Just heard this after many years, made me cry, I lost my lovely wife twelve years ago, and my partner three months ago, makes me think of my thoughts about them, both up in heaven. 😪😪
Súperb, beautiful, very nice Song ❤ Sehr schöner Song 😊 Noch nie zuvor gehört, aber die Melodie bleibt gleich im Ohr 😊 Danke für diesen tollen Classic Song 😊 Thanks and a ❤ from East/Germany 😊
My mom said she loved this song when she was 12. She says it sounded so much more romantic back then. Awwwhhhh my mom is so cute!!! This song is real sweet 💕
@@iansmith8263 I use to listen to this when it first came out. That was 50 years ago. I was just a teenager. I'm sadden that life has past by so fast. I'm sorry you lost your father.
In 1971 I was drafted ready to leave being shipped out with this on the radio. 50 years later I'm still here listening to Tin Tin and this song life is good!
THX, BRO, FOR DOING, A DANGEROUS, TIRELESS TASK~ AS KIDS,OF COURSE, COMIC BOOK, "TIN~TIN" THEN, THIS TRUE CLASSIC, A GIBB, PENNED IT~I LOVE, THE 2, BROTHERS, PULLED OFF, I STARTED A JOKE /1ST OF MAY~ SO DEPRESSING, ITS GREAT~ AN ERA, OF "ALONE, AGAIN, " OH, LOBO~A HEARTBREAK~UP~ART FUNKLES "ALL I KNOW"~ AND, OF COURSE, GOLD BORO'S"HONEY"LOTS OF VID CLIPS, IN MELBOURNE, REMIND ME SO MUCH, OF N.Z.(AOTEAROA)
I met John Vallins, Tin Tin's guitarist, at a party in Sydney back in the early 80s. Someone asked him to play it. He picked up a nylon-string guitar and played it, a lot more soulful jazz version than the recorded version. It was beautiful. I wish they'd released that version.
When I was a kid way back, I would sing this song, obviously never understanding the lyrics as such. It always seemed such an ethereal mood to me. Now as an older adult I still resort to singing it when I am super stressed out. Always calms me down. Ah, to go back to the '70s and sing it again as I skipped along the dusty roads of my hometown.
Although this came out in 71', somehow the tune reminds me of a girl named Sandy I knew in 1963. She was a musician, played violin, saxophone, and piano.
A Real forgotten gem !!!!!....I mean seriously how often do u hear this excellent song ???.not often....surprising really as it was produced by ( one of the Gibb brothers)think it was maurice....anyway great to hear this again....god bless and please dont forget to b kind to each other good karma so important and try to do something nice for someone no matter how small it may seem at the time it really does make a difference and it really does soothe the soul xxx 😇🥰😎❤❤❤
This is a very much old song, I heared it when I was inside in my mom's womb. As of my old age sitting with my rocking chair, I remember my past listening with this song 😄😄😄
The story goes...The Bee Gees had hired some recording studios. If I remember rightly, two them were ill and only Maurice had turned up. As to not waste the very expensive studio time, he offered to record Tin Tin instead. The song was not finished, hence one verse and the chorus, and so they recorded what they had. Maurice produced and played bass. Lulu's brother Billie Lawrie was involved too. Its a great song. Steve Kipner who was in the band went on to write and produce a myriad of songs and produce many artists. He is a real nice guy.
April 1971. This came out right about the time I started listening to pop music. It made it up to number 20, but I don't think I've heard it since 1971.
I love this song. I never knew the literal meaning of the title until I watched a video in which "tea" was explained as another term for dinner. As an American, the only "tea" I knew of was the drink.
Actually, "tea" is a break and a snack that English people enjoy in mid afternoon, with tea often served with scones and crumpets -- or toast. Since many upper-class English people don't eat dinner until mid-evening, it's necessary to eat something to keep going until then.
Tin Tin's Steve Kipner had an R&B outfit called Steve and The Board. Steve is the son of Nat Kipner an American who lived in Australia who wrote and produced records. Steve had a hit with a sort of a comedy record called "Giggle Eyed Goo" in 1966 which made the Top 10 in Melbourne. The follow up single, "I Call My Woman Hinges" made the lower end of the charts.
