When something falls off the car/truck in front of you, you barely have time to react. Let alone 'reach out, punch a windshield and try to catch it'. On the passenger side no less.... this guy is a liar from the get go.
My God! The evidence is all over his body! May that poor lady rest in peace. She didn't deserve that treatment. I didn't even know this lady, but I cried for her. Seems as if no one was on her side but the lawyers. 😪
I have a couple questions for people that think he is innocent....how do you explain him having to work all weekend when his wife thought they were going camping?? How do you explain her not calling that she'd be late for work?? How do you explain the fact he said she had to work that day yet the accident happened after she was already supposed to be there?? How do you explain his story that he was going to pick up a car to replace the windshield when the person said Todd and him didn't make any arrangements for this and also Todd didn't even know where he lived??
@@KenyanBunnie poor beautiful lady was bruised from head to toes , front and back. That mofo beat her horribly. And the first first responder KNEW it !
I do not understand why his lawyers is walking to see the picture displays as he would have been given all of this evidence with all of the discovery before the trial. If I’m not mistaken, everything shown to the jury is also shown on the computer on the defence table. I have watched endless trials and never saw the defence lawyer stand up and walk to and fro during the opening statements. It’s strikingly interruptive to me as it takes some concentration away from the prosecutor’s flow.
Excellent opening by prosecutor. He had a tuff battle bcz most people supported Todd. They needed to see this evidence from day one of trial. The first responder KNEW she had been brutally beaten to death. He alerted law enforcement. Jerry, Larry, Harry , Gary and even Justin NEVER expected todd to pick up their truck that morning , or EVER. So was todd just going to steal a truck and give them a new windshield ? todds supporters never asked todd why all the lies if he was innocent !! poor barb, no one would have believed her IF she had divorced him for dv , bcz he was a "nice guy". no , he was a MONSTER, a LIAR, and an EXTREME control freak with a voice like a keebler elf and lots of sugar in his tank. have you ever seen anyone so happy to go to prison for min of 30 years ?
I am going to be honest I am a crime trial watcher nut. Love watching these trials but I got to admit after hearing some of the people describe how perfect the marriage was and all he did for Barb I wasn't sure we did it. I didn't believe believe the pipe story but figures maybe a tragic accident happened and he tried to cover it cause he was scared he would be blamed but after seeing all the evidence my mind started to change some that he may in fact be guilty but what really made me knew he did it and that he's he's a sneaky snake was at the end of his sentening. If someone was accusing me of a murder and I was sentenced to life and maybe a chance I would get out in 30 years I surely wouldn't be smiling like a won a million dollars! I would be crying and screaming saying No I didn't do this!!!! Please I am telling the truth!!!! Please someone look into this I didn't do it!!!!! I would be pulled out of the court crying not smiling like he did!!! So for anyone who thinks he may be innocent please look at his face at the end of his sentencing trial and you will see he did this!!!! Like I said if I truly didn't do this I wouldn't be happy and smiling because I got a chance to get out after 30 years!!!!
So agree. His demeanor, look on his face at sentencing says it ALL. It's as if he's looking at the judge like, I'm sorry, yes, I did this, but I had to try and come up with a defense, I'm such a "good" guy otherwise, thought maybe I could get a do over, but ya got me, so I guess I have to take the punishment now. Yes, I too would be hysterical if innocent and would not be smiling.
He was nodding his head agreeing with the judge too. Her injuries told the story and shame on her children, brother and mother! Awful way to die..she fought to the end and he must have been praying he finished her off cause had she survived she had a story to tell. His DNA under her dirty nail..poor woman fought and glad her cousin got up and spoke the truth.
