That windscreen is assembled incorrectly. I just bought one, and it kept falling apart assembled as a square. The tabs should be tucked to the inner part of the windscreen, making the fourth and final piece a bit tricky to assemble. There is another video from another RU-vidr for more info.
@spiguyver I hope I did not not discredit your video in anyway. It was very good content, and wouldn’t have left a comment unless I appreciated the comment. Just trying to share the tribulations ( failures) of my experience using that particular product lol.
Hi Mark,Good video.😉I bought that Toaks alcohol stove last year. it came with a rounded mesh grill which I cut it down to get that 1” sweet spot. I got better efficiency and quicker boil times by doing so. I also have the Toaks wood stove. I’m thinking of using on section of the Toaks wood stove, use it as a wind screen and put the pot on top. All you need is to put something that act as spacer inside in order to get that 1” sweet spot. The idea is to have the wood and alcohol stove and use them according to the trail conditions. You can also nest the alcohol stove in the wood stove. Just an idea 😏
I have been using a fancy feast for years but had seen your stove for a while and I am afird disregarded it but last night I made this one and I have to say I am interested I will do sum time trial bit it seem very fast and it's much lighter than my feast thanks for your content and contouring the boail test like hirum use to do love it stoves keep it coming 😀😀😀
Great information. Can the pot stand go together with only 3 of the parts? If so,you could lighten it up by 25%, and maybe fit a smaller pot on it. That is assuming the burner still fits inside.
The pot stand seems to work well as a pot stand. As a wind screen it's about as useful as a chocolate fire guard with all the holes that are punched in it. ATB.
Nice video. ✔✔ 🙋 Just an fyi, a magnet is a very unreliable method to test the composition of a metal. For example, there are several types of stainless steel. Some are magnetic, others are not. If you do a Wikipedia search, you will see and I don't want to get all nerdy here. Just a heads up ☝☺😁✔
Thanks for that info. Their website does show it just the same sheen as what mine is, and they list the material as titanium, so I'm going to say they aren't lying! That is good to know though, and I appreciate the info!
someone needs to invent a very thin titanium fancee feast stove so it doesn't rust/corrode and we still have the option to replace the carbon felt every few years. That wind screen though I understand it needing to support a pot seems a bit overkill when they could just put some holes in the side of the ti like a super cat stove. they already have titanium wind screens that have proven to hold up and weight next to nothing.
Outdoor Adventures I agree completely. Also, when checking their website to verify that the potstand/windscreen was actually ti, I read the 2 reviews on there. Both had problems with the stand falling apart. I can see how that might happen. It’s not the greatest desing
It would be a better windscreen if you flipped it from the way you have it. But don't know how well it would work that way. I usually have my vent holes on the bottom.
The problem seems to be with the title of this review. It is not a stove and windscreen. It is a burner and 'pot stand.' It becomes a stove when the two components are combined. If protection from wind is needed, there are many 'windscreens' out there, of various designs and weights, that can be used in conjunction with this stove. Many of them are used in various RU-vid reviews of various stoves. Check them out and choose! The burner and potstand alone were never intended to be windproof. The pot stand is merely something to support a cooking utensil, at a suitable height, over the burner. Nuff said!
New subscriber here, love your videos. I'm thinking about getting the toaks siphon stove in addition to the bushbox UL pocket wood stove. However, I like to boil 3 cups at a time and every video I watch is 2 cups. Ultimately I'm looking for a set up that's efficient alcohol consumption and a lightweight wood burning backup. I think this set up will let me have both fuel options and still keeping the weight down. What are your options and have you tried 3 cups of water?
Thanks! Happy to have you watching the videos! I have not tried 3 cups with it. I believe it would take probably between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 oz of HEET to do it, but if you're using a pot with a wider base it might not. I can try it and let you know!
Okay, on 1.5 oz of HEET it will boil 3 cups of water in a controlled environment. The winds are currently 20-22 mph and so I took it outside to give it a try. With the design of the potstand it doesn’t block the wind well at all. The water got hot, but not really hot. No boil outside in the wind. I think with a real windscreen it would have been fine, but this shows the limitation of the system. The stove works well, but the potstand/windscreen is a bit of a let down.
Thank you so much Mark! I was worried about this. The design of the toaks pot stand is very similar to the "pocket" wood stove I am thinking of getting. As a pot stand and wood stove I think it will do fine, but by the sound of your test I will unfortunately have to include the titanium windscreen as well. Thanks again!
Hi Mark, Great video. Is there any concern using denatured alcohol to cook food? I’m debating switching to an alcohol stove but not sure about all the chemicals in the fuel. Probably a non issue but wanted to ask. Thanks!
I have never had any issues. I don't know of anyone who has had problems with the chemicals affecting their food. Not sure this helps, but I love the alcohol stoves!
Its expensive but I use pure ethanol with bittering agent so its not drinkable. Designed for indoor fire places with no vent so it doesn't produce toxic fumes either
Hello I bought a titanium alcohol stove but it doesn’t work properly. It doesn’t have pressure and the fire doesn’t come out of the little holes on the side. It toke 14 minutes to boil 2 cups of water. Do you know what way be the problem? I used 30ml of denaturalized alcohol.
Are you allowing it to come to a full bloom before putting your pot on top? Also, not sure the brand and purity of denatured alcohol, but sometimes that makes a difference as well. Are you doing it inside or outside, and are you using a wind screen?
@@SpiguyverBackpacking1 Te problem is the stove, I have home made CHS Stove that works great. I think mine has a leak on the top and the capillary system is not working
My guess is anodized aluminum, used in cookware and other applications. Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant, anodic oxide finish.
Good guess, but they list it on their website as titanium, it is laser etched with titanium, so unless they are looking for a lawsuit, I believe it's titanium. It's just a heavier version than they've used in the past. Thanks!
