I realize that this was put out several years ago, but the message is timeless, and the content beautiful. I'm 63 and starting my build on a Rans Outbound. I cant wait to do this trip. Thanks for sharing this important time in your life as a pilot and a person.
One of the best, if not the best, flying adventure videos on RU-vid. I've watched this video so many times and I'm sorry I haven't given the praise it deserves earlier. Thanks for sharing it with us 😊
At 67 years old, I am finally finding the time to get my fixed wing add-on to my Private Pilot Certificate (I've been rated in Helicopters since '85) and I'm looking forward to many solo travels, especially through Idaho. Your video has been most inspirational. Thanks for the confidence booster.
There is something about this video that I have always loved. I have watched it multiple times. Probably the lack of editing out things with adding fluff and just feeling like you are actually there with ya. Great job.
This probably the tenth time I’ve watched this video and it never gets old. I haven’t been able to fly the last 2 months because of all that’s been going on. This video represents everything I love about being a pilot. Grass fields, adventures, freedom, friendships. Whenever I’m missing the sky I watch this video and it renews my love for flying
Every so often I come back and watch this video. Without fail it always re-focuses my love for aviation and causes me to crave the adventure of a cross-country trip to a place like Idaho. It’s a challenge to produce something that inspires people to this degree, but you nailed it with this video.
Hello from New Zealand. Iam not a pilot but watch a lot of aviation via this platform. Just watch this video and have to say how awesome it was. Infact going to watch it again. Thank you Evan. It really touched my heart.
Great video, Evan...just great! Not sure how I missed it all this time but worth the wait. Sure gets the juices flowing for another trip to Idaho. Fun to see some of the same people I've met thanks to our BCP connection...and also to think how much has changed since then. Love this aviation stuff and hope our paths cross someday! Bart
I owe my direction of life now due to the inspirational videos chosstronaut had posted to RU-vid his video what do you desire moved my lufe back on track. I bought a savannah vg flew it 980nm home for my first real cross country experience and now have done more flying in the past 6 months than I had in the previous 10 years. This video is the single best thing I have seen come out of RU-vid since chosstronaut posts everything rings true, the thoughts of turning around, being scared being only your desisions but without being outside that comfort zone we would not have a life to document and possibly change someone else's. thank you great job keep it up and from Australia fly safe.
Travis, I have heard many times that Tyler's videos were an inspiration. His true passion came through in everything that he did. He was a great person with a big heart. Thank you for the nice comment. This is the message that I was hoping to convey- The reality of an adventure like this. Fly safe and take care!
Thank you for posting this video. It's my inspiration and I have watched it multiple times now. I just purchased a Badland Aircraft ultralight kit and plan on living a similar dream on a much smaller scale; fly around the local desert and camp under the wing. Thanks again,. Every time the dream fades a little against the backdrop of reality, this video revives it in technicolor. I can't wait to build my plane and finally live a similar adventure.
Thank you, took me back years! I am a licensed Pilot, lived in Salmon, ID - 3 years. Flew many times into the "Flying B"! I have been to many remote strips in the "Frank Church Wilderness Area". Including landing on Mine tailings at Yellowknife. Great Aircraft Super Cub!I have landed on a Frozen Lake in upper Idaho in a Cub on Skis. Enjoyed the Mountains, Hot Springs, etc.
This video never gets old. I watch every so often to remind me and stir in me that great feeling of why I fly in the first place. The adventure and confidence it has given me being a private pilot. Thanks for this inspirational video.
This is now my favorite video that I have ever seen! Your narration was excellent, and you captured the deep passion for flying that most people will never experience. You went to the places that most of us flat landers dream of flying to. I will watch this video many times over. Thanks for the ride. I may have to point my 170's nose NW one of these days. Man what a trip you made! Safe Travels always.
I enjoyed your adventure back country flying. It was the final moments of the film all the sorrow came back. You see Tyler sounded like a good friend to be around but Tommy Weiss was our Civil Air Patrol's Commander Major Greg Weiss. Tommy was one of 2 son's that Greg taught how to fly his Cessna 170B . Greg died of a heart seizure before Tommy's death. Tommy was a Captain in the Corvalis Oregon fire dept paramedic. When I joined the CAP Greg was very knowledgeable funny and outspoken. I did not know his son's personally but Greg was so proud of their accomplisments. I myself had a Mooney 231 Ilike the speed and the positive control of torque tubes. Take care and be well.
