In today's video we turn toilet paper into composite material with 100 ton hydraulic press that has heated table / press tools. We also use some help of epoxy to create carbon fiber type of material out of toilet paper

We took this week bit easier to get enough energy to pull of the last parts of the bunker in this month, so bit shorter video this time :D All the steel parts, windows, and much more stuff is arriving next week so soon we are able to unleash the 300 tonner against ball bearings and other good stuff :D

Jake over at Everything Blackpowder has tried just about every carbon source to make charcoal and then black powder for his rifles. His best one yet? Cottonelle 2 ply toilet paper. It makes powder that burns fast & clean.

Y'all should try crushing different qualities of toilet paper. Like cheap 1-ply versus fancy 4-ply extra thick stuff. I wonder how the attachment between layers would change the paper hardening/bonding under pressure.

Love this channel! I work as a construction blast hole driller and I wish I could send you some of the extremely fine rock dust my machine collects in its filters. It's about the same consistency as common flour and the particular rock I'm drilling in central Virginia has a really beautiful green/gray color. I just think it would be really interesting and awesome to see it crushed back into a rock

You should seriously look into densified wood. Its very interesting. A bit sciency, but if you can set your press to hold at a constant pressure for some time (allowing it to move as the material compresses) you have amazing tools.

Great upload THX! What if you added steel thread? Sometimes I do that when I laminate plywood for skateboards. The idea is to get the thread to hold on throughout the board, creating a pull through the entire board if it bends in just one area. So you make three toilet paper "cards". Later you laminate the three together, with steel thread in between the layers. Fun fact: Tony Hawk created a skateboard like this. But he realized he needed one layer of wood. Phenolic resin composites were very common in the form of printer circuit boards and Formica bench tops The fibre matrix is nearly always some form of paper. Phenolic resin is preferable because it is a one part thermosetting resin.

200°C curing temperature for epoxy is pretty high unless it is special high tech epoxy.

Consider a (stacked) bat of tangled pink fiberglass insulation epoxy-wet then heat-pressed. Will it stop bullets? Homemade body armor from multiple fiberglass cloth and epoxy layers is all over youtube, but it is bulky for not being well consolidated. It also delaminates when struck. Pre 3-D tangled and crosslinked should not delaminate - no lamella. Alternative to epoxy is polyester resin with its faster heat-activated cure. More expensive.

I think you should add some good quality PVA glue soaked into the toilet roll, then press it, wait for it to dry then test it. This would be similar then to chipboard or laminex/melomine board.

@johnladuke6475 200°C is more than double what you need to cook anything fully. The same temperatures are needed for jerky to be safe, as are needed for other meat. So the type of meat makes no difference.

Silly me. Cooking is one place I still think in degrees F, and surely this is non-stupid degrees C. You could still cook a roast at 200 F even unsquashed, but I'd rather have it a little hotter. I'll revise the idea; turn that temp we see in the video _down_ and give it a good crush and I'll bet we still get some fine jerky. Even if we start with a roast.

You have to press it laying on its side rather than standing upright. The fibers will be much stronger.

The fibres in toilet paper are too small to make a difference. It's not like flipping it is going to make a difference. This is basically like using sawdust or wood chips to form a piece of lumber. It doesn't matter what orientation the fibres go in. They are so small that the press will determine the outcome. Oh, a better example it is like taking a wooven sweater and putting it in a vice. It wouldn't matter if you folded it, or if you frivolously tried standing it up, it will crush it flat either way. A sweater has longer weaving than toilet paper.

OK... so now we know how ERTR (Epoxy Reinforced Toiled Roll) acts, how about you maxk a Bullet Proof Vest out of overlapping ERTR rounds? (You could use a Hi Viz vest as the base laye and hang them with self locking plkasrtic cable ties?) bullet proof west works because they are flexible, this would be same as armored plates... Kevlar, and similar perform not good as bullet proofing when you make hard plates. paper I do not know...

epoxy was overheated and because of that it degrade and become super brittle if it wasnt heated so much it should be stronger (and with less pressure on it so it wont squeeze all out )

Lets "one up" your idea; Kevlar between 2 epoxy TP rolls. Honestly, it would probably make for some decent body-armor. Could probably take low-caliber shots.
