SPOILERS FOR DGS2, FIRST HALF OF EPISODE 5 Then you finally examine it that one time and your mind just fucking explodes. Really showcased how DGS2 was absolutely one of the best, if not, the greatest Ace Attorney game.
Yeah. That made literally any seemingly peaceful or innocent development cause for a potential heart attack. Susato: "Hey Ryu, I baked you a pie!" Ryu: "Aww, thanks!" *Susato's pie has been added to the court record* Ryu: ..... *gulp* Susato: "...you OK?"
He's actually the one of the most evilest ace attorney characters because he's running around the poor backend slums of London with an infinite supply of fish and chips all to himself.
Gregson - Why do I do what that girl says? That little girl wrote one statement about (S)Holmes saying I'm the most competent officer at Scotland Yard and my pay doubled. DOUBLED. Think what would happen if she were to write something else?
@@Gabowsk Honestly? I think the exact opposite may have happened. Remember the intro cutscene of 2-4? The victim was described as a nobody. I'm betting Iris did not kill off Greggy in her books based on Herlock's adventures, but instead has him live on through her writting.
Or to be more accurate, a competent detective that is always portrayed as competent and not as a competent person that has you guessing if he’s competent or about to do something weird but is, in the end, actually reliable when needed.
Probably one of the most tragic characters in the game, constantly getting pulled into the shittiest situations possible through his duties. And the worst part is Ryunosuke only learns about them after forcing everything out into the air, through Gregson or by piecing it together with what he leaves for you. He never really gets to talk about his place in the world when surrounded by these characters with larger than life ambitions and it makes him feel like such a humble man
It was Jigoku’s one mistake. If he hadn’t have put it back in Gregson’s pocket no one would have suspected the time of death being altered and he would have gotten away with Gregson’s murder.
@@art-cs6us yeah but they probably would dismiss it anyway, like i don't think it would be accepted as evidence best thing jigoku should have done is just buy another goddamn fish n chips
I mean we have gumshoe who is incompetent as a detective (no wonder he got the salary cut), emma who certainly not interested to become a homicide detective and more interested in snacking, fulbright is basically gumshoe 2.0 before the plot twist
0:53 - 1:05 feels really melancholic to me, for some strange reason. Like it feels like Gregson is really suffering and the only way it’s expressed is through his theme
@@rohandatta7111 Dude, SHUT UP. You've been plastering that spoiler(the one NOBODY FUCKING ASKED FOR) all over the damn comment section. At least have the courtesy to use a warning. These games are still very new to western/English audiences.
SPOILERS--- Gumshoe is Gumshoe, but I think Gregsy is even better in his own way. We see him involved in plenty of good ol fabricating evidence and corruption from nearly the very beginning, and in multiple cases, but his death is still one of the most painful in the series. There are corrupt characters that end up sympathetic, but not lovable, like part of the family. The parallels to Gumshoe as the kinda comic relief helpful cop are obvious, but character wise he feels complex and central enough to be a Godot or something on top of that. I've felt emotional about plenty of other deaths, but nothing still makes my stomach churn like imagining this poor dude curled up right there while we're watching a friendly reunion.
You can tell he's written well because despite all he did, he's never treated like a villain. His arc is essentially a villain plot twist and yet when we see him die it's _horrifying_ . It's the death of a friend. It's the death of family. He sinks to a level of Stronghart's machinations and yet it's impossible to see him as one of the worst villains because it's _Gregson_ . He's just a silly guy who loves his fish n chips and yet he's also the reason for Genshin being falsely found guilty. He's the mind behind the 15 deaths to the Reaper. He struck a deal that would result in Gina's death, with a man who he realised was committing high treason. And despite all this, he's just a silly guy who loves his chips.
*Sproleirs uwu* Jigoku was really well done. Nobody would ever expect him to be relevant, since no Judge in the franchise has been. And then, when he's formally introduced in the last case, he's shown to be that goofy uncle everyone loves. I was actually pretty sad when he turned out to be Gregson's killer, really liked both of them.
Well thats certainly a spoiler. Im still in DGS 1 and this comment basically tells me everything I need to know about what will probably happen in DGS 2. Should have probably made this Spoiler marked immediately.
If Capcom makes a TGAA 3 I want Gina's theme to have gregsons mixed in like the professor and kazumas that would be so sweet and I would so cry to that
Boy o boy I sure do love Greggsy! He played a great role in the last case of adventures I wonder what he’s gonna get up to in resolve. In all honesty he’s my favorite character in the whole Ace attorney series. If anything bad happens to him I will throw my Nintendo switch in a lake.
