his prosecutor is superb.....calm, collected and stating the facts coherently for the jury, as well as we all viewing this case hear....job well done for Barb.....wish there were more like him...superb job..ty
There’s an ages-old fraud in the windshield business where the glass installer bills the insurance company $1200 for a $550 replacement and then refunds the customer their deductible portion of say $500. This is often done when a friend or customer or business associate wants a new windshield because it is scratched up from age but not broken. The installer smashes the windshield in the customer’s driveway or elsewhere, the customer claims unknown vandalism, the insurance company does not investigate because the claim is too small, and the customer gets a free windshield while the installer makes a pretty good day’s pay. This is why an auto glass installer would carry a 53” iron pipe in his trunk...in case anyone was wondering. It’s also one of the many reasons why your auto insurance premiums are so high.
ShoeUnited: Yes, I agree but you have to keep in mind this couple did several extensive house renovations over the years and would very likely have pulled out old cast piping somewhere in the process. Keep also in mind that her DNA was all over that pipe even though she had no injuries consistent with a strike from a pipe and there was no trace of blood found on the pipe. That means that she had handled the pipe in the past and that it did not come from some random truck. Also, a cast iron pipe is extremely hard and would deliver a much more abrupt and damaging blow to a windshield than an aluminum baseball bat which is quite light and shock absorbent, or a poker which tends to be a bit light and flimsy for the purpose. As a windshield installer he would know this.
Amalia G: Not sure if they did but they went to some lengths to debunk the possibility of the pipe flying off a truck as described, and even though the crime scene reconstructionist’s physics explanation was extremely faulted (different video) he still came up with a pretty close approximation that virtually proved the impossibility of the defendant’s story. He probably had someone else work out the answer and then wrote it on his wrist, lol.
The reason why he did not confess was denial and shame. Like he said they probably never had a fight before. Maybe this was thevreason he overreacted so much and killed her. He was never in a fight, he didn't know how to handle stress, how to control rage, how to hit a person only once and stop. Some things cook up in you for years. Sometimes it's little things, but when they overlapp for decades the outburst can be still terrifying. He snapped, killed her and couldn't believe that it happened so he was stuck withban unbelievable story. He couldn't face his own crime. Couldn't face his kids with the truth. He couldn't confess.
I concur for the most part and think your assessment is accurate. Uncontrollable rage for sure. But you can't believe anything Mr. Kendhammer says. They most certainly argued in the past, because that is natural. What married couple doesn't argue occasionally? That he represents they didn't means they definitely did.
@@zmancan5290 to be honest, I disagree. I know it sounds strange, but I actually know couples like these. I've been married for many years and argued with my wife countless times. And most of my friends have relationships and arguments just like these. It really is natural. But I know a few couples that are exceptions from this. Couples that claimed - I believe, quite sincerely - that they never had a fight over anything. Not even over little things. That's just how they are, and how their relationship works. So even though I know that this guy can't be trusted, I really believe that him when he says they never argued. It actually makes more sense this way. If you never argue, you can never learn the limits of your own anger and how to manage it. All the more reason for it to burst out of all control when you finally break.
At the risk of repeating myself, PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE, DONT HIDE ANYTHING! There's no reason for the countless lies this man has told, except to hide his guilt.
@ShoeUnitedWow LOL....I mean, come on! Youre being facetious...right? I think we're talking apples and oranges here. There's clearly a difference between maintaining your privacy and personal info, and blatantly lying about pertinent information to the police during the investigation of your wife's death...
This prosecutor was really good. And if I was on the jury with the defendants testimony on the stand alone telling lie after lie after lie I would find him guilty..
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, have you reached a verdict? Yes, we have, Your Honor. We, the jury, find the defendant, quilty. "Do you mean guilty?" " Oh, yeah. Well, it kind of looked like it was a "Q."
He asked and/or demanded several times to ride in the amberlamps saying she gets scared wen she's alone but she wouldn't be alone shes with the best people for her @ that time. The EMS said they didn't want him in there and he still bothered them, wen they were performing life saving measures, several more times saying he's got to go with her. He was just fearing she would wake up and start talking. Thanks for the upload!
4 Dub , maybe he just wanted to be by his wifes side. They had bbeen together EVERY day for their entire marriage. Literally. He jjust didnt want her to be alone at her hour of death. Wtf is wrong with that?. He was ounching outnthe window in order to loosen the pipe or clear glass. Im still waiting for the smoking gun to drop.
