Back in June, two of my RU-vid friends @kmadsmusic and @willimakemusic did a beautiful cover of "The Scale Theme" from Finding Paradise. I felt so inspired by them, that I reached out to kmads if she was interested in doing a cover of "Everything's Alright" from To the Moon, which is the predecessor of Finding Paradise. HUGE thanks to her for agreeing to do this with me despite being busy with other things going on in her life. She did such a wonderful job with the piano arrangement!!!! Her rubato and delicate touch really helped bring out the emotions of the song. She also has an amazing ear for helping me balance out the vocals and piano during the mixing process. I can't thank her enough for her hard work!!
Before the day of recording, I was actually feeling down. I tried to reflect those feelings in my singing by not worrying too much about hitting the notes perfectly. Instead, I went for a more breathier and fragile tone. I also recorded most of this cover in one take to make it feel more intimate. I only rerecorded things if my vocals didn't align with the piano. It was a bit challenging in that sense, but it was also freeing to worry less about technique and focus more on feeling this time around.
The original meaning of the song is quite sad (which I won't elaborate on in case you haven't played the game yet). I remember the moment when River and Johnny shared their first moment together under the moon. That scene brought me to tears because that was when everything leading up to that point began to make sense 😭 If you're searching for a short 'n sweet game with a sad story, I highly recommend To the Moon!
Okay, that's basically all I have to say. My thoughts were a little disjointed this time around haha. Next video will probably be another collab!!!