Spoilers Ah yes, the theme of one of the coolest detectives. Also the theme of the guy dead 3 meters in front of me hidden in the trunk of a guy I thought I could trust in a moment I thought was just harmless fun. Yep no emotional trauma there.
Spoilers for TGAA2-5: I ready ended up loving Gregson as a character. He's far from perfect, but you can tell that he was slowly cracking, wanting to be a better person. While he contributed with an assassin ring, he unironically ended up being the one who helped with putting a stop to Stronghart. He went out of his way to confess that Genshin's case had fake evidence to Kazuma, and if he never did that, Stronghart wouldn't have been defeated. We also saw in the flashback how he's angry at Stronghart for choosing to fabricate evidence. He also tried to escape from London with Gina, probably being afraid that she becomes the next target for the reaper organisation. And in case 2-3, he went out of his way to allow Ryonosuke and the rest to investigate the scene of Enoch Drebber hiding place, even though the rules were that only the Forensic Team can investigate that. He even stood up to Dr Sithe, telling her in the face that it was thanks to Ryo and his friends that Enoch's hiding place was discovered thanks to them. At the end, Gregson was a man doing his job and what he was told, even if it were dark stuff. But he was slowly cracking out of that. And the tragic part is, he died before he ever got the chance to fully change and crack out of all that dark world. He's a character who practically died mid-redemption. A man who was faited to change, who was showing signs of such change, but die before he could fully do so.
*Before you read my comment any further, make sure you've played through both Adventures and Resolve first. Otherwise this'll spoil something major for ya.* Man...Gregson is the type of character where the more you progress through the game, the more ya can't help but to start enjoying his presence every time you see him. Which made it all the more heartbreaking and a massive jab to the gut to the player when he winds up being the murder victim in the second to last case of Resolve. Doesn't help that I grew to love Gina too as a character so seeing her absolutely depressed as a result of his death was an extra blow to the gut for good measure. What I found to be the most disturbing part of that whole case was the fact that this man that you grew to get to know throughout the entirety of these two games, was practically right in front of you at the very beginning of the 4th chapter as a deceased corpse inside Jigoku's luggage chest. Hell said luggage is even in the group picture which makes what is meant to be a nice moment at the time, so much more morbid and creepy. I can't say I was ever that much attached to Gregson myself, but he was definitely a pretty fun character to talk to. His actions by the end are messed up, but it was certainly good to know that before he had passed away unexpectedly, he was planning to get himself back on the right track for Gina's sake. I can't say he'll ever hold a candle to the dorky modern day Detective in Gumshoe (or Ema for that matter) but he didn't need to cause he was on a whole different level of cool all on his own. Rest In Peace you Fish n' Chips loving Detective. May your memory forever live on in your role within the Holmes/Sholmes stories for so many years.
I keep telling myself "He would've died of age anyway." so I wouldn't cry. That's another detective to add to capcoms basement of characters you'll never see again
Spoilers for DGS2: In the last case of the first game when the two brothers accused are "pretending" to form a trio with Gregson, was it a foreshadowing that he was really working with criminals in the shadows and not just some silly gimmick?
@@XenithXenaku Actually, wasn't is about someone else? Cus I'm pretty sure Sherlock Holmes is a public domain at this point, with how long it's been. Might be wrong though, so don't quote me on that.
For those who haven't completed Chronicles (Resolve) yet, DO NOT READ THE COMMENTS AND REPLIES! Someone is posting spoilers on the replies and it ruins the experience for everyone. It's a guy named Rohan Datta. With an OREO profile pic no less. (If this Rohan Datta thinks of changing his profile, think again. You're already recognizeable as the "person who ruins experiences by spoiling", let that sink in.) So until you absolutely played and finished Resolve, DO NOT READ ANY COMMENTS OR REPLIES! Good day, and continue jamming to this amazing tune.
@@leonmystique9372 honestly if somebody gets spoiled because watching comments it's their fault. I always avoid watching comments when I have not finished the game yet.
@@mikapoful It does, and sometimes curiosity get the better of them. I haven't played Resolve yet, but even if I know the spoilers I won't even bother ruining everyone's time because they need their experiences.
SPOILERS . . . . . . . . . . . It's amazing how important and involved this man became. I should had known it with how melancholic his theme turns. It's also pretty cool how the song has bits of AA1's Investigation theme
spoilers for GAA2 C5 i hope that i was not the only person who realised that the government secrets that gregson was attempting to keep secret was an assassination plot against him that he was unaware of
Well to be fair, you should catch up and finish the game before worrying about spoilers. The rule is to never look at a comment section for anything unless you finish the topic.