@@missionron Hoping you have figured out by now that it was as stated, he wanted to ride Ambo to make sure she didn't wake up and tell them he was trying to murder her. He is SO GUILTY, very easy to see n hear that's why he got the BIG 30 and that's not age, it's PRISON TIME !🎈🤪🎉😜🎊
@Beauty Songz Amber lamps are lights that illuminate a yellowish color. They are excellent in use during rain or foggy conditions to see and be seen while driving.
His own lies got him convicted. Why lie about going to replace the windshield with specifically saying the guy would leave the keys in the car? The guy knew nothing about it. That's the stuff that convicted him. The fact that he never gave his wife a minute to herself just adds to his instability. I don't think they got it wrong
@Rainey J. Yeah a "perfect' marriage 4 him because he was incontrol of everything but for Barb it was a miserable marriage till the day he killed her, IMO he killed her because she said DIVORCE
Indeed, I remember a ‘friend’ announcing that her marriage was ‘perfect’ to later discover that she made all the decisions and her husband was entirely compliant. Horrible, just horrible. Poor Barb
Yes I was looking at him studying the prosecution's clear description of HIS crime and he's chewing his lip like, oh yeah he nailed it. Ol Todd is reliving his crime thinking how badly he screwed it all up.
Of the many trials I’ve watched, this judge is firm and professional when needed then thoughtful and compassionate in others. I’ve seen real asses being rude asf to witnesses unfamiliar with the court proceedings and state biased ones that make me sick but this judge is a shining example that many many others should adhere to. The states closing statement really ties this all together and clearly lays out the guilt of a man that ruined many families lives.
I have watched everything from start to finish, I think he is innocent. Absolutely circumstantial evidence only...reasonable doubt. Prosecution couldn’t even provide evidence that provided a believable motive
Vivian La First: There’s no requirement for prosecution to show or prove motive although it could be used as one more piece of evidence to prove guilt. The prosecution’s only job is to prove a crime occurred and that the accused committed that crime.
These are just some of the questions and things that imo indicated to me he is guilty. Why was there no flatbed truck on that road within a half hr before and after todd said this went down? Why was barb in the vehicle and not at work? Why did todd say she could go in late when that wasn't true and she NEVER went in late to the point that her coworkers were freaked within 5 mins of her not showing up? Can you feed the children at school late on Friday? How does that make sense? Even if any of his explanation of y she was in that vehicle with him made any sense, where were they going? Why were they going to a dudes house to replace a windshield on a vehicle owned by a totally diff individual who wasn't at the homeowners house? Why didn't the dude have any idea todd was going to his house? Why did the dude say he mentioned this totally diff individual MIGHT want his windshield replaced and when todd followed up the dude said nvm, and was told todd didn't have that windshield anymore anyways ? Why was there no replacement windshield in todds vehicle? Can't replace a windshield that way. Why was there blood on the rear tire? Why was todds truck accessed while in that field after the supposed freak accident and y did todd not mention or explain this? Why did the pipe have a substance/residue that was also found and matched inside his trunk? Why did todd have fingernail scratches on his neck and back and why did barb have defensive wounds And messed up fingernails with todds dna under them?
I liked the ‘analogy’ the prosecution used when referencing how long it took for Todd to call 911. “A boxing round is 3 minutes, you can do a lot in 3 minutes. How many punches can you throw in 3 minutes?”.
How the heck did Her Family believe anything that came out of his mouth!!!!! O He Was Loving and Sweet!!!!! Bull ….. That was the picture he painted…. Like Chris Watts!!!! He is as Passive as Chris Watts!!!!! And as GUILTY!
Prosecutor: “Todd, that was a lie, wasn’t it?” Todd: “No, it was not a lie.” Prosecutor: “It wasn’t the truth, was it?” Todd: “No, it wasn’t the truth.” 😳😳😳 Todd does an amazing amount of lying for a guy that both his family and Barbara’s think he was a great guy. In actuality, he seems to be a worthless piece of garbage.
no concentric marks on the back of her head consistent with the pipe, so he probably whacked the back of her head with a blunt-force tool that he threw far away and they didn't find it or somehow stashed it somewhere or it was a common item ---- so how you might ask? I don't think she died at the ditch, I think she was taken there in her condition and he ditched the murder weapon somewhere else -- the problem is the murder weapon could be anywhere because he put the police on wild goose chases and we'll never know where he ditched the murder weapon, which again, could be a common household item and no one would ever think anything about it or ever find it....it's not a gun. Hope that helps.
