Kathleen Stock is a professor of philosophy who has taken quite a bit of flak for questioning the radical trans rights agenda. In this interview, we discuss her perspective on the problems with "Self ID" and what's happening to women in the rush to forward the trans agenda.

Interesting that she mentioned Pride being commodified & something everyone wants to attend. Fun facts: I'm lesbian. I live in a big city. I haven't gone to Pride in probably 15 years. My hetero, biologically female (I refuse to use the term cis) housemate goes every year. A lesbian friend of mine also goes every year. A little over a year ago, when I first became aware of this dangerous trend, I tried to have a conversation with her about how trans ideology & self-identification is negatively affecting biological women. It didn't go well. I agree w/ your guest. I don't understand why people vehemently defend the "rights" of trans-identified people yet don't consider the ways they violate the rights & wellbeing of biological women. I can't help but see sexism as playing a large role in it b/c the people making the demands are biological men. You don't hear about FtTMs demanding access to men's sports or dressing rooms. I am actually feeling less safe as a lesbian woman now than I did 20-25 years ago. (Edited: I made too many changes to list the edits here, but I edited it as soon as I posted it, before there were any "Likes".)

Difficult to get into sufficient depth on a comment thread. I would say that I think most men I know agree with the Kathleen. I get the feeling that mtf attack women/lesbians because they feel their identity is undermined by their existence and questioning. I think some of this reaction is externalised insecurity. I'm not sure if there is any light between that and misogyny. I think she's spot on, at least on this subject.

There’s actually a good analogy regarding transgendered people and self identification and it involves being disabled. If I’m disabled I cannot self identify as being disabled. I can’t just go run out and say well I am disabled so I want these accommodations and these benefits from the government or from private companies. If I’m born with a disability I have to prove I have a disability to gain access to they are in accommodation. So if you are a transgendered it is perfectly except a bowl for society to require a process whatever that entails to validate you are in fact a transgendered person.

Observe how the word 'self' now positions itself; self ID, self respect, self esteem, self awareness.......The word self has pushed itself to the fore. This also applies to tech; I-pad, I-phone, I-mac. I, I, I, me, me, me. Ne Timeas.

I really, really like & respect Kathleen Stock. I cannot understand how she attracts the vitriol she does as she is very accommodating of trans, & I think in aspects too accommodating. She buys into the language (eg referring to Susie Green's son as her 'daughter' and veers away from seeing/recognising the darkness, misogyny & sexual pathology in the TRA movement. I see the political strategy of this but I think that any capitulation & compromise feeds the beast & undermines the argument.

On the subject of force and coercion, within the last two years I have become increasingly aware of the lack of support for families surrounding the LGBT+ community. Specifically, if a married person comes out as gay or trans only that person has support. Of course everyone has the freedom to make their own decisions, I wouldn't change that. However I am seeing a climate in which spouses are not permitted to express grief over the end of the relationship or in one particularly troubling case, a wife who is straight is being placed in a position of being identified as a lesbian when she is not one. Her husband came out as transgender quite suddenly and began transition therapy quickly after. We live in the US. Initially the trans spouse accepted that the children might still acknowledge them as dad, there are two young children one of them ASD. This family is getting no counseling. For the non-trans spouse, seeking counseling herself might be seen as a micro-aggression and trigger a dysphoric episode in the trans spouse and could be used against the non-trans spouse in court as proof of domestic violence should divorce ever become a possibility. Of course divorce could only be broached by the trans spouse. I wondered if this sort of thing has been discussed or looked at.

Some of these people are your allies - the left hates you, the right stands with you - but you cannot bring yourself around to grab the extended hand of friendship. I am a right-centre guy; I have watched the radfem dialogue regarding men for a decade, and there is a lot of misandry - just as there its a ton of misogyny around from all spheres. Transcult should be a apolitical issue - but it's nearly only the right that is standing up. Glad to see Glinner on board, but he (like you) continues to alienate and pathologies people across the aislie. Where we have common ground we should be pragmatic and not idealistic.

Deplorable D It’s not as though I don’t understand the politics of strategic alliances; it’s that I can’t get on board with right-wingers who believe women should be under men’s thumbs, who oppose abortion or lesbian rights. I watched Julie Bindel do speaking engagements with Milo Yannopoulis, I saw what she was trying to do, but women have to fight for women’s rights and ONLY women’s rights. Getting in bed with misogynists doesn’t benefit women.

It's true she's not an academic or intellectual like Kathleen Stock here. But that's part of what's so appealing and admirable about her. She represents the Average Jane, if you will. A woman. A mom. (which isn't to say that moms cannot be academics or intellectuals, but it's not a representation of the larger female population that goes unheard). I personally disagree with Posie on several things, she doesn't identify as a feminist and yet she IS one, by being a woman fighting for she and her daughter's and all women and girls sex-based rights. I appreciate and admire that she won't just *shut up*, which is what The Powers That Be want.

