He didnt mention an important part of facial hair - it can create an illusion of strong chin and jaw line. Thats a big bonus in the aesthetic department if you have a weak lower third. (and probably why men look more masculine with a beard) .
I think a full beard can ruin jawline aesthetics. If you don't regularly shape up the beard according to an individuals jaw shape, than it can hide or ruin the natural jaw shape.
I feel like subjects with a sharp jawline that had a clean shaven face weren't taken into account in these experiments - I may be wrong - however, I'm sure women would like men with sharper jawlines that are clean shaven too.
True! If a beard/stubble helps balance out the face proportions then it will be more attractive. If someone has great symmetry/proportions clean shaven, then they may look too disproportionate and probably less attractive with facial hair.
I think they have addressed that in a previous video, they said that people like tom hardy look better with a beard and people like henry cavill looks better without a beard
@@rexblack8170 true they have but I doubt they included or took into account men with sharp jawlines. They may have and I may be wrong but if they did, realistically I would expect clean shaven faces to rank higher
@@robin7048 nice to know, been seeing a few vids (like 1 or 2 lol) of clean shaven with a sharp jawline vs beards and most the girls sided towards clean shaven but the beards weren't far off. Maybe 60% for clean shaven and 40% for bearded
The sample of 60 women who rated the men’s attractiveness, the question is, how old were the women? Mature women have different cultural beliefs to younger women. They also prefer more mature men so they’ll find more heavily bearded men more attractive than younger women who may not like the age gap.
@@chriszone50 Very true. Higher status women will invariably/ consistently find bearded men unattractive and unkemp. Women from lower classes who live in unsafe urban areas on the other hand may find it macho and attractive.
I’m middle class, went to a good school, got good grades and fell madly in love with Viggo Mortensen's Aragorn as a young teen and as a result vastly prefer any kind of good beard in my 20s. I don’t really care for a clean shaven face at all unless the man doesn’t look good with facial hair. Education and background seem an odd thing to base attraction standards on when taste in media, social influences and similar seem far more logical deciding factors than just ‘uneducated people like roughness and well educated people like visible neatness"
@@LadyAhro Viggo Mortensen is a Hollywood actor picked for his good looks so it doesn’t mean you’re necessarily into bearded men. Additionally, professional men like doctors, surgeons, lawyers, management, executives, et cetera are all clean shaven so women who like men like those deem bearded men to be low status, poor and/ or working class.
@@kiuk_kiks He’s far from the only bearded character or actor I’ve been attracted to and in general have always preferred a well kept beard and find my eye drawn to a good beard instinctively. I simply like beards. And indeed while traditionally many high earning degree-educated jobs have deemed a clean shaven face to be the standard of professionalism things are now changing in certain fields and facial hair is becoming somewhat more acceptable here in England even within the legal profession or within high ranking company roles. Perhaps my age, nearing my mid 20s, is an influence on my own perception but in general the middle class people I know, inevitably a lot of my friends, do not consider beards unprofessional. And even those from the same background going into reasonably prestigious fields mostly do not dislike beards. (One friend is applying for their PHD in Medical Physics and vastly prefers bearded men.) Of course my anecdotal evidence of a very small sample of English middle class ladies interested in men and approximately 24-25 years of age is by no means hard evidence of anything but I would be far more inclined to consider factors beyond standards formed by high earning professions being a much more influential force. This is especially if tastes were formed long before a person had started to either consciously or unconsciously find men in a certain profession appealing. At a certain age this is likely rarely a thought unless it is subconscious. And while many people desire likeminded partners this is often in values alone rather than in career similarities. This is another observation I have made within the group of women I know of a similar age, as some have chosen to date or even marry ‘working class' men with high intelligence. Such as one who's partner is a professional musician in an orchestra. These men are not 'beneath' my friends who have chosen highly regarded careers nor less intelligent. It’s an interesting subject that, since I have not seen many studies, seems like a lot of speculation to pinpoint taste on background, education or profession alone.
Sharp jawline = clean shave , cause sharp jawline means high testosterone thus high fertility No sharp jawline = beard , cause beard is again symbolising masculinity , thus high testosterone , high fertility
He looks better without a beard. He often leaves his beard fairly long so it hides his natural jawline and strong chin area. Compare the two and it's night and day difference.
What about Robert E. Lee? What's your take? Or, if you want to go farther/further than that, King Arthur, or the 3 Wise Men? So, compared to them and the modern man, who looks better with a beard? Baby face, or somebody like that? This is directly asked for the women. (Guys forget that question). Ladies?
Huge help for me on my beard Journey was the more plates more dates video on the perfect beard growth protocol. 4 months in and I'm getting decent stubble coverage
My partner has a very full beard now after growing it out and keeping it well shaped but when we met he kept it quite short and even looking back at old pictures of us the difference is shocking. The guy has a fairly large nose, it’s pretty straight and in the past you would definitely notice that he had a big somewhat rounded nose/nostrils. I never considered it to detract from his appearance, he’s a handsome man, but it was the most dominant feature on his face and it made him feel rather self conscious. So he started to grow his beard out more. Now because his beard is so thick (think just a bit thicker/longer than Captain America's Infinity War beard but that exact same shape) everything is super harmonised, and though I never believed it possible he’s more handsome than ever before, with the beard also strengthening his jawline even further. All his friends have complimented the beard heavily (which he’s told me with such pride after he’s been on zoom) and paired with his long viking hair it’s such a masculine, strong and devastatingly handsome look.