@@dabneyoffermein595 You don't think the prosecution had every place where the killing might have taken place tested for evidence? Or do you think he killed her elsewhere but inside the car? Really hard to hit someone hard enough to break their skull and cause brain damage from inside a car.
She must have been a terrible mother for her children to support the man who brutally beat their mom to death . I get people are in denial but the evidence is overwhelming!!!!
Watching later in life but way afar. Seen all the comments. The lot of the people that see American justice and all conspiracy, slow your boat. This trial will for a hundred years show good law good enforcement and
So was the son in on this somehow? Cause he clearly lied about having his phone that morning, when in reality Todd had it. Or am I misunderstanding something?
Todd had no trouble recalling or remembering what he didn't do! He answered all questions suggesting a crime with an emphatic NO! They blamed his forgetfulness and mistakes on stress and medication but again he never seemed to make a mistake or forget something that implied he might be guilty!
Oh he knew from the first interview they were trying to pin a murder on him. I like his realization in the room when he figured out thats what they were conspiring to do. On the stand he knew well he was fighting for his life at that point.
What did he hit her with? The medical examiner said it was the head injuries that killed her. But apart from the pipe, there was nothing around that could have caused such an injury, he certainly couldn't do it with his hands. On the other hand, how can you 'knock' an automatic into reverse? You can do it with a stick, but in an automatic you need a foot on the brake before the selector will move.
I would estimate that the defense cost would have been $50,400.00 (just for the actual trial) , just an estimate based on Attorney Hurley being at $350/hr. and his colleague Bednarek at $250/hr so $600/hr. multiplied by 7 days at 12 hours per day. So in your opinions, did he get his money's worth? Now of course, that's just for the trial itself, nevermind the preparation for the trial,,,which is WAY more time than the trial itself, lol. Also, I am not including travel expense (food & lodging), expert witness costs, paralegal costs, administrative costs, etc. Honestly, I think the defense team did as good as you could possibly do. That's just my opinion. It was a far-fetched reach to get us to believe he didn't do it, but again, I think Hurley did very well. He's a consummate professional.
@@chelleglenney156 but i thought the Kenhammer's had a lot of money, flipped homes, continued to move into bigger houses, had "the life" if the trial is any indicator (unless I missed something).
I’ve watched all of the footage available and still don’t know of the story that shows guilty. Would you be so kind to tell me the part where there was absolutely without a doubt evidence or testimony.
@@Love-bo3df He lied many many times in his stories. Nothing made sense how he said she got the skull fracture in the back of her head with many lacerations. The pipe did not go through the windshield, his knuckles he said he "HIT" on the windshield to block the pipe BUT it was his left hand that had all the abrasions, not right hand knuckles which make more believable. There are MANY MORE inconsistencies
Struggling to hear prosecuting attorney’s closing statements. Can someone not increase volume so we do not haemorrhage struggle figuring out what is being said!!!!????
@@SarahBoonesPencil Not even that was the biggest piece of evidence....It was all his lies!! His made up story where he was going, changing his story at trial. All lies.
Did anybody else see the 48 Hours episode on this case? It seemed, to me, to be saying that Todd Kendhammer is an innocent man who was wronged by a zealous police department, an overbearing prosecutor, and incompetent defense counsel. I disagree. I would never want an innocent person to be sitting in prison, but that just seems absurd to me. Todd’s story makes no sense. He says that his story about where he and Barbara were going that morning kept changing because he was so distraught. Sure, if I was just involved in a traumatic experience I probably wouldn’t even remember my own name immediately afterwards. But a year later at trial, Todd still can’t get his story straight about where they were headed. Then he says that Barbara was “flailing her arms around when she was struck by the pipe.” 🙄 Sorry, but that only happens in cartoons. 🤦♀️ Imagine how you would react if an object came flying at you; you would instinctively put your hands up to block your face. Then after you were struck by the object, you would try to pull it off of you, not just sit there with a pipe in your face flailing your arms around. Or you would be unconscious, in which case you wouldn’t be able to flail your arms around. Maybe I’m wrong, but I believe Barbara was not killed by a flying pipe.
kathi smith have you ever seen a dead body? If really beaten to death she would have had more than pinkish discolouration, the marks were so slight the coroner had to wait til the second day of death so it would show better in photos.