I lived in Boise for about 15 years and still have friends who live in Garden Valley. We spent many weekends camping in those mountains. This is a great video. Well done young man !
Great film, it was awesome to come along for the long cross-country. I'm a commercial helicopter pilot and will start fixed wing training in June, we live out here in Utah, I'm looking forward to landing at some of our more remote airfields someday soon. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.
I really enjoyed your video! I am very excited to buy my first airplane which will be a Cub in the next year or two and a trip like this is what I would like to do. Thanks for sharing. I didn't want the video to end!
Steveo, Thank you! I really appreciate it. I always enjoy your videos, and take this as a great compliment! There may be a part two in the works as we speak. I just got back from another trip out there in my 1957 182A. On the Cub, you will never go wrong with that choice. Flying in it purest form.
Hey there Steavo, also love your videos. About to take my private check-ride here in Boise, ID. If you come flying in central Idaho and stop by McCall (a common starting point), come check out the McCall Smokejumper base. If I’m around, I’d love to show you around.
Really enjoyed your trip. Great narration and editing. I am a budding back country pilot. I only have 11 hours of single engine time but 22,000 hours of multiengine/ATP under my belt. I'll have to get my single engine endorsement first and then my tail dragger sign off. Looking forward to owning and flying my own plane after over 35 years of military/airline flying. Four more years to mandatory retirement. Cheers!
Thanks Jeff, and thank you for your service! Im sure you will have no problems transitioning, minus warm feelings of redundancy ; / Fly safe, and enjoy!
Like many of those who made comments prior to this humble soul's; your production topped all. As a fellow Ohioan, the mention of Ohio Bush Pilots made me chuckle. In addition, seeing one or two Superstols told me that I am traveling in the right direction. I am putting together the funding to purchase one of Just Acft's products. The ultimate goal being to expose my 3 year old grandson to the wonders of tools and building and culminate with a trip similar to yours for the two of us. Your video has been a true inspiration to me and I am sure, to many others. All this being said, your writing skills have tremendous potential. Keep putting your words on paper. Write, write, write. In your video, you are developing a great tone and voice. Your passion for the subject matter comes shining through. These three items, plus the style in which you speak and write can and will combine into a solid product. Do keep up the great work. I will follow you from Findlay. Now, go slip the surly bonds...
Thank you Brad for the kind words. It is truly appreciated. Good luck on your upcoming project. I am sure your grandson will cherish that time with you. Fly safe!
Do it. You only live once. One of my most memorable days was when my wife gave me the thumbs up. She said I worked hard, I deserve it. I hope yours does (did) the same for you.
Very nice video. Flew Seattle area to Oshkosh and back this summer in my Kitfox, and had some similar adventures and feelings of trepidation and accomplishment. Will be making Idaho the focus next summer, and looking forward to the backcountry.
Wow what an amazing trip and with such little experience. I hope to do the same in the near future. That engine cooling scare when you were doing a slow climb thru the mountain valleys! Holy shit balls!
Awesome video man! I was holding short on the lake bed when Tom and Tyler collided. Something I'll never forget. I will also never forget my first trip to Idaho from CA in my 2-stroke powered Avid Flyer.
This is a great video/documentary. I will be completing my microlight pilot license next year, as well as my fixed wing license. This inspires me to also make an adventure film. Happy flying!
I wanted to tell you how much I so appreciate you sharing this video. I am humbled to watch your great adventure that I hope to do someday. Money always seems to be an issue for me and with my hearing impairment I almost gave up on it. Then Ultralight kit planes came to existence. So...maybe I too can fly my dreams as you did yours. I love the music you have selected. Lucky for me I live in Oregon so a Idaho trip will be a short one for me.
Right at 21:32, that is a very familiar view to me! That's "my" range, the Portneuf Range, and I can almost make out my strip, I even estimated your altitude pretty closely, 11K or so. I do engine off ridge soaring on the ridge in my Rans S-7S, seeing it unexpectedly like that was weird but made me appreciate even more where I live and fly. I knew Tyler also....
What you show in video is truth in loves contentment. Like an amber light touching gently upon a soul. This large grandness speaks through you and also in us all to play and dwell in. This what we are is greater than we can imagine. Share what you are and let it be known for all to see. You are a beacon. Thank you and be free forever. :)