I find the whole beard and aggressiveness thing weird. I’ve always found beards more like humble or laid back. I mostly associate them with being older though so....
If you grow your beard and it’s getting thin at the ends, trim it to where it’s the thickest and keep it neat. As a person with no beard, I find that sparse or thin beards look messy and makes you look more unkempt than I’d it’s just cut off. Also weird opinion: thick eyebrows compliment thick beards. If you have a thick beard and no eyebrows it looks weird, but the opposite is completely normal
@Black King are you joking? Fat bald men are the ones who look most attractive with a beard, in fact, I've never seen a fat man with a beard who looked ugly irl
IMO 3-day stubble is the best. Most of men look the most handsome with it. Although it really depends upon your facial features: some look better clean shaved, some with light beard. But I absolutely hate 5 o'clock shadow. My father wore one. Brr. Daddy issues.
the best look IMO is clean-shaven when you have a sharp jaw with some 5 o'clock shadow ( the green skin look you get after shaving ) like Francisco Lachowski for example , that's what i like on me mostly too also, day 7 of asking qoves to analyze Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley ( Damon and Stefan Salvatore ) .
my experience with facial hair is pretty much positive for the most part. before i could grow decent facial haiar, i rocked the clean shaven look everyday. to be honest i felt very average. people didnt give me special attention, i was just treated very normal. with women i had a very 50/50 succes rate. mostly i didnt get any dates or anything. also i was skinny and wasnt working out in that moment. Now flash foward to 2022 im 24 and i work out and grew a beard. i pretty much always have a girl im talking to. It doenst take much effort to get girls and i get compliments on my beard from women. i also have shown them pictures of me with a beard and how i currently look and they all prefer now. so maybe im just an outlier but i look way better with a beard. it could also be that i changed my hairstyle. and i workout and have more confidence but the beard definietly helps in my case.
It depends who you allow yourself to associate with, which more commonly will align with your own believes and thoughts. Not everyone likes it, as some find it pokie and itchy and not as attractive as the clean face. Same for a woman who doesn’t shave her legs (but feels better about not worrying with it.) Personally, if a man shaves his face the woman should shave her legs, and vice versa. But that’s just me, to each their own
True but if you go 20 years without shaving and suddenly decide at 45 or 55 to do so. Then you show your wife who has not seen you without a beard she might cheat on you after that
I’m sure she meant to be nice but the worst advice I’ve ever received was from women. By far the best advice Ive ever received, both directly and indirectly, was from father.
depends on your face shape and cheekbones. Good jawline and/or cheekbones = keep it low. Either keep it cleanly shaven or keep a stubble (like a designer stubble). If not, you'll be best with a beard that imitates a good jawline. I have good cheekbones and a masculine jawline, thanks to my dad, and keep a designer stubble. I get more compliments from women with a stubble than I did with a beard.
Wow the perfect video for me right now... Never thought I needed this much analysis about facial hair, in a world of opinions about them.. This one was really out of the box and a good video as usual
@@iReppoGames i don’t know what “average dudes” are living in your neighborhood but they certainly aren’t living in mine lol! it’s just a nice ass beard: nice shape, nice density, suits his face etc
Clean shaven I like the slightly more masculine face or the one in the middle, but with the light beard it is hot all the way to the 50% feminized side lol.
I think a strong and well defined lower third is a better indicator of masculinity than facial hair. Also the proof that a man is actually "good looking" as lower third is the number one thing when it comes to facial attractiveness. Nobody would consider Tom Hardy with full beard to be more masculine looking than a clean shaven Henry Cavill. Though, not all overtly masculine faces are considered attractive, there has to be a good balance between male and female features for one to be perceived as "attractive"
Yeah there are many men who have very well developed lower thirds but they just look like ogres. You need a mix of feminine and masculine features and the overall harmony is very important. For example the eyes can make or break the face. If your lower third isn't extremely recessed I would argue that the eyes are the most important feature.
@@ballislife9924 at this point, we could say that everything is important for an attractive face😂😂😂. I was basing the good lower third = attractive on QOVES's facial analysis where it mentioned that the lower 75% of your face matters the most when it comes to attractiveness
@@devansh7514 Well tbh everything is important. But yeah if your eyes or lower jaw are really, really bad you are not good looking no matter what. You need both at least average. You can get away with a big nose, not the perfect lips and mouth, height, face shape, hairline, cheekbones etc.. but the eyes and lower third need to be average at least if you want to have a chance at being good looking. Or one of the two is so outstanding that it halos your entire face a bit. But that applies more to the eyes. Think of "hot felon" Jeremy Meeks.