44:30 so I think I might disagree with the Dr here. So I believe sexuality and sex and the concept of gender are tied together. Now there are a few homosexual transsexuals like myself but if the majority like women I question that as there might be a rather large group of AGPs just trying to tap an untapped market in a sense with lesbians. I mean they would have a better chance with bi women but instead they choose lesbians specifically. That makes me suspicious and I think it does need to be explored more.

49:50 I find it completely baffling that people would assume that someone is bigoted because they don't find a certain person attractive. Sexual attraction is a completely subconscious process, not a conscious rational process. Just because I don't find a particular trans person attractive doesn't mean I'm transphobic. People too often forget that multiple things can be true at once... 1:03:50 See "This Video Will Make You Angry" by CGP Grey. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rE3j_RHkqJc.html Tribalism in the age of social media seems to result in strange feedback loops that stoke the fires of outrage and make people more polarized. I think ultimately the trend is unsustainable, and we'll either figure out how to self-correct, or the systems will end up tearing themselves apart. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

Women stood by and watched, occasionally cheering, instead of defending their fathers, husbands and sons, as every institution turned into a machine to attack the masculine and the traditional patriarchal structure of the family and our culture. Where is your famous female empathy for these "men" who have degraded and transfigured themselves, because they're not comfortable being a man. Oh thats right, if empathy conflicts with self-interest, its always self-interest that wins. As a traditionalist I agree with you that transgenderism is awful. But so is the incessant sickening celebration of "stunning and brave women". Stop reading such puerile lists and remove your support from progressive media that produces them.

Self ID seems almost perfectly designed to kick up this exact fight and distract from the real problem...that there is a distinct lack of resources for adult, potentially trans and trans, patients. There are not enough qualified medical professionals to make diagnoses, skilled GRS surgeons, or points of access. Resolving that, though, would cost *actual money* up front. I'd be interested to look into the phyciatrist that are mainly men sometimes religous men,who are often misogynistic and gender normative in their treatment of patients, how its effecting the trans movement. I know in the last few years or so religion in the UK has started to be implemented in hospitals as in heads of churches coming in to hospitals and trying to get patients to become Christian. And also they don't like women or men who don't conform to gender stereotypes. When girls were having their nales painted a man wasn't allowed to paint his and doctors and nurses often tell female patients to put makeup on to feel better. It's not extreme but I've heard some claiming to be phycologisys online telling people gender norms like girls liking dolls and pink in normal and boys that like to dress up in so called female clothes etc is not normal when we know its totally normal I wonder how much of this sexist and religious agenda is effecting gay people who often have mental health issues how much they are being influenced into believing yes because you have no interest in fashion and pink things and like women that means your a boy and we can surgically put you in that category as it suits the current obsession with gender separation and a return to 50s housewives. As we can see the men's movement like manestfere etc are obsessed with getting women back into the gender normative of the 50s. Because its a disturbing amount of men that want this and some are lawyers, phycistrist, barristers etc.

You believe that having dark/light skin, curly/straight hair, wide/narrow nose, eyes that do/don't have epicanthic fold AREN'T "a biological reality"?!? Besides, they don't claim to change their SEX; They claim to change their (evidence-free, 100% undefinable) "GENDER". Which they claim is "just a social construct", and not biological, either. So whichever way you slice it, whether race IS or ISN'T biological, BOTH ways are equivalent to the trans issue (because "gender" ideology is a self-contradictory mess- "Gender" both IS and ISN'T inherently linked to real-world, evidence-based sex. "Gender" is 100% nurture/learned, coz "just a social construct", but ALSO 100% nature/innate, coz "born this way". Where drugs/surgery AREN'T neccessary to be trans... unless the person is an unconsenting child, when it suddenly becomes URGENT to chemically-sterilize the child, because "just a social construct" has somehow rendered the child's 100% natural, healthy puberty to now be "wrong".)

The idea that you can opt out of being "a woman"/"a man" makes about as much sense as being able to opt out of your age, race, height, or species. (Sex-independent) "Gender" DOES NOT EXIST; "Man"/"woman" have ALWAYS been defined by evidence-based SEX, not make-it-up-as-you-go, 100% evidence-free "gender". "Gender" is (at best) a faith-based religious belief, and should be treated like any other religious belief.

I don't think gay men have the least oppression in the LGBT community. In GENERAL society, bi people probably have the least oppression b/c they can be bi & still be in a relationship w/ an opposite sex partner. You could be bi your whole life & never date someone of the same sex. The point of coming out isn't always just so you can be honest w/ your family when you bring someone home for a visit. Everyone has their own reasons for when & how they come out. Unfortunately, bi people often faced bigotry FROM gays & lesbians BECAUSE they have the option to hide while still having a companion. I'm lesbian & I never did understand that particular bias.

