Highlight montage of the 21 song set from Phoenix’s Celebrity Theater Sept 2021. This rotating in the round stage is one of the most unique places to play in the USA.
Speechless...the way you move around the kit is amazing, the majesty you hit the drums with, and the feel, creativity and personality you put in every beat. Surely one of the best drummers to watch and listen to.
He's fantastic! and love his tone on his set...meaty and moving! Back in the Denver band seen use to love watching kick ass drmmers...he's definitely kick ass!!!😉
This shows how good John was..very Progressive percussionist..I remember in Jr.high in the 70s my music teacher was very impressed with John's technique and style extremely underrated drummer
Wow, I was exhausted just watching the first three songs. So impressive how you can perform like that for 90 plus minutes during each concert. I love these focused videos because they truly show off your talent and musical capabilities. You get lost behind your kit but your contributions to Styx are priceless.
I’ve always believed that Neil Peart was the master of all things drums, but I have to say Todd is amazing and may be the best drummer I’ve ever heard. Try going 2 hours in concert at this pace and intensity would put most people in cardiac arrest!
Man, Sound The Alarm has so much emotional power. It does feel like some kind of spiritual successor to Crystal Ball, which is a song I only just discovered and love.
Styx came out when I was in highschool; Dude, you bring back all those same feelings. Watching you makes me reimagine the albums all over again; THX!! GREAT chops!
Todd Sucherman never fails to leave me in awe of the many techniques he possesses. Just the changing from matching to traditional grip while in the middle of fills is difficult at best and of course he executes it flawlessly. He also has a great talent as an instructor in his clinics. Try to attend one if he's near your location, you won't be disappointed.
Performing my daily work on my computer to provide for my family, I clicked on Todd for my second screen stopped dead in my tracks and asked myself, im bitching about my job today when todd performs surgically every difficult Styx lick like a musical robot programmed by every great drummer that has ever lived ,without shedding a single bead of sweat like his is driving his car to work !! Todd Sucherman is absolutely amazing, I believe I have seen more music than most in my 58 years. Peace from Detroit MI. I pray Todd, Gavin, Virgil and Simon live forever!
Freaking awesome after all these years! Seen them 24 times now and JP would love it! Keep Rockin Todd !! You’re one of the best! Glad you’re on team STYX !
Priceless! I'm a drummer in my 50's and grew up with Styx and found myself air drumming through this entire set with you while my desk and monitor where shaking all over the place. Thanks for sharing! I'd be interested in seeing full set videos also of just you on drums. Awesome, just awesome.
hai mr.Todd... I am your fan of me being 25 yrs old, and I am currently 42 yrs old. I am very happy to see that Mr. Tod is still healthy and enthusiastic in beating drums.cool and healthy always for you and thank you for the extraordinary works of Mr. Tod, greetings, I know dr holan Indonesia, precisely I am in Batam City, Riau Islands Indonesia
I watched this video with the sound off and discovered an entire new level of your skill and finesse. I didn't realize, the crash sounds were distracting me from the skill in which you play them. Thank you yet again for sharing your gifts with us.
Todd - looks/ sounds/feels like you were sitting quite comfortably in that *flow* state of mind during this show, where everything is effortless and crystal-clear, as if you were simply the vehicle for the creative expression to reveal itself, performing and executing on a higher plane than previous videos you’ve shared. Either that or it’s just my new headphones.
I’m amazed but so not surprised by how good your performance is. Your choices always make sense and support the song. Keep it up - you’ll be pretty good at this sort of thing some day!
I really enjoy Todd's playing, his demeanor and his love of teaching others. I'd love to see a clinic either in person or online or whatever with Todd and Bernard Purdie where they can school us in tips(fills, groove, feel) for 5 minute songs, longer songs, odd times and such would be a hoot. Yes, there are other technique freak drummers in Prog and Jazz but to me Bernard, Todd, Gordon, Porcaro, Bonham, Gadd and Seraphine are the leaders in groove, soul and feel for many of us for decades now.
I don’t know if the other comments are from drummer or not...but I’m a drummer and I have to say that this man has something different. The technique is incredible, as many other musicians. But the musicality and the attention that he puts in every single note is out of this world. I hope that he’s teaching to someone these incredible skills, this way to play must continue in the future!!!!
Claudio, I am a drummer and a subscriber to Drumeo Edge. I can tell you that Todd freely and proactively shares his knowledge with many drummers of all skill levels. He comes across as a great drummer, a thoughtful instructor, and just a quality person.
Retired professional drummer here, ya, he is amazing, father was a drummer,,(and a doctor) he had two older brothers in which he played drums with, went to Berkely, an amazing story. Also, what helps is playing the same approx. 20 songs for 25+ years, you get them down really well....
He's fill's with double bass drum additions are mental. Ability to control rhythm is insane. Not just ramdom prr prr prr that most drummers does tend to do.
Ah…. This is what is called next level. Even for Todd. He is just killing it! Props to the tech and sound man. Kit sounds great and the toms are money.
Hey Todd! I just saw you guys at Thunder Valley in Lincoln CA. Fantastic! Great drum and bass mix. Wall of rhythm! I looked up the name of the upside-down cymbal above your floor toms (China Cymbal). I was on the upper balcony and could hear that cymbal all that way up there. Thnks for a night of great music.
I love the orchestration of his playing. Seems to me that because his beats, chops, fills are so interesting and artful and clean it makes for great music. You take away these elements and it would sound like he is over playing (imo) Truly plays the kit as an instrument. He plays with such fluidity and is so vibrant and busy and ibecause he is a master at his craft it works beautifully. I love it!
Yesterday I was watching and episode from two and a half men, and someone Said "if one tape have to be stuck on your tape it might be from Stixx, I agree man! They are still delivering such a good songs!!
I'm here after hearing your quote about RiNGO ... re Underrated drummers ... "If someone comes up to me and disrespects RiNGO ... instead of punching him in the throat, which is really what I want to do ... I'll say ... Well ... Tell you what ... Why don't you come up with perfect absolutely perfect drum parts to three hundred songs in a seven years period ... and then come talk to me." ~~ Todd Sucherman I was born on RiNGO Starr's 21st Birthday (and have been a fan of his since I was like 3 or so) ~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~ Anyway ... just wanted to say ... Really great compilation of your drumming here ... I enjoyed it ...
Todd - just curious if you have a favorite song you like to play from the setlist? Or is it like our children….we love them all equally? Thanks for continuing to post these amazing videos!
Todd is, IMO, the perfect rock drummer. Obviously impeccable technique and skill, but he just owns the the tunes compositionally. My current fav for sure… Bravo!
