class. spec (specification) racing could have motor, chassis, tire, body, battery, etc... most of the time it's just a spec motor and some type of tire rule, but a true spec class everyone is driving the same car with the same equipment.

Have you tried changing the mud guards on your tlr? I'll bet your version of the 5.0 comes with the standard or soft mud guards. Try getting the Team Losi Racing 22 5.0 Mud Guard Set w/Fan Mount (Stiffezel) Pt# TLR231075 and the Team Losi Racing 22 5.0 Waterfall & Gear Shield Set (Stiffezel) Pt# TLR231077... swapping these two items will cost you under $20 and will really connect the front and rear of the car. Since you filmed this video, TLR has come out with the Team Losi Racing 22 5.0 VHA Conversion Pt# TLR334069... VHA (variable height adjustment). It not only gives you multiple roll canter adjustments, but 4 positions for the CV pin in the outdrive. I'm not trying to lecture or show you up. And some of the parts I listed may not have been available when you filmed this video. You have a great channel and you did a very nice job comparing the two buggies! I wish more RC RU-vidrs would do comparisons like this... but it's very expensive having to buy and build multiple competing vehicles, and the results are largely subjective. Thanks for creating excellent content!
@RazorRC

Thanks! I ran the SZL mudguards for a while. Felt very direct, but it also felt like it lost too much chassis flex and a little bit of traction. I've sold the buggy since though since my track went to carpet and I didn't feel like trying to convert it.

I do! If I’m honest I only raced it at my local track here in Mass a few times. Maybe 5. The track is a little too far away from my house to have it be a realistic segment of the hobby for me though. That being said, it was a great first kit to build and it really helped in those early stages in covid to take up Some time and calm the mind Since then I’ve purchased a felony and just now got a vanquish kit for Christmas! 😳 I think bashing and crawling are more my speed.

Imo losi has always been a more forgiving platform, even back to the lx1, but associated has always been faster when the chassis is dialed... seems you have more precise control over buggy. Then when losi screwed everyone over with all the mini cars,( mini late model, the slider sprint) so i moved away from them.

Is there anything more dumb than a "spec racer" class? Or at least a spec racer class set up as it currently is. Just another stupid class that kills the hobby. Cars look great. It is getting a little depressing on how similar the cars are becoming though. Both 2WD and 4WD buggies look like you could use parts from one manufacturer on another. Now return off road racing to off road tracks and lets see who is the best. Changing back to off road tracks might bring some innovation back.

Can't stand how tlr went to "composite material" / plastic shock caps on their new 5.0 buggy kits. I mean what's up tlr? Huh supposed to be moving forward not backwards. And don't tell me that plastic crap is better than aluminum plus plastic looks cheaper. TLR is the absolute best imho though I am only 2 and half years into hobby but I own my own 3.0 SR with Orion ultimate stock 17.5 running 69x31 gearing & while pushing 60° timing I'll hit 45 m.p.h. no probs. Only using 2 practice packs...1 at a time course..nano tech's ultimate 90c packs and I have to say their quality packs compared to the likes of say my 1:8 scale Gens Ace RS series 100c packs which I run 2 in series config. with castle's 6.5mm gold bullets with a monster of a audio grade Panasonic self made cap pack...6 total wrapped in quality shrink wrapping...apologize for forgetting caps spec's at the moment...all wired into mamba monster x esc 1:8 scale sensored castle 1515 brushless motor. On 6s with stock 45 t spur I believe with nothing but Robinson Racing 23 t pinion on my SRC Roadcrushers the 9 pound fully dressed 1:8 scale truggy will & very quickly hit top speeds of 135 m.p.h. Hey...not too shabby for a hobby king team basher sabertooth truggy that was built by a newbie. Oh yeah gotta add the savox 1270tg powerhouse servo..man its fast most importantly...accurate..quite..durable..ect. I notice anything 1256 and lower are noisy bit slow not so accurate and very noisy on the savox. Say 1268 and higher is a whole new quality of servo. Sorry to drift off on the comment section their.