37:45 my thoughts on that is you should question it rather thoroughly. It should also be with someone who is rather skeptical because the gender confirming therapist have never actually studied the satanic daycare case where the kids were telling cops things and the cops were giving positive feedback of certain subjects and then asking leading question. By the end multiple daycare teachers were sent to prison over nothing because the children were trying to get a positive socual response and then the leading questions by the cops expanded the fantasy where kids were having nightmares. The children are trying to confirm the positive feedback they are getting from the gender confirming therapist and it pushes them onto a path they never should have been on because they don't question any real question its just do you feel like a girl or boy. I never felt like a boy or girl and I dont know what that means. I would have to exist as multiple people to know what being a boy or girl means. I know I felt my body was wrong and I knew my sex was suppose to be female and that my body was deformed and even my 2ndary sex characteristics my brain sees as deformities. Its not suppose to be there and my brain screams it out at me.

Your previous guest, the bitcoin guy, I found to be intellectually developed as he was able to forecast (response, react, act, plan, forecast), which to me is the highest mode of understanding I am aware of. This guest is still in the response mode. I posted this in another thread, "The issue is the cognitive bias called the belief bias. Ordinarily, the mind makes sense of what it observes and then applies this to abstract thoughts. This sense is called logic. If one has an abstract belief and then attempts to make sense of it and apply that sense to ordinary observations it results in not-logic. "Cause, like, when you start learning about systems, everything is sexist, everything is racist, everything is homophobic, and you have to point it all out to everyone all the time." - Anita Sarkeesian - founder of Feminist Frequency." At her age, to still be in the response mode, to me, qualifies as having a broken mind.

Professor, do you perhaps think it's time to analyze how much feminism now promotes social problematics that only real feminists can resolve as a means of justifying #whyineedfeminism? Boyce, I thought you would ask her whether the compulsion to not restrict the definition of feminism label parallels the idea that feminists don't want an exclusive definition of woman to exclude transwomen.

@annarboriter
@annarboriter 5 лет назад
@@sarahritter9772 I wish I could indulge your tendency to blame all problems on men. And which 'we' are you using in your response? I'm guessing that you put yourself in the 'radical feminist' school of feminism, which is great, but it's not the only 'we' in the ideology. And I can assure you that plenty of women often use the formula 'according to my definition of feminism..." in order to distance themselves from the elements that they prefer not to be associated with.
@sarahritter9772
@sarahritter9772 5 лет назад
When have I blamed all problems on men? Stop being paranoid. Feminism is a movement that deals with issues that disproportionately effect women. We talk about women's rights and women's issues. And with women I mean human adult females. I used to be a so called liberal feminist until I realized that liberal feminism only centers men who want to be women and doesn't care about the effect transactivism has on women's rights. Liberal feminists can't even give you a definition of woman. And it's not very feminist to threaten women who disagree with you or actually physically assault them and then justify the violence as "self-defense" against "misgendering". And of course many young women turn to that type of feminism first, because it's the only type they know. I was one of these women a few years ago. But words have meaning. I will never understand this whole "my definition of woman is..." "my feminism is...", "to me being gay means..." nonsense. If we all use words differently then we can't communicate anymore. I wonder why they can't just say they're trans activists? Although I'm not even sure if transactivism is the correct term, since they're definition of transsexuality or "transgender" is also completely meaningless and subjective. I wouldn't call myself a radical feminist, since that definition doesn't quite fit my believes, although I do agree with radical feminists on many things. I would simply call myself a feminist, and as a feminist I'm concerned about the safety and the rights of women that are currently under attack. @@annarboriter

I have this nagging feeling that most of these gender theorists - whether they’re ‘queer’ theorists or feminists or whatever, haven’t done the reading and are just sort of...’winging it’? There’s a huge canon of information in biology, zoology, anthropology, and human history, and they don’t seem to have read any of it at all? Or if they have they don’t reference or talk about it. If you’re going to study gender academically why not really do a scholarly study of social history and see if there is any gender relevant information. And I mean really study to the same standards as it would be studied in those relevant departments - don’t just start with a slogan like ‘transphobia’, or ‘rape culture’, and then work your way backwards cherry picking factoids that support your pre formed conclusion. These experts just don’t strike me as having much expertise if I’m honest; people who have a deep understanding of a topic are supposed to have a profound knowledge of all the details of their field. Too many of these ‘critical’ types seem to be simply projecting a list of slogans and jargon terms onto topics they have limited understanding of.
