It hurts me to scroll on social media and see hundreds of thousands of likes on comments that are just completely misinformation. I'm only 22 and was caught up in Covid conspiracy theories when I was 18-19 and I realize now just how god damn naive and stupid I was. I got out of this mess when I really started studying philosophy and science and I just wish others would do the same instead of following the loudest voice, or comment in this case, on social media and taking it as truth.
Thank you for your comment. Please keep adding your voice of reason to counterbalance those whose voices are "loudest". That is the only way we can move things in the direction of sanity.
This is always gonna happen, though. It was the same back during 9/11. I remember hitting the forums I frequented at the time and trying to organize people to share what information they had. Oneupmanship and attention-seeking are powerful influences, and that was before social media and "influencers" and the general fakeification of everything for imaginary internet points. The best thing to do is to keep calm and wait for further information. Those of us sane enough to do it should. Most people won't, but there's no helping the "people are stupid" problem. Not that speculating isn't fun, of course; but it's important to remember that it IS speculation. I think this entire fiasco was faked to help continue Trump's desired civil war, but nobody should believe that's true until evidence of it comes to light, which might not even if it's true, or because it isn't true. All that to say, it's probably best not to participate in any of the early-day speculationfest that's gonna be so full of insanity. Except for the occasional measured visit with fresh popcorn and a healthy ability to turn it off.
You'll keep getting that feeling every couple of years as your brain develops. It's probably the best feeling because you can then know that you are progressing meaningfully. It's probably also the worst for our current evolutionary time period as it makes living with those who don't get this feeling ever a living nightmare.
Thank you for being your honest and logical. I know you’re not a Trump supporter. On another note, your Noah series has a big impact on me. I grew up in Assemblies of God and Faith Movement Churches.

Always struck me as strange that people embraced those charismatic fundies. I grew up in the boring old Church of England in Australia (now called the Anglican Church of Australia) where God is almost an optional extra. Announcing one's atheism was no more surprising or shocking than announcing one's preference for a different colour jumper. At school these sorts of fundies were seen as quaint and the school fool.
I keep seeing a lot of reasoned perspectives, even from people who despise Donald Trump like I do. Thank goodness these are the people I have the sense to pay attention to, and not the conspiracy theorists vomiting nonsense without a second of critical thinking.

Some comments on this: From the pictures, he didn't appear to have a scope but rather an unmagnified red dot optic (not confirmed, just from visual . On a moving ~8" target, from 120 yards, under extreme pressure knowing he only had one shot and was going to die... frankly I'm surprised he made it as close as he did. Like you mentioned, training makes the real difference. He must have been at least decent to get as close as he did to begin with, but either wasn't actually good or just got unlucky (given the visible head turn right before the shot, he may have been on target a fraction of a second before he fired). Not to mention it was at least partly opportunistic: He was local to the state, and was using a rifle which, while common and accurate, would not be the first choice of anyone knowledgeable in firearms for performing something like this---more likely it's what he had on hand when the opportunity to become a terrorist presented itself. Not to mention now I'm seeing news stories that it actually belonged to his dad, furthering that point. The more astonishing thing is the failure of the secret service to prevent the situation. It's their one and only job to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen, and while I won't armchair general one of the most highly skilled agencies in the US, it sure seems like this could have been prevented if more thought had gone into the protective setup that day. It's really easy for either side to fall into conspiracy when stuff like this happens. I'm glad to see rational people like you talking about it... well, rationally.

I guess the only criticism I have is that your wife had training which would lead to her surgical precision with the gun. I read in either the NY Times or AP that the military was asked if they had any enlistment info on the shooter and the response was that there was no record. Also, the gun was purchased by a relative roughly 6 months ago. The shooter could have been an amateur who under the pressure of the situation got shaky. I agreed with your notion that the shooter was convinced that he wasn’t getting out of there alive. It fits. It also might explain the nerves to the point where he would miss. Going against the very basic instinctual survival mechanism can make one jittery irrespective of conscious intent. But that’s just my speculation. Good video as always and thank you for not going down a rabbit hole.
That's my thinking. "Gun nut" doesn't necessarily mean "skilled with guns". If all he did was watch videos or some such, he could easily not properly attach the scope, use bad ammo. etc. Absolutely no need for a conspiracy.

