In the cellar that the colonial govt left to him, on ascension as prime minister WHEN he went into the cellar & saw different champagne in there he called the group in & THEY drank are and came on the podium & declared Ghana my beloved country is free forever. After crowd dispersed he & group went back into cellar & enjoyed themselves throughout till following morning haggard & his whiteman secretary quip "U was good previous day eh?" Nkrumah then asked his secretary to put in request order for more of those champagne. Secretary couldn't hold his laughter. Nkrumah said why & secretary said there is a lot too in my cellar. RECKLESSLY spent money & project became stalled for a while. Secretary advised him to dash down back to USA but must know they will only give him funds through private INDIVIDUALS & he must accept otherwise he will be back empty handed. Following day kwame was in flight. That was where he sobered. Told in the U said U are free forever. The two individuals who provided funds on his visit told him they will have their own personnel to manage & complete the project. Kwame agreed & signed. Kwame N was bad young man.
