Section of commentary audio from the Spider-man 3 Blu-Ray. I hope you guys like this, I thought it was really interesting how they react to this now-iconic scene from the movie.
I have always wondered what Tobey would think about all the poops made from his scenes. Some of them get so excessively well made, it's so funny. I feel like it'd give him a chuckle.
@@The_Quiet_Kiddo believe it or not, apparently, Sam regrets making this movie and considers it the worst of the 3. Whoever said that is a faker. The ral Sam would be proud damnit!
@@justapersonwithtrauma2947 I got it back then, but it just felt like they took the amazing "raindrops" scene from Spider-Man 2 and went too far trying to make lightning strike twice... Now it's ironically and unironically iconic, but back then it was just confusing lol.
@@justapersonwithtrauma2947 lol I'm pretty sure the 2007 people enjoys the scenes more than now do to weirdos thinking that it's ok to make parker some kind of Tony stark's side kick like tf?
He wasn't evil. That's another misconception. His emotional inhibitors were slowly being overshadowed by the symbiote. Basically, because it was attached to Peter, he leaned more towards his more primal human nature. He's still a dork, but he's now a dork who doesn't care about what other people think as far as his dorkiness. He's basically showing his ass this whole montage.
The symbiote doesn’t make him cool, it just gives him the confidence and the impression that he is cool. Now this is literally the meme epitome of cool.
My interpretation of it was that the suit didn't give him any physical power, it's true power was making him not care about anyone else anymore. He hid his identity to protect the ones he loves, he holds back because he doesn't want to kill the villians. The Symbiote gave him the ability to numb himself to that pain and just do what he wants to do. Does he look stupid dancing like that? Yes, does he care what they think? No, he's going to do it anyway.
@@jiaqili7238 i think the symbiote gave Eddie Powers because It bonded with Peter and copied spiderman's powers thats why of It had bonded with a human First It wouldnt have had those powers

@Jessica Lynn well yea but the point of the edgy Peter isn't supposed to be "oh look at how strange he is now" the suit gives him confidence and this is what a confident Peter would look like during his depressed times.
The worst part of this ? As a child I don't remember ANYONE not liking this scene. Every parents we where watching this movie with loved it and laughed every time. Somehow nerds online are the ones who misunderstood it, and tricked a whole generation into thinking that this scene was cringe.

I remember watching this in theaters and the whole audience just busted out laughing at this dance so idk why some people hate it because it really just shows how the venom symbiote made Peter into someone who didn't give a fuck what people thought about him
Oh I remember me and my friends did that dance moves after we watched the movie. Ik it's cringe, but it was fun back then. *shake* 2:58 *Not in the cinema btw, not so many ppl when we did that, not that cringe, not yet...

I think the point of this scene is supposed to make us cringe but at the same time brought out Peter's confident, he's awkward and dorky but that's totally fine and he's confident about it. They showed how ppl reacted, some find him weird but some is intrigued but it doesn't matter to Peter. And that's what makes him interesting and attractive, being confident.
I don’t care what anyone says; Tobey Maguire doing his little swag dance should be part of cinema history as one of the greatest scenes ever in a movie. Just for the sole fact that it is entertaining as heck.
I was saying this back in 2007 and they called me mad, MAD, they thought I was crazy as tits on a tiger, but now I drive a Ferrari, keep speaking the truth hombre.
The fact that Tobey and Sam came up with the idea of Peter getting distracted by Ursula's cookies and nuts while Dr Connors is feeding the audience information about how dangerous the symbiote can be, and that Peter would not care at all is just... amazing
Those "cringe" scenes are genius. I never understood why people were so mad about this when the movie first released. This is what Peter thinks is cool, because he’s a nerdy kid. It makes perfect sense.
GOD NO! PLEASE GOD NO!!! NOOOOOOOO!😂 Seriously though, I would get up and walk out of the theatre. This scene is the reason I can’t tell people that Tobey is my favorite Spider-Man. Because this is the first image that pops in their head😂😂
@@racingfuel28 Sorry for my English....this Scene and the Scene in Spiderman 2 with the Song Raindrops are iconic. They are the perspectives of Peter Parker of how the behaviour is of someone who is bad or normal
God, this trilogy was so ahead of its time. This level of subtle shitposty comedy and camp was so hard to notice or appreciate when it first came out. Now, it's so much more recognizable as the funniest fucking thing ever.
