I remember watching TNMT as a kid and Leo stated Mikey was the best out of all of them. He's just unfocused.

He became disciplined like Leo, strong like raph, and clever like donnie. However Mikey's carefree attitude is what made him who he was. So in a way mikey kind of died with his brothers.

Not gonna lie the page where Michaelangelo is with his brothers, Splinter, and Casey is a real tear-jerker.

I remember once hearing about the reason for all the turtles weapons; Ralph had the sais, a defensive weapon to show that he couldn’t always brute force his problems (something like that), Donnie had his Bo staff to show that he couldn’t always rely on technology (something like that lol), Leo had the swords to help him accept that one day he would have to take a life, and Mikey had the nunchucks because he was the most skilled and nunchucks required the most focus to master

Isn’t it somewhat well known that Mikey would’ve been a beast had he taken things seriously?

There was an episode of the 2003 series called Same as it Never Was that delved into this character. It was one of the saddest episodes of the whole show.

In the 03 series there is a episode that they watch the memories of utrom in feudal Japan. Mikey goes to a training samurai and says " it is me Michelangelo the last ronin " and precedes to act like he was fighting the samurai

i remember one episode when miky literally doged all the atacks of his sensei just because he was listening to music from "turtle pods"

It makes sense “the little brother” who they all took care off and looked up to and learned from his brothers the most

The fact that Mikey was the one to survive his brothers is tragic in ways that challenge the parameters of the word. Mikey is the "little brother" of the group. He looks to Raphael for his strength when he's weak, he looks to Donatello for wisdom when he's confused, he looks to Leonardo for direction when he's lost. To lose those that he looked up to, and then being forced to take on their collective burdens breaks him. And the particular ways in which it breaks him are truly sad, he loses his jovial spirit, his freedom of mind. He loses who his brothers looked to for joy and peace. He's always happy, always weightless and free. It shows in his fighting style, something Splinter took note of early on in regards to Mikey's skill potential due to his ability to relax his mind and flow. As the Last Ronin, he can no longer afford to fight like someone who has help, so even the joyful spirit of his fighting style is bastardized as he's forced to augment it to compensate for a lack of any fighting companions. His identity is stolen from him, his purpose and place within a family, and his artform is robbed of its freedom. And the city doesn't care, it still needs him.

I never regret mikey being my fav turtle since day 1, his goofiness and natural talent brings out a lot from his character

You take the most lighthearted and carefree brother, and have him suffer extreme loss and tragedy. Of course that makes for a great story.

I still remember how in the 2003 series, there was an episode where one of the turtles went to the future (I think it was Donatello) and he finds Mikey, bursting out of a closed container and taking out a group of bad guys. The thing is, Mikey was the only one still alive, and he only had one arm. This really struck me as a kid, and made me take Mikey more seriously. He was a beast

Everytime I see him carrying and using his brothers' weapons I couldn't help but to cry a little😭

In the nikolodan tv series he was even skilled to even block splinters hits while he was unaware not listening not looking and not paying attention but just dancing and everyone in the sewer were flabbergastered by his skill of being in the mood

Don't forget that - there was this one episode where Michelangelo was dodging Splinter's hits while listening to music and with his eyes closed as well. That proves Mikey has the *DAWG* in him all along. 🔱

One quote that stuck with me in the Last Ronin story was Mikey arguing with the ghosts of his brothers and he said “I fought in every battle you ever had! Even the ones you started!”

After his brothers died, Mikey blamed himself and he’s the reason why his brothers died and because of his immaturity, he suffered depression and became the last ronin, he’s gotten stronger now, trained hard, become and combination of his 3 brothers, and now he uses his brother’s weapons, gotten the personality of his 3 brothers, and now he’s gonna avenge his family and find the person who killed them. Now again, he’s the Last Ronin.

That's the point of Mikey. He's the heart of the family. It's said frequently he is bar none the most skilled of the four, he just has a soft heart and prefers to be free rather than disciplined.

Mikey was always most natural talented turtle. With his brothers he didn't need to be all those things. But losing his brothers would force him to be the best one.

Everyone should've already known that Mikey was the strongest. Ralph was the aggressor, Donnie was calculated, Leo went by the book, and Mikey was the genius (even though he was so humble that not many thought much of him). Even as a kid, seeing him doing those acrobatics during combat while the others were just struggling, made me realize he was quite literally the goat. My favorite character in the series. No bias, just carried a lot of the episodes.

The nunchucks are the most difficult to master, Mikey also has a sense of humor unlike the other three which is often associated with being witty. Most of the time we cast him a side because he doesn’t take things seriously, slightly annoying, and he’s loud.

Splinter always saw that Mickey was the most talented and Skilled, it was his personality that hold him back

Mikey had the most potential out of all of them so it makes sense he can master all the other weapons

I dig it. Met the artist and he was super friendly to my daughter even signed some of his art for her making this comic that much better.