No mass shootings now.
Well to be realistic it is easy to understand why he missed: The pressure of the situation. This was his end, and he had one chance and we will never know if he was spotted in the act and panicked. Perfectly understandable if still a lunatics behavior.
Not much is known about the guy yet - but it's entirely possible he limited firearms experience at just 20. Owning a gun doesn't automaticallly make you a crack shot, nor necessarily make you a gun-nut. @Aron Ra I am an avid consumer of your evolution videos and enjoy them. As for your politics I also don’t agree with you on some points but am sane enough to send kudos when you make sense to me. Good vid. PS I am an avid shooter and builder myself but know that many factors can affect a shot grouping. Miscalculation of wind, substandard rifle, weak ammo or even the wrong grain ammo, lack of long range practice and just plain fear are a few of the factors that can affect accuracy by inches. A 137m shot like that and missing by a few inches while trying to stay out of sight is not easy and was technically on target in regard to grouping. Long range is never easy and getting a near headshot while grazing an ear in the world of shooting is still considered a hit. Excuse my diatribe but most do not realize how hard that it is to achieve.
Plus, he had just scrambled up onto a roof. Probably elevated heart rate from that, plus the stress of the situation. I don't see anything suspicious about him missing.
There's a lot of reasons why someone could miss that shot. The scope could've just been mounted and not sighted in. And there was a police officer who encountered him, had the rifle pointed at him, and then retreated down a ladder. The shooter knew at that point that his position had been compromised and that could've made him rush the shot. Who knows? Maybe we will never know.