Absolutely!!!!!!....gorgeous song which unfortunately I believe wasnt even a hit either here in the uk or even in the states !!!!... possibly a hit in Australia?.....but anyway nevertheless what a beautiful song at least produced by the brilliant maurice gibb of the bee gees.....god bless everyone and please remember to try and b kind to each other as good karma is so important and it really helps to soothe the soul xxx 😇🥰😎❤❤❤
Interesting thing is that there’s no distinct verse/pre chorus/chorus.. basically it’s the one section that gets repeated and towards the end they employ key changes/modulations to lift it up to its peak.. (the old key change trick) but works perfectly in this song.. A Maurice Gibb Production for Robert Stiggwood
I LOVE this song!! I was a sophomore in high school when this song came out. It didn't seem to be very popular, but I thought it was beautiful. Excellent job enhancing it!
Thanks for the info. I vaguely remember this song when it first came out. I couldn't even tell you when I first heard it. But, it lodged somewhere in my subconscious, and when I heard it again maybe 10 years ago, it resonated.
@BURT- TV That some other guy was John Vallins, who also co-wrote "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late" with Nat Kipner (Steve's Dad) for the Johnny Mathis hit.
I remember hearing this when It came out when I was a kid and have always loved the song. It does sound like a song the bee gees would have written. A very soothing song for sure and one the reflected the music of the 60's and early 70's. Great enhancement by the way.
Wow - just wow. This was one of the first songs I attached myself to as a neo-teen. I can hear instruments I never heard before in the 45 RPM record I wore out decades ago! :)
Another forgotten gem !!...beautiful song produced by maurice Gibb of the bee gees , but unfortunately no chart success here in the uk or in the u.s I believe...maybe though in Australia....nevertheless still a classic...god bless and please dont forget to b kind to each other...good karma so important 😇🥰😎
Sprang to mind recently as if a Ghost...had to research lyrics just to know it was real...and surely no imagined fantasy could be this beautiful!!! It all came back to me! That is Pop Music!!!!
Great song. Many happy memories listening to this with my dad now long gone. Needs to be dusted off more often by radio stations - are you listening Radio 2?
Neon Blade Yes I think that’s what happened. Anyway that sound became a signature for them. There’s another track or two where they used the same effect. One is call “is that the way” from 1971.
@@NeonBlade : Yes, the story I heard was that the recording engineer had accidentally dragged his cuff against the tape reel, causing the warble -- but they liked the effect, so they kept it.
Was driving today and heard a Casey Kasem re-play of his AT 40 in 70's Sirius Radio and introduced the song for the 5/15/71 show. I was shocked and my eyes welled up to hear this little harmony marvel again. Got home and checked your great stereo restoration. Great JOB, Kenn~as usual. BTW, I forgive the late Mo Gibb bass intro delay. It could have not been comfortable to play the Rick with a bruised arm. Mo produced it, had Robert Stigwood accept a single contract to tape this: and won.. At this time, The Bee Gees were in heavy in orchestration which is reflected here as well. Progresses from G to A and finally, in B major. My day is complete now...
Excellent job. I have heard "Toast and Marmalade for Tea" many times over the years. But this is like I'm really hearing it for the first time. Great job.
This song is so beautiful! Hunted for the album and found it in Pittsburgh PA. Cost $10.00 for it and for some odd reason the album had a hole punched in it. Back then, it was lot of money, however you know how it is when you just have to have a particular song.
What a perfectly relaxing song. I just heard it for the first time on my local station and had to look it up. If I ever want to just lie down and sleep forever I think I would play this on a loop.
Great pick Kenn. Revived from another time and place. I probably heard this one when it charted - but I don't recall it now. And after some further research, I was right about the Gibb influence. I could hear that. And that wobbly sound was created by accident (an engineer leaned on a tape machine - creating that dreamy sound). Anyway, glad your back again Kenn . Your musical videos are like a great car restoration.
I thought the lyrics were “Oh and mama lays fatigued”. Wrong, its “Toast and marmalade for tea”. My God, I had not heard this lovely song in 45 years! Thank you for the upload and the incredible memories.