God, thinking of Mikey, the most kind and happy-go-lucky character, having to turn dark like that... it makes my heart hurt, since Mikey always held a special place in heart (Leo is my favorite but...), and it reminds me of someone I know who has gone through hell for the last year, who has undergone a somewhat similar transformation. Sad...

Michaelangelo has highest raw potential out of all the 4 Brothers. He puts his mind to it he could be badass. Last Ronin he was just forced into it.

Imagine if Leo managed to survive but Mikey didn't know and they came to blows as Mikey believed that it was just another one of his hallucinations. That's a fight I'd love to see.

He's the only one with the creativity to conjure the skills of the rest. Him with Raph's aggression and Don's smarts and Leo's leadership is unreal

When I was first reading the last ronin I was wondering who they were and then I immediately said “Oh please not Mikey, not my boy” I was in for the biggest shock ever afterwards

Mikey even acquired their traits (Ralph's brawn, Leo's Calm and Donny's brain) whilst sacrificing his own nature. In a poetic way, the one who truly died was Mikey himself.

It actually makes sense based on the personalities between the turtles that it would be Mikey. Mikey is the most chill , care free, least focused, and most importantly the happiest out of the group. the death of his brothers broke him into something he never was. He's now the exact opposite and turned him into a straight savage.

He was pulling the matrix with headphones on with no care in the world. He been the best, his kindness is his pro and cons.

That’s just so heartbreaking. The goofball who just wants to make jokes and play with his brothers. He loses everything and becomes so hardened. I think a lot of us can relate to that the older we get.

I think it's been confirmed that mikey is the most talented turtle of the series.

That story turned my childhood upsidedown. I loved it, it hit so good.

It actually hurt my heart a bit to read the Last Ronin segment. Mikey was always the heart of the group. The lovable goofball who could make friends with almost anybody. For him to turn into an understandably angry person who only sought revenge made me feel so bad for him. Good storytelling though and the ending is bittersweet

Mikey is on par with his brothers while being witty, relaxed, and unfocused. When you take those away it is evident he is the best turtle.

I always said Michaelangelo was the best. The fact that he could pull that shit off and still be cheerful and laid back proves that he has more to give. It just took something exceptionally traumatic to make him give it his all.

It's always been known that despite being the youngest and smallest of the turtles, mikey had the most "potential". It makes perfect sense that he is the last ronin.

I think Mikey is actually the most emotionally vulnerable of the Turtles, which is why he uses humor as a defense mechanism.

I believe Splinter has said that Michelangelo has the most potential out of all the Turtles, so seeing Mikey finally live up to that potential to avenge his brothers, father, everyone else is amazing

What I like about Mikey being the last is that it ties into the Turtles’ weapons that Splinter assigned them and the lessons they learned from them. ~ Leonardo is the one in charge, so his weapon is the only one designed to kill. However, he needs to keep himself constantly controlled so that he doesn’t kill anybody by mistake. ~ Raph is by far the most aggressive to a fault, so he was given Sai - a *defensive* weapon, designed to trap and control the weapons of others. ~ Donatello’s obsession with technology goes so far as to become a personality flaw, so in order to teach him that simplicity can be just as effective and beautiful in its own way, his weapon is literally just a big stick. ~ Mikey’s ADHD means he struggles to keep his focus on one thing for long stretches of time (much like myself). As such, he was given the hardest weapon to learn and use, as it would force him to get used to focussing on one thing. Not only did Mikey’s lesson end up being the most important, but he learned the most from it.

I remember someone posting a video with this take. “Leo was given katana’s to teach him restraint to not kill despite having the tool. Raph was given sai’s because they were a defensive weapon to counter his anger. Donny was give a simple wooden stick as a counter balance to his love and use of technology. Mikey was given nunchaku to teach him to focus.” In terms of Mikey, think about how strong and gifted he had to be that a pair of nunchaku were given as his main weapon to force him to focus. He was always strong. He was just a joyous spirit. Until he lost it all.

They original comics where super dark from what I hear (Clunk the cat was hit by a car of all things 😢). But Mikey being the last survivor makes sense (next to Leo) being he could be the best fighter in terms of raw skill it makes sense his brothers faught the hardest to protect him at the cost of their own lives. No doubt the trauma and experience would mold him into a fantastic warrior in one of the most heartbreaking storylines to ever exist.

Some people like to overlook the fact Mikey masters one of the hardest weapons AND uses it doubled. Apparently the nunchucks are to teach him focused because he's supposed to have that little scatterbrained touch

They allwyas hinted at Splinter wanting Mikey to be able to take care of himself for something big in the future.......that's the reason he was my favorite turtle since I found the series because he was so different but seemed to do the most.

This is more in line with the original tmnt line and its fitting cause its the first time both original creators have been involved at the same time in decades.

I think the creator wanted to prove that Michaelangelo who was full of humor could quickly change when everything he cared for was taken away from him. Anything like that could change a person or another living creature.

I always suspected Mike would've been the most dangerous. Because the only thing that kept him below his bothers was his lack of focus, which thats exactly why Master Splinter gave him nun chucks to improve his focus in battle.