Tobey: “Sam said to bring the cool down” Sam: “I don’t remember that” Bully Maguire: “imma put some dirt in your eye” Sam: “wait wait yeah I remember, forgive me Peter”
What made the scene hilarious was that it was Peter’s interpretation of what he thinks the bad boy coolness is all about, but he actually comes across as even more of a geek. 😂
Not necessarily geeky but absurd id say. Like nobody has the balls to do this type of shit in public, yet a nerd who used to be so anxious and couldn't talk to ppl turned out into a person who doesnt give a fck lol
I never got why people hated these parts so much. Like, the symbiote caused him to basically be a complete opposite to himself and they incorporated that in a really fun way.
He's also pretty young in this montage cast commentary, so him sounding like he did as Peter Parker/Spiderman in 2007/8 makes Tobey much more nostalgic. & The fact that he is the best on-screen portrayal of Peter Parker. Dude lay the foundation for all the other Spiderman movies.
People hated this movie for this part, but really it just showed that an "evil" peter is still not that evil and is still dorky. Like this is as bad as he can possibly get because he's that good natured.
Yeah the way I understood it the symbiote only amplifies what's already there, and Peter was a genuinely good person so this was the limit of how bad/aggressive he would get due to its influence. Meanwhile Brock was already not the the greatest person, and was also dealing with the loss of his girl, loss of his career, and his hatred of Peter was intense even before the symbiote turned him into proper monster-faced Venom
Thank you!! He's such a goody-goody that when he tries to be evil, this is the result. Just a dorky guy who thought dressing emo was being a bad boy lol
@@spankbuda3084 read the fucking comments! Lol its literally like every other comment about how people hated this scene. Where'd you get your info, the freaking cosmopolitan? Or did raimi tell you all these things himself? Literally no one in this comment section is saying they hated it for any of the reasons you stated, also every top ten video or review video where this movie comes up they state they hated this movie, this scene in particular. So are the reasons you listed reasons why other people hated it, or is it just reasons why YOU hated it? Oh f*ck, i just realized im arguing with someone who assumes everyone has or should have the same viewpoint as them.
I heard this scene described once as “Peter Parker, who is a HUGE dork, thinking that all the cool kids behave like this, and the Symbiote is making him behave in a way that both of them interpret as cool.”
Funny how people back in 2007 misinterpreted this scene as Peter supposed to be looking cool when the intent was that this is what PETER thought was cool, and because we cringed, it succeeded at showing what an absolute dork he really is and that though the Symbiote corrupted him, the good Peter was still there. Of course now in 2022, this scene is legitimately cool and Bully Maguire is now seen as the ultimate CHAD meme machine
Hmm Clearly it was the suit fueling his ego and the rebellious actions after what happened with him and the girl. To think he did it just cus he thought it was cool is to avoid the context of it all. The alien suit made home in his ego, his weakness. Anyone who missed this missed a key point in the film.
This commentary confirms what I've always been saying, that many people didn't seem to get. Peter is a geek behaving how he thinks cool people behave, and it's being amplified by the symbiote. Tobey executed it perfectly.
same same. i always like this part.. i like this movie lol. but it showed peter is goofy… lol and emo. lol.. its what a guy like peter would think is bad ass lol. peter is a pure guy. lol
I said it in another comment but my theory was always that the symbiote had an aura which effected those around you making you appear more attractive or charismatic than you actually are. Which would explain why a lot of people in the movie thought bully Maguire is the coolest guy ever despite him acting like a complete clown for the whole time.
Also, it helps to be familiar with Sam Raimi, who in all of his films plays everything completely straight. It's a joke for the audience but the characters take it seriously. He doesn't have a wink moment at the camera so the audience understands it's in jest. But because it doesn't have that moment, it can sometimes fly over people's heads.
I swear if Tobey Maguire actually does come back in 'No Way Home', if you hear what sounds like a pterodactyl screaming coming from somewhere, don't worry it'll just be me.
Really cool to hear them talk about this with such great respect and honesty. Puts a smile on my face especially considering this is the Spider-Man I grew up on.
