In fall 2016, the Notre Dame Department of Film, Television, and Theatre and the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center were honored to host rock legend Todd Rundgren as artist-in-residence for ten days. At the end of his residency, he performed a concert with student musicians to a sold out Leighton Concert Hall on Oct. 1, 2016.
“Can We Still Be Friends” featuring Notre Dame Jazz Band One, with alumnus Bill Hurd on saxophone, & a cappella group Halftime.

Todd believes in cultivating the musical talents of future musicians, and he will share his assets, incl. this masterpiece written by Todd, and performed by younger talent in various schools, and even shared it with Darrell Hall, in a session at "Darrell's House" where they sang it together 🎉

I'd love to poll the kids to see how many actually knew who Todd was when it was announced he was coming! I may be cynical, but if a small handful did anything but say, "Who?", I'd be shocked. This….is a fully formed musician and composer….sharing….he is a wonderful human being…I started playing at 12…. at 64 I still keep getting better everyday as a musician and composer….Fripp…Jeff Beck….Todd…..what I know could fit in a thimble…what I have yet to learn….could empty a ocean….these men and their dedication to their passion….led me down this path.

"We awoke from our dreams..." Reminds me of Madrigals in high school. A cappella is incredible and innocent. Love seeing the young ones show some connection to the song. Amazing. They don't even know its full significance yet. It's not just "another song." It grows on you over time. Thank you for sharing. Iconic.

I was about 8 or 9 when Hello It's Me was on the airwaves. I liked the song then and have rediscovered the magic of Todd Rundgren. I came across a RU-vid video of Pia Salvia performing Can We Still Be Friends. That was the 1st time I had ever heard that song....It TOUCHED my Soul. Todd you have a new Devotee.....Bless you!

Love the collegiate vibe at the beginning of the song. It's like stepping on the campus for the first time. What details? You either get this song and its sentiment or you don't. Period. And it's amazing if you get it.

I thought (Hello It's Me) as little child the radio sang the song... My Mom said, come watch TV Todd Rundgren sings Hello It's Me... I said,, No the radio did.. Please, make the radio play it again.. Watch TV you'll see Todd sing. Always Liked Todd's 🎶 & I still do.