If it weren't for the fact that we're talking about one of the world's most prolific (albeit sloppy) con-men in history and the sheer convenience this supposed "hit" has had on his political circumstances, I could easily buy that Trump was not involved in its planning. However, the incredibly suspicious incompetence of the world's most competent bodyguard service gives me pause. The Capitol Police were incompetently unprepared for January 6th just as the Secret Service was incompetently unprepared for this rally. Thomas Crooks was incompetently unprepared as well. There are just so many instances of incompetence surrounding this "hit", coupled with a man who I don't think has ever spoken a true word in his life, who is always playing some angle, that I just can't buy it. There is not one molecule of Trump's existence that can be trusted. Exactly. When things like this happen and I see the debates some people have, man... Do we actually need to remind ourselves of being realistic, logical and truthful, when dealing with a perceived political opponent? It should be the default response to any serious situation and it shows our collective immaturity as humans when the honest quest for truth isn't.
So, I do want to be realistic about this so I must correct some errors in knowledge and judgment. You make comparisons to your wife, an Army trained firearms handler who is "scary good" with AR style rifles. But you're comparing this Army trained specialist with comparatively infinitely more experience on the subject of hitting soft targets, to a 20 year old young man who doesn't know fuck about shit. She probably has more range time actively putting rounds down range with the type of firearm he was using than he has spent time in the same room with any firearm. My point being that this wasn't some gun nut, it was just some nobody who got bullied into making the final mistake of his life. Secondly, you erroneously claimed he used a firearm in a prone position with a tripod and a scope. Let's discuss that. I've used a firearm in a prone position with a tripod and a scope. You wanna know what? It's actually pretty difficult. It took me some time to figure out what I was doing, get adjusted, adjust my tripod, then adjust my scope, and finally my body. If you don't immediately know what you're doing, you're not going to lay down and immediately have all the benefits a prone position, tripod, and scope provide for the operator. You need to know how to utilize the mechanical advantage provided by the prone position and if you don't, you're just marginally better off than using a seated position and a bit better off than firing from a standing unsupported position. It was also mid-day on a tin roof, lil man probably had blisters all over his chest, arms, and belly from the 300 degree tin roof he was crawling across. The firearm also had no scope on it. I'll be less picky about the tripod comment because the crest of the building he used would act as a very effective makeshift "tripod" for his firearm to rest upon. But, your wife will absolutely back me up on this, I think. No "gun nut" (AKA someone who knows how to use firearms effectively and did more than just buy their firearms) is going to try to shoot a soft target in the head. It's way too easy to miss, you get no opportunity for a followup shot, and the likelihood that you're just going to alert the target you're shooting at that you're shooting at them is extraordinarily high. No "gun nut" is going to take their AR-15 with no optic on it and then use supersonic ammo to take out a political opponent. Just not going to happen, they're going to buy the expensive subsonic shit and they're actually going to kill the guy. Like that guy in Utah who kept threatening the FBI, if that guy was taking that shot, as old and decrepit he was, the biggest risk to that guy is falling through the ceiling after he nails Trump in the head. I think this kid is very, very, very clearly just some average nobody who got bullied in school and developed a strong desire to, like you said, get his name up in the lights for a few short moments before he dies.
I accept your criticism. The first image I saw from here looked to me as though he had a tripod and a scope. Also the description of him always wearing fatigues or hunting gear and always being gun obsessed led me to believe that he could shoot. I have since found out that it wasn't even his gun, and that he failed the rifle team at his school for being a "comically bad shot".
Been interacting with you since 15+ years ago in the era of early VenomFangX and NeoPrometheus conversations. It is good to see you hold on to your sharpness and share it with us. Thank you. I hope to shake your hand one day.
Just to make things as clear as I know how, that thing that sticks out from the side of one's head, its anatomical name is _pinna._ We have one on each side, 2 pinnae. The pinna is only one part of the whole _ear,_ which consists of an outer ear, a middle ear, and an inner ear. I'm not criticizing DT for not using medical terminology, and for instead saying he felt a bullet whiz by and tear through the top of his "ear." He wasn't speaking to an audience of anatomists, so "ear" was appropriate. I recently took a look at an enlarged view of where DT was struck. It looks to me like not only did the bullet tear through the very tip of his pinna, but it also cut through some of the skin that was attached to his skull. We have only a thin layer of skin there. So I would think that it might be possible that the bullet may have grazed some bone. And even if the bone were not struck - I'd wonder if getting struck at the side of the head the way DT was struck may have caused some degree of injury to the brain. I've heard it reported that at the hospital where DT was brought, DT got a CT scan. Possibly to see if he had any bone injury or brain injury. DT doesn't seem to have any serious injury but perhaps that bullet was even closer to causing serious brain injury and serious permanent injury than some of us might have been think thinking - like maybe it was a 0.25 inches from DT's brain rather than an 1 inch from his brain?
While he was a registered republican, he also apparently donated(a small amount) to some Democratic candidate or cause. saying that is super significant in any way, just adding some context. As for him "missing," remember that he was(i think?) 120 or 130 yards away. Thats obviously not very far for an AR, as most ARs can shoot at least a 2 inch 5-shot group at that range, but you also have to remember that he probably not in his right mind, is probably worked up, anxious, etc. I've also heard people say that trump turned his head right as the shot was fired, which may have saved his life. I'd have to watch the video again to check if that's plausible or not. What I dont get is how the Secret Service and all of the federal, state, and local police involved failed to notice a young man climbing up onto the roof of a building with a rifle, especially since many people in the crowd not only saw it, but also were telling the police about it. Regardless, my condolences to all involved, especially the father who lost his life. Oh, and you made an important comment about mass/active shooters. While murder(s) do occur, many experts believe that an active shooter event is often best looked at as primarily a suicide.
@@DeedlyDoodNo it wasn’t. He made the donation. He was also a registered Republican to vote against trump in the primary since you had to be registered for the party you were voting for in Pennsylvania.
Maybe, but that’s worthless in Pennsylvania. Our primary is in late April. The president is always already decided by then. Haley dropped out in March.
Yes. Checking an online calculator, I see for 10 mph wind right-to-left, 2.19 inches at 150 yards, 9.81 inches at 300 yards. As well as getting up to wind speed sideways, the bullet is slowing down due to air resistance on its way downrange. It takes longer to get from 600 to 700 than to get from 0 to 200, so there's more time for it to go farther sideways. Change wind speed to 20 mph, it's 4.37 inches at 18.82 inches, pretty much twice as far. 4.37 inches would be enough. From personal experience, a different way of holding the rifle can shift point of impact by 4¼ inches at 164 yards. Maybe the sights were correct for someone else, not for him.
Wind, or possibly the scope not sighted in (meaning adjusted) for that specific range. You don't just put your crosshair on a target and hit it, they have to be "set" for the range you desire to hit targets at, and anything outside that specific range requires aim to be a little higher or lower which requires experience to adjust for. There is a lot more that goes into aiming a firearm, as the comment above me details.
I just listened to an interview with one of the shooters old classmates and he remembered the shooter being brutally bullied in school. He went on to say he always sat by himself at lunch and was a loner.
@randyorr9443 Crooks was bullied by school mates so he tries to kill Donald Trump? I don't see the connection. Maybe he knew one of the bullies was planning to attend the event, Crooks located him in the crowd, was aiming for him - but missed and hit Trump instead? Is that your hypothesis?
I'm a skeptical person generally, but I just don't think he actually missed either. It's very unlikely. Also, the security plan for Milwaukee has not changed AT ALL and they're completely deadset on going ahead, regardless. This is very suspicious.
One thing I've seen in recent analysis is that a police officer had just tried climbing onto the roof behind him - allegedly, he pointed the rifle at them and they jumped back down, and then he swung back around to take a rushed shot. Not a stretch to assume that could have skewed the shot?
John Wilkes Booth - Lee Harvey Oswald - James Earl Ray.. Yes, this kid probably thought his name would live forever like these. AND, he would have been correct if that ear-shot was just 1 or 2 inches to the right... But like Aron said .. "He Missed"?!?
Yes, he obviously knew that it was a suicide mission. Motive? Perhaps he wanted to start a civil war. Perhaps, after years of being bullied in school he was seeking a brief moment of notoriety and glory. Maybe we'll find out, maybe not.

