i always thought that of the three Zach was the most dangerous. I think a large part of what drove Powell cuckoo (other than the fact that he was already a little cracked) was that he had genuine remorse for what he did and never got help to deal w/his guilt and his issues. Todd was also shown to be remorseful, he got counseling, he tried to work through his library worth of issues but Zach NEVER showed one ounce of regret or guilt and he was so hateful and angry and to me he was truly scary.
Great points. Also the motivation although no way ever an excuse was sorta there for the gang rape for Todd & powell. U know how they say " all it takes is one bad day ?" Todd flunked the calculus test & bc of his frustration by being shot down like 10 times by marty he thought she fed him bogus calculus formulas. Then the day of the gang rape todd thought his life was over. He got kicked off the football team ( the only identity he had & what gave him the only positive attention from Peter & built his esteem after peters verbal & physical abuse ) his day got worse bc he was put on academic probation by the dean as well. Then his dad called & gave it to him & demanded he fly home immediately. I remember kevin got the jist of how Peter spike to him by over hearing the convo & he even felt bad for Todd. He was terrified to go home to Peter as college was finally his escape from that house of hell. Plus football was the only thing that made Peter be nice to him as Peter got the glory from co workers other parents etc. & todd said to marty that bc of his football an alumnae was hooking him up with a great job. So all of that enraged & made him lash out at Marty. He tried to humiliate her with the blow up doll & it backfired bc Marty was quick in her response & told todd in front of everyone during one of their many heated exchanges that he was stupid & bad in bed. Def one of the worst things u can say to a young man is he sucks in bed. They all got drunker & drunker & I think todd just got angrier & angrier & when he heard she kissed powell he lost it bc he had been trying to get her to date him for weeks. Ok so todd was about rage humiliation & destroying marty. Powell was a weak messed up guy who raped a girl bc he of peer pressure which is insane & why I'm not surprised the guy lost it & raped again. Any man that would gang rape a girl to please another guy is disturbed. I wish we got into what was the root of it bc all we got was " it's all today fault " he did not put a gun to his head. Now zack is scary bc he was just along for the ride. He had no beef with Marty pretty much him saying " what the hell?" All excited about it. Zack really did not show much feelings at all. Remember after the mistrial todd told zack he was weird & " it's like u dont even Care"
The guy playing Ray in this part was really a good actor. They should have kept him on in the show as a friend to Todd and it would have been a great storyline. Ray had a great story, He was a rapist himself and was redeemed and living a whole new life so he was a great example for Todd. Also easy on the eyes. Not sure why they didn't keep him on the show because that would have been a great move
@devane85 Thank you very much there is a huge double standard, everyone acts a through Powell was less in the wrong than Todd and zach, they never really say if zach got cousaling and help but Todd did... it helped him understand a bit of who he is and why.
I agree and here's another point to consider. Todd genuinely was abused and tortured as a child throughout his whole childhood. It's a little bit more understandable that he would commit a crime like this. Powell and Zack had no such treatment as children. They both had loving parents. Agree that Zack really never showed much remorse at all.
Powell has zero room to talk he never even really paid for his part in the rape of Marty, he was out quickest and in very little time. His remose was make faker than Todd's because Todd had a harder time letting that guilt shine through, not to mention the cousaling and the help Todd got but fought himself getting Powell did do any of that much less serve any real time.
I think Todd's right. It is all being done for publicity, but what's wrong with taking advantage of that? They would be using him and he would be using them. It ends up being pretty fair if you think about it, and that's something the government rarely is.
