Turn up the volume to hear the mating call of the Bearded Toadfish (Sanopus barbatus). Males call out to females to attract them to lay eggs intheir dens, where they will take care of them until they hatch.
I love the cameo by the banded coral shrimp! It seems like it was thinking about coming in for a cleaning, but decided against it after feeling/hearing the toadfish croak. Given how much those croaks reverberate at close distance, I don't blame the shrimp for rethinking that plan!
Just heard about these fish on the show Beyond The Unknown. The show recounted the story of a Bay Area town that freaked out because they heard these fish and had no idea what made the sound in the 1980s. How weird. It does sound like an A-10 Warthog jet firing its cannon.
oooooooo its face has such human “proportions”. or maybe cartoony? big round eyes, apparent “nose” in center of face, round “cheeks”, bow-shaped mouth, very familiar little teeth…