Maybe the shooter was angry at Trump when he sided with Democrats on gun control, Trump even accused, pennsylvania republican Pat Toomey, of being afraid of the NRA, and Trump said that the police should have taken the Florida's shooter's guns, whether they had the right to or not, so he could of been angry that Trump has some liberals views
Thank you for the refreshing honesty. We don’t know what we don’t know. It doesn’t look like he had an amplified scope on it. Maybe just a red dot. Still accurate. But if the dude had astigmatism, they kind of look blurry and “move”. So that and trump moving could explain the near miss. Plus what a hunter would call “buck fever”. His heart was already pumping after the climb up. That and seeing his target, the dot was probably moving a lot.
You very well could be right, he went out in a blaze of glory, allegedly in the Pitts Post Gazette a cop did climb up there to intervene beforehand but retreated back down. I dont understand why there was a lack of communication from everyone that SS didnt step in moments beforehand. Its quite possible because of the venue and the demographic that there would be no threat from anyone locally there. But i heard the spin by Task and Purpose that maybe the SS lacked resources as a hint that maybe someone in DC hindered the efforts.
It's plausible that him seeing the cop and rushing the shot is why he missed. I doubt it's anyone specifically hindering efforts and probably the SS being as short staffed and poorly run as every other agency and large organization in the US these days. That combined with them both not expecting a hit there, and just them not having to deal with a legitimate attempt like this in the last 20 years, probably just made them slow to react.
My guess is there was some kind of miscommunication with the locals whom the Secret Service relies on for additional manpower. The advance team, which I've worked with on presidential visits, would have told the locals to secure access to that rooftop. Sounds like a local did confront the shooter but was scared off.

@@RyanLivesForGodAlwaysdid it ever occur to you that the reason porn is "so bad" is entirely because of religion forcing us (especially in the United States) to "wait until marriage" and also not teaching about any of it in school beyond what the organs are? So it becomes "forbidden", further stigmatizing what is literally one of the most natural things you can do. It prevents people from rushing into marriage just because they're sick of waiting (high divorce rate if they don't believe getting divorced will also send them to eternal torture), it is healthy for you, and like any other thing *ahem* servicing yourself *ahem* can be addictive but how can someone ever expect to be able to get help for that with how stigmatized the idea of their own organs are? I don't know what your point is by posting this on this channel but the damage religion has done to our society is monumental and you aren't going to scare or convince anyone here into believing organized religion. I have nothing wrong with people who are deeply disturbed when the thought of this promise (afterlife, heaven, yet another way in which religion has hurt society) being taken away comes up or something like that and they are religious for that reason, by the way.
Just some loser gun nut kid, from the sound of things so far. Utterly unsurprising with his appearance. Exactly the kind of person you'd expect to turn sovcit and flat Earther and vote Trump some day, but there's no evidence of that yet, is there?
Remember the best way to not get fooled by quote mines is to check the source in full. I hear the "very good people on both sides" quote mine by folks that i would have considered experts in spotting quote mines. Also the best to way to know if your being BSed is simple, if the thing is true, there are things ypu expect and things you don't, likewise if its false there are things you would expect and things you wouldn't. Super simple.
All is focused on the donation which happened in Jan 2021 but then registered Republican in Sep 2021. The new angle is he just registered to disrupt the primary close to 3 years later. Doesn’t add up. The guy was a nutjob.
This reminds me of Turgut Özal, who was the Prime Minister of Turkey at the time, survived an assassination attempt on June 18, 1988. Özal's survival of the attack increased his popularity and he later became the President in 1989.
Hilter, who made his Beer Hall Putsh a NAZI holiday, after he was chancellor...who made any party other than NAZI illegal, making a one party rule. You know, like MAGA wants.