@@Jose-se9pu you see this a lot, when people don't like something they have to find some reason why besides "I just don't like it", it's like they don't want to blame themselves, and they do this by pointing toward incompetence, which is hurtful towards artists.
People can't see through any layers of irony or subtleness these days that's why they need MCU movies to literally shout the jokes in their face at every turn
@@sauldownbadman876 this movie also came out here when a lot of people were children this is a childrens comic book movie. 10 year olds weren’t watching for layers of irony. Not shamming what they did or discrediting the fact that Peter Parker is a nerd and wouldn’t gain coolness from a alien. But this also isn’t Seinfeld or an adult tv show. You have to know your audience. And kids recognize those MCU jokes which is why it sells more. Disney isn’t looking for a bunch of 40 year olds who get “their jokes they’re looking for money. The great Spider-Man even said “You want forgiveness go to church” “You want more adult jokes watch an adult movie”
Tobey Maguire recently held an AMA on Reddit and revealed that he's aware of the memes. He's neutral about that, but found the Bully Maguire videos a funny discovery.
Sam: I don't remember that part... Tobey (cute voice): Oh, you don't remember, Sam? Sam: I really... Bully Maguire: Shut up, chump, I missed the part where that's my problem
It brought confusion and disappointment when I saw it growing up 😂. How could they get it wrong? It was so easy. Just take out the corny Maguire scenes and get a muscular Eddie Brock. Bam. Great movie.
It was the sheer magic of Tobey's brilliant performance that made the people hate or get cringed by this scene. That was the goal to show how symbiote is affecting Peter, making him act all different than his usual.
“The geek flair was not an accident I had to add that- that was the toughest part of the whole thing! Sam actually kept saying you gotta bring the cool down” lmaooo😂🤣🤣
I think the issue is people wanted Peter to be like, really tormented and dark with the symbiote. Nobody predicted he'd be this weird campy goofball jerk. But the world is better for it.
Also, the scene is meant to be a contrast to the also corny "raindrops" scene in 2. I don't know man, I was like 13 when this film came out, and my siblings and I all knew that this scene was comedic. We laughed our asses off. But then it became really cool to hate this movie, so I kind of kept my opinion to myself. It didn't help that Batman Begins came out a couple of years before it and that TDK changed everything for a good 7 years before superhero films could get goofy again (GOTG). I'll always have a soft spot for this film.
James Franco telling Tobey that "there's a geek flair to it but you actually have some moves" was a wholesome moment. Like Harry being a bro to Peter in real life.
Bully Maguire is such an anomaly, it started off being hated, then memed ironically, then sort of appreciated ironically, to now just being liked and appreciated sincerely, it's come full circle. Edit: I'm amazed at the amount of likes. But more amazed at the amount of people replying saying either it was always hated or that they never hated it 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much for posting this. I had no idea this existed. It’s really interesting to see how their take on it from before it became a meme is similar to how we all see Bully Maguire now.
That's because Franco in real life is that old pervert from family who tries to seduce Chris. He's a super villain creep! He was sexually assaulting chicks worse than Quagmire from family who else but Quagmire. Giggty giggty!
I always loved this scene because it's hilarious and EXACTLY how he would be acting at this time. People who hate this scene clearly don't understand that it's supposed to be cringey and over the top to communicate the symbiote is exaggerating Peter's personality to an extreme level. He's loving every moment of himself, not realizing how much his behavior has changed from who he is and how dangerous that is.
It's not that Peter's acting cool-it's that he's acting like what _he thinks of as_ "cool", and once you realise that, the genius of the comedy at work here becomes way more apparent.
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 I have to disagree-the fight at Harry's place is a really dark moment, and following it up immediately with the funniest comedy beat in the trilogy makes Peter seem too unsympathetic. I think it works a lot better coming right off the triumph of taking that smug prick Brock down a peg.
@@DistractedGlobeGuy The entire point *is* that Peter is an unsympathetic asshole. That’s kind of the point with the Symbiote affecting him in a hugely negative way so he’s not who he was before that OP kinda hinted at, and it better foreshadows him striking MJ later
I disagree. I understand that it's suppose to be cringe, but it comes right after he breaks into his former best friends house, ending with him flinging a live grenade at Harry, which goes off right in his face. At that point, Harry could be dead (and should be but you know plot armor) so it didn't feel like a good transition.
