What a terrible ending to an otherwise ok movie ..

It's easy to say that the wife is the victim here. At first the man was the victim and in the end he suffered mentally and went full crazy. It happened because the wife was too friendly with the men. No real husband will tolerate that. She fully ignored her husband whether he likes it or not. Even if she didn't cheat still her behaviour was not okay. She acted carelessly and it made the husband crazy. That's why she suffered in the hands of her husband. I'll say they are innocent. He wouldn't have tortured her if he was okay and she maybe didn't cheat but was always playful with men.

Imagine NEVER getting married. And never getting serious with women. And for some reason? Your life is happy always. Weird hugh?

She was definitely cheating on him with Martineau, they were alone together way too many times. Not to mention the constant lies and gaslighting she did. He should have known the type of woman she was based on her friend's promiscuity. As for his paranoia I think Martineu was the only one sleeping with his wife (he had a smug look everytime they talked to each other), and that revelation made him question all of her interactions with other men.

I get being heartbroken over her cheating but SA and domestic violence isn’t okay. She should’ve ran and never looked back, rich or poor.

Great depiction of an example paranoia and psychosis in relationship. Life can trigger our inner wounds that have the potential to destroy our relationships and our life. While the wife likely did cheat on him with Martineau likely in reaction to the fact her husband seems very serious, not very fun or romantic. This is not a good reason to cheat but likely a motivator for her and other women in real life. Even if she was not physically intimate, she at the very least lied quite a lot. his reaction to this break in trust is not in the range of sanity likely due to early attachment wounding/trauma. The result becomes increasingly tragic for both in the relationship. This happens on an extreme scale to some like in this movie and minor scale with many more.