FYI - There is a very recent video by Mrgunsngear that goes over what the public currently knows about the shooting as well as analysis by himself and others. The guy is ex-military and he has knowledge about these sorts of things. (please avoid speculation)
Is this the officially reported position based upon forensic examination of the evidence, a check against the ownership database (if any) and confirmed by the father, or have you confused facts with speculative shit written by twats on the Internet?

They use the M4 in the army which is nearly the same as the AR-15, but fully automatic, so it would not be weird at all. It's weird you wouldn't know it's basically the standard army rifle though.
It's true there are a lot of like you can even use the same handguard with them but the M4 is automatic and can be used for burst shot as well. An AR-15 on the other hand the problem with the AR-15 is that it fires one shot at a time in the military you want as many shots downrange as possible this is why it's weird to hear that his wife trade with an AR-15 that's like training with a bolt action rifle. Alongside an Uzi. It's just strange to me to hear someone using an AR-15 for training purposes. Maybe if she was sharpshooting but AR-15s aren't sniper rifles they're mid-range rifles. So it's just kind of weird so she was trained on a mid-range rifle that fires one shot by one shot you can be pretty accurate with that type of weapon for mid-range combat but if you're going up against an M4 you're going to get crushed and anything above an M4 you might as well surrender
An m4 and an AR 15 are virtually the same rifle, the only difference is the m4 just has a different trigger mechanism that has selectable fire for full auto use.
@@KyleAxington M4 is a shorter carbine model. Less range. The M16 is not that hot at tight grouping past 150 m. Competence in the Army was ~10" 3 shot groups at 250. 2" at 150 is superior.
@@inthedark334 Dude. "AR-15" is the design by Armalite, which was sold to Colt. Colt manufactured a lot of variations on that design, some of which were sold on the civilian market as the "AR-15" while others were sold to the military as the Rifle M16. They and one other manufacturer continue to provide M16 rifles and a shortened version that's easier to handle in confined spaces and getting into and out of helicopters and armoured personnel carriers and is designated Carbine M4, and a lot of manufacturers make compatible parts and whole rifles consisting entirely of compatible parts now that the patent's old enough to spare them the fee. The M16 has been made in multiple versions with multiple trigger groups, including safe - semi - full, safe - semi - 3-rd-burst and safe - semi - 3-rd-burst - full. It can be used as a sub-machine-gun when needed. That was part of the reason for its adoption. The M14 that preceded it, being in 7.62 x 51 mm, was way too jumpy to be useful in full auto and kind of large and heavy, and the ammunition for it was large and heavy too compared to the 5.56 x 45 mm. "AR-15" as an actual model designation is like "Yaris," "Fiesta" or "Mégane," only made by Toyota, Ford and Renault respectively, but "AR-15" as a design is like "V6 four-stroke internal combustion petrol engine." It doesn't tell you how many forward gears the thing has. As for putting rounds downrange, eh, they have to at least get close to count. Having eight people taking turns to fire single shots that get close enough to the target to be scary does a whole lot more good than having all eight people spray thirty rounds each into the farm that contains the target. Full-auto mostly wastes ammo except at very close range.
Jimmy Snow has a rather spot on aspect on this situation called “ don’t be fucking stupid “ directed at fellow leftists secular minded people who are getting caught up in the conspiracy theories.
Aron, I have been a supporter of yours for many years. I am 56 years old and a life long atheist. But the fact that you did not publicly condemn this horrific act of violence has me stunned.
You 100% correct. Aaron doesn’t have to call out this nonsense! So why would anyone expect orange man or any of his supporters to condemn and call out what happened on Jan 6! At least orange man didn’t call for people to do that. His exact statement regarding people protesting on behalf of his gripes regarding the election was “ I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard” No matter how you slice it,,,,,, he called for people to stand up for what they believe in peacefully! misinformation or no misinformation! It’s evident that a lot of car left people have ideas based on misinformation which is being taught to them at colleges and universities. The cognitive dissonance surrounding Gays for Gaza and queers for Palestine is a very funny thing! But I don’t hear any dems or lefties correcting them! This argument comes down to being consistent when calling out disinformation or misinformation! I think it would be a good move for Aron to be outspoken about how disgusting and unacceptable this attack on orange man was!
