Hello my friend, I bought 5 compression clamps. I found you when I researched ideas for using these on the workbench. Most opinions and videos about it are on your channel. I followed other toggle clamp ideas as well. Thank you for sharing these beautiful ideas. I will try what suits me. I'll be on your channel now. Because we do similar jobs. I also do woodwork as a hobby. Thank you for sharing. See you all the time. Big greetings. Stay healthy and happy.

I eventually will make one of these tables once I get my garage all sorted out. I think the inexpensive toggle clamps is an ingenious idea. Once you have the aluminum tubing, pieces of wood, some screws and the clamps, you can probably make any number of these at about a tenth of the more expensive clamps made by some of the well known companies. Thank you so much!

Just made a couple of the T bar clamps. A suggestion- if you have (or buy) a 6 mm die, you can use 6 mm rod (instead of threaded rod) and thread the top 50 mm. This is not only stronger, it means the smooth surface will not mar the table. I added a sleeve of heatshrink, for an even smoother/softer surface. I made the bars and handles (with a 6mm insert) out of thick ply. Many thanks for the idea!

If you build that wood base 96mm long and place dog at one end and toggle at other you can then set your work piece at Any distance from holes which allows for cutting any size

One more thing to modify the Ttrack clamps would be to elongate the hole in to a slot. I think this will make them more useable. Regards Geoff Maddison

Agreed. I just added some slots around my work top and did not need holes. Just make sure the individual slots are not too long to weaken the work top.

Hi Thomas really enjoyed the video and very well delivered. Could you tell me the thickest timber you can clamp using the toggle clamp.
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY Год назад
Difficult to give a definite answer. It depends which toggle clamp you will get (what size) Then you can upgrade the rod with a foot that will have an impact plus as in my case I have added a piece of plywood as a base and again depending on how thick that is you will be able to clamp different sized material. Have you got any particular size in mind?

Hello Thomas. I have made dogs w 7/8” dowel and a base to hold a toggle clamp (similar to yours I think). The hole and dowel are both 7/8” but the dogs slip up a bit and cause loose clamping. Any easy solutions to keep the dogs snug so clamping is tight?

Hi Geeeeezer, Did you use a tap to drill the rod?

I initially drilled it with a bit that supposed to make thread inside of the rod but that didn't work so after that I just used a normal drill bit for metal👍

Hi, why use so much aluminium rod for the toggle dogs? Surely only the thickness of the mft top is in contact with it.
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 3 года назад
That's true, I have overdone it a bit. But for security I would go bit more that just the tabletop thickness.

Hi Tomasz, how are you finding having dog holes all over your bench? I'm toying with different patterns to save drilling them all out - two runs at the top, two at the bottom, a few perpendicular, etc. Would you drill all out if you did it again? Cheers!
@CasualDIY
@CasualDIY 4 года назад
Hi, that was my initial thought to have them in certain places but I just went with the whole bench. Now I think it was a good idea I tend to use the whole bench and it's so easy to clamp everything. One downside is that if you are working with small things like screws, bolts or something that can tell through the holes then it becomes annoying. Fortunately I got two carts on both sides and now I put/work with those small things on them 👍 hope this helps😁
@richardclarke9966
@richardclarke9966 4 года назад
@@CasualDIY Yeah, that was my thinking. I might go with a tray 10cm underneath to catch small items and store the dogs, etc. Cheers

Casual DIY thanks for the quick reply, I will have a look as your solution maybe exactly what I need, I use mainly hand tools, but use a mitre saw, track saw and a planer thicknesser and my table saw will be going as I hardly use it as I can rip cut quicker than setting up my cheap Lidl table saw to get each cut parallel to the fence.