I agree with all of you. And a little tidbit you might not know is that when the jury went to deliberate at about 11:30 am, Todd & his gaggle of supporters were in the hallway having themselves a time. Laughing and talking so loudly the bailiff had to ask them multiple times to be respectful and tone it down, there are other offices there trying to conduct daily business. They didn't care and kept up the disrespectful giddiness like they were having a party. But.... As the hours ticked by they got quieter and quieter until they were all downright somber. They assumed they would be out of there in no time with a "not guilty" verdict so they could go out and celebrate. When the guilty verdict was given we hear his son yell out "don't worry dad, we will get you out!" Then the gaggle came out in a cluster screaming obscenities at a young lady who is just a local journalist, blaming the media for the verdict. They called her names and cursed at them and then the daughter pushed the journalist hard into a door. I guess in that family they can all seem to be kind, nice & helpful until you cross them and then they attack. Like father like daughter. I couldn't agree with you more, Frank. I went into this with an open mind but the proof is so overwhelming it's impossible to not believe he is guilty. But to me, all the people saying they had a "perfect" relationship and when Todd said he has never even raised his voice are major red flags. Because no relationship of 25 years is perfect and if that is what everyone thought, someone (Barb) is keeping a lot to herself. And my husband & I are close, together almost all the time and get along great but we have raised our voices to each other. Probably after just a few months... Healthy relationships have disagreements so to claim and convince everyone it's perfect, something is way off. Just my 2 cents
He’s a COWARD!! So mad because she was going to split and he wasn’t going to have that. I can’t believe the families is so closed minded that they can’t tell he murder his wife
the luminol pics prove barb was slumped over the console , not seated normally in pass seat. i think he beat her unconscious at neighbors garage property . todd had plenty of time to bleach +power wash the neighbors garage before dets got google info from phones
It was a bad move for Todd to take the witness stand since he is clearly on the spectrum. There was no possible way for Todd to outsmart the rapid fire questionning of the prosecutor.
If you’re going to stage a fatal accident, don’t use a story that involves physics (movement speed, impact force, and trajectory.) Also don’t have multiple injuries present on your victim that weren’t part of the “accident.” Edit: unless you’re archimedes, Galileo, or Isaac newton, don’t use physics in your fake story.
I love watching his cross. Iv watched it 3 times and each time it’s clear he killed her. So deceitful to his children. If they come to terms with the truth it will be so painful for them. He’s manipulated the whole family
Todd's defence blamed his lies and memory loss on stress and medication but Todd had no trouble recalling or remembering what he didn't do! Jerry Buting's evidence shows that the pipe could bounce! In Todd's first police interview he said the pipe never hit the ground? Or do we also have to put that down to the very convenient one-way stress and medication?
That explains Todds confidence in any search warrant for his home. I think he killed her when they checked on the neighbors property. Its the one main detail that bothered me that the state had little evidence and probably a big reason why Todd thought he could get away with this despite his absolutely ridiculous version of events. He had 2 big problems for a typical prosecution, a motive, and a non existant story of what really happened. They had little evidence really of the actual killing other than Todd and the deceased. Leaves the question, did they ever get a search warrant for that property? Maybe it was a legal issue seeing as its someones private residence and they had little to offer a judge to show cause that the homicide occured there. I cannot help but think they had to really want ANY evidence of an altercation outside the accident as that would really seal their case. After all, the burden is on them and they do not have a motive which typically is a huge component in a homicide trial.
The prosecution absolutely does NOT have to prove motive, nor do they even need to speculate as to motive, in order to prove guilt. I believe the State had enough to prove the defendant guilty of murder, but was so glad that he was stupid enough to take the stand in his own defense, bc the jury clearly saw that he didn’t _have_ a defense! And, btw, the search warrant for the house had to be completed so the State could rule it out as the murder scene. The jury found the State had proved their case bc the defendant didn’t ever say where they were going that morning, nor why he didn’t take his wife to work, and the lies he told about all of that. He couldn’t explain how the rod could hit her on the back of the head 3 times in order to fracture her skull in 3 different places; nor could he account for all of the significant injuries on her face if she was hit on the back of the head; and he could not convince the jury over the number of different stories he told. The expert witnesses for the defense were completely ineffectual, in sharp contrast to the State’s expert testimony. I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that the defendant had no defense,
What year did the final destination movie where the pipe comes off the truck and kills the girl come out in relation to this case? I tend to believe prosecution more than I’d like in these murder cases even though I’m pretty much an ancap. I’m not buying todds story in this one.
This isn't an opening statement, it's the presentation of all the evidence before it is even accepted as evidence. Very poorly done. Prosecutor makes himself out to be a rookie. Thirty nine minutes wrapped up in 10 seconds: "The defendant is guilty and we will prove to you why".
@@annielane1843 I think opening statements are a waste of time. As a juror, you already know the prosecutor will be presenting evidence to prove guilt and the defense will be trying to show otherwise. Tell the jury what he's charged with and a short summary of the case then get on to the witnesses. That's my opinion anyway.
I thought he did great. Straight forward, no theatrics. To me very likeable & believable. Most TV shows or movies portray a dramatic opening but real life it's a lot of times more chill like this one.