@@Samstar369 When the spoilers literally are "oh i feel sad about what happens to him in DGS" thats just not acceptable. First of all this theme is also in the first game,so directly talking about anything from the second game that might be big spoilers is a no go right off the bat,and if you do want to talk about it you can at least do a spoiler warning beforehand.
@@Shazam1998 Yeah that anoys me this Morons all over in the Comments destroy the second game for all the People that want to play it this here is the MUSIC from part 1... So Stop Writting stuff that freaking Spoilers part 2
@@Shazam1998 I meand come on did i really needed to know that Something will happen to the inspector IN PART 2 did i had to ?... I just wanted to chill to the music
Not sure if anyone will get this but when trying to search up for this theme I accidently typed "Tobias Funke". Both men have amazing mustaches after all
It's a great theme, but dang it, I cannot listen to this and not immediately recognize the beginning as the investigation theme of Dual Destinies. (Note: Massive spoilers in replies!)
@@thesaltgod Nope. The beauty of this is that even if you already played the game, someone who hasn't finished it might come along and read this spoiler, effectively ruining major twist for them.
after finishing Resolve this song fills me with so many different emotions that it's almost difficult to listen to despite being an absolute banger of a song.
If I would make an tierlist of detectives in ace attorney games, I would put Gumshoe in S+ and Gregson at S. SPOILER WARNING!! I miss him, even when he was kind of a criminal....
@@spyro05 He wasnt a criminal ... he thought he was doing the right thing on behalf of that Mael Stronghart asshole.....in the end he planned to do the right ... He wanted to start a new life with Gina
I just realised it takes both Tobias GREGSON and Gina LESTRADE to make up the ACTUAL detective in the books Gregson Lestrade. I know it's very obvious but I think it's a cool idea that the responsibility is split between the two.
Isn’t Tobias Gregson a minor character in the Sherlock canon? In any case it helps that Lestrade has only been known as G. Lestrade, so your theory still works.
@@Multienderguy37 If I recall correctly Inspector Lestrade's full name and title is only ever described as Inspector G. Lestrade. With no mention made of what the G. in their name is.
If you haven't finished both of the DGS games, don't go into any replies in the comment section, there's this Rohan Datta guy with an Oreo profile picture who spoils basically every big twist in the second game. If you have played through both of the DGS games, I ask that you report any messages he leaves in the future as spam so that he won't spoil anyone here. I hope this helps.
MASSIVE SPOILERS Was Gregson is the only character in the Ace Attorney who's already well established, interacts with the player and main character a lot, and then suddenly killed off? I don't remember another important character that got murdered...
Argumenter_Respecter I remember a decent amount of interaction with her at Hazakurain before the murder. It's been over a year since I finished T&T so I'm not really confident now.
TGAA2 spoilers, I guess Yes he did, he did many wrong things and he acknowledged them in the credits. He was doing his best to turn over a new leaf during the scientific invention case though and he was one step away from a new life in France. A shame he was robbed from it, even Sholmes was sad that he couldn't protect Gregson.
Also spoilers: That only counts as far as his treatment for Gina Lestrade goes. He did not have to make her part of the police force especially since she perjured, but I guess the complex circumstances of the McGilded case (specifically, McGilded’s coercion of Gina) was good enough for Tobias to take her in. Apparently he took great care of her, and I guess because of that Gina was not angry with Tobias for even taking part of etc. For all the faults he had in being a co-orchestrator of the conspiracy he did take good care of Gina when raising her to be an inspector.
@@lenarratorsocietyofsuperio2731 and I'm sure soilders / police never hurt others. The important part is he was ordered to by his Job. He didn't do it because he wanted to it was a tarrible misdirection for the true villinuos mastermind.
Just a reminder to people that haven't finished the game, stop reading the comments right now on any related content video of this game since there is a person who keeps spoiling the game. Also dont try to open fandom or wikia about this game. All characters in this game have spoilers. I've done that and I regret it instantly.
Spoilers for the whole game: When I rewatch the walkthroughs of the game and reach the part where Ryuu and Su meet Mikotoba and Jigoku, I always want to say “Oh you don’t wanna know what or, to be precise, WHO is in that large trunk…”
Ace attorney characters are really good at making a bad first impression and then really growing on me a lot and I think Gregson might take first place for that honestly
That dude's an absolute failure of a human being. Man's life but must be so pathetic if he truly takes joy in ruining a story for others. Such a disappointment.