@@ballislife9924 Jeremy really has top tier front profile, his cheekbones, eyes, jaw and harmony in all his features is just outstanding. Some people on the internet were saying he has a recessed chin when looked from the side, doesn't affect his aesthetics though.
@@devansh7514 Yeah that's true. But his eyes give him that extra factor. I saw a photoshop with him having brown eyes once and Yeah he was still good looking but nothing special and would not have been this famous. It made such an drastic difference to his look I couldn't believe it tbh.
@@tmifb9926 I don't use make-up. And make-up isn't gonna hide one's lack of jawline or (double) chin. Even contouring can't do that and most women don't go out of their way to do so on a daily basis either. Takes way too much time.
My take on this it's not one size fits all, facial hair is a sexually dimorphic trait and it gives symmetry to your face - this is true for everyone. However the more facial hair, the more attractive - things aren't linear like this. The amount of beard one should keep isn't one size fits all and one should experiment and try to find whats best for him.
@@m1951-j2u That is YOUR opinion, as a woman I have the right to be attracted to whoever I want. If it makes you feel like your "masculinity" is threatened because of that then you need to go fix your insecurities instead of going around telling other people that their choices are wrong.
@@m1951-j2u Not really , it seems we are having a new evolutionary preferences in male faces especially towards neoteny from the female side. Which means more youthful(baby like features) is gradually taking preference in men as well and it is no longer being exclusive for female faces.
I have an ok jawline but it looks way more defined with a bit of facial hair, that also frames my face and gives me a more squarish face shape. whereas without I think its more oval. I have dark ginger hair but a lighter ginger beard so I need to grow a lot longer stubble for it to be noticeable. So I've been adding a little beard colour to darken it up. I reckon if I grew it longer I could look like Hank Scorpio. Also the moustache slightly obscures my thin upper lip. Making my lips look less thin.
When ever I get my beard absolutely perfect and sexy, I just want it to freeze at that length and never grow again! 😆 But then suddenly I’m Ned Kelly again
in my humble opinion 1- u wont look good in it if the apples of ur cheeks sit low. For ex john krasinki looks way better WITHOUT a beard than with. 2- ANY hair that grows out of apple cheeks is yuck, makes u look hairy 3- beard needs to be dense yet medium short (no santa claus length gross) 4- must have a mustache with it, i dont understand why men would shave it and leave the beard, they look like abraham lincoln 5- cut the hair in a skeletal fashion. I noticed a LOT of french men do this: it gives them a chiseled look. Look up singer RIDSA 6- overall beards make men look manly. Like skirts and sundresses make women look delicate and feminine. If u can grow one (a real one, not patchy): then go for it 🥳🥰
Ridsa’s beard looks too manicured imo. You have to try to make it look effortless/natural. I think the same goes with haircuts but that’s just my opinion as a dude. You make some interesting points otherwise.
@@tmifb9926 not only makeup: they shouldnt wear fake hair fake nails fake boobs fake anything. It's false advertising to men. Very dishonest. Before you marry a woman: go to washroom with ber and tell her to wash her face. If she refuses: RUN. That means she looks nothing like she shows
That's cause most "males" in India don't have a well defined jaw and chin and that's why they all roam with beards to look good. Men with well defined good looking faces don't need a beard to look "good"
@@devansh7514 most men regardless of nationality and race don’t have good jaws what’s your point? @@Retrosenescent Andy Whitfield is nice looking, but something about Aidan Turner just hits different, for me. It could be the hair plus the overall face shape. He has a pretty boy look, which is what I like. 😊
I'm a 20 y.o. guy, without a beard, a lot of people guess I look 17 😆. But the thing is, I can't really grow a *good beard. Only a really patchy one. If I wanted to attract girls around my age, should I go clean shaven for aesthetics, or rock the patchy beard as it at least makes me look my age?
My partner would probably run naked through the streets than shave his face and I couldn’t be happier honesty. Also that repeat comment about class and intelligence is just bizarre. I’m a posh middle class English woman with a beard fixation. I don’t like 'rough' personality types or bad boy archetypes, typically finding them obnoxious. I can actually trace my attraction down to a really noble bearded character in media (Aragorn). Strong, clever and emotionally intelligent men in tune with their own masculinity (again, Aragorn) sometimes have beards. Thats what I’ve sought out. And men from any social class can embody those things or favour a beard on themselves.
Clean shaven, that is, no facial hair is my preference (as a Western Caucasian woman.) My instinct, on seeing male facial hair, is - what is he hiding? A recessed chin or bad skin? Does he have such lazy personal hygiene that he can’t be bothered to shave? ( Note how a male with no facial hair is called CLEAN shaven.) If he’s a chef, even worse- I then wonder: how many of his facial hairs landed up in the food that he prepared? Also, facial hair usually goes gray before the hair on the head so he looks older, much more quickly, too. That said, I find male underarm hair -( not chest hair)-quite honestly very sexy.
Was there no numeric value associated with each beard length? For example what length was short stubble supposed to be? 3mm? Long stubble 5mm? I'm curious