@@Love-bo3df it's relatively easy to kill someone without swelling and she wasn't beat to death in the sense your thinking of the first initial blow to the back of the head was hard enough to fracture her skull and render her unconscious and then it's just a matter of stopping her breathing and that's what this murderer done
I wonder why, whenever anyone has stated doubt in the prosecutions argument, they are attacked, insulted and ridiculed with extreme prejudice by the same 2-3 people? It seems strange to me that when another story is told which is just as believable, for some reason certain people don't want you to have that in your head for a second. Why is that? It seems really odd.
The hole was created by the pipe. The question is, how? Kendhammer has no explanation for why there was already a series of concentric cracks in the windshield before it was properly punctured about six inches away. There was further damage to the windscreen supposedly caused by his hand as he reached over to prevent the pipe from hitting his wife.
Prosecutor guesses that Todd took it out of his trunk. I listened to Todd’s cross numerous times. Still, a 53 inch long pipe in a small car? Guess it didn’t matter to the jury.
@@patriotbella We have a really small car and our trunk could hold that. I'm always amazed how deep it goes when we find something big at a garage sale and I'm sure it will never fit.
I think it was financial frustrations; living above their means. He was stressed about his own possible deception with the finances and just beat her when she said the wrong thing at the wrong time .
@@TheleastofHis Maybe he had been harboring anger for years or maybe she told him she wanted a divorce. He couldn't handle that (how dare she??) He was so angry, he lost his sense & beat her to death & then he had to explain her dead body. Why ruin your life & many others???? Let the other person just leave!!! But.......PRIDE comes before a fall......a HUGE fall in this case!
watchgoose: Possibly none. Sometimes people lash out in a rage and do regrettable things. Despite Mr Kendhammer’s quiet demeanour it was established by his own admission that he had lost job after job because he couldn’t get along with people and was about to be bumped to night shift on his current job for the same reason and that his wife was not very happy with this. It might have been his STORY that was “too perfect”, not his marriage.
3:16.., invoking a fictitious individual offering a fictitious quote as evidence, yanno you've lost the high ground and are clutching at straws!.., yet the prosecution wins the case.
29:45 Looks like reality is finally hitting him. He is really emotional here hearing what he did to her. Compare that to the comical sad face he produced when on the stand.
Well of course you would find out if she’s breathing before CPR :/ he said she was mumbling and he started chest compression? Tf? He keeps saying he was trained ....the First thing they say is to call 911
Knuckles were pretty badly cut up, she should have had more than 1 inch long bruises here and there. Also if he did hit her hard enough to cut up his own hands how come she wasn’t cut up from the punches. Doesn’t add up
Her nose was broken. Her lips where swollen. She was punched more than once in the face. Plus she fought back. Who knows what else he hit durning the rage,
What's there motive?! Have you ever been in an accident and felt all the pain after? A trauma series you're memory. I don't think prosecution proved their case.
@@alex123case I think @Daisy May was thinking the premeditation was not taking her to work, him taking the road trip to the guys truck and waiting 3 minutes to call 911.
Wrong Mr. Prosecutor, those injuries to his wife are consistent with being a passenger in a car that suddenly hit the brakes hard. My GF has the same Toyota, and when I'm driving her somewhere, she sits sideways unbelted in the passenger seat with her left leg tucked under her right leg with her left ankle under her right knee and calf. I tell her she needs to put her seat belt on or she might eat the dashboard and I'll have to pry her head out from the windshield. I don't think Todd is sophisticated enough to know how to make a pipe entry hole in the windshield and another inertia impact next to it. I think that the pipe was a "cheater bar" that fell off the truck and took a bounce and went into Todd's windshield. I think the truck driver saw it and immediately started taking side roads to keep their license. I think Todd cut the back of his hands trying to pry her head from between the dashboard and the shattered windshield. I'm sure there are crash test that show what happens when an unrestrained passenger is throw forward at 50 mph. The torso moves upward and forward, head tilts down and strikes the windshield with the back of the head, the torso forces the head into the windshield and follows the contour into the dashboard, breaking the nose and blunt trauma to lips and mandible. The torso is also crushing the windpipe and breaking one or both collarbones. If Todd planned everything that way he should be working for the Automobile Safety Institute! Todd needs another attorney.
The prosecution is either sick or over this case or both. He isn't talking w/ conviction nor is he passionate. I feel like I'm watch a 5th grader presenting his essay
I like his non theatric straight to the point style. Made him seem very credible and professional. He's sick of Todd and his ignorant family I'm sure but his closing was superb to most.
The pompous prosecutor should be made an example of and lose his pension or penalized in a strong way if the case is over turned he was a completed J A and should maybe spend a few month in jail himself!
