@fuzzydunlop7928

Sabu had so much potential, his gimmick and look are amazing, he has legitimate technical wrestling experience - he just couldn’t get out of his own way and he didn’t want to cooperate with big promotions - no compromise with him. He didn’t actually botch as much as people like to say he did - the problem was that he built matches to crescendo on those big moves like the triple-jump to the outside, but those are the most difficult moves with so many variables - if the rope is slippery, if the chair is janky, etc - he would mess up at the most noticeable times. He didn’t ALWAYS botch but when he did, EVERYONE would know about it because the match itself would have to stop until he did it right - that was really Sabu’s problem with botching. He should’ve relied more on his technical abilities, break up the big spots with mat-based stuff. Imagine a more technical Sabu vs Bret Hart circa 1996. WWF needed heels and he would’ve been a perfect wildman/foreigner gimmick to take on the smaller top guys like Bret and Own Hart and Shawn Michaels. There’s a niche there he could’ve filled, Mick Foley rode that wave. Why not Sabu?
@pallyboy6005
@pallyboy6005 3 года назад
Not wrong. As far as I can tell, on PPVs, his botch ratio is lower than his TV-taping/live-event ratio, it seems

RVD (who was the top champion in the company) turned 40 that year, Kurt Angel turned 42, Sabu is a year older than Scorpio, Mick Foley & Scorpio are the same age, the Dudley Boyz were each almost 40, and Sting is way older than Scorpio, Sting turned 51 that year, and TNA also let Ric Flair wrestle. "You get kicked by Van Dam, it's like getting hit by... something... that hurts." This sounds like something I would say, but the difference is, I'm not getting paid to commentate a match, and he was.

there was a storyline in 30 rock where jane krakowski's character signs on to star in (and i think) produce a janis joplin biopic. but they're unable to acquire the rights to her music or even to her life story (i think another studio buys them before they can and that studio makes a janis joplin biopic with an actual legitimate actress like meryl streep). they still make the movie tho about "jenis japlin" (or something like that) and use music that's similar but not so similar that they'd get sued

Daniel Latkowsky they were a far third, but anyone who was into wrestling was aware they existed, and they were one of only three brands with a national presence during the most profitable and high profile period in wrestling history. The ratings their tv show pulled are comparable to what nxt and aew get now. Do you consider aew big time? But i digress; ol’ Rat Face should have never been champion, not only was he majorly undersized, he also had zero charisma, he never even had any moments where one could think “oh he has ‘it’” the mythical ‘it’. I know Paul wanted it on a guy who wouldn’t leave and the plan was to put both belts on Van Dam before he got hurt, but the fact that when he came back they didn’t put it on him made no sense. Except that Rob never needed titles to be a draw, he put the tv title on him because him not having a singles title at that time would have been entirely unbelievable with how much better he was than the rest of the roster

Johnny Swinger is STILL in Impact, still wrestling at a fairly decdnt level and he's got a really good theme song, to me at least. I want to see Impact and AEW start crossing over talent so we can get Swinger vs Dustin in a "We shouldn't still be wrestling at this age, but we are and we're killing it." Match.

I always associate this PPV with Noah Antweiler in my mind. he's largely responsible for getting me to start paying attention to wrestling after falling off somewhere mid-ruthless aggression era. his TNA Vlogs that would later go on to be called "WRESTLE! WRESTLE!" brought a joy back to me, and I remember him REALLY Disliking this PPV and how much of an insult the build for this was.

This PPV is almost emblematic of what has always been TNA's problem (regardless of whose running it) They are so desperate for a rub and an acknowledgement that they are willing to A) Get their claws into anything at the expense of their own identity, B) Changing identities as if they were a pair of jeans regardless of how stained and run down the jeans are and C) Being under this quick fix mentality in that they think if they just get this guy or do this than all of their problems become solved and they are now a fully optimised product They were trying to hire Paul Heyman around this time which obviously didn't happen so they could add him to what was already becoming an old name bonanza for their creative and booking teams (It had already had Russo, Ferrara, Bruce Prichard, Eric Bischoff AND Hulk Hogan all in at some point...all those guys and they wanted to add Heyman to it?), the ECW reunion shows were already becoming tiresome by this point after WWE's two reunion show and WWECW and this isn't even going into the independent Hardcore Reunions and TNA's own ECW invasion back during the Asylum years so already people were sick of ECW nostalgia. And to put things into perspective, TNA did have their own PPV lined up for Hardcore Justice before shelving it for this ECW reunion wankfest which they did the Impact after this show which people generally enjoyed. It had the Beer Money Vs MCMG series finale for the tag titles, AJ Vs Angle and a decent title match with RVD and Abyss...nothing must see but definitely good if you've seen it. So they had this really good PPV line up...and they pushed it to the free tv show so the non TNA guys can get the PPV spot. A PPV spot for guys who were most likely not going to have a job in a matter of weeks, putting over people who shouldn't be put over and a company that they have no real connection to that their competition owns.
